The only catch is she must finish it and not die. Hadley has been training like crazy to be ready for the gauntlet, but true to Hadley fashion, there always has to be a few bumps in the road. When one of her old friends is kidnapped, Hadley has to make some major decisions and either give up on her dreams or risk her friend’s life.

Hadley is one of my favorite characters in the world of Hailey Edward’s books. She has overcome major life mistakes, made new friends, she is mated, and has created a family amongst all of them, and still she feels like she needs to make amends which shows she cares about those around her, making her an excellent heroine.

The witches are filling up the streets of Atlanta in a fight to take back someone that they believe is theirs and to take over Atlanta at the same time. The shifters are patrolling the streets and one thing after another keeps popping up causing Hadley to do what must be done to protect her city and to protect all those that she loves. On top of it all, portals to Faerie keep popping up all over town and that’s a problem in itself.

Hadley is the type of character that you can’t help but root for. She is constantly trying to atone for her past life and has yet to realize that those around her feel that she has already changed to the person she wants to be. “I Am Enough” is a mantra that Hadley keeps repeating over and over to herself hoping that one day it would be true.

Hadley is still trying to retrieve seven beating hearts from the witch coven to fulfill a deal she made with a nasty fae which isn’t the easiest task in the world, not to mention Hadley needs to figure out what the fae wants the hearts. What Hadley uncovers makes her uneasy, and she hopes that she can find a way to fulfill the deal without handing over the keys to more trouble. On top of it all, Boaz and Addie are coming to visit her, and she’s excited but nervous about the visit but also dreads the company they will be bringing with them.

Hadley has done an excellent job at redeeming herself, and no matter how terrible she is treated by some who know who she really is, she keeps her head held high and continues to do her job, which at the moment is to stop the magical fires that keep popping up all over the city.

Some major twists in book 4 of the Potentate of Atlanta shocked and left me speechless!

Now Hadley’s fate rests in Midas’s hands, and all she can do is hope the future she glimpsed for them doesn’t slip through his fingers.

A new drug has hit the streets in Atlanta targeting paranormal citizens and for some it’s deadly. Hadley starts searching for the dealer at clubs when a fae offers her something she needs if she wants to find those responsible for this deadly new drug. When you make a deal with a fae, you must think about the details of the deal so as not to give something more than you’re willing to give but Hadley doesn’t care and the price the fae demands might cost her Midas forever.

The parallels between Hadley and Midas’s pasts are similar, causing them both to be stubborn and feel they deserve everything they get, whether it’s good or bad. Both of them have decided that they deserve bad karma but yet they both are always trying to atone for their pasts.

Bishop is a character that is multifaceted with so many secrets; it is hard to keep track. One thing is for sure he has Hadley’s back and will help her fulfill the deal that she struck with Natisha.

Hadley has huge time gaps in her memory and keeps waking in strange places and she has no idea why. Is Ambrose taking over when her defenses are weak in sleep? Is another monster trying to control her? These are all questions she needs to answer if she wants to keep being the apprentice for the potentate of Atlanta.

Midas and Hadley are both have extremely strong personalities making the chemistry between them explosive. Midas has a troubled past that he doesn’t want Hadley to know about, so he tries to stay far from her, but his inner beast has other thoughts when it comes to Hadley. Hadley has secrets that absolutely need to stay hidden but when she’s around Midas a small spark of hope forms that maybe, just maybe she could share her dark past with him.

Shadow of Doubt, the first book in The Potentate of Atlanta series is a spin-off from The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy series that starts off with Amelie, who is now Hadley Whitaker, trying to find her footing as the potential next potentate in Atlanta. She is trying to keep her new identify straight and keep her shadow, Ambrose, under control as well as secret. Her new case puts her squarely in the path of Midas Kinase, the beta of the gwyllgi pack in Atlanta, who has the power to reveal her secrets. Midas is drawn to Hadley in ways he cannot understand and is trying is hardest to avoid her at all costs. Ford has been assigned to be the pack liaison with Hadley, but he also has his eyes set on her as well.

Once again Edwards does not disappoint. I was crushed when the last series ended, but this one keeps the magic alive and lets us dive deeper into some old favorites as well as new characters. A paranormal is killing different women from different factions in the area and the mystery surrounding it is intriguing and full of surprises. This series will be another great one by Edwards.
