Kick Ass is well worth it!

Kick Ass, Directed by Matthew Vaughn was an intense movie that will surprise you with its intertwining heart felt stories.

Who hasn't thought of being a super hero, I for one would pick my super power more along the line of Storm from X-Men. But this story is not about a boy waking up after being bitten by a freaky spider and using his powers to rid the world of evil doers. No, this is about a teenage male wanting to live out his childhood fantasies and finding quite a bit of trouble along the way.

Nicolas Cage plays a single father raising his preteen daughter in a nontraditional way, seeking out his revenge against a wealthy drug lord. Did not see this coming, the emotional part of this movie hit me hard in the chest. And being a parent myself I really did feel for his character, even though I did not agree with certain parts. Overall I was rooting Team Big Daddy!

Marketing for this movie to me emphasizes it as a "teenage comedy", and yes there is the typical puberty humor but mixed in with that grows a great story for self awareness and standing up for what you believe in. Even if it's crazy.

This movie brings the gore and plenty of darkness, so be warned ahead of time but don't let it stop you from seeing it. Somehow it all balances out in the movie. You might find yourself leaving the theater asking the question, what would I do?

Go see it!

Everlasting Kiss.....choke gag gag

Amanda Ashley author of the disappointing Everlasting Kiss has left me with such a foul taste in my mouth I want to scream while pulling my hair out. Again. I must have let out at least 10 "OMG this book is so AWFUL!" while reading it. Truly it is that bad.
Come on I LOVE vampire books as much as the next gal but this, this story (if you could call it that) was a non stop ramble jamble of garbage mixed with some toxic waste. Not one character had any redeeming qualities. Not unless you like your vampires dull and boring (and really he drove a Trans Am for real, I mean for real?!) and your women whiney annoying and spineless.
I felt like this was a sick and twisted version of Queens Bohemian Rhapsody:
will we meet at the club?
yes we will
oh no we wont
oh yes we will
oh no we wont
yes yes
no no
omg he stood me up
no no no no
will she be more lame
oh yes she will
oh no she wont
oh she will
yes yes yes
Do not waste your time or your money on this book, pass it up and don't look back. The only good thing I can take from this is throwing it in a fire while dancing joyously around the flames! Kum Ba Yah bring on the smores! Paper log fires rule my Mom would agree :)

Muse Live in Concert Oakland, CA

Thanks to my super fantastic awesome incredible friend Scott I was able to get two tickets to see Muse live in concert. And to top it off we were 5 rows from the front! THANK YOU SCOTT!
If you have never heard of Muse listen up and listen good- THEY ARE INCREDIBLE! Buy a cd give it a listen and if your not hooked afterword then you must be smokin something good (and please pass it around) because they rock.
Lead vocalist Matthew Bellamy has a voice that is out of this world, not an "I sound great in the studio only" (Britney, Ashley, Lindsay, etc.) but live as well. Gawd he was something to see.....let the dreamy eyes begin.
Bass guitarist Christopher Wolstenholme had me rockin from the moment he picked up his guitar and stared to play those first notes. He dominated the stage with his subtle by sold presence, its always the shy ones that can blow you away. Or so I have heard. On a side note he had me loving him after walking on stage with a cig and lighting it up while playing! SMOKERS ROCK *cough cough. ahhh its the little things in life, good form sir I will take another!
Not to leave out the amazing drummer Dominic Howard who played his tail off the entire time. The man did not stop banging away the whole show, really an extraordinary musician.
Seeing Muse live left me wanting more and I will go back again and again, they blew me away with sight in addition to sound. Their stage was created in a way that people sitting anywhere could see what was going on. At times the band was up high above the crowd and others at stage level but you could always feel the energy no matter where you were sitting.
I am glad my Mom went with me for several reasons first: she loves Muse, second: no one is better to go with to a show then her. We had an amazing time and met some very interesting people along the way. But I swear if we ever sit in the same row with the girl in the mouse beanie, who kept getting up every 2 minutes to use the restroom, I am going to start a riot!

Night Huntress Books

As promised I bring my review of the Night Huntress Books (1-4 and more coming out in 2011) by author Jeanine Frost........
One of my biggest issues with writing this blog is patience, I know I could never sit here long enough to write a detailed review for each book. Too many things to do in a day! But how would one sum up 4 books in a single blog? Heres my way :)
Halfway to the Grave, book 1- half-vamp half-human Cat Crawfiled tough chick, untrained and scrappy, kills the undead with her sexy looks and homemade stakes. Enter sexy English vamp Bones, holds her hostage (sort of) for his own reasons, relentlessly starts training her, transforming, becomes the ultimate killing machine, and can this girl kick some butt!
Cat has major trust issues, relationship issues, self doubt, loneliness and a temper with a very very short fuse can we say "anger management"!
But you find yourself falling in love with this woman, wanting her to succeeded and hoping she finds her way to happiness.
Bones is that guy who never gives up and continues to push until you bleed or pass out. He will protect those he cares for and skewer those who betray him or his friends.
I love action and witty dialog more then anything else and this book delivers and then some. Add a dash of sex and

First Drop of Crimson

First Drop of Crimson by Jeanine Frost is the first book in her new sires of Night Huntress World books. The cover is a bit corny as all books in the romance/fantasy category seem to be, it amazes me how off base the covers can be sometimes but oh well what can ya do.

While walking through my local Target last week scanning through the new book releases this one jumped out at me, I laughed at the cover then turned it over to read the description and thought what the heck. After reading the first chapter I was hooked and didn't put it down until I finished it at 2am!

Description from Authors page:

Denise MacGregor knows all too well what lurks in the shadows – her best friend is half-vampire Cat Crawfield – and she has already lost more than the average human could bear. But her family’s dark past is wrapped in secrets and shrouded in darkness – and a demon shapeshifter has marked Denise as prey. Now her survival depends on an immortal who craves a taste of her.
He is Spade, a powerful, mysterious vampire who has walked the earth for centuries and is now duty-bound to protect this endangered, alluring human – even if it means destroying his own kind. Denise may arouse his deepest hungers, but Spade knows he must fight his urge to have her as they face the demon nightmare together…
Because once the first drop of crimson falls, they will both be lost.
If you like steamy romance, fantasy characters (vampires, ghouls, demons, etc.), action, witty dialog and hunky men/woman this book will deliver! The story grabs you from the start and holds you until the last page, I was surprised and delighted by the end. I immediately went online after reading and found 4 previous books that deal with Cat Crawfield mentioned in this book. Her books will arrive from Amazon this week and reviews will sure to follow.

I make no secret of my love for vampires, werwolf's or other shape shifters, witches-warlocks and zombies they fascinate me and finding a captivating book-series is what I live for.I thoroughly enjoyed Frost's writing style in this book and hope she will deliver with her previous set.

My hope dear friends is that you are not put off by the covers, the story inside does not match what you read. And why oh why do the publishing houses choose these gaudy covers?
Only they know.....

Date Night Movie a riot!

Tina Fey and Steve Carell are hysterical in the comedy movie Date Night. If you have been through marriage, kids and all the years in between so much of this movie will ring true. And if you're one of the lucky few who have not, BEWARE THIS WILL BE YOUR FUTURE! lol I kid, I kid.
Marky Mark looks fabulous with or without his shirt (I for one will take no shirt whenever offered) playing the role of past client to Tina Feys character. You will laugh so hard during the boat scene you may pee yourself- just a little.
Steve Carell has bugged me in previous movies and I for one am not a fan of the office, I can take him in bites but no more then that. This movie had the perfect balance for me, I never found myself getting annoyed with him once. May be due to the fact of Tina bringing her brilliance of comedy to the film or just the overall flow, but I was very pleased.
Has enough action and boobies to keep men entertained as well, overall a fun movie that will leave you with a smile on your face. Make sure to stay through the end credits for the outtakes you wont regret it.
Thank you Rose for an awesome birthday movie and dinner I love you girl.

The Expendables Movie

I am in old guy heaven right now! With a cast like this who wouldn't be Stallone, Arnold (the gov-a-na-tor), Rourke, Statham, Li, Lundgren, Roberts, Crews, Austin, Willis, Couture...... need I say more.
IMDb discription: THE EXPENDABLES is a hard-hitting action/thriller about a group of mercenaries hired to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow its ruthless dictator. Once the mission begins, the men realize things arent quite as they appear, finding themselves caught in a dangerous web of deceit and betrayal. With their mission thwarted and an innocent life in danger, the men struggle with an even tougher challenge one that threatens to destroy this band of brothers.
Directed by Sly himself this movie is sure to bring action packed over the top fighting scenes, impossible missions that are so far fetched and unrealistic they will ensue constant eye rolling, cheesy dialog between actors at every turn, super model damsels in distress who happen to wear little to nothing at all, so much greasy testosterone you may want to take a shower after! But after saying all that I CAN NOT wait to see this movie!
Bringing all the old timers together for a movie like this will be awesome, I don't really care how bad it is but I will hope it ends up having a few redeeming qualities. I am over the moon to see this film, Dolph I have loved you since Masters of the Universe. He-man your wish is my command..... so sexy. Anywho this film is sure to be a fun one follow the link below for more info and see you at the movies August 13th!

Temper Trap

After winning tickets to see Temper Trap on my local radio station 92.3, there was no question in my mind who I would take. MY MOM. My brave mother is fighting terminal cancer and is not giving up the fight laying down! GO MOM! We were in a small group of about 30 people who got to attend a live in studio concert, what an absolute treat.
The dj, Tanner, was fantastic to us both and let us stick around after the show for a tour of the facility. But more about that later.
This was our first time meeting anyone in a band with songs playing on the radio and so on. We got to meet 3 members from the now group of 5, and what gentlemen they turned out to be. Maybe we expected them to be stuck up full of themselves but they were anything but. They talked with us for a very long time, took pictures, ate tacos and chips and salsa with us and Dougy even walked out to my car with us for a special TShirt I brought for him.
I attended their live show the next day and found it overwhelming to hear them play with the rest of the band members. There album has a fantastic sound, lyrics that reach out and grab you throw in a lead singer with a voice Prince would die for and really what more can you ask for. They take time out to meet with fans and talk to everyone who comes up to them. If you get a chance to see these guys in concert DO NOT hesitate, they are very worthy of it.
Thank you 92.3 for the outstanding treatment and the tickets to their live show in SF, you all are amazing. You work so hard to bring your listeners the music they crave to hear.
