Sheep Movie Review: The Raid-Redemption

The Raid: Redemption, written and directed by Gareth Evans, and staring a bunch of unknown actors the likes of which America has yet to see but should get used to watching in upcoming action flicks. This film is a high octane neck-stab that will leave you thankful for your ordinary day job!

Plot:
As a rookie member of an elite special-forces team, Rama (Iko Uwais) is instructed to hang back during a covert mission involving the extraction of a brutal crime lord from a rundown fifteen-story apartment block. But when a spotter blows their cover, boss Tama (Ray Sahetaphy) offers lifelong sanctuary to every every killer, gangster, and thief in the building in exchange fortheir heads. Now Rama must stand in for the team's fallen leader (Joe Taslim) and use every iota of his fighting strength - winding through every floor and every room to complete the mission and escape with his life.

If you love a good kickass martial arts film that's nonstop excitement and a story to go along with it then you'll want to give this one a shot. Make sure to get yourself acquainted with the Indonesian martial arts form known as Pencak Silat, which happened to look pretty similar to Mui Tai, but I'm no expert in the ways of killing. The Raid makes no apologies about getting in your face with the killings, once that gets started its all up hill from there. Who knew you needed to bash a head in 10 different ways just to make sure the guys really dead? I sure didn't but I loved watching it!

It's a hack-down, slash-up with long-looking, rusty machetes but under all the tricks is a meaningful story of family and just how far you'd be willing to go to save a loved one. A bit predictable yes, but I didn't go to this film for something dramatic and award-winning. I went for the action and got all I could have hoped for and some extra body slams to take for the road. A bit too much shaky camera syndrome in parts but that being said I was wowed with new angles and the overall sense that this director knew just how to shoot a film of this nature. New moves I had yet to see and some old classics that just never get old.

Parts of this film's script-writing actually left me laughing out loud, a lot of comedic value can be taken from this film which only adds to the overall entertainment. One of the BEST bad guys I've seen in a while, if it takes two dudes to work viciously at trying to bring you down you get stabbed in the neck with a tube and are gushing blood yet still will not go down? Then sir you've found yourself a friend!

If you're an action junkie and don't mind a subtitled flick then I'm going to suggest you check out all this movie has up its sleeve...and under the table...or behind it...or smashes with it. You get the idea!

Getting 3 and 1/2 Waaaaa! Sheep
