Amanda Jones Guest Post: From the diary of Satan... (Dark Angel book tour) + giveaway

From the diary of Satan – Supreme Sheolic Overlord, Emperor of the 666 Legions, Source of all Evil.

Dear Diary

Today was a pretty average day – there were a few light tortures in the morning, followed by lunch with Famine, and a game of chess with War. Checked in on Death this afternoon – he has quite a lovely prisoner in his lair… haven’t seen Pestilence around today – he’s had a nasty bout of the flu – note to self – bring him a Tupperware of chicken soup.

This evening I spent a few hours chillin’ in my office with some music – still trying to master the N’Sync “Bye Bye Bye” puppet dance – I’d like to have it ready for the Sheolic talent contest – I know just which prisoners to string up next to me as props! There’s no business like show business!

Had the castle’s mage work a spell to enhance our WiFi signal. I plan to take over the Twitterverse by morning! Straight from Sheol into your homes via @theonetruesatan!!! I must remember to take some cute videos of my re-animated kitty Pookie Pie for upload…those humans love their cat videos.

My butler had our resident mage design me a new RPG game for my PS4! Can’t wait to decimate those dirty angels in the virtual world AND the real world.

I guess that’s all for now – I do have an underworld to run! ‘Til tomorrow dear diary!

Satan – slayer of real AND virtual angels, dancer extraordinaire!

P.S. I had my minions do the Harlem Shake – video got over 100 likes!!!

P.P.S. People seem to think my social media accounts are marketing ploys for some new movie release…what the Sheol!

Top 5 Reasons Why Jerome Is the Place to Be During the Zombie Apocalypse

True, the Witches of Cleopatra Hill series is about, well, witches. But as a big Walking Dead fan, I’m always evaluating locations as to their viability should the big ZA actually occur. This got me thinking about Jerome, Arizona, the setting for the Cleopatra Hill trilogy, and whether it would be a good place to be if the dead (or the infected, depending on which flavor of zombie you prefer) start swarming.

1. Isolation. Jerome is perched on the side of a mountain, with only one road leading in and out (Arizona 89A). Since it’s a narrow two-lane highway, it would be easy to create barricades to keep the undead and other undesirables out, especially since the highway is cut into the side of the mountain and has deep drop-offs on the side.

2. Small population. Jerome’s permanent population is only around 450 people, which would make it easier to control outbreaks. The population tends to swell on the weekends because of tourist traffic, so it would be better if the outbreak occurred on a weekday, preferably Wednesday.

3. Local food resources. A lot of people in Jerome garden and grow their own fruits and vegetables. The mountain above the town is also heavily populated with deer, rabbits, and other wildlife. Small hunting parties could go out to procure game to feed the town. (And let’s not forget about the food on hand in the various restaurants in town; there’s a high ratio of eating establishments to residents because of the tourist trade.)

4. Frontier spirit. A lot of the residents of Jerome are artisans, craftsmen, etc. and can create items necessary for survival. Also, Arizona is an open-carry state, so there probably won’t be a shortage of weaponry. ;-)

5. Small-town camaraderie. It’s a lot easier to pull together and work to stay safe when everyone in the town knows everyone else. There may be some tourists trapped in the town when the ZA hits, but they should figure out quickly enough that it’s in their best interests to work with the regular townsfolk. If not, as Stephen King put it in The Stand, “there’s always the road….”

Dark Angel
Witches of Cleopatra Hill, Book 1
By Christine Pope

Coming April 2014

Jerome, Arizona, isn't just one of the most haunted places in America—it's also home to the McAllister witches and their extended clan. Angelica McAllister is the prima, the most powerful witch in her clan, but even she has to be on her guard, as the warlocks from a rival clan want nothing more than to capture her and bond her powers with theirs. To prevent this catastrophe, Angelica is expected to marry a compatible man from her clan. Never mind that she's not interested in any of them, and is instead haunted by the face of a man she's seen only in her dreams.

Book Review: Dark Angel (Witches of Cleopatra Hill, Book 1) by Christine Pope

Coming April 2014

Jerome, Arizona, isn't just one of the most haunted places in America—it's also home to the McAllister witches and their extended clan. Angelica McAllister is the prima, the most powerful witch in her clan, but even she has to be on her guard, as the warlocks from a rival clan want nothing more than to capture her and bond her powers with theirs. To prevent this catastrophe, Angelica is expected to marry a compatible man from her clan. Never mind that she's not interested in any of them, and is instead haunted by the face of a man she's seen only in her dreams.

Imagine having forty-four young men paraded before you one after the other knowing you must kiss them to find out if they are the one you will bond with Yet all the while remaining chaste and knowing at first sight, nope this is not the one, but having to kiss them anyway. This is the problem Angela McAllister is faced with in Darkangel, which is the first book of the new Witches of Cleopatra Hill trilogy. The primary focus of this book is the introduction to Angela, the future head witch of her clan, and her struggles to find her consort. She is a young woman who just turned twenty-one and needs to find her consort and consummate and/or bond in the relationship before she turns twenty-two in order to come into her full powers to protect her clan.

The story was intriguing enough to keep me glued to the pages, but I do have to say the majority of the book was world building and just when it was all about to hit the fan the book ends with a huge cliffhanger. For those that find this type of ending frustrating, the next installment is due out in June 2014. The writing was smooth and even though at times the book seemed long, I cannot think of anything that could have been cut and still leave the story with the full impact. The world building was really good and very believable keeping me turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next, even though I did correctly guess the outcome a few times.

The characters were intriguing, although sometimes annoying, and frankly I am looking forward to learning more about the bad guys in the tale. In this readers opinion this is not a dark read, but rather more on the lighter side of intrigue; however, there is promise of darker days to come and I am looking forward to reading the next installment to find out what happens.
