This book is ridiculous. If you never played a fighting game back in the days of the NES or watched those all-attitude action films of the 80s, this book won't make a lick of sense to you. And even then, Burn the Orphanage is probably gonna leave you scratching your head.
Meet Rock. He's an orphan. When he was a boy, someone burned down the orphanage, and Rock has been seeking revenge ever since. Which has been years, since the story starts with him as an adult kicking and punching his way through the city's streets and alleyways in search of answers.
First question that popped into my head: Has he been doing this the whole time since the orphanage burned down? Apparently so, and he's apparently not that bright either, because it's only now that his taped fists of fury have managed to pound the faces of some people who can give him the answers he wants.
Okay, so along for the ride with the spontaneous and nonsensical brawling is Rock's best friend, Bear. Bear has a bear's heart, hence the name. Get it? Oh, and Lex. She's the sister he never had and just as passionate about kicking butt as Rock and Bear. Good thing too, considering the room full of stripper ninjas. Yeah, you read that right. Stripper ninjas.
Fun at times, frustrating at others, Burn the Orphanage is a schizophrenic homage to twelve-year-old daydreams of being a bad-ass. Logic is on holiday in this series, folks. My inner child loves it, but my inner curmudgeon would like just a little bit more in terms of story development.
