Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Peter Quill and his fellow Guardians are hired by a powerful alien race, the Sovereign, to protect their precious batteries from invaders. But Rocket has stolen the batteries, so the Sovereign dispatches their armada after them. As the Guardians try to escape, what remains of armada the Guardians haven’t shot out of space, is mysteriously blown up. Rocket sees a spaceship, ridden by a “tiny” man, but his fellow Guardians think he is making it up. They end up on a planet way beyond the universe, peopled only by an empathic alien and a man, who Peter discovers is his father and the same man Rocket has seen earlier.

Although I enjoyed watching this sequel, it lacked some of the freshness, fun, and cleverness of the first film, but it still carried enough to save it and make it worth going to see. Old favorite characters return and there are new ones added into the mix, while music from Peter’s Volume 2 cassette are played for background music. And do stay for the credits, as five little scenes, not the usual two, are spaced through it.

I give “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2” 4 outer space sheep.

  2. Great review. To be honest the Guardians of the Galaxy are my least favorite of the franchise. The only reason I would see it is for Baby Groot.
