Comic Book Review: True Blood: Tainted Blood Issue #1

Our friends in Bon Temps just can’t seem to catch a break these days. Sookie Stackhouse's world is turned upside down when contaminated bottles of Tru Blood cause the Southern population to go berserk! Looks like those growing human/vampire tensions aren’t going to simmer down anytime soon! But who (or what) is behind the bad "Blood"? And Hoyt plans to do what for Jessica?! The latest "head-turning" story arc of the True Blood comic series starts here!

HBO® and IDW Publishing Announce Partnership To Create First-Ever True Blood® Comic Book Series

Writers: Marc Andreyko, Michael McMillian
Artist: Joe Corroney
Cover Artists: Joe Corroney, J Scott Campbell

I wasn’t sure what I expected from this comic. I’ve read all the books and watched one season of the TV show, but I didn’t stick to it because it messed with my beloved characters too much (yes, that makes me a book snob <G>). The comic is based on the TV show, so all our favorite characters are there, but the comic has its own original storyline. Once again messing with what ain’t broken in my opinion ;)

The art work is colorful and expressive, but the characters are kind of…ugly <G>. I don’t know why the artist didn’t just make the characters look like the TV actors, since it is based on them. They are kind of a modified version for some reason. The story was okay, but I don’t think this will make my list of must-reads.

  1. Yeah, I just can't see how this would work for Sookie, et al. The cover looks bad because Bill just looks plain fugly. They are trying to hard to make more money, IMHO.

  2. That has been my problem with graphic novels on my favorite reads. I have not found one where the characters look anywhere near my imagination of them :) and that gets in my way of enjoying the story. Shallow I know LOL but when I become involved with a character I have a picture in my mind and interrupting that makes me a little testy:) By this I do not mean the artists are not talented by any means, as they are, we just have different opinions on how a character is perceived.
