My Soul Immortal tells the story of Jack, a mysterious immortal who has lived for over 100 years. Jack doesn’t fully understand his gift of immortality and has spent a good chunk of his long existence resenting it. For decades, Jack has been haunted by the memory of his lost love Lydia. To conceal his gift, Jack must maintain a low profile and remain on the move. In his newest identity as a bookstore clerk in Portland Maine, Jack meets Leah, an exact likeness of his lost Lydia.
My Soul Immortal is well-written and rather sweet. Jack and Leah are likable characters. The story has a strong sense of realism despite its paranormal elements. I preferred the second half of the book as Printy established an interesting premise for future installments. I found the book to have a young adult vibe; much too vanilla for my taste. Leah is young and lacks the grit, depth, and maturity I prefer in a female lead character.
The premise of this book is intriguing and the series has potential. I particularly enjoyed the complexity and mystery of Artagan and would be interested in seeing this character further integrated into future installments.
