Manga Review of Gate7 by CLAMP

Second Year High school student Chikahito Takamoto is visiting the legendary shrine Kitano Tenmangu in Kyoto Japan. After paying his respect to the God of Studies he decides to stop by the gift shop to purchase a charm, instead he steps into a mystical world where he meets Hana and her companions.

Turns out that Hana and her companions Sakura and Tachibana are hunting Oni for their boss. Chikahito passes through their barrier while Hana is in a middle of a fight, Chikahito passes out and awakes later on. Upon waking up Sakura tries to erase the memory of them ever meeting, sadly the attempt fails and it turns out that Chikahito is immune to their powers.

During the story Chikahito is introduced to a mysterious man who is rumored to be the living reincarnation of an ancient general, he explains that there is a war of sorts going on in Kyoto, and that the prize is to gain control of the most powerful Oni in all of Japan. CLAMP is a 4 woman team of manga artists that have worked on a number of mangas and animes, they have been working together since the mid 1980's.

If you have never picked up a manga from them I'd suggest checking this one out as a start, you don't need to know anything of their past books to follow this one. If you have had a chance to read any of the past CLAMP stories I suggest adding this one to your collection.

I am giving this manga a 4.5 sheep just so I don't show any type of favoritism.
