Religious Science Fiction: IKONA by M.D. Dixon + excerpt

The concept of interconnectedness surfaces in a vision that spans from contemporary cityscapes to a fractured future in IKONA by M.D. Dixon.

This story follows four strangers who are unknowingly linked by an ancient, healing cross, examining how personal sacrifice and collective evolution are often intertwined. It is a contemplative look at how the choices made in the present ripple through the fabric of time.

As the resonance of the cross pulls them together, these four must navigate the shifting realities of their existence. The ultimate question becomes which future they will inhabit and what price they must pay to secure a path toward healing.

IKON
by M.D. Dixon
February 20, 2026
Genre: Religious Science Fiction & Fantasy, Genetic Engineering
A mysterious Russian Orthodox cross, a holy icon with inexplicable healing power, begins to surface across cities, lifetimes, and fractured timelines.

Four strangers find themselves drawn into its field—from the bustle of Sydney, Hong Kong, Atlanta and Berlin to the stark quiet of Siberia’s post-apocalyptic tundra.

In Atlanta, Kate Davies witnesses the icon’s strange effect on a sick child. In Sydney, Finley Minor is haunted by visions of possible futures and the quiet weight of consequence. Jia Li MacPherson, former thief and Shibari performer, holds secrets that powerful forces would kill to keep buried. Wallace Deng Moroz, a monk living a century ahead, clings to visions of a cure in a world where a genetic engineering catastrophe has nearly ended humanity, and the political landscape is dangerously polarised.

The convergence of these four heroes feels destined, yet it is shaped by choice – and the deeper they move into the cross’s resonance, the more the question shifts:

Which version of the future will they choose to inhabit?

And what must be surrendered to reach it?

IKONA is a visionary novel of shifting realities and inner reckonings—a meditation on time, memory, and healing.

FINLEY & THE SEA
MAY 2019
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

Finley Minor was by his own accounts an empty man, a listless man, spiritually and emotionally sparse. Blink a thousand times and his course in life would not have shifted an inch. He was motionless like a chameleon in the presence of a threat. But this was not fact, only fear, and that of a man who knew that he’d not lived at full throttle and had succumbed to the fate of it —a slow and shallow life. He ruminated on it. He judged himself for it. He laughed at his own expense, without thinking he might ever change a thing.

In the way one always has a beginning, a great excuse, this was Finley’s: at the age of seven, in his native England, he sat on the beach as his stick wove tessellations in the sand (almost of its own accord, it seemed in retrospect), and he looked to the horizon towards France with the open, impressionable curiosity of his young age. He wondered at the sea’s depth, its great distance, how one might (as many had) swim across the channel, what creatures might lurk there, what they might feel like against bare skin. He imagined something slimy and cold, fanged, and slithering. The waves seemed to roar at him, even though they descended in the rockpools with the gentleness of pooling cream.

He stood, determined to satisfy his curiosity. He took halting steps over the rocks and shells, straight ahead, then bearing left around a rock face that jutted into the sea. He sat on a big, flat rock and stared into the gray water. He heard his father calling out his name, but ignored him. The water rushed in again and again, and each time reached further and further, first sucking at his toes, then his heels, then his knees. His curiosity fled; he became afraid, and all sound was magnified, the dull ocean roar, the seagull squawking a few feet away, his heartbeat. He knew he had to go back to shore. He waved to his father, stood, and took a faltering step. There was a low murmur; the water fizzled once more in retreat from the rocky sand like the gasping breath of a dying man. He felt dizzy and fell to his knees. He crouched on all fours and steadied himself as the water swirled and grasped at him, and the sky looped and the clouds fell from the corner of his eyes. He felt his head winched back towards the horizon, and the sea reached for his throat. Blackness.

When he came to, dragged back to shore by his father, he announced that his aunt would never return from her CĆ“te D’Azur holiday. He wagged his finger towards the surf and pulled a face, “Over there, there is smooching.”

The official prognosis was that he’d had an epileptic fit, though none of the tests proved it. He must have passed out, in that case, the doctor pronounced, low blood sugar, a low-level virus, dehydration.

But Finley knew, only he knew.

The ocean had rent a hole in his soul, and let in the future.

Fairy tales warned me about monsters. I never thought I’d become one.

A deal with a goddess gave me life. Twenty-five borrowed years, and now the debt is due. With my final birthday looming, I set out to save myself. Instead, I end up caught between two warring packs and hunted by rival alphas and their betas. Torin, Noble, Mathis, and Dax are dangerous, ruthless, and powerful beyond imagination.

They scent what I am the moment I step into their territory. And they refuse to let me go.

But I’m not prey. I’m something more—moon-touched, goddess-marked, with claws sharp enough to draw blood.

When I’m taken by the deadliest pack in the country, something ancient awakens inside me. Now my four wolves stand at my side as war closes in and the Blood Moon Pack threatens to tear everything apart. Loving them should make me stronger, but I might be the key to saving the packs…or destroying them all.

These wolves may think they’re the apex predators, but Little Red has claws and I bite back.

The Obscura Syndicate: A Dark Gothic Romance
by Raven Storme
January 31, 2026
Lira was meant to die for the throne.

Cassian Vale was trained to be the blade that ended her.

But the moment he hesitates—one heartbeat, one breath—everything forbidden ignites.

Now the deadliest man in the Syndicate is the only thing standing between Lira and a prophecy that demands her blood. He should fear her. He should kill her. Instead… he can’t stop wanting her.

She’s the girl marked for sacrifice.
He’s the weapon shaped to obey.

Together, they become the spark that threatens to burn Obscura to ashes

As Lira’s power awakens and the throne tightens its grip, their desire becomes its own kind of danger—raw, consuming, and impossible to survive untouched. Enemies hunt them. Shadows follow them. And the kingdom whispers one truth:

If Cassian doesn’t ruin her, she’ll ruin him.

A dark, seductive story of prophecy, power, and a love so intense it could topple a kingdom.

Excerpt

“You shouldn’t look at me like that,” Cassian said.

I didn’t stop.

“How should I look at you?” I asked, stepping closer, close enough to feel the heat rolling off his body. “Like a monster?”

His jaw clenched. “Like someone who can ruin you.”

I smiled. “You already have.”

His hand came up fast, pinning me to the wall—not violent, but unyielding. His body crowded mine, every inch of him a warning I ignored willingly.

“You don’t understand what you’re inviting,” he murmured.

“I understand exactly,” I said, fingers sliding into his coat, finding the steady thrum of his heart. “You don’t touch things you don’t intend to keep.”

His breath stuttered.

“Say that again,” he said.

“I’m not afraid of you.”

That was the moment he lost control.

His mouth crushed to mine, all restraint burned away, and the world narrowed to breath, skin, and the terrifying certainty that neither of us would walk away unchanged.

Interview: Paranormal Romance Author Dania Voss + giveaway

How long have you been writing?
I began writing my first novel, On the Ropes in 2017 and was published in early 2018. It was such a thrill. Years of dreaming about being published and then making it happen. I wished I had started sooner!

Do the characters all come to you at the same time or do some of them come to you as you write?
The main characters and important secondary characters are planned out ahead of time. And sometimes depending on how the story progresses, I find I need to create additional minor characters to fill in plot gaps and story lines.

What kind of research do you do before you begin writing a book?
So many things to research! I wish readers understood how much time many of us put into researching for stories and series.

Just to name a few research areas: meanings of names, professions, details about where characters live, housing (Realtor.com and Zillow.com are my best friends), clothing, wedding and bridesmaid dresses, makeup, cultural traditions and stereotypes, etc.

Do you see writing as a career?
Up until a couple of years ago I had a very demanding full-time job in IT so I snuck in writing when I could. Since getting laid off at the end of 2023, my time is now my own and I see writing as my new career at long last. 😊

Do you read yourself and if so what is your favorite genre?
I love to read but as a “slower” writer, if I get too caught up reading, that interferes with my writing. I do enjoy many sub-genres of romance. And I like the steamy stuff but also read the not so steamy stuff too.

Do you prefer to write in silence or with noise? Why?
I prefer quite for writing time. I used to have the television on but muted, but it was easy to get distracted. The internet is distracting enough without adding television distractions.

Do you write one book at a time or do you have several going at a time?
I write one at time. I like to start something and finish. If I get an idea for another story while I’m writing another, I’ll jot down notes so I can come back to it later.

Pen or type writer or computer?
I use a laptop with a 17.3” screen. I keep things simple and use MS Word since the formatting software uses it. I have a smaller 15.6” backup laptop. I’m a hardcore Windows gal.

Tessa was impressed by Dario’s and Fabrizio’s generosity. She now understood why Emelia had sung Dario’s praises since she’d started at the magazine two years ago.

Over delicious and filling appetizers, they helped Emelia calm down and organize what needed to be done in the next couple of hours before she and Fabrizio flew to Boston.

“I hate leaving you in the lurch for so many weeks though, Dario,” Emelia lamented. Then she glanced at Tessa with excitement in her eyes. “I know! Tessa should fill in for me while I’m gone. The idiots she worked for laid her off two days ago. That job was beneath her anyway. It would be perfect.”

Tessa’s head was spinning. In a matter of minutes, she had all of Emelia’s magazine system login credentials, had hugged her goodbye, and was now alone with Dario.

Who had removed his costume cape and was now gloriously shirtless.

She bolted out of her chair, needing to put some distance between them, and leaned against his desk. “Surely you can find someone else to fill in for Emelia. Someone already at the magazine? I appreciate her confidence in me, but I can’t work for you.”

Dario raised a brow from his seat at the conference table. Hunger flared in his hypnotic blue eyes. “Because of your shifter bias, as Emelia put it?”

A flush crept across Tessa’s cheeks as he called her out on her shifter issues. “I… I’ll admit shifters make me uncomfortable. I mean no offense to you and yours personally.”

Dario regarded her compassionately before he stood and walked toward her. He stopped in front of her, leaving some much-needed space between them. Still, she felt his body heat and her pulse ratcheted up.

“I appreciate that. Think of the practicalities, though. You’d be helping your friend when she needs you and finally getting work experience worthy of your Columbia MBA.”

Dario was right of course, but he did strange things to her emotions. Tessa felt out of control around him and that scared the shit out of her. “I could get that work experience anywhere. I don’t need to get it from your magazine. Why are you so insistent?” He stealthily got closer, making her tremble against her will, his unique scent driving her insane with desire.

He twirled a lock of her hair around his fingers, and Tessa’s body lit up with awareness. How did he do that?

“Because you, per sempre mio, are my mate.”

Tessa couldn’t bring herself to resist when Dario captured her lips in a hungry kiss. Their tongues tangled greedily, and her head swam. Their connection was electric. He tasted like heaven and sin, and she was hopelessly hooked.

They were both panting when they broke apart. “No. I can’t be your mate.” She whispered, but in her heart, she believed Dario was probably right.

“I know it doesn’t fit with your shifter bias narrative, but I and my lion knew the moment we saw you; the moment we smelled your delectable scent that you were our destiny. Our primal destiny.” Dario didn’t stop her when she moved away from him and rubbed her arms, nearly in a panic.

“You might be mistaken.”

“I’m absolutely certain and I think you are too. You feel the mating bond just as I do, don’t you?

If that’s what she felt toward him was called, she did. “No, I don’t. I’ll help Emelia out because she needs me, but we can’t ever kiss again. I mean it.”

The deep timbre of Dario’s laugh sent chills down Tessa’s spine.

“Oh, my sweet mate, but we will. Many more times. Because you’ll want to. You can count on it,” Dario declared as a wicked grin spread across his face.

Thaelyn Marren enters the Asgar Training Academy wanting nothing more than to prove herself amongst the other cadets, where she must endure life-threatening trials in the hope of manifesting air, water, fire, or earth magic. Not to mention, a lucky few will pair with dragons who select their riders with ancient instinct, answering only to those whose souls burn bright enough to match their own.

When Thaelyn’s power stirs in ways no instructor can explain, she draws the attention of the crown, particularly Prince Thorne Dareth, a renowned warrior and a dragon rider. Hardened by discipline and haunted by a kingdom he was born to serve, Thorne sees Thaelyn as a danger to the realm and yet is charged with her training. And amidst clashing personalities, an undeniable pull forms between them, potent enough to awaken dark forces that once tore the world apart.

Now rift-born creatures thought to exist only in nightmares are slipping through the cracks of their reality. And as they push the realm toward open war, Thaelyn may be the only one able to stop what’s coming. That is, only if Thorne can choose between loyalty to his crown or the girl whose power could either save their world or bring it to ruin.

He only sees him once a year—at a masquerade where names are forbidden and masks never come off.

Decades ago, Aurelio fell under the spell of a masked lover at the infamous Starlit Masquerade, a sensual evening where the rules of propriety seem to bend. Their nights were wild, unforgettable, and entirely anonymous—just how the enchanted Valentine’s ball was designed to be. Since then, Aurelio has returned year after year, aching for another night in the arms of the Fae who left him breathless.

But this year, something shifts.

Enter Myles Anthysius—the Secretary of the Sovereign and everything Aurelio never knew he wanted: poised, kind, disarmingly charming. As Myles begins to chip away at the walls around his heart, Aurelio must face a choice between an untouchable fantasy and the very real, very unmasked male who sees him for who he is.
Will he cling to the past, or finally allow himself to be known?

Set in the world of The Heir of Atlantis, Unmasking Aurelio is a spicy MM romantasy novella filled with longing glances, spicy encounters, and the kind of love that dares to unmask itself. Perfect for Valentine’s Day and anyone who’s ever fallen for the one they thought they couldn’t have.

This novella can be read as a standalone and requires no prior knowledge of the series. Intended for readers aged 18 and older.

Thank you for showing interest in my books. I have always had a love for writing. Growing up I always wrote short stories in notebooks for fun. I was raised by a single mother so I spent a lot of time alone. Now that I am older my love for writing has only grown. I have always dreamed of sharing my stories but always been too afraid to, with the encouragement of friends and family I decided that it was time to make my dreams reality. I can't thank you, the readers enough for supporting me and my work. I hope you enjoy this little piece of me.
