Series Review: The MacLomain Series by Sky Purington + except + giveaway

The MacLomain Series Review
by Sky Purington

Plots from The MacLomain Series
This is a busy year for my medieval MacLomain chieftains. They're all busy falling in love with women scattered across the centuries. The King's Druidess, is a short story that sets the stage for the MacLomain novel series. Based in fifth century Ireland, it will paint the magical picture of how it all began. Then it's on to thirteenth century Scotland and colonial period New Hampshire in Fate's Monolith. Once you reach Destiny's Denial you'll continue on with the medieval MacLomains but travel this time to present day New Hampshire. When alas you've made it to Sylvan Mist, the grand finale, you'll travel not only to two different time periods, but three! It's time to re-visit all of those characters you've come to know and love in not only colonial and present day New Hampshire, but medieval Scotland.

Sky Purington had a new book that was getting to released called Rise of a Viking which caught my attention. The description spoke of prophesy, Vikings, Norse Mythology and dragon blood and I thought I have to check out this book! From there I found that there was a whole series to go along with it. So I started at the beginning, MacLomain Series, Early Years, which was free on Kindle Unlimited. I am so glad to say that I do not regret my decision to research the reading order and sets of books that this series offers! Each book is in some way tied to another story that you will read. You may not realize something in the story is of importance until you come across what it actually meant in another book. I love these type of stories. It gives me a way to connect to the characters, settings, time line and gives me a real visualization of what the author wrote.

The next set of books in the series following the Early Years was The MacLomain Series which is a 4 book series that is filled with time travel, magic and incredible passion and romance. I have to say I love books about Scotland and time travel, yes I am an Outlander fan, but to be fair I had read all the books and loved it long before it became a TV show. I could really envision Purington’s books becoming a TV show as well. Each set of main characters in Purington’s books are incredible. Well written with attention to detail you feel like you are a fly on the wall watching as each scene unfolds. I would highly recommend this fantastic series.

Excerpt from Rise of a Viking (The MacLomain Series: Viking Ancestors Kin book 1)
Everyone said their goodnights as she climbed the stairs. Thankfully, there was a deck off her bedroom. One she utilized despite the storm. Elbows braced on the railing, she stared at the tree, her thoughts still on Heidrek. Some might say he haunted her, but she didn’t quite look at it like that. Not when he was trying to keep her away.

Not when he was somehow trying to protect her and her family.

She thought of those that might be his family. Lightning crisscrossed the sky, illuminating the choppy ocean. Kol was a relative. She closed her eyes and focused on the name and let it lead her to others. Kol’s brothers. Naðr Véurr…a king. Raknar. All the men who had ended up with Amber’s sisters. Her thoughts chased them until they focused on a young blond boy with a stutter and deep sadness. He grew, changed, became a man.

Heidrek.

Her eyes snapped open, and she focused on the tree again. He had become something unexpected. What he became changed everything. It would make him a king.

The king.

Someone so important that it drew attention. She blinked and shook her head as thunder crashed and the rain fell harder. No, he drew attention by his actions. He brought trouble to his people…to his family.

That’s what he had been trying to tell her all along.

Stay away.

Stay safe.

And she would. He needed to know that.

Cybil didn’t realize what she was doing until she was down the stairs off her deck and heading for the tree. The wind was strong, and the rain cold but nothing touched her. She needed to be beneath the ash.

She needed to understand.

Hands braced against the cool bark, she stared up but saw nothing beyond flashes of lightning. Yet she felt something. A slight vibration that had nothing to do with the endless thunder. Her eyes dropped to her feet. To the root.

The Yggdrasill glowed again.

“Stay away,” whispered close to her ear.

Her eyes shot to the right, and her breath caught.

There he was. Gorgeous. Masculine. Intense.

Yet ghostly.

At least a foot taller than her, he had dirty blond hair, stubble on his strong jaw and the same, piercing blue eyes she had seen in the photo. He wore a red tunic and brown fur over his broad shoulders.

Her eyes fell to the bear pendant hanging around his neck. “You use that to connect us and protect me. Does that mean keeping me and my family from traveling to you and yours?” she whispered as she shook her head and met his eyes again. “Because it won’t. It isn’t working.”

He started to talk but stopped, confusion in his eyes. “It should only connect us. Protect you. Nothing more…” His eyes roamed her face before they went to the house. “Please. You must stay away for the safety of your kin.”

Cybil was caught off guard by the flicker of desire in his eyes. More so, by her sharp response to it. She frowned and shook her head. “I’m trying.” She tried to tear her gaze from his but couldn’t. “Tell me what to do.”

“Run from here. Get away from this tree.” She sensed that he wanted to reach out but didn’t. “If you stay, I cannot stop this.”

“But you led me here,” she whispered, desperate to understand. “Didn’t you?”

His eyes roamed her face again or at least she thought they did as he started to fragment. “I…do not know.”

“Heidrek?”

She sensed his surprise at the use of his name. But then she was equally shocked when he whispered hers before vanishing altogether.

Chieftain Logan MacLomain

Recipe created by Sky Purington
Quest of a Scottish Warrior (The MacLomain Series: Later Years, Book 1)

Ingredients:
* A six-foot-five, Highland wizard
* Equal portions of Unbreakable Honor, Avid Loyalty, and Incomparable Leadership Skills
* Icy pale blue eyes, sensual lips, broad shoulders, slightly scarred chiseled muscles
* Master with bows & arrows, broadswords and daggers

Seasoning:
* Just enough humor
* Sinfully magical talents
* Heart-stopping chivalry
* A deep brogue

After tossing the ingredients well, kneed in the following:
* A methodical mind
* Unwavering determination
* A lifetime of training in warfare
* A dash of bitter vengeance

Turn heat to HIGH and indulge in a shot of Scottish whisky.

Before serving this adventurous dish, sprinkle heavily with a mixture of time travel and unexpected romance.

Be prepared for an explosion of flavor that causes visions of medieval castles and sexy men in kilts. Expect to hear the whisper of a knee-weakening brogue and the haunting call of the distant past. CAUTION: If the room starts to spin and you hear the lilt of a bagpipe on the wind, it’s highly likely you’ve traveled back to the thirteenth century. Och, lass, all ye can do now is hold on tight as yer swept up into the arms of a Scottish warrior.

Taste Test

Cassie nodded and as they’d done the past couple of nights, they settled into comfortable conversation. She was a pleasure to chat with. Though humble, she possessed a sharp wit. He suspected had she pursued any of her college majors, she would have excelled.

Yet the more he got to know her the more he sensed she lived her life a certain way…as if she knew its outcome already. Almost like someone planning to move to another country and preparing themselves for a different language and customs. Eventually, he intended to find out exactly what she was getting ready for. Whatever it was, it had her purposely changing subjects on a somewhat regular basis.

As he figured she would, Cassie eventually said, “Why are we eating separately from everyone tonight?”

Though tempted to say it was unintentional, he would be lying. The truth was he wanted her all to himself. “‘Twas a trying experience earlier. I thought you might want some privacy to relax.”

She arched her brow and offered a lopsided grin. “Yet you’re here.”

“Well, you cannae be alone in these woods, lass.” He polished off his meat and leaned back on his hands so that his shoulder was almost against hers. Voice lowered, he said, “And I’ll admit to wanting to spend some time alone with you. ‘Tis a luxury I rarely get.”

“Ah.” This time he didn’t have to touch her to enjoy her becoming blush. His eyes dropped to her mouth when she licked her lips. He had never wanted to taste a lass so much in his life. When she cleared her throat, his eyes slowly returned to hers.

“You should probably stop looking at me like that,” she said.

“Like what?”

“Like we’re here alone for another reason altogether.”

“Aye,” he murmured, caught by how the firelight reflecting off the shrubbery behind her seemed to magnify the pale green in her eyes. Unable to stop himself, he brushed his thumb down her delicate jawline, eager for far more contact. “May I kiss you, lass.”

Her eyes widened slightly. “W-what?”

“Kiss you.” He ran the pad of his thumb over her lower lip and leaned even closer. “I’ve wanted to do it since I pulled you onto my horse that first day.”

“Oh,” she whispered, not shying away.

Wrapping his hand in her hair, he didn’t kiss her right away but brought his lips close to her ear and murmured, “I’ve never seen such a bonnie lass.” He flicked his tongue beneath her dainty earlobe, relishing her quiver. “I’ve never wanted to touch and taste a lass so much that I cannae think straight.”

“Oh,” she whispered again, her head tilting to give him more access. God, she tasted warm and sweet and so bloody soft. He gently peppered kisses along her jaw, desperate to reach her lips but equally eager to sample everything along the way. Sharp arousal speared him when her breath hitched and she squeezed her thighs together. Hell, he had known the lass less than a week and he’d already imagined a hundred different ways he wanted to make love to her.

At last, his lips hovered over hers, savoring the heat of her breath, the ravenous anticipation before he finally…

“Och, m’laird, ye should have gotten to that sooner,” Machara quipped as she came around the corner.

Cassie pulled back sharply and Logan scowled as he redirected his attention to his intrusive cousin. “What is it?”

Viking Heart (The MacLomain Series: Viking Ancestors, Book 3)

* A six-foot-seven, shapeshifting Viking
* Equal portions of Lust, Berserker, and Humor
* Sinfully dark eyes, a deep sensual laugh, broad shoulders, chiseled muscles
* Skills with swords, battle axes, and daggers

Seasoning:
* Just enough arrogance

* A dash of ruthlessness

After tossing the ingredients well, melt in the following:

* Unlimited sexual talent
* Desire to please a woman
* Alpha personality
* Fiercely protective

Turn heat to HIGH and prepare yourself for oral ecstasy with a chilled shot of Scandinavian Aquavit.

Prior to serving this carnal dish, cross-drizzle some scrumptious timeless romance with fated soulmates.

This meal is best enjoyed in a romantic setting with Trevor Morris’s, Vikings soundtrack playing in the background. Expect a thundering heart, shallow breathing, and quite possibly the inability to stand for several hours afterward. WARNING: If you experience a dimming of vision, understand that you’re undergoing a lusty look into the distant past and by the end of the book you may or may not return to the present.

Taste Test:

After receiving another horn of ale, Kol leaned back and eyed Amber with amusement as she stopped in front of the men playing bodhran drums. Unlike her sisters, she seemed to be embracing their society right away or so said the slow sway of her hips. Fortunately, the fires kept it warm enough that she’d removed her cloak, giving him and every other man a pleasurable view of her backside.

And just like him, there was nothing but lust in their eyes.

He didn’t recognize the low growl in his chest and had no idea he was heading in her direction until he was halfway there. Her sisters might be a solid wall of protection around Amber but far too many men were contemplating a way past them. Even with the potential wrath of the king and Raknar coming down on them, several clearly thought the loot well worth the inevitable punishment.

She must have said something about the instrument because Kol had nearly reached Amber when one of the men stopped playing his drum and handed it to her. Red dragon haze skirted the corners of his vision when the musician wrapped his arms around her from behind. Though he was only showing her how to use the drum, Kol also knew he was just as aroused as the men now forming a circle around her.

A dagger at the ready, he stopped beside her sisters and glared at any man willing to meet his eyes…which were few. No, they weren’t just lusting but downright enchanted by Amber. Even his eyes were snagged from protecting her when warm laughter bubbled up from her chest. She tossed her hair over a shoulder and winked at the man behind her. Arms crossed over his chest, Kol was impressed with how smoothly she kept the musician from pressing too close while simultaneously making him feel like the world revolved around him.

He had never seen anything quite like it.

From a woman that is.

Hel, Amber maneuvered a man nearly as well as Kol maneuvered a woman.

And that’s precisely what they did. Made the opposite sex feel special until they tired and moved on to the next. But Kol would bet that like him, she rarely left a man lacking. If anything, she left them happier than they were prior.

“I knew it wouldn’t take her long to make herself at home,” Megan murmured and bumped shoulders with him. “Put away the dagger, Champ. She’ll be all right.”

“I’m sure she will.” But he didn’t put away the dagger. Better that his fellowmen see his intentions…or at least that she was under his protection. Yet even as he tried to keep his attention on the bastards around her, he soon became as enamored as the rest when she held the crossbar beneath with expertise and started playing the drum. She had a way of moving her hand in such a way that the sound made the listener feel the passion within her.

Incredible passion.

Blatant sensuality.

The woman possessed a natural eroticism that simmered beneath the surface of every move she made. Kol watched the speed and roll of her hand, imagining that same hand playing his body with as much talent and hunger. Because there was a definite hunger in the sound she created. One that originated in the depths of her soul. A soul that felt things far more deeply than most.

Though Kol narrowed his eyes at the man behind her, he didn’t need to. Amber was handling him perfectly as she pulled away and nodded her thanks. Then her eyes met the women playing the pipes and she offered a dazzling smile as they caught her beat.

Captivated, he couldn’t decide which part of her he wanted to eye more. Her animated face, the way her hand deftly worked the instrument or the sway of her lovely hips as she moved in synchronization to the beat she created.
