Today we bring you our one on one interview with Dougal Kincaid, the hero from The Vampire with the Dragon Tattoo, book 14 in the epic Love at Stake series by PNR author Kerrelyn Sparks. We had a TON of fun with this sexy man and Kerrelyn was kind enough to throw in some goodies that you can win!
Katie's Diary Entry: It's a cold and stormy night; we've traveled to an undisclosed location high in the Scottish mountains. Before the journey up the treacherous wall of never-ending rock, we're blindfolded and tied up. It took us days to reach the summit, but it was a journey that would forever change our lives, a journey that would lead us to the man who's held my heart for years. The one whose eyes burn with a fire that never goes out, with a love for his fellow countrymen and honor that would take your breath away. A man whose body I've dreamed about for-
Sharon: Riiight, so before Katie goes on and on, let's just stop her. Someone please pull out the duct tape... the one with sheep on it. We keep it handy around here. Anywho, it's nice to meet you Dougal, thanks for taking the time to sit down and chat with us today.
Katie: Dougal, for those that don't know, please tell us a little about yourself. *makes googly eyes*
Dougal: *shifts uncomfortably in his chair by the giant fireplace* I’m a Scot, as ye well know, and a vampire. As for my past, I doona like to talk aboot it. I was fatally wounded at Culloden in 1746, but Connor found me where I lay dying, and he transformed me.
Katie: I know! Gods above my heart broke for you! I'll avenge those bastards for you! Sharon, grab my battle axe and let's do this!
*Sharon hits Katie on the head with a rolled up newspaper*
Sharon: Bad Katie, bad! No battle axes for you! You know what happened last time…
Katie: What's happened since we last touched base with you in Wild About You? *scoots closer*
Sharon: *Hands Dougal a flyswatter* We’ve had this problem before…continue.
Dougal: *frowns at the flyswatter he’s now holding in his prosthetic hand* I work for MacKay Security and Investigation, and I lost my right hand in battle in 2008. Since then, I’ve been head of security for Jean-Luc Echarpe and his family in Texas. Jean-Luc is an expert swordsman, so he doesna need much protection. *Sighs* I was more of a glorified babysitter. But now, Roman and Abigail (Gregori’s wife) have fitted me with this new hand, and I’ve learned to fence with it. My boss, Angus, has finally decided I can do more than babysit, so I’ve just accepted a new job as head of security at Romatech. I’m looking forward to proving myself worthy. And there’s a new scientist arriving tonight. Everyone says she’s a genius. Her name is Leah Chin. *His prosthetic hand clenches, and the flyswatter snaps in two*
Katie: Oh, head of security? I do love a man in uniform….
Sharon: You mean “out of”.
Katie: You say Potato, I say potatoe.
Dougal: *wincing, he kicks the broken flyswatter under his chair* Well, actually, I’ll still be wearing my kilt.
Sharon: Are you into art? Have a favorite type?
Katie: Beside me of course.
Dougal: Art? I... *His eyes glaze over as he remembers* I like Oriental art.
Katie: You've got this faraway look in your eyes Dougal, why the interest in that particular art? Hmm?
Dougal: *his prosthetic hand clenches suddenly and he frowns at it* I doona like to discuss my past.
Katie: Moving on. Can I touch your prosthetic hand and since this is purely for science, I'll need to sit in your lap.
*Sharon hands Dougal a taser*
Dougal: *blinks in surprise at the girl in his lap and the taser in his hand* I doona want to hurt you, lass. *He sets the taser down, then gently sets Katie on her feet* I doona know why, but my new hand is behaving a wee bit strangely. *He winces* Ye willna tell Angus that, will ye? He may no’ let me keep my new job if he thinks I canna control my hand.
Katie: Oh no, your secret is safe with us.
Sharon: What do you think about your author? She seems like a really nice lady. Got something you want to say to her?
Dougal: Och, ye mean Kerrelyn. She frightens me a wee bit. She knows all my secrets, and she’s bound and determined to write it all doon. She keeps telling me no’ to fash, that she can make all my dreams come true. I doona know how, since all my hope died long ago.
Katie: Poor, dear, sweet man. Let me hold you close and never let go.
*Sharon tases Katie… just a little bit*
Katie: I've a bone to pick with you. Why a dragon tattoo? I thought we talked about my name across your chest?
Dougal: *gives Katie a sad look* Och, lass. I appreciate yer concern, but I lost my heart many years ago. As for the dragon... *He places his left hand over his chest as his eyes glaze over with a faraway look* It was her idea to use a symbol of power to cover up my mark of shame. *He blinks and sits up* I doona like to talk aboot it.
Katie: Can you play us a little melody on your bagpipes? I'm just going to lay across you while we listen.
Dougal: *smiles* The bagpipes are verra loud, ye ken. I prefer the Uillean pipes, but they rest in my lap while I’m sitting. I canna hold ye both. *His smile fades away* And I canna play verra well with this new hand. I can only manage a slow melody, the kind that tears at yer heart. So I’m afraid the rest of my life will be filled with nothing but sad music. Och, wait a minute. *The strains of Auld Lang Syne fill the room and he reaches into his sporran for his cell phone* Aye. Aye. Verra well. *He hangs up* That was Kerrelyn, and she told me to stop being so bloody morose. She’s going to give me a happy ending if it kills her.
Sharon: Geez! I hope so cause your story is just so… so… *sniff* it’s just my allergies…
Sharon: It's time for some Rapid Fire questions. Hang on to your kilts!
Dougal: *his prosthetic hand clutches his kilt*
*Sharon throws a moonpie at Katie when she tries to peek under his kilt*
Katie: Blondes or brunettes?
Dougal: *gets that faraway look again* She had long black hair.
Katie: I distinctly just heard him say blonde. NEXT question!
Sharon: Short gals or tall?
Dougal: She was tall for her time, but I doona think she would be now.
Katie: Short, he said short.
Katie: Feisty or subdued?
Dougal: *smiles* She was raised to be subdued, but she surprised everyone.
Sharon: Star Trek or Star Wars?
Dougal: *blinks* Och, I’ll have to go with Star Trek because of Scottie.
Katie: Choc body paint or message oil?
Dougal: *sniffs* Is that why ye smell like chocolate, lass?
Katie: Hehe. Just a little something, for later.
Sharon: Mint or gum?
Dougal: I have never tried gum, but I do like Vampos. That’s the after-dinner mint for vampires to get rid of blood breath.
Katie: Hair up or hair down?
Dougal: Doon.
Sharon: Bleer or Bubbly Blood?
Dougal: Bleer, though I like Blissky even better.
Katie: Fight a zombie or fight a dragon?
Dougal: A dragon. A Chinese dragon like the one on my tattoo. I’d want to tame him, so I could ride him through the air. There’s no’ much ye can do with a zombie other than kill the puir bugger.
Sharon: Ride an elephant or Ride a bull?
Dougal: An elephant. There’s room for two.
Katie: Someone bring us an elephant!
Sharon: NO! don’t bring us an elephant! Do you know how much they… um… just NO!
Katie: Dougal, you continue to rock my vampire world. Thank you for
coming over to chat. You'll be taking me home as a door prize!
Dougal: *winces and teleports away*
Katie: Not to worry. I know where he lives.
*Sharon tases Katie, again*

I think wolf tattoos are great and wolf love to see one or more on him.
ReplyDeletesstrode at scrtc dot com
I'm not a big fan of tattoos, but I saw an amazing tattoo of a sun once. Really stunning.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of tattoos however the artwork on some I've seen is awesome.
ReplyDeleteThanks :-)
Lori
Tribal tattoos :) Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMt nieces and nephews have tattoos. Still not sure.
ReplyDeleteI love a barbed wire tat around a well defined bicep. Mmmmmm!
ReplyDeleteI have aprox. 25 tattoos. My b'day is this month and I'm thinking a new tattoo would be the perfect gift (well, that and a bunch of books). I want a 'luck' tattoo. I would like to see a shark tattoo on my husband.
ReplyDeleteOn my hubby, I would like to see a tattoo of eternal, never ending shape!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm I actually never thought about that. I think something old looking symbolizing who he is.
ReplyDeleteNot a big fan of tattoos, but anything done well and on the right spot....
ReplyDeleteI would love to see a scorpion tattoo on my man, denoting my star sign, and they are really amazing creatures xx
ReplyDeleteI doubt my partner would ever get a tattoo, it's against her religious beliefs and after 41 yrs together I'm not going to start pushing for something that won't happen on this side of the veil.
ReplyDeleteMy fiance really wants a tattoo of a wild cat on his arm or chest, "clawing" its way out of his skin. I love that idea and think it would be pretty hot haha
ReplyDeleteMy hubby actually has all the tattoos I'd love lol. He has a dragon, black panther and a tribal. His next one though might be my favorite its a Celtic design.
ReplyDeleteMy husband has an owl on his back!!
ReplyDeleteI love see all kinds of tattoos!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have more than a wee a bit of Welsh in me so I favor the Celtic cross and other yummy Celtic tribal patterns.
ReplyDeletea black rose!
ReplyDeleteMy husband has several tattoos. I would love for him to have a dragon on his back.
ReplyDeleteNot a big fan of tattoos, but Destiny done is a very classy script would be cool.
ReplyDeleteMy bff has the tree of life which swirls up into a crown of thorns...it is stunning!
ReplyDeletei love whimsical ones like cherry blossom tree tattoo
ReplyDeleteAh, Kerrelyn, my heart is all aflutter after reading the interview with Dougal! I love your writing and stories, but ah, those Highlanders! I love them the most. :-) I especially liked the idea of "why the dragon for a tattoo"--that it overpowers the mark of shame. Powerful! Thanks for your post today. jdh2690@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI forgot to answer your question about what tattoo would I like to see on a lover? The face of an owl. They intrigue me. So much wisdom in their eyes. Like they see...therefore, they know.
DeleteI'm not a big fan of tattoos
ReplyDeleteSomething very simple. To me those complicated tattoos just look messy, especially when you see them from a distance.
ReplyDeleteI think a tattoo should be meaningful to the person wearing it, so I would like to see my oldest daughter's name if my husband had one.
ReplyDeleteIm not a tattoo fan but I am kerrelyn sparks fan ^.^ Vanessacortez (at) icloud (dot) com
ReplyDeleteI'm not necessarily a tattoo fan. I would not look at a pair of sleeves and drool but I do like the occasional great work of art. I do enjoy dragons. I wouldn't mind one on my significant other. I might even pet it. *winks*
ReplyDeleteAnything that he wants. Any or none, whatever he likes. My hubs has a flaming eight ball, I don´t have anyone, yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway & Happy Thursday!
//Linda
I would say a book title like "Goodnight Moon" or a phrase like "Trust your heart, and trust your story" by Neil Gaiman. Images are nice, but there's too much room for error.
ReplyDeleteBeing Native American, I love anything to do with Native American artwork for a tattoo.
ReplyDeleteLadies, and Dougal the interview was fantastic. Katie my dear you really need to chill!!!!!!
tcwgrlup41(at)yahoo dot com
cannot wait to read this book!!!
ReplyDeleteLoved the interview and his tat. Not really a tattoo person but on Dougal it looks great :) Thank you for the giveaway and can not wait to read Dougal's story.. Love this series.
ReplyDeleteWhat a FANTASTIC interview and what fun!!!!! Can't wait to read this one!
ReplyDeleteForgot to add..,LOVE tribal tattoos!!!!
Deletea tribal turtle tat
ReplyDeleteLove the interview. Great hints on what Dougals story is going to be, love it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE full shelve tattoos...they're HOT
ReplyDeleteI love tattoos...have a few myself and find that I am always wanting more..LOL I find them especially sexy on some men. Love the books too!!! Great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteCan't really say, I've never gotten into tattoos.
ReplyDeleteA nautical star
ReplyDeleteWhile I love dragons personally. But tattoos are personal. Tattooed or not I would still love the man in life.
ReplyDeleteI can't say for sure what I would want tatted...I love tats as long as they fit the persons personality. If they do that they are awesome!
ReplyDeleteI don't care what just as long as it's tasteful.
ReplyDeleteI love all kinds of tattoos especially celtic tattoos.
ReplyDeleteI like to see a wolf or lion tat on my guy ;) *waves to Kerrelyn* nrslalee00@yahoo.com
ReplyDeletenrslalee00@yahoo.com
DeleteI would like to see my man have a tattoo of something he is very passionate about, maybe his relgion?
ReplyDeletecant wait til his story comes out
ReplyDeleteI love tattoos and my man should definitely have a vampire related one (well, only if he wants lol).
ReplyDeleteI really can't wait for this book. My heart broke when he lost his arm, can't wait to read the rest :) He's my second ever fav vamp in the whole world (Sorry, Connor is STILL #1)
ReplyDeleteAs for tattoos for MY man, uhm, a wolf would be befitting. I call him werewolf. But he's so hairy, I wouldn't know where he can have that tatt. Plus, I can only WISH he has a wolf tattoo. Knowing him, and no one could tell him what to do, he'll probably get something lame like an anchor so he can be like popeye or something scary/gory (uhm beheaded zombie?) so .... *shudder* I guess no one is getting any tattoos anytime soon!
I'm so excited to read this book, the entire series has been so good.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any tattoos and neither does my hubby. I like them, I'm just too big a wuss to get one. But if I were to get one it would be either of a rat * because I love my rats* or of a grim reaper because they are cool as heck.
I like looking at pictures of tattoos, but I'm not sure I'd want one on my man. If there was one, I guess I'd want to see something that means a lot to him. A well done dragon might be nice, or a heart with my name in it. :D
ReplyDeleteI really like tattoos. Tribal tattoos are very common. I think if a man gets a tattoo, it's because it has a meaning to him, and him alone.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read Dougal's book.
I would love dragon tattoo on myself actually and whatever he wants on himself. I think he would look great as long as he likes what the design is (he won't ever get a tattoo though, he hates needles). :)
ReplyDeleteI would love a dragon on my husband, he had an idea for one but he hasn't ever gotten it done. It was of two dragons one European and one Oriental fighting over a stylized heart.
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking of getting one, of books...Hubby wants a dragon though.
ReplyDeletegoaliemom0049(at)gmail(dot)com
I love dragon, celtic ruins or chinese symbols. I think they're beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win, nothing is better than a free read, unless of course you add free chocolate :)
ReplyDeleteI like Celtic/tribal tattoos
ReplyDeleteThank you for this review. Loved it and can not wait to purchase the next Love at Stake book in the series. I have all of them and some that are not of the Stake series. I love Kerrelyn's other books and just read the two, The Forbidden Lady and Less Than A Gentleman. I love all of Ms Sparks books. Would love to win one also. Thanks again for these books about all the 'sexy' vampires! Makes me want to get bit by one!!
ReplyDeleteJoanie
I like tattoos that have meaning to a person. I a pegasus on my back. Thanks for the giveaway. Please enter me.
ReplyDeletehmm. a rose or floral something :)
ReplyDeleteMy man would never get one, but I wouldn't mind something small on his shoulder blade - something only he knew the meaning of. Thank you for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteBonnie Hilligoss/bonhill@speakeasy.net
MINE WOULDNT GET ONE. THANKS FOR THE GIVEAWAY! SHELLEY S. calicolady60@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI would want a Moon and Star, or a wolf paw print, or a wolf image of some sort.
ReplyDeletepenumbrareads(at)gmail(dot)com
I love tats with meaning. My BF has three tats and wants more and I am ALL for that
ReplyDeleteA tattoo that is meaningful to the person getting it.
ReplyDeletei have to agree w/ those saying tats w/ meaning. but not names. also, dragons are always nifty, but i also like those lovely wrap-around bicep tats. mmm. :)
ReplyDeleteI found Kerrelyn Sparks recently and this sounds like a really good story to get trapped in again and again.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read Douglas's story!
ReplyDeleteCharlene

Dragons are my favorite animal!!! I can't wait for this book and Dougal!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dougal for talking with us today and sharing your fun interview. I would love to have a dragon tattoo also, it fact, my daughter is in the process of drawing one for me. I love the Love at Stake series. evamillien at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteWe are not big tattoo fans, if I absolutely have to
ReplyDeleteselect a design for Honey, it would be a small heart
surrounding our first initials.
Pat C.
Any type of Hawaiian tribal tats or art
ReplyDeleteAny tattoo that is original and meaningful. I'm not a fan of flash art. And as a side note that is probably one of the most entertaining interviews I've ever read. Can't wait for Dougals book to be out!
ReplyDeleteI'm not really into tattoos but I do like the look of Celtic symbols and such. Great interview, I hope Katie is ok! :)
ReplyDeleteI love unique tatts tat actually mean something for the person, but I also love tribal tattoos.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I do hope you are OK, Katie. And not doing any twitching after being tased a couple of times :)
DeleteI am really not a fan of body art. I guess maybe a heart or my name? lol I'm so looking forward to Dougal's book! And Katie, I would have been the same way during the interview :P
ReplyDeleteA Celtic Dog would be nice.
ReplyDeleteMy hubbie does not have any but I love them. I'm not sure what to choose. Anyway can't wait for Dougals book.
ReplyDeleteI have a dragon tattoo that covers most of the right side of my back.....on guys, I think well-done tribal or intricate Celtic is HOT!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the amazing character interview and giveaway!
elizabeth @ bookattict . com
I totally swoon over tats --- something tastefully Celtic, perhaps a wolf or dragon, will get my heartrate up!
ReplyDeleteA dragon tattoo works for me!
ReplyDeleteI really love tattoos. Not an excessive one but small ones are good. I have a butterfly at my nape :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!

Love the series. Great interview with Dougal. He's a sweetie.
ReplyDeleteI have 2 tattoo's myself. A Pegasus and a dolphin. They both have a very personal meaning for me. I like most tattoo's as long as people really think about them before getting one and when it have a special meaning for someone.
ReplyDeleteI really hope the give-away is also for international readers:D
I love dragon tattoos (have one myself). I also love to see tribal or celtic knotwork on guys. Mostly though I just love tattoos, especially if they mean something to the person.
ReplyDeleteI too hope this is for international readers seeing as I am in Wales :D
I love tattoos, I have one myself. On any one though I would like for their tattoo to have meaning to that person. For example I'm getting two tattoos in December to represent my children.
ReplyDeleteO my hubby i love the tattoo of the constellation Orion in honor of or oldest son! But a dragon would be sexy as well!
ReplyDeleteI like Celtic designs, but his dragon (as pictured) is pretty cool!
ReplyDeleteI like most tattoos. Hard to pick just one that I would like tho..
ReplyDeleteI would love my man to have some tribal or a Fleur de lis tattoo. Or anything manly. I like most tattoo's so it's all good to me.
ReplyDeletea wolf howling at a moon would be cool.
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend already has 5 tattoos, and the only one I like is the Star Trek one. The Klingon symbol. So I would love it if he did something big on his back.
ReplyDeleteI think dragon tribal mix would be kool. have the dragon worked into the tribal nyum
ReplyDeleteI loved the interview and can't wait for Dougal's story. Love those Highlanders. Love your Vamps Kerrelyn.
ReplyDeleteI'm not into tattoos so much but I'd like to see something in a Celtic design.

Something meaningful to him. I like tattoos that people get for a reason, instead of just wanting one.
ReplyDeleteLOVE me some Kerrelyn Sparks' novels!!!! I've been waiting on Dougal's book for forever!
Cant wait for Dougal's story.
ReplyDeleteCeltic Love knot
ReplyDeleteI saw a tattoo on one of my fave sites in the past few weeks that showed a wolf breaking through the man's flesh (on his chest). The wolf was teeth and skull and vicious and brutal. The tattoo was tremendously gruesome and hardcore. If a person is going to put something permanent on his skin, get something that makes a REAL statement. That certainly did. Thanks for the giveaway. michelle_willms@yahoo.com
ReplyDeletemy husband has a dragon tattoo over his shoulders - just got it finished a couple of months ago. Makes him look all tough and stuff :)
ReplyDeletedragon
ReplyDeleteI love Celtic designs...they represent my heritage.
ReplyDeleteit's been a while since i have this much fun reading character interview. good job ladies!!
ReplyDeleteas for the tats, i choose none. i didn't like tats :D
I'm not really into tatoos. I'm not opposed to them, just don't want one myself. My hubby hates them. I guess we were made for each other.
ReplyDeleteA small sunrise for new beginnings.
ReplyDeleteMy fiance has a bunch of tattoos. I like his Samurai and dragon tattoos the best. I have one and want another.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading this interview and can't wait for the book.
I like tattoos that are unique and reflect the person. If I was to get one, it would be along the lines of a quill pen with blood for the ink to represent how I love to write or a vintage black and white camera to represent my passion for photography :D
ReplyDeleteI love tattoos! I have a couple of them but I'm not a huge fan of the tribal ones. I like the animal ones; the meaning for each animal is really cool in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteMy grandson design's tattoos and I told him that when he design's me a small one I will get it. I am so looking forward to Dougal's story. I cried when he lost his hand *yes, I WILL ADMIT IT*
ReplyDeleteMy husband has seven tats but I'm not too crazy about any of them. I wish he had dragon or phoenix tats. Those are so sexy!
ReplyDeleteamberdaulton86@gmail.com

ReplyDeleteI'd like my husband to have a smiley face on his right butt cheek!
ReplyDeletemy mom has kiss it on her butt...yes i said my mom...but really anything of personal meaning/importance.
ReplyDeleteI love the celtic tree of life my husband has on his back.
ReplyDeleteI like celtic knots.
ReplyDeleteI would never be able to get my hubby to get a tatoo, but if he had a momentary loss of sanity, I would like to see some type of cross symbol. I really like the Messianic Seal of Jerusalem.
ReplyDeleteA well done dragon would be pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteMy step brother wants me to get a tattoo on my foot. Last summer I had a bone infection and lost my big toe and some bones in my foot. My loving brother wants me to have an arrow pointing to where my toe should be and the words "Gone to Market" under it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a fan of tattoos, but I love those tattoos of wolf paw prints. Wolves are my favorite animal ever; they're just so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI would like a dragon tattoo. Or maybe a tiger. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the scorpio tattoos. And as long it has a them not a bunch on this and that. ....cteague9@gmail.com
ReplyDeletea celtic cross. just love it
ReplyDeleteNone! We made it through the Navy without tattoos, I think we can manage more. Though I dearly love dragons...
