Image Expo coverage & giveaway

Image Expo 2012 in Oakland CA was a fun filled comic weekend offering a variety of booths for just about any reading or artistic taste palette. I was lucky enough to chat with many of the authors, artists and actors which I'll be showcasing below.

The Walking Dead was out in full force and rightly so with its hit AMC television show and amazing toy line done by none other then McFarlane Toys. Talk about a booth that had it all! Good thing I brought the vials of vampire blood...that baby looked hungry.

J.D. Goff showcases two series in his line, the first: Jack Rabbit his comic about an ex-boxer turned private investigator, as he navigates the seedy, supernatural underworld of 1930's Los Angeles... and beyond. Fall 2011, the worlds of noir and horror collide like never before.

His second piece of work is: BIG HITTERS an action/adventure comic book series created by Jonathan Goff (writer) and Travis Sengaus (artist). In a futuristic society, a government teetering on collapse has sanctioned the use of "Hitters" (or hitmen) to help clean up the galaxy following a particularly brutal and far-reaching interstellar war.

Our tale centers on a pair of Hitters (Fresh and Mack) and their day-to-day misadventures through the seediest of underworlds and darkest of back alleys as they search for the next big hit and the true meaning of vengeance.

The creators of Utopiates Josh Finney and Kat Rocha share someone information on the world they've created.
'Tale of...the near future…science is able to distill human personalities into a drug-form. Called utopiates –a merging of the words utopia and opiate– these drugs allow users to swap personalities with the “mental imprints” of other people. Every user has their own reasons for seeking chemical escape, but all soon learn the cost of soul swapping is extremely high.'

Josh Barone brings two of his latest works. Dirt Bike Ninjas and Chicken Soup for the Rubber Soul. Make sure to check this fun and quorky guy out, he's really fantastic and very unique.

I hope everyone who reads this will check all these folks out, a fun and unique set of authors and writers. Hats off to doing what you love and trying to make a living in the process. Our support, in any form, is what gets these guys and gals by. Much Sheep love!

  1. i'm more interested in the works than the artist :p jack rabbit seems like a great comic don't you think?

by the way, have you ever read xxxHoLic? if you haven't read it, why don't you try this one. it's a japanese manga. this one is my latest favourite in the prn genre manga. the story evolves around the main character, watanuki kimihiro, who one day stumbles into a wish granting shop owned by yuuko.

    3. yes it is, now that you mention it. i forgotten that his birthday is april 1st.

i have another japanese manga recomemndation. prince of tea or koucha ouji. it's also PNR, but light and sweet (at least not as dark as xxxHoLic). this one talks about a legend, if you drink a cup of tea with a white china cup and a silver spoon under the full moon, you'll find a fairy (tea fairy) who'll grant your wishes. sounds simple right, not. it turns out that the wishes has fine prints under it. this one has funny moments, touching moments and tear-up moments.

  7. My dear you hit gold with the fun times at the Image Expo. I have to admit that my eye was immediately drawn to Josh Barone, after all who would not want to know more about Dirt Bike Ninjas and Chicken Soup for the Rubber Soul, all we need is a little Kool-Aid and a moon-pie and we can call it good. I do have to admit that the others also have me intrigued as well and I am so appreciative of your sharing a taste of the experience with us.

  9. Jack Rabbit sounds interesting. I recently discovered the Toby Peters series which is also about a detective in 1920/1930's Hollywood era so it would be cool to read this. Thanks for the giveaway.
