Getting 4 and 1/2 Sheep

Fallout season one on Amazon Prime is based on the video game. I never played the game and knew just about nothing, so went in just with the shows version of what this world was like

"In a future, post-apocalyptic Los Angeles brought about by nuclear decimation, citizens must live in underground bunkers to protect themselves from radiation, mutants and bandits."

Turns out, that only the richest can buy into a bunker. Everyone else either dies, becomes a mutant of sorts or joins up with waring group. It's a dog eat dog world, like literally you are going to eat someone's butt or their dog, cat, etc. Everyone is out to get each other, living top side is a free for all and adapting or death is the order of the day.

It takes a while to figure out what's going on and who can be trusted. Seems like no one can. There's not much description of what each faction is about, you kind of have to just keep watching and put the pieces in place as they come about. But by the end of the last episode, I still felt like a lot was missing.

However, you do get to understand that the major money players and big corporations are the ones pulling the strings. It's scary to even dream up that the very people making these vaults are the same ones that want to drop the bombs. Wipe the slate and start over a fresh new world, in their version. Pretty crazy and sadly could be VERY true. Hopefully not, but you never know.

Lots of fun cameos from random actors, that was a laugh to see someone famous in just one episode. Overall, enjoyed this one and certainly want to watch season 2. Seems the foundation is laid and now Lucy sets off with the ghoul to find some answers.

Certainly worth a watch, just make sure you have a strong stomach for some parts!

I agree with Katie! Fallout is worth a watch. I'd also knew nothing about the game it is based on, but it is dark comedy at its best. It will have you laughing and saying "Ew, gross!" at the same time. But it also has some dramatic moments.

Outer Ranger Season 2 on Amazon Prime stars Josh Brolin, Lili Taylor, Imogen Poots, Lewis Pullman and Tamara Podemski. I had a free month of Prime shipping so I figured, what the heck I'll try this. Holy Moly. What a crazy show!

Season 1 leaves us with so many questions, what is this hole? What is the purpose and why is it just popping up? There's so much to unpack. We know Josh Brolin who plays Royal Abbot is somehow a key of sorts to this whole sci fi phenomena, but we don't know much else.

We watch Sheriff Joy who got trapped in the past and thankfully she gets back to her family. Although so mush time has passed on her end. My girl is CHANGED. To her core. She's seen some things man and I can not blame her for coming back with all kinds of PTSD. Of course she wants to talk it out with Royal, but he's trying to save his family and possibly the world from this dang-gum hole!

All the bodies and debris they keep throwing in that thing, have to be just piled up some place in time. Some poor souls in another time are just seeing bodies fall from the sky. No wonder we believe in Alien abductions! But I digress, this town has so much going on it's hard to keep track.

Plus, this show feeds you just a drop at a time. I feel like so many cards are being held back, maybe more unseen players are coming up. I have no idea and often find myself almost frustrated to watch another episode. Yet, I do. The show is very compelling, I just wish they would explain more. My god, talk Royal! Use your words! He's so closed lipped, it's like pulling teeth with a fork! You're killing me dude.

I have no idea why Amy/Autumn is so being so weird, why she thinks that she's almost like a god. But she's got some real mental health issues and hopefully more will come in season 3. Is she really going to be bad? I'm not so sure, but it's very hard to tell.

The story takes place over two timelines. The first of which involves 14 year old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker moving to New Raccoon City. They come to realise that their father may be concealing dark secrets that could destroy the world. The second timeline takes place over a decade in the future, where only 15 million humans remain, with over 6 billion animals and people being infected with the T-virus. It follows Jade, now thirty, in her efforts to survive in this world.

A lot of negative things are being said about the new Resident Evil series from Netflix, and most of that hate is from the die-hard video game and movie franchise fans. So if you're not one of those people but love action/horror/sci-fi shows, you will probably love this. I did!

I never played the games (not a gamer), but I've seen all the movies and love me some Alice (I always wanted to cosplay her). The new TV series is more of a spin-off series with roots in the movies/games, but they created something different. I don't think the die-hard are the target audience.

The show does skip between two timelines throughout all eight episodes, and at first, they don't mesh well because you don't know the whole story yet, but the two start to run parallel the closer you get to episode eight. I think it is a fun piece of storytelling. Not like Oscar-winning, but for a sci-fi series, I was intrigued, and there is plenty of suspense. Lots of twists to keep it interesting. You have to overlook some things, like why didn't they just shoot them?! But that's the case in a lot of action scenes, lol.

My husband and I loved it and will be waiting for season two. Great sci-fi monster fun! Give it a shot.

A Christmas vacation turns into a nightmare for a teenager and her family when they discover an ancient menace that stalks their island getaway.

A mother and father decided that for Christmas this year they would take their kids on a family vacation by renting a house on an island. The problem is, this island has an electrified metal fence around some forest with a locked gate that keeps something deadly inside. This was done by the inhabitants of the island who only opened it occasionally put a cow inside as a sacrifice.

It was obvious to me that this was folklore horror. There is a sacrifice and a family that usually goes their own way for Christmas decides to come to the island instead. I still couldn’t understand why the islanders had put a stop to this, or even make sure no outsider comes to their island. But it was a plot hole to me. 

Anyway, the episodes went fast—only six, and there was a lot of potential to really make this scary, but it wasn’t. No explanation for the elves or why the islanders keep sacrificing cattle to keep the peace of the land. I think it could have been better with more episodes and a backstory to explain all of this. This should be on Santa’s naughty list for not delivering a good present for binge-watchers.

If you want to watch folklore horror, try Midsomner, The Wicker Man (the 1973 one!), The Witch, The Ritual (which I saw on Netflix before and it is set in a Swedish forest), and much more. For Christmas horror, try Krampus, Gremlins, Black Christmas (1974), and Rare Exports, a Christmas Story. Plus there are more out there.

After an unexpected visit from their dark lord and leader, the vampires are reminded of what they were initially tasked with upon their arrival in New York City over a century ago -- total and complete domination of the New World. What We Do in the Shadows is an American comedy horror series based on the original movie boasting the same name. The tv series is a true velvet pouched, red ruby rendition of decadent deliciousness. Putting a new twist on the vampires, in general, is a high stakes game for sure, then it is my pleasure to say that WWDITS gives us, subpar humans, a refreshing mockumentary glimpse into the window of a clutch of old-world vampires who are navigating the challenges of today's over-complicated pc era. 

Laszlow, Nadja, Colin, and Nandor the Relentless are a superiorly arrogant and bumbling ignorant foursome of dark sarcasm, woven within a web of subtle hilarity that surely will entrap even the snobbiest of sparkly vampire fans. 

Tasked with total world domination, a feast of worth while shenanigans ensue. If biting into clots, er...I mean biting into plots of hosting unsuccessful vampire orgies, ill attempts at dominating the world through stuffy city council meetings, luring naive virginal cosplay geeks for party snacks or pruning a luscious garden topiary of vagina-shaped emerald bushes seems like your flash of flavorful tomfoolery, check out What We Do In The Shadows.

TV Show Review: Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: A Midwinters Tale

Tis the season for burning the Yule log, holding seances, and holiday specials! That's how they do it in Greendale, anyway.

Given the last time we saw a Christmasy Sabrina she was dressed as Santa to rescue Salem from an over-enthusiastic kid (this may have involved a spatula and a Neil Diamond box set), I was curious to see what Chilling Adventures would bring to the holiday table.

Set after the first season, I think this could somewhat function on its own, though if someone is completely new to this version it may not be best to start here since it's more of an extension of season one vs a standalone special. Sabrina is feeling the separation from Harvey (and her self-inflicted separation from her friends), as well as missing her mother. Zelda is occupied with a new baby and the warning to keep the Yule log burning. Miss Wardwell is wondering why she's not been called back to the pit. Suzie is working as an elf, and the others are somewhat on the periphery of those plots.

That's really one of the things I noticed. I'm used to holiday specials where the stakes are low, it's all about the feels, and everyone is pretty much all there together. Not so here, and it makes it more in line with the show. It's almost refreshing.

The Yule log goes out during an ill-timed seance in an attempt to connect Sabrina to her mom to find out why she's in Limbo. Chaos ensues.

The good: Dark Christmas is hard to do well without coming off as cartoony or bitter. For me, the decision to lean into folklore hits all the right buttons. I'll even ease up on nitpicking for how they interpret some of it, because it's so refreshing to see the Yule Lads and Gryla used for once. Seriously, I gasped and cheered. There are a few other fun reveals that are delightfully creepy, but I'll let you find those on your own.

Like everything else, Sabrina tries to help Harvey, tries to help her mother, and it ends up blowing up in her face. Add Suzie's plot to it, and the result is cozy, shadowy madness that never gets too goofy or cynical. I feel for Sabrina, I get her frustration as all the threads of her life feel like they're unravelling. I kinda want to smack Harvey upside the head, but I like that the show has chosen to let their relationship play out, bumps and all, and not use the mind wipe mcguffin the 90s version repeatedly used. This is far more interesting.

We also get to see how Susie and Rosalind deal with Sabrina's powers and lifestyle, which is something that was never really explored in depth before. I dig it.

All of the characters go through a bit of a ride, and I feel like this probably sets things up for season 2. This also increases the universe in that it shows creatures existing in or near Greendale that have nothing to do per say with the local covens.

The bad: My only real gripe is that some things move a little fast, making some (like the Weird Sisters) feel a little out of character. I'm not totally sure if this is a pacing thing or character progression. It works for the episode but does feel a little odd.

The ick: Same as the rest of the series. You need to keep a sense of humor with the satany bits, and if seeing the franchise go darker doesn't appeal, this won't change your mind. There was nothing here that put things over the top for me, and no huge gore in this ep, so it is a decent look at the show without it being too crazy pants, if those are deal breakers for anyone.

Overall, this adds to the series and enhances what we've already seen. It gives a nice Yuletide glow without being overly sweet. It's nice to have a holiday show where things happen and impact the overall season, so hopefully this won't be a one-off thing. There's also a definite holiday season feel - this isn't an attempt to make fun of traditions, but to expand them. There are plenty of fun little moments and the final scene had me snickering. If you're into the show, you definitely need to see this episode. Even if you aren't, it's a fun romp with a great story amd solid performances from the cast. A fun watch for something a little bit different this season.

Sheep Movie Review: Star Trek Beyond

A surprise attack in outer space forces the Enterprise to crash-land on a mysterious world. The assault came from Krall (Idris Elba), a lizard-like dictator who derives his energy by sucking the life out of his victims. Krall needs an ancient and valuable artifact that's aboard the badly damaged starship. Left stranded in a rugged wilderness, Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto) and the rest of the crew must now battle a deadly alien race while trying to find a way off their hostile planet.

It has been 966 days (an Easter egg for Star Trek fans-can you guess?) since Kirk has led the crew of the USS Enterprise on its five-year mission. He is questioning why he is doing it and having reached his birthday—a year younger than the age his father died, after docking at a massive space station—the Yorktown—he even approaches a superior over him about maybe giving Spock command of the ship. Instead, she asks him take an alien woman who has a stranded ship in a nebula that no other help can reach. Once through the nebula and at a Class M planet, they are attacked by an overwhelming enemy in what's easily the movie's most visually dazzling sequence. The crew, who has not died, escape in pods and the saucer crashes down on the planet. There, the scattered crew must try to thwart the genocidal aims of Krall.

The Star Trek I knew and loved is back, at least about ninety per cent. Simon Pegg (Scotty), with Doug Jung, wrote the screen play. Yes, there are ticks here and there, and still the action we come to expect from action oriented films these days, instead of a cerebral Star Trek old time fans love, but I did enjoy the movie. Director Justin Lin does a good job managing the action. Kirk is no longer that irresponsible fool, but a serious, soul searching man, who wonders if he should even do his star trek. Spock and McCoy are the only characters from the first two movies I liked, as the actors acted like the way DeForest Kelley and Leonard Nimoy had brought heir characters to life. The crew began to feel like family, though the action doesn’t give enough room or time to expand on this aspect. As for the alien bad guy, he is nasty, but not bone chilling evil enough. I like that they used a new bad guy and not someone from before, but he was more cookie cutter warrior type with a grudge.

After the disappointment of Independence Day: Resurgence, at least this a movie I can admit I would go watch again. Is this Star Trek on the level of Trek’s best episodes, “City on the Edge of Forever” or the film, Wrath of Khan, or others like that? Not completely, but it does satisfy.

Finally, I got to watch Jessica Jones. I haven't read the Marvel comic but I was sold on the trailer. Dark, gripping and raw...pretty much sums it up. I loved it! I'm a fan of dark fantasy and this certainly is. The series starts out with Jessica in a really bad place emotionally. She is being stalked by a mind controller who takes stalking to a whole new level. She decides to fight back but nothing but pain and death result.

I think Krysten Ritter was a great choice for Jessica Jones; I'm happy with all the casting choices. Have you seen Mike Colter (Luke Cage)? Looking forward to his Netflix series coming this year! This show isn't for the light of heart. It is violent (like garden shears through the face violent). It deals with physical and emotional rape, drug abuse, PTSD and grief. Jessica's best friend, Pam (Susie Abromeit) is the only light in Jessica's world. Her character brings (eventually along with Malcolm-Eka Darville) that small sliver of hope into the show. There are a few moments of levity when the writers snuck in Avenger and Marvel references.

The show would have gotten 5 Sheep from me because every episode surprised me and left me needing the next one! All the secondary characters are complex and well developed. The writers missed nothing! But...Jessica was able to catch Kilgrave (David Tennant) too many times just to have him escape. A sniper bullet would have taken care of this problem much sooner.

There are  many directions this show can go in and characters to use. I will definitely be watching season two, along with the Daredevil and Luke Cage series. If you are into the darker side of comics and fantasy, you will love it.

Not a mid-season ender, but a final one for Season 2 of The Librarians. This TV series on TNT is based off The Librarian movies. The star of The Librarian TV movies, Noah Wylie (Flynn Carson) is one of the executive producers of seventeen episodes of this TV series. He also appears in it on several occasions in Season 1 and this season. At the last episode for Season 2, it looks like he may be staying for Season 3 when it returns in 2016. So why, you say, would anyone care about a group of librarian setting off on adventures in an effort to save mysterious, ancient artifacts? First if you like fantasy, this series has it in spades. They have John Larroquette as Jenkins who serves the Library and the Librarians. Last season we found out he was one of King Arthur’s knights of the Round Table—immortal since that time (spoiler, highlight to read). And each week, they travel through a magical doorway to end up in different parts of the world or even time, to secure these artifacts for the Library and fight monsters and villains. And as fun as the original TV movies were.

In the last episode, “And the Final Curtain,” Prospero gains renewed magic that creates havoc with the world's technology. Flynn and Eve Baird (hired to be the new Librarians’’ guardian first season) must travel back to 1611 to battle Prospero and thwart his scheme to recreate a forest utopia. The season ended satisfactorily for me and I cannot wait until next year—no doubt November 2016—for Season 3.

I am absolutely in love with this series this season. I began watching the first season then lost interest. Picked it up this year and feel like they have gelled the stories and characters so much better. It's a cross between "Night at the Museum" and "Agents of Shield." A little history, a little magic and a little supernatural powers. I still haven't figured out the benefit of the female "guardian" role as it seems a little superfluous but it doesn't distract that much from the stories. If you gave up on it earlier, give it another try. I am always a fan of Noah Wylie and John Laraquette!

This was a visually stunning movie. The use of color as symbolism, the shadows, costumes, Hiddleston's butt...and how can you go wrong with Charlie Hunnam? It was a Victorian Gothic feast for the senses.

But the story...predictable and linear, not to mention some plot holes and parts that had me thinking "Why didn't they just...?" At no point was I surprised by the twists. There are lots of jump scares with rotten corpses and a lot of blood. A few are properly creepy, but for the most part nothing I haven't seen before. I loved the cast and they did a great job with what they were given. I don't think I could stand to live during that time period...those clothes looked suffocating, but pretty.

If you love the cinematography (also Tom and Charlie) of the trailer then this is worth a matinee price and seeing it on the big screen will enhanced the experience. The rest of you can wait and rent it.

TV Show Review: Fear the Walking Dead (Pilot)

What did the world look like as it was transforming into the horrifying apocalypse depicted in "The Walking Dead"? This spin-off set in Los Angeles, following new characters as they face the beginning of the end of the world, will answer that question.

I’ll admit I didn’t have that high of expectations going into watching the new Walking Dead spin off (Fear the Walking Dead). I’ve only seen the first season of the Walking Dead and the only reason I even gave the new spin off a chance was because it’s supposed to start before the zombie epidemic which is my favorite part. My biggest grievance with TWD was that it didn’t show the start of the epidemic, just jumped right into the middle of it.

I’m glad that I didn’t just blow off Fear because it had me three minutes in. It starts off right away with gore in a junkie church with a hot shirtless guy running for his life. Fast forward and he’s in the hospital where everyone calls him crazy for saying he saw a girl eat his friend in the church. I spent the entire hour and a half on edge, the show really nails the suspense; it’s like at any moment another infected will pop up. There’s so much clear foreshadowing and it really is the ‘prologue’ to TWD.

The atmosphere is one of sheer terror and suspense as you wait for the outbreak to kick off in te busy downtown LA. Some of the lines are kind of cheesy and there’s definitely the cliché struggling lovers but the ever present fear of zombies makes up for that.

Viral videos of a people attacking EMT workers at the scene of a ‘fatal’ accident, bodies disappearing, rumors of a strange virus striking several different cities and states, missing people flyers everywhere… it can only mean one thing… it’s begun.

Oh and it’s not the flu keeping kids out of school…

This magazine has so much to offer fans like myself such as interview articles with the cast. There are no second hand quotes, or recycled articles from other magazines or online interviews, these are exclusive interviews, exclusive quotes which I thoroughly enjoyed. Nothing chaps my rear like a fan magazine that doesn’t provide exclusive content. Then there are the extras like a monster guide which features photos, details and behind the scenes secrets about baddies like Moloch, The Golem and The Kindred but the Headless Horseman himself is surprisingly absent. In fact, there isn’t a profile or anything major about him at all which was strange and a bit disappointing seeing as he’s a huge part of the show and the current storyline. Maybe the next issue?

For fans who want a little more than just the standard interviews and character profiles, there is also a section where some of the best tweets from fans and the cast and crew are listed, some of them are pretty darn entertaining too. Speaking of tweets, the magazine also includes a list of cast and crew members who are on Twitter so if you’re not already following them, you can be sure that you’re following the real deals (In case you’re wondering, I’m totally following them all). A season 1 episode guide, trivia and other fun tidbits are just some of the information waiting for the curious and the diehard fans.

Really, I had fun reading this issue and learning stuff about one of my favorite shows that I didn’t know before! For example, did you know that you can purchase The Legend of Sleepy Hollow on audible.com and it is narrated by none other than Ichabod Crane himself, Tom Mison? Or that there is also a preview of the Sleepy Hollow comic?

This first issue of the Sleepy Hollow magazine shows a lot of promise and I’m curious to see how future issues will stack up and if the contributing writers will continue to deliver entertaining articles and interesting facts. According to the magazine itself, the February issue promises and interview with the lovely Katia Winter (Katrina Crane), season 2 news and more.

While all that sounds interesting and believe me I’d love to do a write up on each and every issue, there is one problem I saw with this magazine. At $9.99 an issue for US/CAN residents, that might cause more than a few fans to lose their heads (See what I did there?). It’s a little steep for my tastes but if you can swing the price, I’d say go for it. Especially if future issues are going to be this packed with Sleepy Hollow goodness.

Now that is how you take out the trash! No talking, just double and triple tap. I'll go ahead an confess, something about Kenau Reeves just makes me go squeee. I love his rough breathy voice...okay back to the movie...

John Wick is one big kill-fest with very little dialogue. The movie starts with John having to bury his wife of four years. Then somebody breaks into his house beats him up steals his car and...gonna give a spoiler but you need to be prepared for this...kills his puppy. Yes, you will get misty eyed. Then it is time for retribution. The action sequences have a video game feel to them as John mows down the bad guys. 

Don't get attached

Pulp action and dry wit, this movie is exactly what the trailer promises. If you are looking for character development go watch Bridget Joan's Diary. John Wick ain't about that life. He's the freaking boogieman (yeah, they actually call him that) 

You can watch it on TV and not lose much, but my husband and I agree that if you enjoy the movie experience, Keanu Reeves, and revenge films then this is worth the matinee price.

The demi-god of pleasure, Assarian is ordered by Zeus to train her in the hallowed halls of Mount Olympus to prove to his wife, Hera, goddess of marriage, mortals and immortals alike only need be physically satisfied to find fulfillment, to which Hera disagrees—all creatures must have love to be whole.

Take three great voices, bring them together in collaboration, and what do you get? Approximately 170 pages of Gods Gone Wild. This is a delightful smexy romp through the heavens with each story told having a very separate voice, yet all three meshing together beautifully in the same world. The characters are very colorful and fun with the naughty bad boys being taught lessons that they will eternally be grateful to have learned.

While I thoroughly enjoyed all three tales, I will admit to my favorite being Great Zeus!, the story of Epimetheus and Pandy, although had I been named Pandora at birth, I would have certainly smacked anyone who called me Pandy or at the very least gave them the eye. The second offering Oh My God started out not quite a lighthearted and it took me a while to warm up to Dionysus, but I have to admit it was fun watching the "Big D" get his comeuppance. The third story, Goddess in Training, is a very short sweet amuse-bouche that lets the reader enjoy the sparring between Hera and Zeus, and I will let you guess who won the bet that was placed in this tale.

Overall this is a lighthearted fun smexy anthology and I would recommend it to those who would enjoy a fun few hours of giggling smexy escape. I received this book with a request for my honest review without any compensation whatsoever, other than the joy of reading a new book.

A good mixture of dark fantasy and suspense, set in a fantasy world rich in world building that seems to be built upon our own, the story drew me in. Especially when the Darkwalker comes to where Lenoir now lives and they join to find the young boy the police inspector is looking for.

If you enjoy mysteries and love horror too, then this novel is a perfect fit of the shudders and intrigue.
