BAR: After Hours, a guest review :)

I am so excited to be…er, what is that smell? (looks at bottoms of both shoes) Nope. (smells pits) Nope. Aw, come on guys…I thought it was just the name of your blog! You should warn a guest…Okay, that joke was much funnier in my head.

Well, I am still excited to be here. I wanted to tell everyone about an awesome fantasy anthology. Why do I think you would like it? I don’t read Fantasy (except Urban Fantasy, and let’s not even get me started on those, cause I will have to tell you about my alpha-male addiction, and this ain’t that kind of blog, if you know what I mean ;) but I loved this book so….

Pull up a stool, grab your favorite poison and listen...

Blurb: Science fiction and fantasy readers have long shown an affinity for a good "bar story". Now some of today's most inventive scriveners have decided to tell their own tall tales-from an alewife's attempt to transfer the gods' curse to Gilgamesh, to Odin's decision to introduce Vikings to the Ur-Bar, from the Holy Roman Emperor's barroom bargain, to a demon hunter who may just have met his match in the ultimate magic bar, to a bouncer who discovers you should never let anyone in after hours in a world terrorized by zombies.

This was an "out of the box" read for me (I won it from Avery Shade). I was attracted by the premise of the anthology. A bar run by Gilgamesh that continues to exist through out time (awesome, right?). Each author starts with this and writes a tale in their own reality and time.

I loved every single one of these stories (there are 15)! All the authors were unknown to me before this book. Each one thrilled me with tales of adventure, sacrifice and humor. Each author was able to let me slip seamlessly into their reality. I felt as if I was in "that" bar listening to stories being told the way they are suppose to, under dim lighting with a drink in my hand and huddled in a corner. No matter what genre you enjoy, this anthology will keep you entertained!

Just be careful if Gil offers you his special brew, and be careful what you wish for ;)

I would offer up my copy, but Avery Shade got 5 of the authors to sign it for me, and I don’t share well with others (so I am told). So I am just going to ask a question. Do you have a “bar” story?

I do. I actually met my husband in a bar while playing foosball. I saw him standing there waiting his turn and I thought “hey, I want him to be the father of my children!” Odd thing for a single 24 year old woman to think, but there it is. 10 months later we were married. That was 19 years ago (don’t you dare do the math to figure out my age, that wouldn’t be polite) If you don’t have a bar story, you can tell us your favorite beverage.

4 sheep!

Thanks for inviting me and should I be concerned about the woodchucks?
