PNR Author Efthalia: Ewe won't believe this... + giveaway

Ewe won’t believe this… A few years ago, I was attending the Romance Writers of Australia Conference and needed shoes, because we always need new shoes. So, I found a pair that was comfy and decided to buy them in two different colors. That evening when hubby came home and was unwinding on the couch, I put on one of each color, then came out and asked him what he thought of the my new acquisition. He took one look at my shoe clad feet then looked up at me, “Couldn’t you have at least bought them in the same color?”

I was on the floor laughing. When I managed to control the laughter, I told him that I bought two pairs of the same shoes in different colors. Mind you I had said that I bought two pairs of shoes before I said, “I’ll show you my new shoes.” For fun I wrote to New Idea, a women’s magazine in Australia that has a section for funny stories. I won $25 for that entry. It was just one of those moments.

And with absent gods causing devastating natural disasters, he must trust her father, Ares, to keep her safe.

With every mortal sphere at risk, Carissa races to retrieve a magical codex believed to hold the key to defeating her enemy. And when Xen discovers the true source of the threat, saving both humans and gods will put his own immortality in jeopardy.

In between battling Titans, gods, missing keys, and baklava can Carissa and Xen summon the power to conquer the sinister foe and return to each other’s arms?

Excerpt:
Xen’s personal gymnasium had been designed to take the brunt of rough exercise. His Phi Athanatoi, a warrior group of vampires and werewolves who protected mankind, usually trained there. Tonight, though, this space belonged to Carissa and her father - Ares. She rubbed her ass for the twentieth time, the exact number of times she’d been thrown in their kung fu practice. Each time she hit the mat like a piece of tangled spaghetti. Her father had appeared when they returned from her visit with her yiayia. Perfect timing or coincidence? She couldn’t decide. She had yet to fill in her father on what she had discussed with Yiayia. It would have to wait until after they finished his so-called test of her ability to fight and use her power of compulsion. Yes, she had power but she had no idea how to control it.

“Focus, kori mou.” Ares brushed a few sweaty locks from his forehead.

“It’s a little tough to do that if you are in the air every minute.” She pushed up to her elbows from her current starfish landing. Her energy would be depleted soon; her fuel gauge pointed to empty.

“Your mind controls the power.” Ares held out his hand. Her fingers closed around his. A flow of energy danced between them. Recognition. Daughter to Father.

“I thought you said when you returned, we’d be paying Olympus a visit.”

“I need to know that you can call forth your power in a crisis situation.” He pulled her up to her feet. “You’ll be walking into the lion’s den. All they will see is a tasty morsel.”

“How is tossing me around like pasta training me?”

“Now, use your power of compulsion.” His hands darted to her neck, “Stop me.” He commanded, his fingers tightening, tightening, tightening around her throat.

Time froze, expanded, flipped to a moment in a warehouse where a demon had his claws around her throat. Her life’s essence slowly extinguishing. Death had been close. Now it was her father’s hold that choked her.

She spotted Kane, Xen’s trusted right-hand man and wolf, holding Xen back. A roar cracked and vibrated through the air. She had to summon her power.

Her gaze collided with her father’s. In the depth of his chocolate-colored eyes, she saw flares of fire. Fire spiked and tingled through her body. Somewhere in a deep chamber of her mind, she took control. “Release me.” The words a soft command.

His grip loosened, his hands falling away.

She coughed to stabilize her breathing. The air around her shifted, and Xen had her in his arms before she could swallow her next bit of air.

“Tell me why I shouldn’t pierce my xiphos through your heart, Ares?”

“Relax, vampire. I wasn’t going to harm my daughter.”

“Your practice sessions leave my woman battered and bruised every time.” Xen inspected Carissa’s throat. “I’ve been patient enough with all your methods. It ends here. There will be no more.”

“Xen, it’s okay. I’m okay.” Carissa tried to defuse the argument between god and immortal before it got messy.

“My daughter is right. If you weren’t in such a fit of rage, you would have seen that she compelled me to stop with a whisper.

“Whether she stopped you or not, that was going too far.” He removed his hands from around Carissa and closed the distance to Ares in two strides.

Carissa watched the nose to nose scene in slow-mo. She could see only one outcome in this - Xen hurt.

Efthalia Guest Post: Dinner with an Alpha Male (Phantasma book tour)

Today we have a different kind of Alpha Male Dinner post. Author Efthalia is sharing a deleted dinner scene between her sexy alpha male Xen Lyson (Immortal Warrior) and the divine Carissa Alkippes... *hands you a napkin, you're gonna need it*
This is part of a deleted and un-edited scene from Phantasma. Xen and Carissa go out to dinner and during the three course meal, it (coughs, clears throat) gets a little steamy (grin). Dessert proves to be too much of a temptation for Xen.

Set up: Cypress Charleston SC
Time: Evening
Occasion: Dinner
She didn’t know whether she’d survive the last course of dinner, the Tahitian Vanilla Cream Brulee had sounded too good to pass up.

“These look divine.” She looked down at her dessert plate then glanced over at Xen’s choice, Molten Chocolate Cake. Her tongue darted out and ran across her top lip.

“I can think of other divine things.” The corners of his mouth curved into a devastating grin. His gaze was anchored on hers when he spoke.

She had a hunch those divine things resembled the shower they shared a few hours ago. She opted to focus on the dessert and not give in to the desire that was pooling between her legs.

Her fingers closed around the spoon and tightened. The itch to run her hands all over his hard body ceased, for now. She lifted the first spoonful of her dessert to her mouth. Decadent flavors burst on her tongue. A pleasurable moan escaped her lips. Again she dug into the soft brulee and the second sampling drew out a longer moan. Before the spoon could reach her lips a third time she was flung backwards in her chair and suspended in mid-air.

Xen’s lips covered hers, deep, rough and demanding. He broke the kiss then in a smoky voice spoke in her ear. His hot low breath sent chills up and down her spine.

“I warned you koukla that if you keep making those sounds, I’ll have no choice but to do wicked things to you in this chair on the table and on the floor.” He righted her position and sat back down in his chair.

Her heart raced, that devastating kiss left her weak, needy and breathless. A rush ran through her, flaming her body and empowering her in the knowledge that she had succeeded in spurring Xen’s lust. It amplified her desire for him, but she’d be the one that would be putty in his hands.

“By the way, your dessert tastes delicious, koukla.”

One night’s transgression. A love unveiled. The in-escapable outcome of passion and vengeance.

Carissa Alkippes is a daughter of a god but she doesn’t know it. As a cop she’s seen her fair share of bad but nothing prepared her for the horror of the world she has been plunged into.

Xen Lyson is the head of the Phi Athanatoi, a group of immortals who have been protecting man for over 2,000 years from the Kakodiamones - demons who want nothing more than to feast on humanity.

Thrown face to face with Xen during a skirmish with the demons, Carissa becomes a pawn in a deadly game of a demi-god who seeks godly power.

Excerpt from Chapter Two

Xen Lyson’s fingers moved to the pulse point of the woman lying at his feet. Skata! He swore internally. He should have guessed she’d come back for her partner. He’d have to leave her.

Take her. He jerked at the sudden possessiveness that demanded he acquire ownership. She’s yours.

His hand moved to her hair as he pushed the strands back from her face. The pads of his fingers deliberately caressed her cheek. His nostrils flared when the scent of her exotic blood hit his nose. He examined her without delay. A large bump and cut graced the back of her skull. He lifted his fingers to his mouth and tasted her blood. Ambrosia danced over his tongue and warmth spread through every cell in his body.

Dikia mou... she’s mine.
“Xen, we should move.” Kane Hart, his right hand man, brought him out of his strange musings and sudden infatuation. “Bring the truck. Get the clean team. Stack the demon bodies.”

His brow creased in contemplation at what would be the best course of action for the female and her partner. Taking her would risk exposing her to his world. He looked over her body again. Take her. He wanted to give in and do as his mind bid. “Leave these two untouched.”

As the leader of the Phi Athanatoi, an ancient specialist group of vampires and werewolves, he was sworn to protect humankind. Right now, leaving the woman and her wounded partner would be an act of protecting them from the Kakodiamones, the demons that walked amongst man. Bringing them into his world would only paint them as moving targets.

He stood and sheathed his double-edged xiphos. His acute senses picked up the strong smell of demons. Before he could turn, one descended upon him, blade in hand. He braced himself. The impact was inescapable. Slamming into his back, the demon knocked him forward.

“Vlaka!” Xen yelled.
He found his footing quickly, speed and skill on his side. Reaching for his sword, he readied himself for combat. The demon changed tactics when he saw Xen’s weapon. He stopped on the spot, trying to avoid his opponent’s blade.

Xen sneered and bore his fangs at the demon. A threat—one other creatures would acknowledge as to who held the power. The demon stood expressionless.

“Well, come and get me.” Xen coaxed. The demon didn’t move.

Statues...thicker than Greek marble. Xen didn’t need an invitation. His blade hissed through the air, cutting through the demon’s neck and spinal cord, severing his existence. Blood splattered on the already sticky floor. The head thudded on the ground while the body teetered for a second before it too slumped to the concrete.

Kane laid his boot into the beast. “Nice cut, Xen. The bastard didn’t have enough time to blink.”
The lykos let out a growl of satisfaction, but then his demeanor changed, his nostrils expanded at the scent of another demon headed in their direction. He turned in time and swung his double swords, severing the demon’s head, blood gushing over him.

“Damn! I just bought this jacket.” He gave the headless body a kick to let out his frustration. The body flew through the air and landed with a thud when it hit the wall on their right. “Dumbass! When will you demons get it?”

Xen smirked. His friend excelled at the combination of lethal and loyal.
