TV Show Review: Outer Range: Season 2 (TV Series) on Amazon Prime (Spoiler Alert)

Spoiler alert

Outer Range: Season 2 (TV Series)
2022- present
Created by: Brian Watkins
Genre: Drama; Mystery; Neo-Western; Science fiction; Thriller
Network: Amazon Prime Video
Cast: Josh Brolin, Imogen Poots, Lewis Pullman, Tom Pelphrey, Isabel Arraiza, Tamara Podemski
The Abbotts are coping with the disappearance of their daughter-in-law when the neighbouring Tillersons make a play for their ranch land. Tension comes to a head when a mysterious black void arrives in the Abbotts' pasture.

Outer Ranger Season 2 on Amazon Prime stars Josh Brolin, Lili Taylor, Imogen Poots, Lewis Pullman and Tamara Podemski. I had a free month of Prime shipping so I figured, what the heck I'll try this. Holy Moly. What a crazy show!

Season 1 leaves us with so many questions, what is this hole? What is the purpose and why is it just popping up? There's so much to unpack. We know Josh Brolin who plays Royal Abbot is somehow a key of sorts to this whole sci fi phenomena, but we don't know much else.

We watch Sheriff Joy who got trapped in the past and thankfully she gets back to her family. Although so mush time has passed on her end. My girl is CHANGED. To her core. She's seen some things man and I can not blame her for coming back with all kinds of PTSD. Of course she wants to talk it out with Royal, but he's trying to save his family and possibly the world from this dang-gum hole!

All the bodies and debris they keep throwing in that thing, have to be just piled up some place in time. Some poor souls in another time are just seeing bodies fall from the sky. No wonder we believe in Alien abductions! But I digress, this town has so much going on it's hard to keep track.

Plus, this show feeds you just a drop at a time. I feel like so many cards are being held back, maybe more unseen players are coming up. I have no idea and often find myself almost frustrated to watch another episode. Yet, I do. The show is very compelling, I just wish they would explain more. My god, talk Royal! Use your words! He's so closed lipped, it's like pulling teeth with a fork! You're killing me dude.

I have no idea why Amy/Autumn is so being so weird, why she thinks that she's almost like a god. But she's got some real mental health issues and hopefully more will come in season 3. Is she really going to be bad? I'm not so sure, but it's very hard to tell.

TV Show Review: Halo Season 2 TV Series - SPOILERS ALL OVER THIS

 Halo Season 2 TV Series
2022–
Creators: Steven Kane, Kyle Killen
Stars: Pablo Schreiber, Shabana Azmi, Natasha Culzac
Paramount+
Rating: TV-14
Episode length: 1h
9 episodes
Genre: Science Fiction, action, adventure
With the galaxy on the brink of destruction, Master Chief John-117 leads his team of Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant.

SPOILERS ALL OVER THIS

Halo, the series season 2, has been one heck of an action-packed ride! If you're reading, you've been warned about spoilers ahead. We pick up season 2 not long after the timeline of the first season. John and the team of Spartans are "benched" and forced to just train all the live long day. Boring!

The new management at the UNSC is shady AF from the start, but no surprises there. Never trusted any of them. Maybe Cortana was the only exception, but it was hard to tell what she was really up to for so long. All the suits want is to make weapons and win the war. At all costs. Which, okay, I get that humanity is on the line, but some dirty tactics and so freakin' sneaky!!!

So the team is forced to watch the action from the sidelines and, in doing so, watch their Master Chief John leader seem to fall apart. (Side note: Pablo, who plays Chief John, is a 6 foot 5 demi-god of pure alpha male. LOVE HIM!) As the viewers, we see what the 'powers that be' can't, and so we know that his lady love/hate, Makee, is alive and well. Plotting and brewing back with the covenant and still searching for the artifacts. I don't know why she went back with them. They wanted her dead, so makes no sense to me. She's a total wild card.

We get to see lots more of Soren and family, plus the mysterious Kwan Ha. She holds some kind of powers or abilities that have been alluded to, which tie together the three main characters. Dr Halsey is still manipulating everyone, all the time but she's still a very intriguing character that you really have no idea what she will do next. No matter what, it will always be something for her own gain.

Captain Keys gave one of the best speeches before battle time that I've heard, maybe since Braveheart. That man can rally the damn troops! Loved his heart at the end, even if he too has been part of some very awful behavior to obtain these kids.

Long live Vannak! What a guy, what a soldier and what a friend to his team. You just start to see another side of him, and it's snuffed out. At least, in the end, he dies a freaking hero.

Some weird parts of the overall storyline left some gaps for me about what was going on. If I had played the game, maybe I would have known. But as just a viewer, it's like things are glossed over. If you know, you know, kind of feeling. But that said, what another fun ride on a show with so much more to offer than visual effects and bang bang shoot'em up.

We end this season with some gross virus that is turning everyone so far into almost zombie-like creatures and gross bug things come out of them. Was very scary and gory in parts, plus with Dr Halsey now infected and on ice, we just have no idea if she can make it. Her daughter better be working on that cure! Hope she paid attention in chemistry.

Tons of character depth, intergalactic high jinxes, well-acted thoughtful characters, heartfelt moments, loss of likable characters, and certainly a scifi show that makes you feel like you're right in the thick of it all. I can not wait for season 3! Soren's a single dad now, this ancient city and tech, is Kai alive or dead, what will happen next?!

I highly recommend this one for everyone of all ages. Video game or not; it is so enjoyable!

TV Series Review: YuYu Hakusho (Netflix 2023)

YuYu Hakusho (Netflix)
First episode date: December 14, 2023 (Japan)
Based on: YuYu Hakusho by Yoshihiro Togashi
Genre: Action; Adventure; Comedy drama; Fantasy
Network: Netflix
5 episodes
Original language: Japanese
Producer: Akira Morii
Cast: Takumi Kitamura, Jun Shison, Kanata Hongō, Shuhei Uesugi
Yusuke Urameshi, who died saving a little boy, is sent back to Earth and becomes a detective of the spirit world to fight all the demons found on Earth.

I tend to love live-action adaptations of manga/anime. Tokyo Ghoul, Bleach, Full-Metal Alchemist and now YuYu Hakusho! I had never head of this one before. The five episode series (yay for not drawing things out!) is based on the 1990–94 manga... I figured that out when I saw the outfits and hairstyles the characters had, lol, hammer-time pants everywhere!

The first episode was a little cheesy and I had my doubts but once the demons showed up and the fighting started...BOOM, I was hooked. They spared no expense on the choreography and special effects. So much fun! I've always loved the demons from manga/anime. Very creative and creepy.

If you enjoy supernatural Japanese series then check this one out.

Look at the comparison of the live-action characters to the original...

This guy bothered me a little. He looked like there was a pacifier in his mouth, lol

TV Show Reveiew: Resident Alien (SYFY)

Resident Alien SYFY TV Series
Creator Chris Sheridan
Stars: Alan Tudyk, Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds
website
TV-14
An alien crash lands on Earth and must pass himself off as small-town human doctor Harry Vanderspeigle. Arriving with a secret mission to kill all humans, Harry starts off living a simple life… but things get a bit rocky when he’s roped into solving a local murder and realizes he needs to assimilate into his new world.

Not long ago I had an old injury come back and lay me out for a couple weeks. During that time I was flipping around my Peacock app and found a show based off a Dark Horse Comic series.

I sure love Dark Horse so that got me interested right away. Turns out the lead character is played by Alan Tudyk from Firefly and now I'm REALLY interested.

The show has aired two seasons so far on the SYFY channel and hopefully season three will drop early next year. The show is set in a small town called Patience, Colorado and the people of the town make the show even more engaging. Filled will humor, dark comedy and some really heart felt moments that had me watching episodes non-stop.

When an alien crash lands into this small town and tried to "blend in", it sure does lead to some very funny comedic moments. Lots of them actually. The addition of some major hitting actors like Linda Hamilton and Terry O'Quinn only bring this one up to yet another level of entertainment.

Each episode adds another layer of depth and emotion to an already building world. Tons of heart felt moments and life lessons just burst all around this one. I loved it, didn't want it to end and look forward to watching what will hopefully be many more years of entertainment.

SYFY and Dark Horse have found an alien match made in the cosmos above and what a thoroughly pleasurable ride this one is. Probe away on me anytime!

TV Series Review: Resident Evil (Netflix)

Resident Evil series
July 14, 2022
Netflix
Genres Action, Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller
Cast:
Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez, Lance Reddick
The story takes place over two timelines. The first of which involves 14 year old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker moving to New Raccoon City. They come to realise that their father may be concealing dark secrets that could destroy the world. The second timeline takes place over a decade in the future, where only 15 million humans remain, with over 6 billion animals and people being infected with the T-virus. It follows Jade, now thirty, in her efforts to survive in this world.

A lot of negative things are being said about the new Resident Evil series from Netflix, and most of that hate is from the die-hard video game and movie franchise fans. So if you're not one of those people but love action/horror/sci-fi shows, you will probably love this. I did!

I never played the games (not a gamer), but I've seen all the movies and love me some Alice (I always wanted to cosplay her). The new TV series is more of a spin-off series with roots in the movies/games, but they created something different. I don't think the die-hard are the target audience.

The show does skip between two timelines throughout all eight episodes, and at first, they don't mesh well because you don't know the whole story yet, but the two start to run parallel the closer you get to episode eight. I think it is a fun piece of storytelling. Not like Oscar-winning, but for a sci-fi series, I was intrigued, and there is plenty of suspense. Lots of twists to keep it interesting. You have to overlook some things, like why didn't they just shoot them?! But that's the case in a lot of action scenes, lol.

My husband and I loved it and will be waiting for season two. Great sci-fi monster fun! Give it a shot.

TV Series Review: Snowpiercer Season 1 (2020)

Snowpiercer TV Series (2020– )
Creators: Josh Friedman, Graeme Manson
Director: Bong Joon-ho
Stars: Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Mickey Sumner
Action, Drama, Sci-Fi
Network: TNT
Premiere Date: May 17, 2020
10 episodes
Seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, the remnants of humanity inhabit a perpetually-moving train that circles the globe, where class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival play out.

My husband and I saw the movie Snowpiercer way back when. It was kind of depressing. But the trailer for the TV series was interesting and we felt it was worth a try. Yeah, I watched it back in May and just reviewing it now.

Some people I talked to weren't going to watch it based on their feelings about the movie--like I said, depressing. The first episode did have that feel to it, but it was more to set up the dynamic on the train between the first-class and the lower. After that, it is a very different story.

We enjoyed it. There was an interesting murder mystery and I really like the characters/actors. Jennifer Connelly as Melanie Cavill and Daveed Diggs as Andre Layton are excellent as well as Mickey Sumner's Bess Francis Till. Every episode ended with a cliff-hanger to keep you waiting for more.

The second season premiers on January 25, 2021.

The movie/TV series are based on the 2013 South Korean–Czech film of the same name (directed by Bong Joon-ho) and the 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige. You can read the graphic novel in English.

Does Sheepsquatch exist? You be the judge...

Look what I found while procrastinating looking for important stuff on the internet. There is a Sheepsquatch!
Mountain Monsters; Sheepsquatch interpretation

According to the website Cryptid Wiki (http://cryptidz.wikia.com/wiki/Sheepsquatch):

"Sheepsquatch, also known as the "White Thing", is a woolly-haired cryptid reported across numerous counties in West Virginia, predominantly within the southwestern region of the state. The counties with the most sightings are Boone, Kanawha, Putnam, and Mason, with a surge in sightings taking place in Boone County during the mid-1990s.

It is described as being a quadruped about the size of a bear, with entirely white wool-like fur. It has a long and pointed head, similar to a dog but with long, saber-like teeth and a single-point set of horns not dissimilar from those found on a young goat. Its forelimbs end in paw-like hands, similar to those of a raccoon but larger, while its tail is long and hairless like that of an opossum. It is reputed to smell like sulfur, which has been attributed through folklore to the beast being born within the TNT Area in Mason County like one of the Mothman theories, though this is not likely and instead may be a musk scent gland similar to those found in many species in the order Carnivora such as weasels and skunks"

You can head to Cryptid Wiki to get the details about multiple Sheepsquatch sightings starting in 1994.

Sheepsquatch was also featured on the television series Mountain Monsters (Season 2 ep. 6, May 8, 2014). The show follows the Appalachian Investigators of Mysterious Sightings (AIMS) team as they research and find evidence of unidentified creatures in the Appalachian Mountains. -Wiki

TV Series Review: Damien: The Beast Rises Season 1- Episode 1

Damien: The Beast Rises
A&E

TV-14 V, LS 1 -E 1
Mar 07, 2016
Duration: 43m 9s
Staring: Bradley James
After experiencing a traumatic event while on assignment in Syria, acclaimed war photographer Damien Thorn is forced to confront his past and face the fact that he is the Antichrist.

The original movie, The Omen, was released in 1976. I was 9 years old and the commercials with that dog scene scared the bejeebus out of me. It was years later when I read the book and saw the movie.

The A&E TV series picks up 25 years after the first movie. It is Damien Thorn's 30th birthday and we find out he has no memory of his childhood. He is now a photo journalist working on a story in the Middle East. An old lady touches him and brings back flashes of memory. He has always felt like a dark cloud hung over him and he pushed away people who got too close. He tries to find answers and people start dying. The dogs are back too! This time 3 Rottweilers. The episode ends with Damien realizing who he really is.

I liked it. There will be no acting awards or script writing awards, but they nailed the horror and foreboding atmosphere. Bradley James plays Damien and he is mighty nice to look at. The music score is reminiscent of the original movie, but updated. I'll be keeping up with this one. If stories of the Antichrist and the religious connection with it make you nervous or unsettled, you might want to skip this one.

Sheep Talk: 2016 New TV Shows Reviews

Everyone weighed in on what they thought of the new TV shows that aired in the beginning of 2016. Leave your thoughts in the comments! From the looks of it, Lucifer is the big winner this season.

Galavant season 2 to premiere on January 03, 2016
http://goo.gl/CmXknH

Pamela: Pass-Like the first season last year, I enjoyed the poking fun at medieval fantasy heroes and heroines, plus villains, all done in song and dance Broadway style.

“The Shannara Chronicles” premieres Jan. 5 at 10 p.m. on MTV.
http://goo.gl/kzZS97

Sharon: Fail- I had high hopes for this after the first episode. The heroine Amberle was tough and driven. Then she became a whiny princess who was so thin it was painful running around in a strapless corset. The druid Allanon sounds like Sean Connery and I just can't picture John Rhys-Davies as the Elvin King.

Denise: Fail: At first I really enjoyed the show but after a couple of episodes I kind of lost interest. The story lines weren’t holding my attention through the whole episode. It has lots of potential and maybe if the show had some writing/director/producer changes it would be great.

Angel From Hell Thursdays on CBS Premieres January 7
http://goo.gl/kzZS97
already cancelled

Sharon: Was cancelled before I got a chance to watch!
Denise: Did watch the show but knew it would be cancelled. I only watched it when I was killing time and that was mainly because I liked the cast.

Shadowhunters premieres Jan. 12 at 9 p.m. on Freeform.
http://goo.gl/GgRMRy

Sharon: Fail- There just aren't words for how bad this was...

Denise: Pass – I really enjoy this show but there is A LOT of room for improvement. Sometimes it just seems to fake for my tastes.

Second Chance Wed 9/8c Jan 13 Fox
(orginally called The Frankenstein Code)
http://goo.gl/mdStLV

Denise: Pass – I love this show! It has a great cast and the story line is new and full of imagination. Love the technology on this one!

Legends of Tomorrow Thursdays on The CW Premieres January 21
http://goo.gl/nJX1zx

Sharon: Meh- I'm not as happy with this as I wanted to be. The main problem is I hate half the cast and love the other half. You can never get enough of Captain Cold and Heat Wave, Firestorm and Dr. Stein, and Ray. The rest of the cast makes my eye twitch...

Denise: Pass – I am a fan of all of these shows so I was excited to see another one come along. The part I hate though is that I miss some of the characters on the original shows they came from. I’d also like to see them actually succeed once in awhile.

X-Files returns Jan. 24 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT on FOX.
http://goo.gl/uqyw5C

Sharon: Fail- watch the first two episodes one and just can't find the desire to watch more.

Katie: Pass- I loved seeing the ever truth seeking pair reunited and could care less about anything else. Some really funny episodes kept me entertained each week. I would watch more seasons for sure!

Denise: So/so – Loved the original X-Files but this didn’t hold my attention the way the originals ones did.

The Magicians premieres Jan. 25 at 9 p.m. on Syfy.
http://goo.gl/FjB6GQ

Sharon: Pass- My husband and  I really like this one. I like the dark edge to it and the characters. I read the book when it came out and hated it, but the TV series is much better.

Denise: Pass- Absolutely love this one! This is a story line that hasn’t been overdone and is filled with more than just romance and happy stuff. It has a darker side and not everyone wins.

Pamela: Fail-I watched a couple of episodes and it just failed to catch my interest.

Lucifer Mondays on FOX Premieres January 25
http://goo.gl/iy07RH
Sharon: Pass- Everyone is loving this one! Including me. I adore the character.
Jeanie G PassJust watched the first episode of the new tv series "Lucifer" and am 80% sure I will be tuning in for future episodes.  Who wouldn't be curious about how the Prince of Darkness spends his vacation time on earth!

I thoroughly enjoyed actor Tom Ellis (Lucifer) and his ability to pull off this unusual interpretation of Lucifer.  Handsome, quirky and arrogant with a touch of darkness, he draws you in to the character.  I put this in a category similar to the the series "the Mentalist" with a paranormal twist.

The leading man is tall, dark and handsome with a charming smile and "irresistible personality.  The female lead is a little unbelievable as a detective but perhaps her character will develop in future episodes.  I haven't quite bought into her performance but I am really taken with the storyline and want to see what the writers have in store for Lucifer.  He (Tom) is definitely worth watching!

One of the character creaters is Neil Gaiman, an Urban fantasy author (and much more) of which I have enjoyed following.  This gives me high hopes for this series.

If you are looking for something somewhat light, refreshing with a new spin on the "dark side", tune in and give it a try.  This could be a winner.

Bianca: Pass- Despite being more than a little predictable, Lucifer is great fun with a male lead who's hotter than hell.
Tammy: Fail – Even though funny in areas I expected the main character to me more Alpha not Feminine.  This one does not cut if for me.
Denise: Pass – Great humor and I love how full of himself Lucifer is! A must watch.

You, Me and the End of the World(NBC) Premieres Thursday, Jan 28 at 8/7c
http://goo.gl/288Ri2

Denise: Ok – I never intended to watch it but had nothing to watch one day so I gave it a whirl. Not a great show but yet I kept watching so there must be something there.

Fuller House Friday on Netflix Premieres February 26
http://goo.gl/1ySEMs

Tammy: Pass – They did a great fantastic job weaving in the characters with the old and new show. It was almost like the show never stopped.

TV Series Review: Jessica Jones (2015) Netflix

Jessica Jones
TV-MA | 1h | Action, Crime, Drama | TV Series (2015– )
Creator: Melissa Rosenberg
Stars: Krysten Ritter, Rachael Taylor, Eka Darville, David Tennant, Carrie-Anne Moss, Mike Colter, Susie Abromeit
A former superhero decides to reboot her life by becoming a private investigator.

Finally, I got to watch Jessica Jones. I haven't read the Marvel comic but I was sold on the trailer. Dark, gripping and raw...pretty much sums it up. I loved it! I'm a fan of dark fantasy and this certainly is. The series starts out with Jessica in a really bad place emotionally. She is being stalked by a mind controller who takes stalking to a whole new level. She decides to fight back but nothing but pain and death result.

I think Krysten Ritter was a great choice for Jessica Jones; I'm happy with all the casting choices. Have you seen Mike Colter (Luke Cage)? Looking forward to his Netflix series coming this year! This show isn't for the light of heart. It is violent (like garden shears through the face violent). It deals with physical and emotional rape, drug abuse, PTSD and grief. Jessica's best friend, Pam (Susie Abromeit) is the only light in Jessica's world. Her character brings (eventually along with Malcolm-Eka Darville) that small sliver of hope into the show. There are a few moments of levity when the writers snuck in Avenger and Marvel references.

The show would have gotten 5 Sheep from me because every episode surprised me and left me needing the next one! All the secondary characters are complex and well developed. The writers missed nothing! But...Jessica was able to catch Kilgrave (David Tennant) too many times just to have him escape. A sniper bullet would have taken care of this problem much sooner.

There are  many directions this show can go in and characters to use. I will definitely be watching season two, along with the Daredevil and Luke Cage series. If you are into the darker side of comics and fantasy, you will love it.

TV Show Review: Fear the Walking Dead (Pilot)

Fear the Walking Dead (2015– )
TV Series | 60 min | Drama, Horror
Creators: Dave Erickson, Robert Kirkman

Stars: Rubén Blades, Mercedes Mason, Cliff Curtis
What did the world look like as it was transforming into the horrifying apocalypse depicted in "The Walking Dead"? This spin-off set in Los Angeles, following new characters as they face the beginning of the end of the world, will answer that question.

I’ll admit I didn’t have that high of expectations going into watching the new Walking Dead spin off (Fear the Walking Dead). I’ve only seen the first season of the Walking Dead and the only reason I even gave the new spin off a chance was because it’s supposed to start before the zombie epidemic which is my favorite part. My biggest grievance with TWD was that it didn’t show the start of the epidemic, just jumped right into the middle of it.

I’m glad that I didn’t just blow off Fear because it had me three minutes in. It starts off right away with gore in a junkie church with a hot shirtless guy running for his life. Fast forward and he’s in the hospital where everyone calls him crazy for saying he saw a girl eat his friend in the church. I spent the entire hour and a half on edge, the show really nails the suspense; it’s like at any moment another infected will pop up. There’s so much clear foreshadowing and it really is the ‘prologue’ to TWD.

The atmosphere is one of sheer terror and suspense as you wait for the outbreak to kick off in te busy downtown LA. Some of the lines are kind of cheesy and there’s definitely the cliché struggling lovers but the ever present fear of zombies makes up for that.

Viral videos of a people attacking EMT workers at the scene of a ‘fatal’ accident, bodies disappearing, rumors of a strange virus striking several different cities and states, missing people flyers everywhere… it can only mean one thing… it’s begun.

Oh and it’s not the flu keeping kids out of school…
