Rhage and Mary return in a new novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood

Nothing is as it used to be for the Black Dagger Brotherhood. After avoiding war with the Shadows, alliances have shifted and lines have been drawn. The slayers of the Lessening Society are stronger than ever, preying on human weakness to acquire more money, more weapons, more power. But as the Brotherhood readies for an all-out attack on them, one of their own fights a battle within himself…

For Rhage, the Brother with the biggest appetites, but also the biggest heart, life was supposed to be perfect—or at the very least, perfectly enjoyable. Mary, his beloved shellan, is by his side and his King and his brothers are thriving. But Rhage can’t understand—or control—the panic and insecurity that plague him…

And that terrifies him—as well as distances him from his mate. After suffering mortal injury in battle, Rhage must reassess his priorities—and the answer, when it comes to him, rocks his world...and Mary’s. But Mary is on a journey of her own, one that will either bring them closer together or cause a split that neither will recover from.

As I love to say with one of my favorite authors, 528 pages just wasn’t long enough. Once again Ward brought a fantastic story with Book 14 in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

Rhage and Mary will be together forever, even in the Fade but Rhage realizes that even though Mary cannot have children he really wants one. Mary thought she would always be content with no children but what if she could have a child, would that change her life? Bitty has had a tough life and has never had anyone she could rely on.

Layla is trying desperately to keep the twins within her womb for as long as possible to give them the best chance of survival. All the bed rest is killing her especially since she can’t stop thinking about Xcor even though she knows it is wrong.

One of the things I enjoy most about these books is that there are multiple stories going on at the same time. It’s not all focuses on one couple or story line. It also gives a peek into what books might be coming in the future. My guesses from this story is we might be seeing a book about Manny in the near future as well as more on Vishous and Assail. Though I did read on JR Ward’s facebook page that the next book will be about Layla and Xcor and I can’t wait.

J.R. Ward is the number one New York Times bestselling author of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series of vampire books. She is a winner of the prestigious Romance Writers of America RITA award for Best Paranormal Romance and is a multiple RITA nominee. A graduate of Smith College, she was a double major in History and Art History with a medieval concentration in both and she still longs at times for a return to those days sitting in dark lecture halls, looking at slides of old triptychs and reliquaries. Prior to becoming a full time writer, she was a corporate attorney, serving for many years as the Chief of Staff of one of Harvard Medical Schools premier teaching sites. Her idea of absolute heaven is a day filled with nothing but her computer, her dog and her coffee pot and the Brothers, of course.
