Like to laugh? Love mayhem? Do hot, sexy love scenes turn you on? Wanna know if a not quite human meter maid can find love with a billionaire Alpha wolf. Or will her enemies cut their romance short?

Excerpt:
I climbed into the Monte Carlo, careful not to sit on the spring poking through the torn seat cover and started it up. The car shuddered violently, backfired, and belched a cloud of thick, black smoke. Oh swell. This car was a motorcycle cop’s wet dream. I put the Monte Carlo in gear. The belts squealing loudly, the car lurched down the street.

“Don’t attract attention to myself, he says, kinda hard not to in this car,” I muttered and flipped on the air-conditioning. Dirt, dust, and hot air blasted from the vents, turning the interior of the car into a mini sandstorm. By the time I managed to turn it off, I was coated in muck. Morales had a nasty sense of humor.

A big, hairy spider crawled across the dash.

“Holy shit!” I did a kamikaze cut across two lanes of traffic.

Horns honked, tires squealed, and people shouted profane curses as I zigzagged wildly around their cars. Skidding into a Safeway parking lot, I managed to stop the Monte Carlo an inch from the front bumper of a black Ford F450 truck. Whew! That had been too damn close. The demon car shuddered violently, and the engine died.

The spider hopped up on the steering wheel.

With an ear-shattering shriek, I bailed out of the car. “Oh my God. Oh my God.”

“Have you lost your fucking mind?” An angry male voice bellowed.

“Spider,” I hollered back. My actions might seem extreme to most folks, but they hadn’t been locked in a shed with hundreds of arachnids crawling over them. In the dark. For hours. Daddy dearest said it was to break me of my fear of spiders. His therapy made it worse. I grabbed a bat out of the backseat and knocked the creepy crawly out of the car.

It landed on the man’s shiny black boots.

I raised the bat.

The bat was yanked out of my hand. “Are you off your meds?”

Ignoring angry guy, I did the Cha-Cha on the spider’s hairy ass. A zillion baby spiders ran in every direction. “Shit! Shit! Shit!” I jumped on the hood of my car.

“You’re fucking nuts.” Angry guy stared down at his scuffed-up leather. “You’re paying to get my boots shined.”

“Sure. Whatever.” I watched the spiders crawl up his pants legs. “Just keep your distance.”

“And if I don’t?”

My gaze snapped to angry guy’s face. The first thing I noticed was his eerie silver blue eyes and how he towered over me. Crap, he made the General look like a midget. Shaggy black hair framed the sculptured perfection of his face. Yowzers! He was hot. I studied his hard body. Those muscles hadn’t come from a gym. Nope, he had earned them, but how? Was he a soldier? Or a bounty hunter? Or maybe a cop? He oozed authority.

In a quiet, scary voice he commanded, “Move your car, lady.”

“I can’t.” I slid off the hood, keeping out of his reach.

Angry guy gave me a smile fit for a bloodthirsty maniac. “Can’t or won’t?”

“I’m allergic to spiders.”

He took a menacing step toward me and wrinkled his nose. “Have you been dumpster diving?”

“God, no. I’m not that hungry yet.”

“Why do you smell like rotted food?”

I sighed. “It’s the car.”

“The car?”

The disbelief in his voice made me want to scream. “I’ll have you know; I didn’t look or smell like this ten minutes ago. That car is possessed,” I snapped.

“Possessed?” He cocked an amused eyebrow.

“Yeah. It is.” Figured. The first hot guy I meet, and he thinks I’m an escapee from the nut house.

“Move the damn car. I have an appointment in ten minutes,” angry guy growled.

“The keys are in the ignition. Move it yourself.”

“You’re a real piece of work.” Angry guy crammed himself into the driver’s seat and winced.

“Watch out for the spring,” I called about thirty seconds too late.

Angry guy bared his teeth at me.

Huh? It almost looked like he had fangs. I shook my head to clear it. I hadn’t slept in two days. Was I starting to hallucinate?

Vulgar curses filled the air.

I smothered a laugh. Angry guy’s knees were jammed under the steering wheel and no matter how hard he tried to move the seat back, it wouldn’t budge.

“Told ya. It’s possessed,” I yelled.

“When’s the last time you did any maintenance on this piece of crap?”

I shrugged. “Never. Just bought it.”

“Not too bright, are you?”

After the week from hell, I was done with arrogant males. I gave him the one fingered salute. “Fuck off. The Monte Carlo fits my budget.”

“You’d be better off taking the bus,” Angry guy said and started the engine. The minute he put the Monte Carlo in gear, the air-conditioner kicked on, and a cloud of dust whooshed out of the vents, blinding him. The engine revved like a race car. Vroom. Vroom. Vroom.

“Easy buddy. It’s an old car,” I shouted.

The vehicle suddenly zoomed forward, then veered to the left. Boom! The Chevy hit a yield sign. A geyser of steam gushed from under the hood.

I threw my hands up in the air. “Who taught you how to drive asshole?”

Angry guy climbed out of the Monte Carlo. His face was caked with dirt and his once pristine white dress shirt was a grimy mess.

I smothered a laugh. If looks could kill, I’d be dead. “Now do you believe me?”

Guest Post + Review: Blood Moon: Diary of a Highland Massacre: Fate of the True Vampires Novella, 3 by Christine Church + giveaway

ABOUT THE SERIES
Scotland has been in my blood since I was young, and in 1992, I was finally able to see the country I loved, when I flew over there to “live with” a male friend in the late 1990’s. At that time, I was writing a vampire novel about a woman named Kesi who was an ancient hybrid human/God blood drinker (it’s less complicated than it sounds) who was “collecting” who she considered the ‘perfect’ humans to turn into vampires so she could have a vampire family. Wolfe Stewart (the journal writer in Blood Moon), though not one of Kesi’s “children,” played a role in the whole of the story.

That novel sat for decades until, in 2015, I decided to revamp it (pun intended), tear it apart and make something completely different out of it. That is when I got the idea to have Kesi tell her own story. As she lived way back thousands of years ago in ancient Egypt, I knew these couldn’t be just any journal entries written in some store-bought leather journal with flowers on the cover; they’d have been written on scrolls and be so old as to barely be readable.

That is when I got the idea of “duping” the public by making Kesi’s story seem like “real” documents discovered by an archaeologist, hidden in the sands of Egypt, then restored, translated and published. Something no one else has ever done.

Of course, I never actually duped anyone into thinking these were real. But, I have had a number of reviewers write that they definitely read as being real, and that’s good enough for me.

After Book One, I received a lot of feedback from readers wanting to know more about Kesi’s background and her family, so for Book Two I did a Prequel, taking the reader all the way back to the beginning, long before even the pyramids were built.

Many readers showed a big interest in Wolfe Stewart and Fergus MacGregor (a mute vampire? Whaaa…?), who have a chapter in book one, Sands of Time. Since I was trying to publish these books by chronological date, and since book one actually ends (as a to be continued) in 1789, I went back a bit to 1692 and told Wolfe’s story for book three, Blood Moon: Diary of a Highland Massacre.

So far, that book seems to be everyone’s favorite. But, book four, Love’s Tragedy, is now out and continues where book one left off in 1789 France.

Can you tell I love history?

Most of the books in this series are novellas, because the journal entries (all “discovered” in various locales, translated, published) are straight and to the point writings of the character’s journey and how they were “made” vampires and where they will fall on the timeline of this series.

Going forward, as more vampires are made and introduced, the characters will begin to mesh in interesting ways (such as in attempting to locate and take down Yin) and will come together more and more. So, I guess you can look at the series so far as a sort of “intro” to the characters before the big story (which has been merely introduced), which will involve everyone and take interesting twists and turns as characters come and go and try to live their lives within the confines of their individual circumstances. And of course in the center of all of it is Kesi Akhede… and with her at the helm, no one can ever guess what’s going to happen next (not even me)!

ISBN: 978-0692063095
ASIN: B07317PW2R
Number of pages: 74

Read the 17th-century journals of Wolfe Amus MacDonald Stewart and discover the truth to an age-old mystery.

Scottish Highlands, 1692. Befell the tragedy of Mort Ghlinne Comhann, also known as the Murder at Glencoe.

Despite his own incongruous past, all Wolfe Stewart wants is a simple life, free from the persecutions of the Crown. And when he rescues a Child of the Mist from an “Asian man who disappears into the snow as if he were never there,” Wolfe has received his wish. However, mysteries still plague him. He gets no answers, but more questions when a familiar stranger arrives with his cousin and Regiment soldiers to take up the hospitality of the MacDonalds of Glencoe for a fortnight.

Little did the clan suspect what would soon befall them. After the massacre on 13 February, 1692, most MacDonalds lay dead, many exposed to the elements perished, homes burned. Wolfe and his friend Fergus are taken away for reasons unknown.

But why would Campbell and his men commit such a hideous and unholy crime? The truth will not be found in history books. The beast behind this tragic night holds nothing but greed within his heart, and using the Jacobite risings as his cover, he gets what he wants and leaves behind death and suffering.

As far as novellas go, this one gets high marks for hitting all the key plot notes AND stuffing in the smexy romance bites. It's a fast-paced tale, so keep that in mind.

I will say that each page keeps you going, each moment is filled with more than enough drama to move the story along.

Maybe the only big downside was all the Highland talk. I was not prepared for the terms or the long winded dialog moments. That aside, this was a nice change of pace for me. Not the typical PNR and I liked that.

If you're looking for an afternoon read on a lazy Sunday I'm saying grab this one.

Excerpt:
A dreary gray mist settled over the Glen, the distant peaks of the Three Sisters Mountains concealed beneath a deep fog that obscured the landscape. However, the weather never kept us young lads from a bonnie game of shot-put in the field. The chill air felt faint against my flesh, though I was donned only in my féileadh-beag, boots and a linen sark.

My shoulder ached from tossing more than my weight in large stones, yet still I was in the game. I lifted quite a bonnie rock, and ignoring the pull in my shoulder, I drew my arm back. Afore I could toss, however, a far-off eerie cry startled me. The boulder landed with a hard thud in the weeds, barely missing my toes.

“Mhac Na Galla!” I cursed, leaping out of its way.

The call sounded once more.

“Wha’ is that?” I asked, rubbing my shoulder and stretching my arm to take off the ache.

“I dinna ken,” said Ian, who stepped up beside me, listening.

“A wolf?” asked Fergus.

Colin weighed in. “An adventure!”

Writing has always been in Ms. Church's blood. At age 9, she wrote small picture books, taped them together (too young for staples??) and even gave them a publishing house name (Church Books; what else?). To this day, those ‘books’ sit in storage somewhere. In school, Church could be found in the back of the classroom, writing short stories (and still managing A's in English and Art).

Church's first book, House Cat (non-fiction) was published when an editor who rejected it left the publishing house and the new editor chose Church’s manuscript proposal from the previous editor’s pile of 200 rejected manuscript proposals, and saw it to publication (plus a Revised Edition 7 years later, which is still on the shelves). From there, Church received offers from Animal Planet (when it was still about animals) and more book assignments. Her book Indoor Cats won the 2001 Iams Responsible Cat Ownership Award.

After working for years honing her fiction skills, Ms. Church made the decision to write a novella, a brainstorm idea introducing a brand new, conceptual and innovative vampire series in a way never before done. As a no-name in fiction, this was a big, bold move. With no cash, no job (on disability), she put the book out all on her own; writing, editing, cover design, formatting, everything. Though far from perfect, this was a big step and a big dream.

Book One received a Finalist Medal in the 2016 Next Generation Indie Book Awards, and Book Two received the 2017 Finalist for the Next Generation Indie Book Award.

Taste Test
I turned toward Nadya. “Some ground rules for tonight.”

Wariness shadowed her eyes. “All right.”

“No questions about my family. I’m riding to mellow out, not drudge up memories.”

Crossing my arms over my chest, I waited for her answer. Maybe I wouldn’t have to touch Gabe’s bike after all.

“Deal.” She nodded.
“Fine.” I went into my shop and came back with a modular helmet. I hated the damned things, but it would cover her entire head, face, and chin. Safety first. I also brought her a pair of leather gloves and a leather jacket. “Put these on. It’ll be cold at the lake tonight.”

“We’re going up to Tahoe?” She pulled the jacket on and started on the gloves.

“No. Pyramid Lake.”

Tugging on her second glove, she reached for the helmet. “I’ve never heard of it. Is it far?”

“Not really.” Holy shit, she looked amazing in leather. Damn. I ground my teeth together to rein in the unwelcome surge of lust. Remembering she was dying turned out to be the cold shower I needed. “It’s on the Paiute Reservation about forty-five minutes away.”

I tipped the Road King up, knocking the kickstand back while I gauged the weight. I’d only ridden Gabe’s bike once, after I fixed the suspension and replaced the shocks. Never thought I’d be rolling it out again.

Never thought I’d be taking anyone to Pyramid Lake, either.

Nadya followed me out of the garage, putting on her helmet. I lowered the door and got on the black Road King. Sitting on the bike, I stared at the key in the ignition. Gabe’s key.

“Ready?”

Her voice broke my fixation on the keys. I was ready for plenty, but a ride to the lake with Nadya on my brother’s bike wasn’t high on that list. Probably should’ve thought about that before I invited her along.

“Yeah, climb on.” I offered my gloved hand to steady her while she swung her leg over the back. She slid into place, and even through the damned leather jacket I could feel her soft curves against my back. “All set?”

“Yep.” Her voice was clear and closer to my ear than I expected.

I grabbed my black no-nonsense half helmet and snapped it on. She slid her gloved hands around my waist, and my pulse throbbed below my belt. My body had missed the memo that this wasn’t a date.

Death had his eye on this girl, and I’d already had more than my share of loss.

I turned the key and fired up the engine. The Road King roared to life as if it hadn’t been sitting dormant for months. I glanced up toward the stars, toward my brother. The world lost a bright light when he was murdered.

And still no justice. No one in the Pack even mentioned Gabe anymore, let alone hunted his killer.

Not that I asked them to. What if killing Gabe’s murderer didn’t make the pain go away? For now, the thought of justice gave me a flicker of hope. I wasn’t willing to give that up. Moving to Colorado would be a new start. No more ghosts around every curve.

“Hang on.” I put the bike in gear and we roared into the darkness.
