Book Review: Rock Hard (Rock Kiss book 2) by Nalini Singh

Rock Hard
Rock Kiss - book 2
By: Nalini Singh
Pages: 351

Plot:
Wealthy businessman Gabriel Bishop rules the boardroom with the same determination and ruthlessness that made him a rock star on the rugby field. He knows what he wants, and he’ll go after it no-holds-barred.

And what he wants is Charlotte Baird.

Charlotte knows she’s a mouse. Emotionally scarred and painfully shy, she just wants to do her job and remain as invisible as possible. But the new CEO—a brilliant, broad-shouldered T-Rex of a man who growls and storms through the office, leaving carnage in his wake—clearly has other plans. Plans that may be equal parts business and bedroom.

If Charlotte intends to survive this battle of wits and hearts, the mouse will have to learn to wrangle the T-Rex. Game on.

Maybe T-Rex was a bad example for the main man candy to be called. All I could think of was those short stubby hands? Ever see the picture of T-Rex trying to give a hug?

Well, you have now!

That's the picture that stayed flash fried in my brain. I can't help it! In my mind, he's got short stub arms. Stubs aside, this was another sexy installment from the mastermind writer that is Mrs. Singh. She knows how to cook up some heat, and has the unique ability to bring all that boiling drama to a climactic crescendo.

Sadly, the meek mouse-like gal Charlotte really bothered me. She's been through some tragic emotional and physical abuse, stalked and hunted down. Humiliated time and again, by someone she trusted. I get it, she's all kinds of messed up. But she keeps playing the victim role a tad too much for my tastes. That sounds mean when I type it, and I get that. Perhaps I'm a little cold hatred, being undead can do that. However, I wanted less crying and more excitement between our couple.

This dude's a hunk, an ex athlete, a smart and ruthless business man, he's the whole package and he needs a woman that can handle all that. Charlotte didn't sell it for me. She was too bland for my bold tastes, I mean don't get me wrong....I like some vanilla now and then but her character just didn't get me going.

This is all small potatoes. No matter my meaningless complaints and griping of woes, this author and all she touches is far and wide above most romance writers. That's statement of fact. So I'll read her less them amazing works over just about any other series on the shelf now.

***Please note, there are sadly no vampires or paranormal creatures of any kind in this story.

  1. Seems strange that a t-rex would even be interested in a mouse, much less a bland, boring mouse. I think that would bother me as I was reading, as alpha males seem to go for more outgoing mates, not little mice. And I love the picture of the two t-rexes trying to hug!

  2. I'm a big fan of the strong, witty, kick ass female character. Sometimes it works though. I want to get on this series. It sounds so good!
