Play Fling by author Amber Scott

Cupid, baby, draw back your bow and aim this way....lol

When I found out that Amber Scott's Play Fling was a vamp-free zone, I became a little disappointed. Love those bloodsucking immortals! So, with my hopes not all that high at the start, it ended up being a pleasant surprise to be blown away by how much fun this book actually was.

The story was well written and its pages contained an entertaining variety of characters: a newly divorced single woman, a sexy male bookworm/nerd who is smoking hott, a misguided friend who keeps butting in and making situations worse, meddling in-laws, in-the-closet-lovers, pheromone pumping sex on a plate Cupid (sorry dwhyte, inside joke), and a girl who just cant take NO for an answer. Sounds like fun right? It is.

I'm by no means turning in my vamp card for sexy cupids and FannyPack-wearing nerds, but hubba hubba - they come a close second. Is it just me, or are pocket protectors frelin hot?

No? Just me? Oh well, I think this book is sex-on-a-stick and I'm not ashamed to admit it! Altogether, I really enjoyed this story; it was a delightful change of pace for me. I DEFINITELY recommend that everyone check this one out. Hopefully, Amber Scott will continue this series...

I had mixed feelings towards this book. I love a fun quirky romance as much as the next girl, and I especially love when the romance has unexpected twists. And this book definitely delivered both for me. However, I have to admit to feeling so frustrated with some of the characters that I wanted to hit something, namely Millie the Cupid. lol.

One aspect that I loved was that there was a hot, young guy smitten with a sexy, confident, older woman. If you’re going be single and in your thirties, there’s nothing better than being a smoking hot cougar. Seriously, this is every woman’s dream. And if hooking up with said hottie ups your chances of getting a better score in your class, that's even better. lol.

Amber Scott really makes the reader feel what the characters feel. From the embarrassed, but completely flattering feelings Brooke has when Elliot pursues her, to the butterflies and eager excitement when he realizes Brooke might like him -- the author completely draws you in. It felt like I was living the story with them and I loved that fact throughout the entire story; the passion between those two never failed to deliver.

However, what turned me off about this book was Millie. I know that she is a character in the story that added to the depth and mystery, and saved it from being just another romance novel, but that girl frustrated me to no end. I recognize that my feelings of frustration with her are due to Scott's excellent writing but I'm not sure it was my cup of tea. Throughout the entire book I wanted to yell at Millie to stop being selfish, pull her head out of her ass and see what’s really happening! I also appreciated AJ, who was Millie's only saving grace, but he also left me feeling confused. The chemistry between Millie and AJ was there, but neither of them ever acted upon it and that left me hanging. When I reached the end of the book I was stoked that the predictable happened, because I am one of those girls who loves a Hollywood ending, but I was left thinking, “Huh? What about Millie and AJ?”

After everything was said and done, this book left me unsettled. I couldn’t stop thinking about Millie and AJ, or all the drama that Millie caused, while still feeling happy for Brooke and Elliot. It felt like a hot shower and a relaxing cup of tea was the only way to calm myself from all the emotions running through me after reading this book. I have to give props to Amber Scott for having the ability to create these emotions in me, even when they aren't what I normally look for in a book.

Night Myst, my head hurts...

Night Myst, the first book in the Indigo Court Series by author Yasmine Galehorn was one weird book. Did I drop acid before reading this? *scratches head* Negative. Acid free. So what was the deal with this book....

I felt so confused with this book, the main character Cicely Waters is a witch but not really. She's also Fae, and part owl I guess on her dads side; but wait there's more! She is also able to control and listen to the wind to pick up conversations, do her abilities stop there? No! She also has a ghost friend that only she can hear. Oh yeah, annnd she can see other peoples ghosts. I mean of course. duh. The writer just expects the reader to pick all this up. Not much explanation. Just this is how it is and you gotta deal with it. Ummm yeah, no thanks.

So on to the vamps in this story; brutal human hating i-just-gonna-use-you-for-blood then toss you in the gutter, some like to have incest with siblings (gross!), some are mutant half-fae half-vamp and all just want to have lots and lots of sex. In a crowed club or an office its all good to them. Party over here! lol I love me some vamps, hott and steamy sex scenes (brown chicken brown cow) but these men were just degrading to women and sick in the head. NO redeming qualities. Someone call Dr. Phil!

Grieve, Cicely's love interest is the only decent guy in the book. Kudos. He's under a spell from an evil queen who wants to destroy and conquer, he has to continually fight against his darker urges. Once a good guy now turned bad. Intriguing. Cicely and Grieve are now forced to different sides in a brutal war, their love is the best thing about the story. :)

The book moves along pretty quickly and brushes over interesting parts to slow down at ones that were boring. Overall this book was a nightmare to read, not my cup of tea, too much going on and not enough info. Galehorn is a NYT Bestselling author so I'm sure she knows how to write a good story, just not this one.

Book is a mix of: Lord of the Rings, The Last Airbender, Harry Potter, Charmed, Legends of The Guardian: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, Underworld...maybe you get the idea at this point. Throw all these in the wash and paste them on pages. A mess of colliding worlds.

City Island, lol funny

City Island, written and directed by Raymond De Felitta is available on dvd now. Wonderfully acted by Andy Garcia, Julianna Margulies, Steven (yummy cakes) Strait, Ezra Miller and Emily Mortimer this film had me hooked from the start, completely won me over. :)

Plot Summary:

Meet the Rizzos, a family that might get along a lot better if only they could tell each other the truth. Dad Vince is the worst offender. But since the prison guard won't even admit that poker night is in fact acting class, how's he ever going to explain about his illegitimate son? His daughter works as a stripper when she's supposed to be in college, while young Vinnie Jr has a secret sexual fetish that involves a 24-hour webcam and the family's 300-pound neighbor. Vince's wife Joyce is the family's rock, but it's been a year since she enjoyed intimacy with her husband, and it's no surprise she thinks poker night spells A-F-F-A-I-R. When former prisoner Tony enters the Rizzos' lives, Joyce begins to suspect that the handsome young Tony isn't who Vince says he is. City Island is a funny, touching and smart family tale about the secrets of the past catching up with the lies of the present, and accepting that nobody's perfect - least of all your loved ones.

Who doesn't like Andy Garcia? Not me thats for sure. *makes goo goo love eyes* Mr. Garcia delivers yet another awesome performance, you completely fall for his character. Oh the webs this family weaves. You know ALL their secrets are going to come crashing down in the end; predictable yet fantastic to watch the epic meltdown.

I laughed so hard every time the young son argued with his family, little deja vu reminding me of my own braty-yet-loveable-brother. Hugs brother man. Movie is not a chick flick but a life movie for all, humor that reaches young and old any gender will enjoy this film. Life lessons abound. ;)

Don't miss this one. Redbox for $1 you have no excuses folks! lol

Demon From the Dark, Oh Happy Day!

Demon From the Dark, the next installment in The Immortals After Dark Series by author Kresley Cole hit bookstores this week. If you don't know how much I enjoy this author you can find my previous reviews on past books below. :)

Cole is an amazing story teller, period. She creates a world so vivid and entertaining it leaves you wanting more and fast! Action, romance, great dialog, exciting adventures, funny humor and just all around entertainment. What more could a girl ask for?

Plot to this book as follows:

City girl Carrow is a free spirited gal who loves to party like a rockstar, enjoys a wicked time with her girls causing mayhem. She meets -hottie with a naughty body- cavemen (literally) Malkom who's from another world, brute beast with a few trust issues. Ok, understatement of the year! He trusts no one, but in his defense he definitely has his reasons. Poor guy. :( Can two so different fall in love? Can he learn to trust?

The beginning of this book had a "me Tarzan - you Jane" feel going on, and yeah that story has been done a time or two before but NEVER like this. Book gives you a few updates on characters from previous stories including some new ones that are on the way; more build up! Ugh. Why cant the books come out weeks apart instead of months....*crying like a baby*

I personally would have enjoyed a little more Nix, but thats because she is one of my favorite characters. Regin's plot thickens a bit more, another classic line from her that unfortunately I can't put here due to it's... ummmm semi-graphic nature. lol pg. 291 ;)

A funny excerpt from the book:

"Is it the military?"

Nix narrowed her eyes at Mari. "Define military."

"You know, solider, army, et cetera."

Nix squinted again. "Define army."

"At least tell me if they're human!"

"Define- "

"Shut it, Nix!"

This book is a must read! :)

If you haven't read this book check out Ambers review below and give it a go, and for all those who have....the laughter pains will subside after about 5 min or so. Give or take. Depending on your time zone and elevation above sea level. ;)

The Switch

The Switch, directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck; while the story of a sperm donor has been done before (The Backup Plan) it is presented more from a male's perspective, predictable story plot but not awful.

Starring Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston, Jeff (my gf Ceci's man) Goldblum, Juliette Lewis and the adorable child actor Thomas Robinson. Yes, it's just like Aniston to make yet another film in the romantic comedy genre, safe and predictable, but that's apparently what she likes.

Bateman was fantastic in this film; why don't we see him in more movies? Witty and clever. He's an incredible actor and just phenomenal to watch - leaves me wanting more. :) And no, bff Rose, I am not trying to steal your man; I know you've staked your claim! lol Remove the claws please....

Thomas Robinson is the cutest child actor I have seen on screen in a long while, maybe since a young Dakota in I Am Sam. He carried a big weight on his little shoulders, but won me over with his genuine emotional performance. If you don't leave the theater re-thinking picture frames then you're just nutts! :P

Some funny/gross scenes involving...umm...well bugs. hahaha You just have to see it to know what I'm talking about. Endearing none the less.

Chains of Ice, my feet feel a little numb...

Chains of Ice, the latest installment in The Chosen Ones series by author Christina Dodd was just an average, nothing all that special, paranormal book. Starts out fairly well but takes a dive midway through and continues until the end.

Plot:

For one magic summer, Genny Valente escapes to spend time as a wildlife observer in the untamed mountains. Little does she know that a beast more fearsome than any beast lurks in the forest…a man, one of the Chosen Ones, betrayed by his gift and tormented by his memories. John Powell has fled his fate and his duty, yet in Genny he sees his one chance for redemption. He will stalk her, kidnap her, love her as only a savage can. But when a new betrayal threatens, John must call on the powers he swore he’d never use again. Then only Genny’s love can save him…if she dares tame the one man she can’t live without…

I know what some may be thinking at this point, sounds like a good plot right? Not. First off I'm an animal lover, all kinds all sizes, but over and over the story goes on and on about a rare lynx. Genny wants to see the cat; scientists travel from all over the world to see it and MUST get photos of it....so, let's all follow it, oh look KITTENS...so cute, let's watch it play, shush it's sleeping, oh its walking, now it's running! O-M-G! I DONT CARE! Gee whiz what the heck is this book?! lol

Aside from the cat, the main male character John starts out pretty hott but loses all said hotness as the story evolves. Bummer, he was doing so well. :( Book has boring magic, with predictable plot twists and a ho-hum-i no-longer-care-at-this-point-ending. I know Dodd is a NYT best selling author, and this is the first book of hers I've read; obviously her other works have been good - but this one didn't do it for me.

Better than garbage but not good enough for the shelf, heading for my book donation box.

Vampires Suck, well the movie sucked more and not in a good way

Vampires Suck, written and directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer the same guys who have written other spoof movies like the Disaster Movies and Epic Movie. This film had tons of potential but sadly missed the mark by miles.

With so much going on in the world that is Twilight, this film could have done some great comedy but it was such a sad disappointment it almost HURTS me to write this review. :(

I am a big fan of Twilight and like all fans I can enjoy the parodies that come along with it, but anyone can go on YouTube and find spoofs that will blow this one out of the water!

I get it, Twilight is a hott ticket item right now and who wouldn't want to cash in on that and make a buck. (these cheesy filmmakers for sure) Come on guys, lets give something more then a few laughs that cost an arm and a leg at the box office. It was only an 80 min run time but it felt like 3 hours. So sad that the writers/directors didn't take the time to create quality.

A few positive's can be taken from the film: Segways are awesome forms of transportation, always travel with a cactus, never listen to your dads new girlfriend and never try to be Taylor Swift! ;) The gem of this film was actress Jenn Proske who plays this movies version on Isabella Swan, she was a dead-on with her Bella mannerisms. Hair behind the ear tucks, lip bitting, eye fluttering, word fumbling etc. She rocked it and is the ONLY reason I am even giving this movie 2 sheep.

Miss this one and if you insist on wasting your time, rent the dvd.

And of course Team Edward all the way! lol

A Wild Light, yes indeed!

A Wild Light, the latest installment in the Hunter Kiss series by author Marjorie M. Liu hit bookstores this month. Liu writes these books in a very almost cold no-nonsense way, and for me it works on all levels, this series delivers with each new installment. :) More! More! I need more of my Precious!

The story follows Heroine Maxine Kiss, a hunter of demons, she's a take no crap from anyone type of gal. *Except maybe from her bo Grant...ahh Grant. Has some demon boys to back her up and very cool heavy metal pieces to finish the job. Its a kill fast or be killed even faster type of world she lives in, any hesitation could forfeit her life, and as she is the last of her line the world would be devoured by the scariest monsters one could imagine. Yeah, its THAT intense.

As with all great stories, sometimes things aren't always what they seem, Maxine is coming to wonder about what really makes a person/demon good or evil. The grays? Bigger and bigger. Dark powers can they actually be used for good? I wouldn't want to try thats for sure. lol

I know coming from yours truly its hard to imagine I read -and love- a series about zombies, Blood Mama's, possession, and creepy crawly monsters that go bump in the night or day. But I do, I LOVE this series and highly recommend it to all. :)

Liu not only creates this stunning series but also writes comic books for Marvel, and we are all about Marvel here. Logan! She is part Sci-Fi part Comic with a whopping scoop of paranormal goodness.

Jump on this one and enjoy the ride. :)

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World directed by Edgar Wright and based on the graphic novel written by Bryan Lee O'Malley hit theaters with a visually spellbinding bang! Its nerd meets video game in a battle of the bands bollywood number with martial arts that would make a ninja envious.

This fun action-comedy stars Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin and Anna (Jessica from Twilight!) Kendrick. These young Hollywood actors may not have been the "best" this movie could have found, but they did a decent acting job making the movie work overall. :)

Plot Summary:

Scott Pilgrim's life is so awesome. He's 23 years old, in a rock band, "between jobs," and dating a cute high school girl. Everything's fantastic until a seriously mind-blowing, dangerously fashionable, roller blading delivery girl named Ramona Flowers starts cruising through his dreams and sailing by him at parties. But the path to Ms. Flowers isn't covered in rose petals. Ramona's seven evil exes stand between Scott and true happiness. Can Scott defeat all seven of the bad guys and get the girl without turning his precious little life upside-down, before the game is over?

The film definitely appeals to a certain demographic, not the mass public, but that set audience will adore this movie. I could easily see this one becoming a cult classic, watch out DVD release I have a feeling this film will be beloved for years to come. Opening 1980's video game music was a riot and sets the pace of whats to come in the film, had me smiling within the first 30 seconds. Must find that ringtone!

I do have to point out, for me, the film was a tad too long. A good 15 minutes could have easily been cut from the storyline. Felt a little forced in parts, but does make up for it in many other ways. I think we would all like to defeat our arch nemesis and collect some coins. :) And watch out vegans, the police will come for you should you choose to slip up! Be warned, the Punisher awaits......lol

Best part of seeing this film was going with 2 of my good friends who just so happen to be geeks, therefor appreciating the various aspects in this movie. :)

Step Up 3D

Step Up 3D, directed by Jon Chu may be one of the most predictable plot's with unmemorable acting but its visually a fun film to watch with some pretty fantastic dancing.

The film stars a host of relativity unknown actors, that we may or may not ever see again unless in a film related to this genre. If your a fan of SYTYCD (thats, So You Think You Can Dance for all you not in the know) as Amber and I are, you'll notice a few familiar all-stars like Twitch, Legacy and Josh.

Aside from the eye candy on screen and amazing dance battles the story plot fell so short that it was almost agonizing to watch. Snooze. If they could have just danced throughout the whole thing, I think that would have been far better then the attempt at a script. Yawn.

The 3D did amazingly, add to this film, the battles were definitely more in your face making you feel as though you were watching it live in the flesh. Good use of 3D for once. :)

Its a perky fun movie that you end up liking but aren't sure you want to tell other people out loud. So one questions to all of you: Are we human? Or are we dancers? lol

The Expendables Movie, old guys kicking butt!

The Expendables, directed by Sylvester Stallone, stars Jet Li, Jason Statham, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Dolph (still my man) Lundgren, Charisma Carpenter (Cordi from Angel woot woot!), Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke and the man himself Sly Stallone! Grab your depends and arthritis cream, people, and watch some of our 80's heroes rock the big screen.

Plot:

An all-star cast of action-movie icons headline Sylvester Stallone's explosive action thriller about a group of hard-nosed mercenaries who are double-crossed during a treacherous mission. When their mission is compromised, Barney and Christmas are forced to flee, leaving Sandra behind to face almost certain death. But Barney isn't the kind of soldier to abandon a mission, or a hostage, and now in order to get the job done he'll need the help of his old crew.

I am lucky enough to live in the Bay Area where we have access to D-Box seating, one of our many perks in Nor Cal. ;) If you don't know about D-Box let me tell you it's the most entertaining way to watch action movies. The specialized seats have full range of motion and vibration, so when a car crashes on screen your seat gets slammed. Gun fights take on a whole new meaning, and boats...well if you get seasick easy you may not want to do D-Box! It's a fantastic update and quickly becoming my new movie watching addiction.

Now to the movie review itself, if you can't tell by the trailers this movie is a hard-hitting action flick with tons of explosives, blood and guts, impossible stunts, car chases, UFC and WWE moves, beautiful women in distress, and bad a** old dudes rockin' Harley's. Basically it's a testosterone circus gone wild and I loved it! Anyone need a prostate check?

The plot itself is pretty predictable, but the actors have a lot of fun with their characters and that comes across to the audience. Plenty of good old fashion throwing knives always come in handy when traveling to South America, well in my experience anyway. :) The movie won't win any Oscars, but it will make you laugh, and if you're like me and just enjoy seeing all these great action heroes in one movie it will make it all worthwhile.

On a side note, I still don't know the exact details of why Jean Claude Van Damme was not in this movie but I will say he was missed. I would have liked to see the original Universal Soldiers together kickin' butt! Oh well. My only hope is that you're not stuck in a showing that has a woman in the audience screaming during every action scene, it was annoying. Blah!

Grab some friends and go see this one. :)

The Other Guys, pimps don't cry!

The Other Guys directed by Adam McKay and staring Will Ferrell, Mark (Veronica's Man) Wahlberg, Michael Keaton, Samuel Jackson, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Eva Mendes hit theaters this weekend. If your a fan of Ferrell your going to love this movie, if your not....well you may want to wait for the dvd. Am I a fan? Wait and see..

Plot Summary:

NYPD Detectives Christopher Danson and P.K. Highsmith (Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson) are the baddest and most beloved cops in New York City. They don't get tattoos - other men get tattoos of them. Two desks over and one back, sit Detectives Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) and Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg). You've seen them in the background of photos of Danson and Highsmith, out of focus and eyes closed. They're not heroes - they're "the Other Guys." But every cop has his or her day and soon Gamble and Hoitz stumble into a seemingly innocuous case no other detective wants to touch that could turn into New York City's biggest crime. It's the opportunity of their lives, but do these guys have the right stuff?

A couple really funny lines in this movie, and I hate to give away details to those of you who have not see this movie yet but alas I CAN NOT resist!

*Spoiler Alert skip this part if you don't want to know. Anyone who knows me can tell you my favorite baseball team, and the Yankees, (boooo you suck) are NOT one of them. A certain player gets shot in the leg in this film, (Derek Jeter) and in the background you hear someone say "You should have shot ARod!" lol I had to wipe the tears from my eyes I tell ya! A movie after my own heart. :)

Coming a close second would be this nugget: Cop 1 "Just arrived at the crime scene lol" Cop 2 "Nice Tweet". At this point Coke is practically shooting out of my nose! Thank the powers that be for an empty matinee showing.

Now the overall plot of the movie was not good, and completely predictable 2 minutes in. Dragging story line in places made the movie feel longer then it was. Quite a few jokes were over done, come on kicking a dead horse is never a good thing. And frankly its just mean! I got it the first time, but doing it a second and third just starts to irritate me. Over kill!

Michael Keaton was incredible, he makes me want to run out to Bed Bath and Beyond and grab some bath mats! Batman doing jokes? Get out! But it worked, he was funny and looking great. :)

I will say that this was the best movie I have seen Will Ferrell in since Old School, I liked him on SNL and I can take him in doses but for the most part thats it. Its summer, so if your bored and want to kick back and catch a so-so comedy then grab your gator boots (minus the Gucci suit) and check this one out.

Getting a middle of the road rating from me, not great but not horrible. Sorry Rose. :)

Moning gives everything a reader could ask for, then throws an extra helping on top. Can you pass the bowl of Unseelie stew please. I have a few favorite authors (Frost, Ward, Cole, Showalter, Sparks to name a few) and she has definitely been placed at the top! I couldn't put these books down, the story was exciting and delicious at the same time.

Can a Barbie girl step it up (3, hahaha) when danger lurks around every corner and numerous people are out to killer her? If the worlds fate rested on your shoulders could you rise to the occasion? Fight or flight? Love or lust, does it matter? With Jericho... heck no! And where is my MacHalo? )

I cant wait for the final installment to come out, but wait I will cause its not due to hit the stores until Jan 2011. This book is a must read and I am proud to give it my first ever 5 sheep rating!

Spider's Bite- blah. uhhhh. sigh.

Total disappointment. This book is the first in a series called Elemental Assassins. That alone is what drew me in. I love books about women who are hot, kick ass, and just got it goin on. The main character, Gin, has two out of the three. She's good looking and I can't deny the fact that she's good at killing people. But I don't know what else I can say that's good about her.
This book was sssooo ssslllooowww. It didn't really pick up until the middle, last third of the book. And when I say 'picked up' I'm being generous. It could have been a great book. The storyline was there, but the execution of it just sucked. Majorly. I'm usually pretty lenient when it comes to books. It doesn't take much to entertain me and I'm not nearly as picky as some people **coughkatiecough**, but even I can't pretend that this book was anything but awful.

The story is about a client who double crosses Gin aka The Spider, who btw is a famous assassin feared by everyone, and how she discovers who the client is, the reasoning behind the double cross and the revenge for killing her handler. Sounds good right? I mean how can you mess this up? Well Jennifer Estep found the way to do it. She bores you to death with details that don't mean anything, action scenes that are way too lacking in everything, and a love connection that just leaves you thinking 'what?'. The only thing that sparked my interest was the time when Gin and the detective she's working with give in to their attraction, and I use that term loosely since you really aren't aware of this attraction throughout the story. But even that left me feeling disappointed since it was a quickie in a janitor's closet. Seriously? If you can't give me action than give me some love! (Sigh....)

All in all this book was a major letdown. From the sloppy and dismal writing to the lack of connection you feel with the characters all I can say is save your money. If you really want to read it check it out at the library. And I don't know that I would waste one of my book rentals on it, you might want to save it for the dictionary. At least that would be informative.

Touched by an Alien- Pick me! Pick me!

OMG I loved this book! I've read it twice now, yes I'm one of those people who reads books twice, or 3,4,5... lol, and it was just as good as I remembered! This is the debut novel of Gini Koch and it rocked. She combined hot men, and not just men but ALIENS!, witty humor, fast action and all the romance a girl could want with a dash of the unexpected. It was the perfect combination for me. I know vampires have been the big thing lately, but if all the alien books that are coming out, and there are quite a few that I've noticed on shelves lately, are as good as this one all I can say is "Watch out VAMPS!"
The heroine of this story, Katherine "Kitty" Katt is my new role model. I mean it. She's smart, quick with comebacks, sexy, full of sarcasm, tough and she thinks outside of the the box. I loved her! It all starts out on the front steps of the court house when a parasite (bad alien) possesses a man and all hell breaks loose.
Now enters the heros, yes plural, of the story. Two cousins who are both hotter than hot. Their work uniforms are Armani suits, I mean seriously! Yum! :) Tall, good looking ( a mild understatement) and smart to boot, Jeff Martini and Christopher White are the men of my dreams! Right away the chemistry and witty banter between Martini and Kitty just suck you in and it keeps heating up throughout the entire novel. Throw in a gay,former male model/turned agent, parents who aren't exactly what you thought, some religious persecution, digs at pop culture (can anyone say Will Smith?) and a horde of aliens who are all supermodel worthy and this story has it all.
With the action, both in the field and in the bedroom, the clever storyline, the laugh out loud moments and the kick*** characters this book is a winner. All I can say is Thank Heavens for a sequel! Coming December 2010 :)
I'm giving 4 sheep. If I could do halves I would. So just imagine that half of the fifth sheep is filled in! lol

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the first book in the Millennium Trilogy by Swedish author Stieg Larsson, movie adaptation is directed Niels Arden Oplev. Now, my review is based on the just movie as I have yet to read the book. But as my Mom has just wrapped the book up I know its going to be great!

Plot Summary:

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, ruthless computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from almost forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vanger's are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

The trilogy was filmed all at once in Sweden, so note to all it WILL have subtitles. If your normally put off by subs, like me, fear not you get over it very quickly due to the compelling nature of the story. There are no big-name-hollywood-actors in this film and I liked that, a lot. It felt raw and real, and was acted to perfection by everyone.

Has some strong sexual content that may not be comfortable for some people, so I recommend to those of you who like happy light heart comedies, think twice about this one. That being said, the film is extremely engaging and comes highly recommended. Its out of theaters now but can be found wherever you rent movies.

Deaths Excellent Vacation anthology, yea more Cat and Bones!

One for the Money a short story from author Jeanine Frost is now available across the nation! Its short (about 30 pages) and sweet but a must read.

The story picks up after Destined for An Early Grave and follows Cat and Bones, cutting their vacation short to do a side job for a family member. Visits some previous locations and touches base with a certain character who recently went through some MAJOR life changing events. ;) wink wink Amber knows!

Can I just say we should all find our own local "Bite" to relax at and just enjoy an evening of undead fun with friends and family. :)

Other authors contributing with additional short stories are Charlaine Harris, Katie MacAlister, Lilith Saintcrow, and Jeff Abbott to name a few. So you do get a chance to explore the paranormal world a little more and possible find a few new authors you might enjoy. Me? Oh no, my reading list is long enough thank you very much.

The book is only available at this time in hard cover and I paid $24.99 so if your thrifty like me look for online coupons or just let me know and you can read my copy.
