But to their horror, retired SEAL Patrick Jensen and his wife Leah discover that rogue programmers and Russian mobsters are reprogramming the trusted robots to murder their wealthy owners. The crooks then skillfully disguise the lifelike robots as their dead masters, directing the robot mimics to plunder the victims’ estates of billions of dollars.

They have created a new race of networked, “hive-minded” sentient creatures driven by a relentless survival instinct: the Neuromorphs.

WIP it Real Good: Jane S. Morrissey (PNR Quytel Series) + giveaway

OOOOhhhh . . . I should be promoting the second book in my series coming out this week, Circle of Flames, but there are many more in the queue . . . so, here is a sneak preview of book 3 – Circle of the Pack:

The mysterious and elusive Maliha Courtland has captured Ash Montgomery’s attention—and he’s not happy about it. When she disappears, he is the only one who can track her, but what he finds will change his life forever.

Not long after her recovery from a demon’s brutal attack, Maliha finds herself a prisoner. As she fights for her sanity, she uncovers a part of herself she never could have imagined. Ash might be the one person who can keep her safe, but what will he be required to sacrifice in the process?

Photo by Marek Szturc on Unsplash

Her wolf rose on a snarl, resting beneath the surface. In the weeks of watching over her, he’d come to understand and respect the animal. Mali’s wolf remained quiet and watchful, yet oh-so fierce. There was an especially sharp sexual energy when she was close to emerging-like now.

Ash wasn’t quite sure how he knew the animal was also drawn to him in a far less complicated way than the woman. Mali protested his domination; the wolf played with it, and that was damn hard to resist.

Pressing closer, he surprised them both by brushing his lips across hers. Her intoxicating scent of jasmine and pine teased his senses. She pressed both palms to his chest as if to push him away, the contact producing a shock of electricity between them they didn’t have a chance to ground.

Bending time and space to battle evil

Sent back to his homeland to investigate the disappearance of psychic children, Darius Curilian must face the haunting truths of his past. In a remote village, Darius and his team arrive too late to stop a kidnapping but discover a beautiful stranger who could hold the key to finding the missing children.

A self-defined loner, Emma Williams has always been different. Fire breathes in her soul and has set her apart from everyone her whole life. When she stumbles upon a child in danger, she falls into Darius’s unwilling arms and is pulled into the dark world of the Quytel as they fight for their lives.

Excerpt:
For her safety and ours, Darius reminded himself.

“Scotch?” Emma emerged from the kitchen with two tumblers half full of amber liquid. “I don’t know about you, but I could use a drink after the last couple of days.”

She’d changed into a comfortable looking pair of cotton drawstring pants and a spaghetti-strap tank, leaving a tempting part of her flat belly revealed. Padding into the room on bare feet, her dark, silk-red hair brushed her jawline and fell to her shoulders. His cock hardened.

He stood and crossed the narrow room, taking the glass she offered him. “Thank you.”

“Cheers.” She raised her glass and sat on the loveseat, tucking her feet under her. “So what now?”

“I should leave.” He didn’t move, feeling the weight of Sita’s vial in his pocket. He took a long drink of the scotch and savored the smoke on his tongue.

“Will I see you again?” Those lapis-lazuli eyes met his. They reminded him of Egyptian jewels watching, waiting, her pale skin illuminated by the soft, yellow glow filling the room.

“I’d like that.” He chased the implication of his statement with another swallow of scotch burning his throat. Just because he wouldn’t ever see her again didn’t mean he wouldn’t want to. He was dead certain one night with her would do nothing to quench his hunger.

Sheep Movie Review: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) Spoiler-free

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
16 November 2018
Director: David Yates
Writers: J.K. Rowling, J.K. Rowling (based upon characters created by)
Stars: Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Ezra Miller, Carmen Ejogo, Eddie Redmayne, Zoë Kravitz, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler,
Kevin Guthrie, Wolf Roth
Rating: PG-13
Runtime: 2h 14min
Genre: Adventure, Family, Fantasy
The second installment of the "Fantastic Beasts" series set in J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World featuring the adventures of magizoologist Newt Scamander.

Went to see The Crimes of Grindelwald with my 17-year-old daughter. We've both been waiting all year for this! And we weren't disappointed. This movie sheds light on a lot of Potter-verse history. It got a little confusing at some points trying to keep straight the different subplots and who is related to who but by the big reveal—Plot twist, there is a bigger reveal afterward—at the end, you know what's going on.

The special effects are big and fantastical and best suited for the big screen. And the fast-paced action starts in the first few minutes of the movie. Some of the action scenes get a little chaotic and you don't know where to look, but I would expect any fight involving magic to be a wild ride. I don't remember if this was the case in the first movie but there are a lot of close-ups in this one.

Newt Scamander is one of my favorite Potterworld characters. He is so charming and the actor does a great job with him. Jude Law isn't what I envisioned a younger Dumbledor to look like but I like looking at him so I went with it :) The character Nagini (you can guess what kind of creature she is by her name) is a cool character, but there was no point to her. She just followed Credence around. Nothing would have changed storywise if she had been left out. Johnny Depp as Grindelwald was a good choice. They finally let him play a character with no Jack Sparrow quirks. He does crazy well.

Can't give any details about the plot, but there are old and new beasts and lots of Potter-verse magic.

Selah's Manga Mania Reviews: FukuFuku Kitten Tales Vol. 1 by Konami Kanata

by Konami Kanata
October 4, 2016
Publisher: Vertical
Volumes: 2
160 pages

Vignettes in the life of a kitten and her doting owner, wherein even the most mundane things appear exciting and fresh.

As much as I love horror and grit, sometimes I just want something cute, y’know? Something low stakes, something that’s just going to make me happy.

Admittedly, I may also have an addiction to anything cat related. Shut up, it doesn’t count if the entire internet is with me on this.

I grabbed FukuFuku Kitten Tales because cats. I admit it. That’s the only reason. However, it’s super cute and relatable and I may now be tracking down all of the creator’s titles because cats.
The gist is that FukuFuku and her owner look back on FukuFuku’s kitten antics. The owner is a lovely older lady who wants to befriend her kitten, and FukuFuku is terrified. Lots of typical cat antics ensue. It’s obviously meant for younger readers, but I don’t care, because cats.
The good: There’s a lot of variety in terms of kitten adventures: discovering new objects and routines, wandering outside into the neighborhood world, bumping into other animals. The author keeps things simple and charming, and honestly, it works. Plus, the sheer amount of expression on Fukufuku’s face whether she’s ecstatic or affronted or whatever is hilarious. The owner is left to be exasperated or charmed with the reader, and I found myself giggling quite a bit I’m easy to please, what can I say. I can see where this would be great for new readers or for parents and kids to read together. That being said, as an adult I can appreciate its warmth and kindess, and it made for great bedtime reading.
The bad: Nothing, really, as long as you keep in mind this is for kids so it’s fairly low key.

The ick: Nah, nothing.

Movie Review: Overlord (2018)

Overlord (2018)
Nov 9, 2018
Directed By: Julius Avery
Written By: Mark L. Smith, Billy RayCast: Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell, Pilou Asbæk
Rating: R (for strong bloody violence, disturbing images, language, and brief sexual content.)
Genre: Action & AdventureHorrorMystery & Suspense
Runtime: 109 minutes
Studio: Paramount Pictures
With only hours until D-Day, a team of American paratroopers drop into Nazi-occupied France to carry out a mission that's crucial to the invasion's success. Tasked with destroying a radio transmitter atop a fortified church, the desperate soldiers join forces with a young French villager to penetrate the walls and take down the tower. But, in a mysterious Nazi lab beneath the church, the outnumbered G.I.s come face-to-face with enemies unlike any the world has ever seen. From producer J.J. Abrams, Overlord is a thrilling, pulse-pounding action adventure with a twist.

Went to see Overlord with my 17-year-old daughter. If you are looking for a monster horror movie you might be disappointed.  The monsters are truly horrifying and the way they move :shudder: but you really don't get to see them until the last 30 minutes of the movie. It is all about the suspense of what the Nazi's are doing in their lab. The viewer discovers what's going on along with the characters. And the movie has plenty of suspense and does a good job of immersing the viewers in the action. But they go a little overboard with the jump scares.

The movie focuses a lot on the horrors of war and what it might have been like to fight in WWII. The most intense scene is in the very beginning when the soldiers are flying into France and parachute to the ground.

I thought the movie could have been a little shorter and the female character, while badass, really wasn't necessary to the plot. The special effects rocked and if you're squeamish you might want to skip Overlord.

If lots of suspense and a good dose of horror are your thing then you will probably enjoy it. Seeing it on the big screen will help you appreciate the action scenes better.

FEELS LIKE FALLING Excerpt

Peyton looked back at the bar, but Luke was nowhere to be found. Pissed, she continued her trek to the bathrooms anyway and was just about to enter the door marked MNA when someone grabbed her hand and pulled her down a hallway and into some back room which housed a pay phone and a rack full of coats. Like the rest of the tavern, the lighting wasn’t great, but she was able to focus on the man who still gripped her hand and stared at her like he was either going to yell at her or take her against the wall in the most primal of ways.

“What are you doing here?” she asked.

“Who is he?” Luke asked through gritted teeth.

It pissed her off that he completely ignored her question and asked her one instead, one that truly left her perplexed. “Who are you talking about?”

“The man who felt it was okay to touch you here.” He released her hand, but she instantly felt his fingertips at the small of her back.

The heat of his touch made her anger fade, at least for the time being and she said, “He’s a friend of Walt’s.”

“Are you leaving with him?” His eyes darkened and he drew closer. His hand fell away from the small of her back, which thankfully broke the trance her body seemed to be under and her fury was reignited.

Who the hell did he think he was? She didn’t owe him anything. Not even responses to questions that made her hot and furious at the same time.

“Did you follow me here?” she asked. Her voice shook a little, but it was better than submitting to his questions.

“Yes. Now, are you going home with him?”

“Do you have any idea how messed up that is? That you fucking followed me…again?”

His jaw clenched and he looked away. Peyton was prepared to continue, to lay into him and tell him that he was a stalker and could go to hell, but then he glanced back at her and she saw the shame in his eyes. “Yeah…it is fucked up. I’m…fucked up,” he said.

She wasn’t even going to try to pretend that his words didn’t shock her. He knew what he was doing wasn’t normal. That he wasn’t normal. Luke roughly raked a hand through his hair as he paced the small coatroom. He reminded her of a caged animal, one that was anxious and willing to chew through the bars to get free. Shame, worry, pain, fear, confusion. He seemed consumed by each emotion all at once and all she could do was watch him suffer. What happened to him? Why did he look so…broken?

Before she could ask, Luke shook his head, told her he was sorry and left.

by G.P. Ching
March 6, 2018
Pages: 362
WHEN EVIL IS THE ENEMY, POWER IS A GIRL’S BEST FRIEND.

Book 2 of 3 in the Soulkeepers Reborn Trilogy

Now that she’s fully accepted her role, Hope takes up the mantle of Healer to lead a new team of untrained Soulkeepers. Repurposing Revelations to be a training ground won’t be easy, not when the source of its power has been disrupted, and the only woman who knows the island’s secrets is on her deathbed.

Time isn’t on Hope’s side. Lucifer is on the move, injured and unable to return to Hell. He’s found a way to amass power by consuming human souls. Worse, if he grows strong enough to get his hands on an ancient weapon before Hope does, everything the Soulkeepers fought for could be undone.

Sinister plots, unlikely allies, and old temptations plague the new team. Can Hope’s promise lead them to victory? Or will her inexperience doom them all?

Soulkeepers Reborn Trilogy:
Wager's Price
Hope's Promise
Lucifer's Pride

Hope has accepted her role as the Healer and leader of their group of Soulkeepers. She is hoping to adapt Revelations into a training ground for her group and runs into trouble when the power that keeps the island going is disrupted.

Lucifer wants to take over the world but is unable to access his power from Hell. Instead, he finds another way to consume souls, stay off the radar and build his power. Both teams are looking for a weapon that could tip the balance of power their way.

The second book in this trilogy brings about some new friendships and tests some old ones. Ching does a wonderful job of connecting the original Soulkeepers series with this new band of misfits. Each youth brings something to the table that you hope you have within yourself. Look for the final book in the trilogy, Lucifer’s Pride to see how it all ends.

More fantastic tales straight from Robert Ripley himself, told by legendary talents and rising stars alike! 48 pulse-pounding pages of magic and mystery featuring Howard Mackie, The Legend of Stingy Jack, Tony Isabella, The Inexplicable Winchester Mansion, and much, much more! Even when you see it, you won't believe it!

I’ve been a fan of Ripley’s Belive it or Not for years. I’m not kidding, I used to watch episodes then go to school and start talking to my friends about all the weird but true things I’d seen. Of course, my friends were less than interested in anything that didn’t have to do with makeup or boys so I was pretty much on my own there.

Now Ripley’s is in comic form and I couldn’t be more thrilled! Zenescope is bringing some of the most captivating and unforgettable stories to life with writers Howard Mackie, Victoria Rau, Ben Meares, and more. I enjoyed the straight-to-the-good-stuff style of writing in this issue, there wasn’t a lot of droning on and on about things that weren’t relevant to the story and while the stories were kept brief, they were no less interesting. I found myself turning to Google to look up some of these stories just because I wanted more information.

As for the illustrations, they were on point for sure and each artist made sure to emphasize the important parts of each odd but true tale. I had just as much fun looking over the artwork as I did reading the story. Fans of Ripley’s Believe it or Not will enjoy this new take as will people who just like to read strange but true stories. The added benefit is that there are some great illustrations to go with the stories.

The real inspiration for Beauty and the Beast, the cat that predicts death, the miraculous survival and personality change of Phineas Gage, and more are featured in part one of Ripley’s Believe It or Not and I had so much fun with each story! I actually remembered Phineas Gage’s story from a documentary many years ago and it was pretty neat to see an illustrated retelling of his story and they’re pretty accurate too if they photo of the real Phineas is anything to go by.

Deivis Goetten, Daniel Maine, Pat Broderick, and more talented artists create lively illustrations that enhance your experience and fit in perfectly with each writers’ quick, to the point retelling of some of the weirdest, eeriest, and downright fascinating stories ever told. While each story is short, they’re just enough to satisfy a craving for something that seems out of this world. I enjoyed each one like the dork I am.
