A zombie outbreak has fallen upon the land in Jane Austen's classic tale of the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19th century England. Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James) is a master of martial arts and weaponry and the handsome Mr. Darcy (Sam Reilly) is a fierce zombie killer, yet the epitome of upper class prejudice. As the zombie outbreak intensifies, they must swallow their pride and join forces on the blood-soaked battlefield.
I don't think I've ever read Pride and Prejudice (I know!), just not my cup of tea, but I did read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies a long time ago. I remember liking it, but not loving it. The trailer just looked too good to not give the movie a go.
What a lot of freaking fun this movie was! Regency makes me throw up in my mouth a little, but this one had me cheering for the Bennett sisters and swooning over Col. Darcy. It was a great combination of action, romance and zombie killing mayhem. Perfect Valentine's Day movie.
The costumes were beautiful and Col. Darcy wore a sexy, black, long leather coat. The violence and gore are just this side of PG-13. Heads explode, and appendages are hacked off, but you don't really see a lot of blood. Matter of fact, the Bennett sisters plow through a ball room of zombies and don't get a speck on their beautiful gowns.
This is a must see if you like the trailer, you pretty much get what you see. I prefer seeing this one on the big screen...did I mention Col. Darcy?

Thanks for reviewing this movie. The trailer looked SO good, but I was afraid of being disappointed (still haven't recovered from Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter).
ReplyDeletethis is much better than Lincoln. This one is a bit campy and knows it.
DeleteI have to admit to mixed feelings on this one! I ADORE Pride and Prejudice, the book, the 6 hour movie, and the 2 hour movie, it's all amazeballs to me. And I love zombies. But the movie for me was like ehhhhh... mostly because I couldn't wrap my brain around the fact that it's more of a spoof of P&P than a re-telling of it. They would quote, word for word, some of the most famous lines from the book, but they did it in a way that was humorous instead of dramatic. So I think if you're a Pride and Prejudice fan, go into the movie with an open mind knowing that it's more for a humorous take on Pride and Prejudice with zombie killing thrown in, than an actual attempt at putting a new spin on the storyline. I definitely want to see it again because I did enjoy the characters and the acting was awesome! I have a sneaky suspicion I'll like it much more the second time around since I know what to expect!
ReplyDeleteI knew it was going to be campy and that is what I loved about it . I loved the fight Lizzy and Darcy had in the sitting room!
