Horror comes in many forms.

There's a misconception about horror, that it has to be bloody, it has to be filled with entrails and viscera, it has to have demons or knives. It has to involve vampires. It has to have a monster.

But horror has many faces. It can be a mother, in the heat of summer, alone in an empty parking lot, realizing she's locked her keys and purse in the car… with her twelve-month old infant strapped in the back seat. It can be a stalker in an alley or a withering disease. Horror comes in many shapes and sizes, some of them more mundane than others, some perhaps messier. But in the end, all horror stories have one thing in common. The monster is the truth.

That truth may be that we all die one day. Those we love, those we care about, will all at some point, cease to breathe, cease to walk and laugh, cease to tell their stories, and simply become inert.

In this collection you'll find a variety of ways in which the truth is told. People trapped in their own bodies, infected and mindless, forced to obey their hunger; men seeking the cosmic truth to find they wish they'd never discovered it; the Antichrist with his own congregation of followers, with claws and wings and livers for eyes; a parasitic fungus which feeds on information, memories, and bodies; a corporation makes a devil's bargain with people too desperate for work to say no; a failing author finds himself possessed to write a horror bestseller at a steep price; a crime investigation turns into something far more terrifying; a man finds himself haunted by a child born in the catacombs of a sanitarium; this guy keeps appearing and I can't stop killing him.

All these stories speak of the unspoken truths, of the dark places in our minds we pretend we don't see. They speak of entropy in its purest form, of the all-devouring maw to which we all return one day.

So step right in, take a seat. Face the truth with us. – Martin Kee

The initial titles in the bundle (minimum $3 to purchase) are:
Bloom by Martin Kee
Hell's Muse by Jack Wallen
Limbus, Inc. by Jonathan Maberry, Joseph Nassise, Benjamin Kane Ethridge, Brett J. Talley and Anne C. Petty
That Which Should Not Be by Brett J. Talley
Tunnel Vision by Tanya Eby
Crime Seen by Michaelbrent Collings

If you pay more than the bonus price of just $12, you'll get another three books:
Irregular Creatures by Chuck Wendig
I, Zombie by Hugh Howey
The Red Church byScott Nicholson

A Quickie with Eve Langlais (interview that is) Kodiak's Claim Book Tour

The funny Eve Langlais has stopped by for a quickie ...interview that is! (Gutter wallowing sheep<G>). So check out what she has to say and what these videos have to do with it! Pick your poison and rock out while you read.

Sharon: Where do you do your best thinking and plotting?
Eve: There are two places that usually help when I'm stuck in a story or trying to figure out where to go next; in the shower, lol, or when I go for a drive with hubby. The drive especially, usually with a mocha coffee in hand, is really good for me as it relaxes me, and I use my hubby as a sounding board, reciting my current storyline out loud. For some reason orating it like this to an audience and trying to make hubby understand what's going on helps me to clarify the current story arc and where it's going.

Sharon: Best piece of writing advice someone gave you?
Eve: Write. Don't get hung up on revising and editing in an endless loop. An author never thinks they're story is good enough. Sometimes you just have to let go, send it to your editor and move on to the next story.

Sharon: What book are you embarrassed to say you’ve never read?
EveFifty Shades of Grey. It seems everyone has read it, and people who hear I'm a romance writer always ask me what I think.

Sharon: Which fictional or non-fictional character would like to have your back during the apocalypse?
EveMy husband. He'd totally kick some serious ass. :D

Sharon: If every time you entered a room theme music or a song played, what would it be?
EveOMG, I've never been asked that before. I think it would depend if I was in a certain book mode. When I'm immersed in my cyborg world, I love Styx, Mr Roboto. When in an alien mood, Katy Perry's ET. But honestly, if I'm just hanging with readers/authors and having a good time, probably Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Want To Have Fun.

Hello, my name is Eve. I’m a stay at home mom who writes full time in between juggling my three kids, hubby, and housework, I write really raunchy stuff–usually with werewolves lol.

I am a bestselling Amazon author, ranking often in their top 100 romance authors. But I’m not just popular with Kindle readers. I was one of the top ten selling authors on AllRomance for 2013 and have had numerous of my books hit the top 100 books over all on Barnes & Nobles as well.

I’m writing romance, my way. I do have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. I like strong alpha males, naked chests and werewolves. Lots of werewolves. In fact, you’ll notice most of my multi partner stories revolve around great, big, overprotective Lycans who just want to please their woman. I am also extremely partial to aliens, you know the kind who abduct their woman and then drive them insane…with pleasure of course.

I love to write, and while I don’t always know what my mind is going to come up with next, I can promise it will be fun, probably humorous and most of all romantic, because I love a happily ever after.

Kodiak's Claim
by Eve Langlais

July 29th 2014

He might growl, but she’s not afraid to bite.

Hands full taking care of his clan, the last thing this Kodiak bear needs is a woman poking her cute little nose into his affairs. But when she refuses to back down—and shows the courage to stand up to him—he can’t resist the allure of a curvy city girl.

She’s mine. All mine.

And when a rival clan thinks to use her to force his paw, he’ll show them why you never piss off a Kodiak, or threaten what’s his.

Tammy is convinced men are all scum, even gorgeous ones like Reid Carver. She knows he’s hiding something. Something big. She just never expected a real freaking bear hid underneath all those muscles. But when the truth comes out and he tries to scare her off with a roar, she shows him not just bears have bite.

Book Review: Anterograde by Kallysten

Anterograde
by Kallysten
When Calden wakes up – every time he wakes up – the last thing he can recall is a debilitating headache that even his medical background failed to identify as anything more serious than a regular headache. He also remembers his decision to ignore the fact that his best friend Eli is married and to tell him about his long-standing feelings for him. He remembers June second.

But it is not June second anymore. The tattoos on his arm and chest prove it. They also tell him why he doesn’t remember anything past June second… and why Eli sleeps in his bed now.

When Calden wakes up – every time he wakes up – he gets to discover Eli is in love with him for the first time all over again.

"Anterograde amnesia is a loss of the ability to create new memories after the event that caused the amnesia, leading to a partial or complete inability to recall the recent past, while long-term memories from before the event remain intact." -wikipedia

I’ve put off writing this review because I was quite sure how to do it. The books we love are always the hardest to review. Let’s start with this is a gay romance. Now I know a lot of people don’t care for that, but this story is about so much more. There are a few sex scenes that can easily be skipped if you prefer not to read that.

There are two things that make this story stick out from the romance crowd. It is hyper focused on the two men, their relationship and dealing with Calden’s medical condition. A few other characters float in and out but they are peripheral. There are mentions of a complicated history for these two but it doesn’t go into that. I think this story is set in her “The Demon’s Age” series world and people live in a post-apocalyptic world where demons are trying to destroy the human race.

The most interesting element of the book and what makes it so unique is the way it was written. The chapters alternate between Calden and Eli in first person POV, but the time line of the events aren’t the same. Eli’s side of the story starts in the past on June 2 into the present, Calden’s is told from the present back to the past when he got sick on June 2. It doesn’t seem like it would work but it does! There is the option to read both POVs on the same timeline, but you will lose some of the emotional and disconcerting impact of the story that gives the reader a better understanding of what the characters are dealing with.

These two characters touched me and they are beautifully written. Kallysten is a talented author.

Kallysten is a writer of romance novels and short stories, most of them with paranormal elements.

Her first eBooks were published by Linden Bay Romance in 2005. The defunct Venus Press subsequently published a few of her short stories. Because so many of her stories are linked as series and part of the same universe, she decided it would make sense to have them all in the same place, which is why she self-published, first with the co-op Alinar Publishing and now on her own. When she sees calls for submissions that speak to her muse, she sometimes tries for them, and was published this way by Samhain and Torquere.

Guest Post: Do your dreams have power over you? by Donna Galanti + giveaway

Do your dreams have power over you?
by Donna Galanti

Do you dream about the same thing over and over?

For years I had theme dreams. How I wish they were of nice things. Rainbows. Birthday parties. Cooing babies.

Nope. Mine were scary. A man with a machete chasing me to whack off my head. Of course I never actually died in this dream. I always woke up just before being decapitated. But the heads of my loved ones did roll.

Maybe dreaming of monsters is why my favorite show is Supernatural. Okay, it wouldn’t have anything to do with the fact that Dean and Sam Winchester are HOT! I guess I’ll have to keep them forever in my dreams. Sigh…

And perhaps we’re better off not remembering our dreams – or re-living them over and over. Perhaps they need to stay as dreams to ward off the dark.

In my paranormal suspense novel, A Human Element, Laura Armstrong is also haunted by nightmares of an evil man chasing her. Only, this man is not a figment of her imagination. He is very real and very capable of killing her from afar. When her dreams become a reality and she discovers her stalker is part of her own destiny she has to decide whether to kill him or redeem him. Ben Fieldstone in A Human Element also dreams of a Laura and a meteorite coming to crush him to death, as it did his parents.

But back to machetes. I ran for miles in my dreams avoiding decapitation from that unknown machete wielding maniac. He swung blades of steel seeking my neck. He chased me. On and on.
Then one day a crowd came. They surged onto the brute and whacked him to death with garden hoses. He disappeared and never returned. For the first time someone came to help me. And they destroyed the thing that haunted me most. They gave me hope.

Maybe this is the reason I write from the darker side with a touch of hope. No matter how dark things are, there is hope for survival.

And then it hit me. The machete man was awfully familiar to the villain in my book, X-10. I think he hides inside me and comes out when I write, and that is the only place he’ll remain safe from now on. If not, I’ll send back in the angry hoard of garden-hose attackers to get him good.

The power of dreams, right? Have your dreams had power over you?
Excerpt - Ben Fieldstone’s Dreams That Haunt Him:
That night he dreamed. He stood at the lake on its shore. The stillness covered him in peaceful quiet. The moon shone high overhead painting the wave tops with gold that lapped at the water's edge. Something moved in the distance on the path leading around the lake. It was a girl. She walked toward him as if she knew him. Finally, she stood before him and smiled. He found himself smiling back.

She took his hand and stared at him with her large, brown eyes. She looked so lovely. Her hand was warm in his, her touch sent waves of yearning through his body. She reached up on her toes and kissed him. He squeezed her hand and found himself kissing her back. Their tongues intertwined in a soft, embracing dance. He gave himself to her mouth, falling into her sweet wetness.

She put her hand behind his neck and pulled him closer. "Ben, do you know what I am?" Her eyes held him in a trance.

"What you are? What do you mean?"

"Come with me, I'll show you."

He followed her as she led him down the path. Then he looked up. Something green shone in the sky. The meteorite. It would crush them. She was leading them toward the spot where it would crash.

"No!" He pulled her with him to go back.

"Come." Her large eyes drew him into her.

"No, follow me," Ben urged. "Can't you see, it's coming!"

"Come." She caressed his hand. "It's where I belong. We can belong together."

"No!" He dropped her hand and ran.

His legs pumped fast over the rocks and fallen logs on the path. He turned once. She still stood there under the moon. The green thing filled the sky behind her as it streaked toward them.

She was smiling.

About A Human Element:
Evil comes in many forms…

One by one, Laura Armstrong’s friends and adoptive family members are being murdered, and despite her unique healing powers, she can do nothing to stop it. There, she meets Ben Fieldstone, who seeks answers about his parents’ death the night the meteorite struck. In a race to stop a madman, they unravel a frightening secret that binds them together. But the killer’s desire to destroy Laura face-to-face leads to a showdown that puts Laura and Ben’s emotional relationship and Laura’s pure spirit to the test. Book Review ARC: Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels #7) by Ilona Andrews -SPOILER FREE

Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels #7)
by Ilona Andrews

Hardcover, 302 pages
Expected publication: July 29th 2014
by Ace Hardcover

No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: if there’s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it…

As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.

As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear.

When I grow up I want to be Katie Daniels. I love everything about her so you can pretty much guess how this review is going to go. We have watched Kate go from a very defensive loner to an extremely loyal friend. Carefully she has dropped her walls and let others into her life only to find out everything she holds dear is in peril; we finally get to see what she is made of and boy is it bas ass!

Book seven is the end of the major series story arc. It is time for Kate’s showdown with her father, and it is everything you expect it to be and some you didn’t. This might be one of the darkest and most violent of the books as well as the most heartbreaking. We finally get some back story about the vampire Ghastek, as well as Kate’s mother.

The ending is not what I expected and it will take the series in a new crazy direction. One I can’t wait to read.

Blossom Quotes:

“Pork sword. Kill me now.”

“I stepped into the tortoise’s mouth.”

“Our family consists of monsters.”
“Yes. But we are great and powerful monsters.”

Alpha Male Diner: Carter Griffin (Werewolf) by Kristin Miller + giveaway

Carter Griffin (Werewolf and enforcing officer for the Seattle Wolf Pack)
recipe by Kristin Miller
So I Married a Werewolf

Start with one dominant werewolf who is used to getting what he wants.

Add:
Dark hair, cut close to the sides
Ice blue eyes
Lips designed for pleasure
Tattoos covering his golden-tan skin

Mix with:
Possessiveness
Quick wit
Unwavering loyalty to his friends
An unquenchable thirst to claim his mate as his

While you start with the mold of “best friend”, don’t be discouraged. With a mix of determination, persistence, and tactics to make him jealous, the man will have the clawing desire to become more than friends. Throw in a dash of humor, a hint of companionship, a generous amount of teasing foreplay, and you’ll have a man who melts for you.

In So I Married a Werewolf, Faith and Carter are packmates and great friends who strike up a marriage bargain so that he can earn a promotion at work, and she can help pay for her brother’s college tuition. It’s funny how love can destroy even the most carefully thought out plans…

Hold on tight for your tantalizing sample…

Taste Test

“I’m…” He shoved his fingers through his hair. “I’m worried about you.”

She stepped back toward the embankment, beneath a flickering umbrella of light, and hopped up on the concrete half wall separating the walkway from a patch of grass.

“You’ve got no reason to worry about me,” she said. “I’m not yours.”

“You are mine.” He advanced, and then stopped suddenly, a look of shock flashing over his face. “For the next few months, you’re my wife.”

“But I’m not your woman or your mate.” She kicked her legs over the edge. “If I want to talk to a stranger in the bar until midnight I will, as long as it doesn’t interfere with our agreement or your chances of getting the detective position.”

The light overhead flickered to black. In the temporary dark, Faith heard the hard and true thump-thump of Carter’s heartbeat, his heavy intake and exhale of breath, and the clunk of his heel as he eliminated the space between them.

“Carter?”

He whispered, “Let me try something.”

And in the next instant, his hand was on her cheek. She flinched, but his fingers lingered, the pads brushing against her skin in a loving caress. She couldn’t help it—the tenderness of his touch forced her eyes closed. His hand glided to the back of her neck, and he gave a little tug, scooting her to the very edge of the half wall. He stood against the concrete, his hips pressing her thighs apart.

Her breath hitched as he tilted her head up with his fingers and planted an openmouthed kiss on her neck. Sparks sizzled across her skin and warmed her from the inside out.

She shouldn’t be doing this. He didn’t want her last night.

What changed?

His tongue shot out tantalizingly slow, tracing her scar from her jawline down the side of her neck. Quivering, she reached out for him and grazed her nails down his back. Then she grabbed fistfuls of his shirt and shoved him away from her.

“Are you the same person you were last night?” she asked, willing her racing heart to still.

His face was close to hers and closing in. “I am.”

“Am I the same woman?”

“I hope so.” The words were spoken from a smiling mouth—one that was going to kiss her and stop her heart in two seconds flat. God, he smelled good. Like pine and woodsmoke.

She held him at arm’s length. “I thought we were friends.”

“We are. I was thinking we could try ‘friends with benefits’ on for size.”

God, he’d probably benefit as well as he kissed.
