Mojo Queen Virtual Book Tour + Giveaway

Mojo Queen by Sonya Clark

Roxanne Mathis isn't like everyone else. Not only can she see auras and spectral entities, she can mix herbs and roots for spells to do good or ill. She can even light a candle without the benefit of a match. But when she’s hired to exorcise a demon from a young girl, she discovers the limits of her powers.

With her vampire cousin at her side and a sexy sorcerer chasing her on the rebound, Roxie sets out to send that evil entity back to where she came from.

Nothing is as it seems and Roxie’s in over her head. It’s not going to be enough for her to just be a paranormal investigator and old school root worker – to defeat this demon, she’s going to have to be the Mojo Queen

Wow. I loved this book! The heroine, Roxie, is everything I look for in a female character. She is smart, compassionate and impulsive with a little vulnerability. And it wouldn’t be a true PNR without the sarcasm . Clark nailed this one beautifully. Roxie is a witty kind of sarcastic. I would love to hang with her and talk magic (and the fact that she keeps the company of a totally hot vampire and a mysterious and powerful sorcerer has nothing to do with it! More on them later ;) Roxie loves books and makes lots of Nerd references. I wanted to show some passages of just how witty she is, but I would be quoting most of the book!

I don’t know how much of the magic references in the book were researched and based on fact or how much was from her imagination, but Clark had me believing it all. Roxie was born with magical abilities, but had to hide it from her family because it wasn’t acceptable behavior in their religious home. She had some training in Voodoo magic and knows there is more to her powers, but she has been hesitant to explore them. She can see auras and ghosts and has been able to squeak out a living performing exorcisms with her partner Daniel.

Now we will talk about the men in the story . Daniel is a vampire and very distant relative of Roxie’s. Since her family won’t have anything to do with her (because of her lifestyle) he is all Roxie has. The cool thing is there is no romantic relationship between them (I know, how weird in a PNR!). I love Daniel. He is quirky, protective and smooth, but there is a hint of danger just below the surface. He has a story that needs to be told and I hope eventually Clark will give it to us.

Blake is a powerful sorcerer that has gotten in over his head when he brought over his demon lover. On the surface he is arrogant and self-serving. I loved the banter between him and Roxie as she berates him constantly for having a demon girlfriend from Hell. There is a lot of depth to his character and a vulnerability that makes him very real. This is something Clark has done well, create complex and emotionally believable characters.

Clark is a talented writer and the prose is flawless. If you like traditional magic, fast-paced action, and smart snarky dialogue then you will love this. I look forward to the next book in this series.
