Interview: Author Sabrina York + giveaway

Hello Sabrina and welcome to I Smell Sheep…grab a moonpie some Kool-Aid and weapon of your choice.

Sharon: Tell us about Bedding the Highlander, for our readers who might not know about it (but certainly want to learn how to).

Sabrina: I am so excited about this book! It combines everything I love. Highlander? Check! Spunky red-headed heroine? Check! A woman who will do anything to escape from an unwanted marriage (including seduce her groom’s brother)? Check! It’s sexy, snarky, fun and full of action.

Beyond all that, I love the Bookshots concept of a hot, fast read you can devour in one sitting. I am busy (and have ADD) and I think a lot of readers are in the same boat. Bookshots give us all the fun of a full length novel in a fabulous compact package!
Sharon: This book is part of the James Patterson Book Shot Flames series…what’s that about and how did you end up writing one?
Sabrina: Bookshots come in many genres. Patterson has done a great job of reaching out to all readers. But the Flames line really speaks to my wheelhouse. Hot and sexy romance.

I feel extraordinarily grateful to have had this chance, which came to me through my agent. He asked for a proposal and I developed a few ideas. Bedding the Highlander was the one they chose, but it’s been such an amazing experience working with James and editor Laura Fazio, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Sharon: I took a look at your list of 40+ books you’ve written…you have cowboys, SEALS, kilted warriors, Dukes, a Djinn, a warlock, a pool boy, and various other men…*fans self*. I think I’d go with a warlock… Which type is your fantasy lover?
Sabrina: Hot heroes are my bread and butter. I love that I get to spend nearly every day with them. But my fantasy lover is actually the man I married. He’s a wonderful companion, an excellent father and a faithful and reliable husband. He’s the man who stood by me through good and bad, who supported me when I had this crazy idea of quitting my (government) job and writing full time.

I wouldn’t be who I am without him.

Besides, when I fantasize, it’s usually about cheesecake! ;)

Sharon: Your bio is devoid of any facts I can use against you! So I’m gonna have to dig and ask some uncomfortable questions…how many pillows do you sleep with?
Sabrina: Dang it. You got me!!!! I am a total pillow hog. My absolute favorite is my boyfriend Bob. He is a full length body pillow that I wrap myself around and cuddle with all night. I would cuddle with my hubby, but he’s too warm and snores, so Bob steps in. As I ignored my alarm this very morning, I remember thinking how much I love Bob. Everyone should have a full body pillow boyfriend. I sincerely believe this.

Sharon: Do you hoard collect anything or have a hobby
Sabrina: I cannot lie, I hoard books. I just CANNOT let them go. I especially like bizarre research books like the Secret Lives of Insects (so kinky!) and anything historical. I am fascinated with history.

I’ve also been a craft dilettante, which means I avidly embrace a craft for a month or so and then move on. I’ve done stained glass, fused glass, quilting, beading, rubber stamping, painting, ceramics and more. Beyond that, I love watching movies over and over and over again.

Sharon: Did you bring a highlander with you? *peeks behind Sabrina…the rest of the Sheep staff poke heads into room* and can we touch him?
Sabrina: Go for it!

Sharon: If you could own any piece of art in the world, which would it be?
Sabrina: Sharon, we live in an age where that is absolutely possible! The walls of my home are decorated with a Picasso, a Monet, an Alma-Tadema, a Maxfield Parish, Klimt’s Tannenwald and Leighton’s Flaming June (to name a few). Do I mind that they are all prints and not originals?

Not in the slightest.

I am also gloriously thrilled to be living in a time where I can enjoy Beethoven without having to bring an entire orchestra into my living room! Such glory was once reserved for the super-rich. Those of us who delight in the arts, rejoice!

Sharon: What was one of your favorite toys as a child (or if you have children, their favorite toy)?
Sabrina: Oh, you had to go and bring up Blankey, didn’t you? I still need therapy over that one. Okay. Apparently, as a small child, I became very attached to my blanket (a Stewart tartan, as it happens). When a babysitter threw him into the washer and he shrank, he became my constant companion (not unlike the aforementioned Bob). As time went on, Blankey became tattered and worn, but I refused to give him up.

Imagine my HORROR when I found him one day in the garbage.

Egads.

Naturally, I rescued him.

To my mother’s chagrin.

In fact, between them, my mother and my older sister set out on an unrelenting campaign to wrest Blankey from my grasp because they wanted me to be, and I quote, “normal.”

Alas, at long last, they succeeded.

I have never recovered.

Sharon: What is your favorite scent?
Sabrina: Baking bread. Mmmmmm.

Rapid Fire (pew-pew)

Sharon: Coke or Pepsi?
Sabrina: I’m difficult. I like Vernors (which is a kind of ginger soda) I have to ask my grocery store to stock it.

Sharon: Sword or Rapier?
SabrinaSword, I think. Much manlier than an épée, wouldn’t you say?

Sharon: Blonde or Brunette?
SabrinaWell, if you mean me, I am totally a blonde. That’s my story and I am sticking to it. If you mean my preference in men, tall and dark is my sweet spot!

Sharon: Soft and chewy or Hard and crunchy?
SabrinaI have always loved crunchy! Crunchy and cinnamon flavored is even better!

Sharon: Tickle your feet or Tickle your sides?
SabrinaOr don’t tickle at all?

Sharon: Skydive or Scuba dive?
SabrinaGHAAA. I am not adventurous enough for either, but since I love water, I will say…snorkeling.

Sharon: Captain America or Deadpool?
SabrinaTotes Deadpool.
