The year is 2410. Humanity is living in a golden age, having worked together to stop global warming and bring world peace. Eventually they launched themselves to the stars, colonizing first Mars and then terraforming Europa. Jupiter’s moon is a near Utopia for everyone who lives there, until a series of terrifying murders rock the fabric of society. The Police and their Criminal Profiler Noah Peterson investigate, but things aren’t what they first appear. The Serial Killer leaves no prints, and video surveillance mysteriously malfunctions when they’re near. Who or what is the killer? Supernatural or natural? And does Noah know more than he is saying? A game of cat and mouse ensues, where deep dark secrets are revealed; secrets that ensure that Noah and everyone he knows will never be the same again.
Futuristic books are my jam most of the time. Yet, I felt this one missed the mark. Quick synopsis: Humanity's made it to Europa and settled there. Crime rate is close to zero when suddenly a serial killer emerges. Our protagonist is the psychological expert who consults with the cops. Things get dicey when all the evidence starts pointing to the protagonist being the killer.
Here are some reasons I didn't enjoy this book as much as I'd expected to:
Fairly inaccurate depiction of how a police investigation works. I mean, the cops involved in it kept disclosing every tiny detail to the suspect's girlfriend. Who does that? They also help the guy get away from the cops in another jurisdiction in one instance. One of them cannot make up her mind about whether the guy's innocent or not. That wouldn't be an issue in itself if she were a cop and acted on those impulses in a professional capacity. Very weird and totally unbelievable!
There was a lot of telling when it came to the details of what life was like on Europa. If I'm reading about the serial killer about to pick up a samurai sword and plunge it into someone, I don't necessarily want to know how the trains work at that exact moment--if ever. Those info dumps kept pulling me out of the story.
The conclusion--hint, look at the title--came across as weird. I mean, I expected a lot of things to be the reason behind the murders, but it all came down to something that felt very out-of-the-blue, unrelated, and not at all satisfying.
So, those are my thoughts on The Daemon's Wish.

Most of my go-to series are 3 starrers
*No rating - wasn't my genre/dnf'd so rating it would be unfair
1 sheep - won't be picking up another book in a series again
2 sheep - average read with overused tropes and cliches. Will give the author another try/only continuing because of OCD, so must finish a series
2.5 sheep - liked the book but was put off because it was overly long/illtreatment of a character the author had me invest in and so on.
3 sheep - enjoyed the book but have reservations because I expected to be wowed and wasn't
4 sheep - was unputdownable
5 sheep - formed an emotional connection, will read the heck outta this series
