Magazine Review: Sleepy Hollow magazine

Sleepy Hollow #1
Official Magazine

Titan Magazines
Available From: 18 November 2014

Hang on to your seats Sleepy Hollow fans, Titan Magazines has brought us a Sleepy Hollow magazine! That’s right, in case you need more Ichabod and Abbie, you can now pick up monthly issues based on the Fox TV series.

This magazine has so much to offer fans like myself such as interview articles with the cast. There are no second hand quotes, or recycled articles from other magazines or online interviews, these are exclusive interviews, exclusive quotes which I thoroughly enjoyed. Nothing chaps my rear like a fan magazine that doesn’t provide exclusive content. Then there are the extras like a monster guide which features photos, details and behind the scenes secrets about baddies like Moloch, The Golem and The Kindred but the Headless Horseman himself is surprisingly absent. In fact, there isn’t a profile or anything major about him at all which was strange and a bit disappointing seeing as he’s a huge part of the show and the current storyline. Maybe the next issue?

For fans who want a little more than just the standard interviews and character profiles, there is also a section where some of the best tweets from fans and the cast and crew are listed, some of them are pretty darn entertaining too. Speaking of tweets, the magazine also includes a list of cast and crew members who are on Twitter so if you’re not already following them, you can be sure that you’re following the real deals (In case you’re wondering, I’m totally following them all). A season 1 episode guide, trivia and other fun tidbits are just some of the information waiting for the curious and the diehard fans.

Really, I had fun reading this issue and learning stuff about one of my favorite shows that I didn’t know before! For example, did you know that you can purchase The Legend of Sleepy Hollow on audible.com and it is narrated by none other than Ichabod Crane himself, Tom Mison? Or that there is also a preview of the Sleepy Hollow comic?

This first issue of the Sleepy Hollow magazine shows a lot of promise and I’m curious to see how future issues will stack up and if the contributing writers will continue to deliver entertaining articles and interesting facts. According to the magazine itself, the February issue promises and interview with the lovely Katia Winter (Katrina Crane), season 2 news and more.

While all that sounds interesting and believe me I’d love to do a write up on each and every issue, there is one problem I saw with this magazine. At $9.99 an issue for US/CAN residents, that might cause more than a few fans to lose their heads (See what I did there?). It’s a little steep for my tastes but if you can swing the price, I’d say go for it. Especially if future issues are going to be this packed with Sleepy Hollow goodness.

Her Avenging Angel (Her Angel Romance Series Book 7)
Felicity Heaton

Kindle Edition, 327 pages
October 11th 2014

Once a proud angel of Heaven, Nevar is now a servant of Hell, bound to a new master—the King of Demons. Consumed by darkness and driven to seek revenge, he set in motion a series of events that awakened the Great Destroyer, a force that will bring about the apocalypse. Now, he is the creature’s master and the fate of our world rests in the hands of an angel with only darkness in his heart.

Lost in the mortal realm without any recollection of how she came to be there, Lysia is only aware that she has survived a great battle. When she stumbles into a demon bar, she finds more than a chance to discover what happened to her—she finds a dark and deadly angel warrior who stirs fire in her veins and awakens soul-searing passion she cannot deny.

With the mounting threat of the Great Destroyer, the forces of Heaven and Hell against him, and a band of dangerous angels intent on capturing Lysia on his heels, can Nevar protect the beautiful woman who is light to his darkness and find the strength to save the world?

There’s always a sense of urgency in a Felicity Heaton book but never more so than in Her Avenging Angel. When the book begins there’s not a whole lot of time before the immense battle between heaven and hell begins and there’s more than just a happy ending riding on Nevar and Lysia’s romance. No pressure though right?

I have yet to be disappointed in any of Heaton’s books and this one is no exception. The characters are strong and unpredictable yet completely likable, even when they’re in demon form! Nevar, I have to say has been the most intriguing character to me because he was once from heaven, then he finds himself a servant to the King of Demons, Asmodeus. As if that’s not enough, his thirst for revenge sets off a chain of events that could begin the apocalypse. Yeah, he’s been a pretty busy guy. It was his transition from servant of Heaven to servant of Hell and beyond that really got my attention. Nevar’s reasons, his methods, and even his development as a character never had a dull moment. He was just interesting to me.

Lysia is of course, not to be outdone by Nevar. Now she’s hiding something extraordinary, and deadly within her, in fact, Lysia has to be the most powerful character in the entire series so far. I just love how Felicity Heaton can take a female character, make her sound like a run of the mill heroine in the beginning and gradually reveal that she is in fact, a lot more powerful than she seemed at first. I am all for female characters who are more integral to a story than just arm candy or a clueless damsel to be saved. Does Lysia need to be saved? Yes, but she also needs to do a little saving herself. Equal opportunity here folks and that’s part of what makes Heaton’s female characters so likable.

Her Avenging Angel is definitely a darker paranormal romance than the usual, in fact, all of Heaton’s books are darker, bloodier and steamier than most which completely works for me, in fact, I would be disappointed if her books were to “lighten” up. This is a paranormal romance and it wouldn’t be much good if body parts didn’t get chopped off. Right? There’s plenty of action to go around with this one and it keeps things interesting and sets a pretty brisk pace.

Complex but not impossible, Her Avenging Angel could be read as a standalone but I found that reading the previous books made scenes with multiple characters easier to understand because I knew who was connected to who and how, as well as who had what kind of abilities. Otherwise, I might have gotten a bit confused. Enjoy the reappearance of previous characters as well like Asmodeus, Marcus, Liora, Appollyon, Erin, Veiron, Amelia, Serenity, Lukas and Annelie. I know I did.

Book Review: Her Demonic Angel (Her Angel #5) by Felicity Heaton

Her Demonic Angel (Her Angel #5)
by Felicity Heaton

ebook, 395 pages
Published September 12th 2012
by Dark Rose Publishing
A demonic angel with a heart of ice, Veiron walks a dark path with vengeance on his mind. Nothing will sway him from his mission to destroy his master... until he risks his life to enter Hell once more to save a mortal female. The fiery beauty makes him burn with hungers he must battle and needs he cannot deny, tempting him to surrender body and soul to her.

Erin is convinced her refusal to do the Devil’s bidding will see her die in a terrifying realm straight out of her nightmares. The last thing she expects is the lethally sensual warrior who breaks into her cell and awakens the darkest desires of her heart and a fierce longing to know the heat of his caress.

Pulled into an incredible world where war is set to ignite and darkness is on the rise, Erin races with Veiron to escape the Devil’s legions in a journey fraught with danger and filled with passion that flares white-hot.

When Erin is faced with a life-shattering realisation and an extraordinary destiny, will their love give them the strength to battle both Heaven and Hell or will they be parted forever?

On a personal mission to destroy his master, Veiron is willing to do anything to accomplish his goal, but risking his life and going back into Hell to rescue a mortal woman wasn’t something he was planning on doing. The woman’s presence drags out emotions in Veiron that he cannot afford to feel yet he can’t bury. Having refused to do the devil’s bidding, Erin finds herself imprisoned in Hell, never expecting a warrior angel to break in and save her.

Once again Felicity Heaton has penned one hell of a journey! While the entire Her Angel series are connected in a small way, they can be read as standalones, which is great because I so read them out of order. To me there are not enough red haired heroes, much less ones with red wings! Veiron really stands out. While he technically belongs to the Devil, Veiron had a lot of redeeming qualities that put him in a category all his own. I enjoyed the relationship between him and Erin and how they grew as individuals and as a couple. Their story is by far one of the most interesting. It’s dark, it’s gritty and fun as hell! By the time Her Demonic Angel takes place, the battle between Heaven and Hell has reached a new level and things are starting to get very interesting!

Book Review: Her Guardian Angel (Her Angel #4) by Felicity Heaton

Her Guardian Angel (Her Angel #4)
by Felicity Heaton
ebook
Published July 30th 2011
A love so strong it will shake Heaven and Hell.

A guardian angel dedicated to his duty, Marcus will do whatever Heaven asks of him, but even his loyalty has its limits. When his superior orders him to gain Amelia’s trust through seduction, Marcus starts to question his mission and his feelings for the beautiful woman he has watched over since her birth.

Amelia has gone from one bad relationship to another, so when a gorgeous guy moves in next door looking like Mr Right, she hopes he doesn’t turn out to be another black knight in disguise. But there’s more to Marcus than meets the eye, and when he rescues her from three demonic men, Amelia is thrust into his nightmarish world. On the run from demonic angels and the Devil himself, aided by warrior angels and their amazing women, Marcus and Amelia discover a love that will last forever.

When the strength of that love is put to the test, will Marcus and Amelia win their fight for survival against the odds or will they lose in a deadly eternal game between Heaven and Hell?

The stories in the Her Angel paranormal romance series are joined by world rather than story, so you can enjoy reading them in any order.
Books in the Her Angel series:
Her Dark Angel (Her Angel romance book #1)
Her Fallen Angel (Her Angel romance book #2)
Her Warrior Angel (Her Angel romance book #3)
Her Guardian Angel (Her Angel romance book #4)
Her Demonic Angel (Her Angel romance book #5)
Book 6: Her Wicked Angel
Book 7: Her Avenging Angel

A dedicated guardian angel, Marcus begins to question how far his loyalty goes when he is ordered to seduce a woman in order to gain her trust. Having gone from bad to worse in the relationship department, Amelia is reluctant to trust her gorgeous next door neighbor, until he saves her from demons. Now Marcus and Amelia have to run for their lives all while fighting their growing attraction.

I’m so used to Felicity Heaton’s heroes being demons, vampires and dark creatures that it was a new experience to have a hero from Heaven. Though Marcus isn’t a complete saint that’s what I found intriguing about him. He’s basically this emotionless machine that fights mostly for good but the “Good Guys” aren’t shy about sacrificing a few for the good of many and when Marcus realizes that, it’s almost like a switch flips inside of him and he is suddenly no longer something the “Good Guys” can control.

Then there’s Amelia. She’s just the type of female character I enjoy: The take charge, kick ass and don’t bother taking names kind. Her Guardian Angel takes paranormal romance fans on a lengthy, unpredictable, fun ride and introduced me to Apollyon, a character that just begs for more page time. One thing I truly enjoy about Heaton’s books is that the women are never less than equals with the men. Sure, you have Marcus who’s an angel for crying out loud but Amelia doesn’t exactly simper and whine at him. She’s a go getter of a woman and when she sets her sights on Marcus he stands no chance of resisting. Amelia has that single minded determination that helps her and Marcus overcome their enemies.

Book Reviews: Welcome to Hell Series (books 1-4 by Eve Langlais

Adria reviews all four of the Welcome to Hell series by Eve Langlais

I had quite a task on my hands: Read and do mini reviews of the first 4 books in Eve Langlais’ Welcome to Hell series as well as a full length review for her latest release in the series, Hell’s Kitty. I’d never read Langlais’ work before so I braced myself for whatever would come.

Apparently, I didn't quite prepare for the entire experience.

A Demon and His Witch (Welcome to Hell #1)
Burning alive is nothing compared to the heat of his touch.

There are better ways to break up with a girl than having her roasted at the stake as a witch. Is it any wonder Ysabel has trust issues? She got her revenge, though, and it only cost her a slightly tarnished soul.

Working for Lucifer isn’t all bad, until her ex-boyfriend escapes the bowels of Hell and she’s forced to team up with a womanizing demon to fetch the jerk back.

As a minion in Lucifer’s legion, Remy’s seen a lot of things, but nothing can prepare him for the witch with the acerbic tongue – and voluptuous figure. The more she pushes him away, the more determined he becomes to seduce her. However, what’s a poor demon to do when he accidentally falls in love and wants to keep her forever?

Warning: This story contains a sexy demon with corny pickup lines and a sassy witch who works for Satan. There is coarse language, hot scenes, a twisted version of Hell and a whole lot of giggles. If you possess an open mind, a good sense of humor and a tainted soul, then read at your own peril.

Burned for being a witch, Ysabel sold her soul to the devil in exchange for revenge on those responsible for her death, including her lover. Now, hundreds of years later, those responsible have escaped hell and Ysabel must team up with an arrogant demon named Remy to hunt them down and return them to Lucifer.

Remy is one of the best guards in hell, he’s seen and done many things, most of which he’s proud of, but for the life of him he can’t seem to impress, let alone seduce Ysabel. The more time he spends with her, the more he realizes that he wants more than just a onetime fling. Convincing Ysabel however, is going to be the fight of his life.

A Demon and His Witch had me laughing out loud (unattractive snorting laughs included) from the first chapter and it didn’t stop until I finished the last page!

The hero Remy should have been annoying and unlikable. He’s so dang arrogant about his ability to score with any woman that you just want to haul off and punch him in the nose. Or in Ysabel’s case, the balls. That pretty much sets the tone for these two in the first half of the book which for me, was a blast to read. I love a heroine who can give the hero hell in more ways than one. Of course, a hate-hate relationship is the perfect grounds for explosive chemistry and Langlais didn’t disappoint with Remy and Ysabel. There’s such an attraction there yet neither one is ready to let down their guard and stop trading insults.

My only problem with A Demon and His Witch was the quick conclusion. The story built up this understanding of an epic showdown between Ysabel and Fransisco but there wasn’t one. It was just a quick exchange of insults between him and Remy and then poof! He got sent back to hell. I would have liked to have seen some kind of fight scene with him and Ysabel. Other than that, this was a really fun read.

Sheep Rating: 4 ½ sheep

A Demon and His Psycho (Welcome to Hell #2)
With a giggle and an outrageous mouth – perfect for things other than talking – Katie comes flying into Xaphan’s life, upsetting centuries of self-inflicted misery. How can he stay true to the one he lost when a bubbly psycho, with mismatched eyes, keeps consuming his thoughts – and awakening his desire?

So she was a tad bit nuts, Katie’s insanity came in handy as the Devil’s favorite problem solver. But killing’s not on the menu when a dragon goes missing, and worse, Lucifer teams her up with Hell’s grumpiest demon. His rejection of her advances only makes her more determined to seduce him. And despite her violent reputation, a part of her is oddly tempted to let him live.

The Welcome to Hell series (is best read in order for full enjoyment of Lucifer and his ongoing matchmaking attempts)

A psychotic killer as a heroine huh?

That and a bit of an eyebrow lift was my reaction when I started this book. I thought I’d read every kind of main character, but apparently I was wrong.

Matchmaking Lucifer is at it again, this time he’s paired his most serious warrior Xaphan with the psychotic Katie in hopes that they’ll be able to find a missing dragon. Of course, he doesn’t mention to the pair that he hopes they’ll do a lot more than just find the dragon.

I liked Katie’s instability, strange but true. She kept the story from becoming predictable. Whenever Katie would cross paths with another character, I wasn’t sure if she would talk to them or slaughter them. It was hard to find fault in her “love ‘em then kill ‘em” logic given her past and I found her oddly endearing.

Quite the opposite, Xaphan is an honorable demon who’s ill made promise to a woman has turned him into a sour creature that rarely (if ever) smiles, let alone lets his guard down to have some fun. I could definitely see why Lucifer paired him with Katie. I mean, the entertainment factor alone is reason enough. Xaphan is fierce and protective and Katie just doesn’t care if she pushes someone too far, she’ll just kill them. Or try.

A Demon and His Psycho was a bloody, sexy good time. There are plenty of laughs to be had and Katie, though crazy enough to kill anyone who looks at her wrong, is a fun character who brought out the best in Xaphan and is so far the only character who truly doesn’t mind ticking Lucifer off. Though I do have to mention that once again, the conclusion is rather rushed and an appearance from a person in Xaphan’s past seems almost an afterthought. In fact, I don’t know why Langlais put that character in, since they didn’t provide anything other than another body to count.

Sheep Rating: 4 sheep

A Demon and Her Scot (Welcome to Hell #3)
“Fetch me a Scot,” Lucifer commands. Sounds simple, except the skirt-wearing jerk won’t cooperate. But Aella isn’t one to give up. Willing or not, she delivers her target to the Lord of Sin. In retaliation, the much-too-sexy Scot has Aella assigned as his bodyguard for the golfing match from Hell. One shot ruined Niall’s life. A second shot could help him regain it. Niall sold his soul once to win a lady’s heart only to end up betrayed. Does he dare take a risk and give love a second chance?Lucifer needs to improve his golf game in time to compete in the highly anticipated, once in a century golf game so he sends one of his favorite minions to bring in a Scottish vampire known for his amazing golf skills. Being the Lord of Sin has its perks, and if the two stubborn creatures happen to fall in love, well then that’s a bonus for Lucifer.

Okay this one is definitely my favorite in the series! First of all, I love me a Scotsman and second, I love a heroine who has gone through hell but came out of it as a snarky, take no prisoners warrior. Matching Niall and Aella together was sheer genius on Eve Langlais’ part because the sparks (and body parts) went flying the second they set eyes on each other. It was hate at first sight laced with sexual innuendo and witty comebacks. My favorite kind of chemistry! When I wasn’t laughing out loud, I was fanning myself because man did those two burn up my e-reader!

The plot was fun and I thought that the idea of Lucifer taking golfing lessons from a stubborn golfing vampire was pretty entertaining. Lucifer is hilarious, a mix of evil leader, horny teenager and petulant child that doesn’t like to be wrong in anything. A Demon and Her Scot was a quick read with very likable characters, incredible chemistry, entertaining dialogue and one very funny golf match.
Sheep Rating: 4 ½ Sheep

Hell's Kitty (Welcome to Hell #4)
Good thing this Hellcat has nine lives because he’s going to need them if he’s going to survive Lucifer’s latest scheme and land on his four furry feet.

Okay, so Felipe ate a few of the Styx sea creatures. In his defense, they were awfully tasty. Depleting the monster reservoir didn’t mean Lucifer had to go all Lord of Hell on him and order him to go on a stupid mission. And to Siren Isle of all places! Everyone knows males should stay far, far away from that dangerous place. The only stroke of luck is the woman he’s after isn’t a siren. Nor is she quite a mermaid. As a matter of fact, Jenny isn’t like anyone he’s ever met—so, of course, this curious cat wants her.

Except he’s not the only one.

Not long after his arrival, he runs into problems, which he’s only too happy to solve in a permanent and violent fashion. Getting Jenny off the island and back to Hell’s inner circle is proving more troublesome than expected, though. Who knew a simple retrieval mission would signal the start of a dangerous—yet exhilarating—adventure, and despite his tomcat ways, this purring feline can’t help but fall in love.

Hell’s Kitty was a little slow for me, at least in the beginning. Whereas the preceding books started off with a bang (usually on the heroine’s part), this book took quite a while to warm up. Jenny was almost the total opposite of the heroines that I thoroughly enjoyed before.

Jenny was too shy, too hesitant for my tastes, especially given that she grew up among sirens that aren’t known for being wilting flowers. With Filipe as the hero, I thought Jenny wasn’t much of a match for him until later on when she became more aggressive and outgoing. I did love her “ability” though. She’s like a reverse siren; instead of lulling men into compliancy she tends to kill anything that hears her voice. Poor thing!

Felipe cracked me up. He first appeared in A Demon and His Witch as the heroine’s pet hellcat. Who knew he had such a complex? He thinks he’s Lucifer’s gift to women and has no intention of settling down which makes his attraction to Jenny even more amusing. Especially when the reason why he isn’t affected by Jenny’s voice is revealed. So much for a perfect man!

Felipe and Jenny’s chemistry takes a while to show, there’s attraction of course but the heat is one sided for a good part of the beginning, Jenny being hesitant to act on any attraction. However, once she decided she wanted Felipe then I started to feel like Hell’s Kitty was an Eve Langlais book.

I’ve come to look forward to the snarky banter between characters that seems to be a given in this series and while there was some back and forth with Felipe and Jenny, it wasn’t as prominent or entertaining as earlier books. Still, Hell’s Kitty was an entertaining read and I looked forward to Lucifer and Gaia’s scenes as well as the bit of mystery that’s introduced at the end.

I’m still a fan of this series, and I really can’t wait to see what the author has in store for the next set of characters.

Hello, my name is Eve. I’m a stay at home mom who writes full time in between juggling my three kids, hubby, and housework, I write really raunchy stuff–usually with werewolves lol.

I am a bestselling Amazon author, ranking often in their top 100 romance authors. But I’m not just popular with Kindle readers. I was one of the top ten selling authors on AllRomance for 2013 and have had numerous of my books hit the top 100 books over all on Barnes & Nobles as well.

I’m writing romance, my way. I do have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. I like strong alpha males, naked chests and werewolves. Lots of werewolves. In fact, you’ll notice most of my multi partner stories revolve around great, big, overprotective Lycans who just want to please their woman. I am also extremely partial to aliens, you know the kind who abduct their woman and then drive them insane…with pleasure of course.

I love to write, and while I don’t always know what my mind is going to come up with next, I can promise it will be fun, probably humorous and most of all romantic, because I love a happily ever after.

Book Review: (ARC) Guardian Demon (The Guardians #8) by Meljean Brook

Guardian Demon (The Guardians #8)
by Meljean Brook

In this thrilling conclusion to the Guardian series, New York Times bestselling author Meljean Brook delivers another stunning page-turner, in which the fate of humanity depends upon a tortured warrior winning the trust—and heart—of the woman he wounded…

After a terrifying encounter in Hell destroys her trust in Michael, the Guardian’s powerful leader, former detective Andromeda Taylor is ready to call it quits as one of the angelic warriors and resume her human life again. But when demonic forces threaten her closest friends and she uncovers a terrifying plot devised by Lucifer, Taylor is thrown straight into Michael’s path again…

To defeat Lucifer, Michael needs every Guardian by his side—and he needs Taylor more than any other. The detective is the key to keeping his own demonic side at bay, and Michael will do anything to protect her and keep her close. And when Taylor manifests a deadly power, her Gift might tip the scales in the endless war between Heaven and Hell…or it might destroy them both with a single touch.

As the far as paranormal romances go, Guardian Demon is definitely a hit. As the last book in the Guardian series, it had a lot riding on its shoulders. From what I gather from chatting with fans of the series, Michael's story has been anxiously anticipated. Once again, I jumped in late. Having not read the previous books in the series I can say that towards the ending I was insanely confused about who was who, who had a mate and who didn't, who was good, who was evil, and who was pretending to be good in order to buy themselves time.

So no, I would not recommend reading this book as a standalone for one main reason, as much as I liked Guardian Demon, I felt like I missed out on the journey to this point, this final book in what is a well developed series. I missed getting to know the characters, Michael especially. He's such a dominant character with such a strong influence that it was almost impossible to see any one as his equal, let alone his mate. It was interesting to see author Meljean Brooks provide emotional growth to a character who has lived for thousands of years, has seen and done everything yet still had some very important things to learn. She managed to take a hardened warrior and make him vulnerable, giving Michael more depth and keeping him from becoming stale. As a centuries old warrior he is respected and feared by many, but he's never met a woman like Andromeda Taylor.

Taylor's had quite the wake up call. One day she's just a normal human detective and the next she's a warrior with a deadly ability. Still feeling betrayed by Michael, she's the only one who can reach and bring him out of Hell. As a Guardian she has some extra benefits that she didn't have as a human, but she doesn't have time to get used to her new status before hell literally breaks loose. If that's not enough for her to deal with, she's going to have to spend a lot of time around Michael and she can't decide if she hates him or not.

Michael and Taylor definitely set off some serious sparks but their relationship isn't at the core of the book. In fact, Guardian Demon is more about the events leading up to the battle with Lucifer but when the focus does shift to Michael and Taylor, look out because those scenes are scorching hot!

Now, in my opinion, a paranormal romance isn't a paranormal romance unless there's at least three violent, bloody scenes that make my eyes want to roll up into my head with how graphically they are depicted. Guardian Demon definitely qualifies as a paranormal romance. I thought my eyes were going to stay stuck up inside my head by the end of the book. There were bodies flying left and right and I loved every minute of the final battle scene!

With so much going on in Guardian Demon it can get a little confusing for the first time reader so make sure to start with book one in the series. If you're a longtime fan, then this book will not disappoint.

Book Review: Spartan Frost (Mythos Academy #4.5) by Jennifer Estep

Spartan Frost (Mythos Academy #4.5)
by Jennifer Estep

I'm Logan Quinn, the deadliest Spartan warrior at Mythos Academy. At least I was--until the day I almost killed Gwen Frost.

Professor Metis and Nickamedes say that I'm fine, that Loki and the Reapers don't have a hold on me anymore, but I can't risk it. I can't risk hurting Gwen again. So I'm leaving Mythos and going somewhere far, far away.

I know Gwen wonders what's happening to me, whether I'm safe. I can't tell her, but this is my story.

There's always that fear of being lost when you jump into the middle of a series and I have to admit I was pretty lost at the beginning of Spartan Frost. Not only did I NOT know who the characters were or what they could do, I didn't even know what had happened in the previous book that lead to Logan turning on Gwen. However, that didn't last long and I soon got the gist of what had happened.

After being taken over by the soul of Loki and almost killing Gwen, Logan decides to put space between them. Feeling guilty for what he did, and fearing it could happen again, he leaves Mythos Academy for New York. Unfortunately, trouble isn't far behind.

I normally avoid YA Novels because I just can't relate to younger characters, but I'm glad I gave Spartan Frost a chance. Author Jennifer Estep writes one hell of a YA story! Spartan Frost is a novella, basically it's part of the Mythos Acadamy series but told from Logan Quinn's point of view. Estep can take a cocky, confident teen and transition him into a brooding, angry and doubtful young man with ease that furthers the overall story-line and in general, makes Logan a far more interesting character. After all, no one likes characters who stay the same through six books.

Spartan Frost gave me a small, but potent sample of Jennifer Estep's talent and I'm surprised, but happy to say I will be adding the Mythos Academy series to my TBR.

Book Review: Dire Desires by Stephanie Tyler

Dire Desires (Eternal Wolf Clan #3) by Stephanie Tyler
Jinx is a Dire wolf without a pack. Kicked out of the house by his king, and living with a vampire named Jez, Jinx has been trying to undo the damage he unintentionally caused during the reign of the Dire ghost army, which unleashed some of Purgatory’s worst monsters on the world at large. But when he hears that an unshifted Were is being held in a psychiatric hospital, he immediately drops everything to help her.

Gillian Black has no idea what’s happening to her—and Jinx discovers that she’s not just any Were, but a Dire wolf from the original Green- land pack. He helps her escape and promises to keep her safe from the men—and the wolves—who are hunting her and to teach her everything about being a wolf.

He must also fight his feelings, wanting to claim her as his mate…at least until after he defeats the supernatural enemies that threaten all of them
.

Dire Desires is a bit complicated for anyone who didn't start at book one (this is book three). The first chapter itself led me to believe that Vice was the lead character when it is in fact, Jinx. Once I cleared up the subject of who was the hero I still had to figure out what had gone on in previous books that lead to the situation Jinx is in now.

There were many other little facts that I had to figure out, like who was mated and to whom? And the back stories of each character that appeared in previous books. Most of the information was scattered throughout the entire book so I had to wait to find out the answers to questions that were driving me crazy. There are a whole lot of characters in this book and it wasn't easy keeping them all straight, in fact, it was rather tiring at times.

However, Stephanie Tyler kept me interested by way of all the action scenes, great characters and humor. Jez the vampire in particular was highly entertaining and I found myself wanting to know more about him. Jinx is a steady hero, who has deep regrets and punishes himself constantly for what he's done in the past, but he is always ready to help his friends and family. He's loyal, stubborn, and self sacrificing. Gillian, the heroine is intelligent, tough, unpredictable and wild. All fitting for someone who didn't know they were a wolf.

Bottom line: I'll be adding the previous books to my TBR.

Dire Desires is a hard core paranormal romance, it's full of creatures that go bump in the night, bloody, graphic battles and sexy scenes, but before you read this one, do yourself a favor and read the series from the beginning, it will save you time, a bit of a headache and, I believe, will make Dire Desires much more enjoyable.
