When outlaw Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) discovers that his enemy Rufus Buck (Idris Elba) is being released from prison he rounds up his gang to track Rufus down and seek revenge. Those riding with him in this assured, righteously new school Western include his former love Stagecoach Mary (Zazie Beetz), his right and left hand men--hot-tempered Bill Pickett (Edi Gathegi) and fast drawing Jim Beckwourth (R.J. Cyler)--and a surprising adversary-turned-ally. Rufus Buck has his own fearsome crew, including "Treacherous" Trudy Smith (Regina King) and Cherokee Bill (LaKeith Stanfield), and they are not a group that knows how to lose.

A little history lesson! The characters in The Harder They Fall are real historical figures. Stagecoach Mary, Rufus Buck, Trudy Smith, Cherokee Bill, and more. This story is completely fictitious but the people were real. You can read about them HERE.

Once I saw the massive talent in the cast of The Harder They Fall, and the trailer, I knew I had to see it. I went in expecting a "western" action movie like all the others released but it was so much different than that. It was a western...but it had a modern twist and a kickass modern soundtrack. I also didn't expect the humor. It's a drama/action movie but there is also a clever wit to it. Don't want to ruin the joke but the "white people's bank" was hilarious!
The acting is excellent from the minor characters to the main. Cuffe was my favorite!
I went in with preconceived ideas of what a western movie was and my brain had to catch up with what I was watching lol. It is an entertaining (but violent) movie with a big twist at the end.

The ending leaves a possibility of a sequel, maybe? You'll find me in line for it!
