Vampire on Aisle 6 #1 from Image Comics will be available at comic book shops on Wed., December 23

 

In Vampire on Aisle 6, Luka claims to be a vampire. He’s trapped in a mascot-themed superstore, the sun won’t set for another ten hours, and he’s just made his first kill.

After being bitten by a mysterious man at the end of an unfortunate week, Luka begins experiencing vampiric symptoms, including a newfound bloodlust, a shattered reflection, and an unwillingness to go outside. His life begins unravelling.

From the industry's most buzzed-about new voice in comics, multiple award-nominated Zoe Thorogood (It's Lonely At The Centre Of The Earth, Hack/Slash: Back To School, Joe Hill's Rain) teams with Joe Whiteford for the upcoming Vampire on Aisle 6. This all-new, three-issue paranormal miniseries was exclusively announced at IGN earlier this month and is set to launch in December from Image Comics.

Thorogood hit the scene with the critically acclaimed release of her semi-autobiographical novel The Impending Blindness of Billie Scott in the UK. Next, she worked with New York Times bestselling author Joe Hill (Locke & Key) to illustrate and adapt one of his popular prose short stories into a standalone graphic novel, Joe Hill’s Rain. From there, Thorogood’s profile skyrocketed when Image Comics published her graphic-nonfiction memoir, It’s Lonely at the Centre of the Earth. It’s Lonely at the Centre of the Earth sold out and went back to print multiple times within its first year of publication and went on to sell an astounding 100K copies across formats. Thorogood’s instant breakout success caught the attention of the Eisner Awards committee and she was nominated for five Eisner Awards in 2023, making her the most-nominated creator that year. She went on to win the prestigious Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer Award and solidified her status as “one-to-watch” in the industry.

One-shot horror comic: The Snail from Image Comics

I've always been a fan of comic horror shorts. Creepshow is right up there with Tales from the Crypt. The cover of Super Creepshow #1 caught my eye immediatley. It's simple but powerful and having the punny Creep striking a superhero pose...

If you want to create superhero-horror stories, you should get artists and writers who create superhero comics. Regular Creepshow comics are 32 pages, but Super Creepshow is 40 pages, allowing the writers to give their characters depth and create emotional horror alongside the usual situational horror in the stories.

Using familiar superhero tropes, the writers send their heroes down a darker path of destruction, made more awful because had no control over their fate. The artists did a fantastic job of conveying the emotional horror, along with the gore we all expect, in a Creepshow comic.

I enjoyed this issue. Thanks for providing a Halloween-worthy issue.
