Book Review: Kissed by a Dark Prince by Felicity Heaton

Kissed by a Dark Prince (Eternal Mates #1)
by Felicity E. Heaton
Olivia thinks it’s her lucky night when a dangerously handsome unconscious fae ends up on her inspection table. He’s her chance to redeem herself with her employer, the demon-hunting organisation, Archangel. But when the tall, dark and deadly immortal warrior awakes, she gets much more than she bargained for…

Attacked by his enemy in the elf kingdom, the last thing Prince Loren expects when he comes around is a beautiful angel watching over him and medical technology of the mortal realm. Hazy from his injuries, all he can focus on is the pulse ticking in her throat and the sweet allure of her blood.

One single bite reveals she is his eternal mate, triggering a bond between them that will leave him weakened until it is complete… or broken, and pulling Olivia into the crossfire of his ancient feud.

To protect his people and his mate from the machinations of a madman, Loren must risk everything by working with Olivia at Archangel to find a way to break the bond blossoming between them.

But will Loren be strong enough to place duty before desire and give up the one thing he has waited millennia for and craves above all others—his eternal mate? And will Olivia be able to resist the incredible heat that burns between them and the temptation of her dark prince’s kiss

Well chalk up another point for hot elves! The first book in a new series by author Felicity Heaton, Kissed by a Dark Prince is a dark, gritty and thrilling ride that kept me up into the late hours of the night. It was a great start to a series and introduced some very interesting storylines and characters.

Seriously wounded during battle, Loren, prince of elves, wakes up in a strange place and in desperate need of blood so he takes it from the only person in the room with him, only to find out that she’s his eternal mate. As said eternal mate, Olivia is not exactly thrilled when she learns that not only did a very handsome prince drink her blood, but he started a process which will bind them together for forever. The victim of a brutal betrayal at the hands of a demon, Olivia is not about to trust another powerful being with anything important, so she fights her attraction and the connection to Loren every step of the way. While Loren feels the connection between them, he is prepared to sacrifice his only chance at a mate and family in order to defeat his enemy.

There’s such a raw quality to Felicity Heaton’s characters, particularly her male characters that appeals to female readers like myself. Who doesn’t enjoy reading about a male who is super sexy in a lethal way and who will do anything to make his female happy no matter what the cost is to him? Loren had all that and a vulnerable side that feared Olivia would reject him and their bond. Olivia on the other hand, may not have been lethal in a physical sense but for a human woman she had guts. She also didn’t let Loren boss her around and I loved that about her. Even in the middle of a dangerous situation she never played the damsel in distress card and she certainly didn’t just sit back and let Loren do all the heavy work.

I’ve quickly learned that Felicity Heaton writes some of the most erotic love scenes I’ve ever read and though I’ve only read 3 of her books, each one was different in their love scenes and that can’t be easy to do so I admire the fact that she can make each couple’s relationship different from the one before.

My only complaint was the amount of time spent on Loren and Olivia’s fight to get out of their fated mating. There was so much back and forth between them about not wanting to be mated (more on Olivia’s part though), that it sometimes became tedious. The time spent on developing the relationship was excellent though, there were no cheesy “Love at First Sight” bits, lust yes, love, no so that’s part of what made Loren and Olivia’s relationship work for me.

There were some excellent supporting characters in Kissed by a Dark Prince that have me very curious. I really liked Bleu, Loren’s second in command and Vail, Loren’s brother and I hope they get their own books soon. Especially Vail, I think he would make a very interesting lead character after everything he’s been through. I’m keeping my eyes open for the next book in this series!

  1. Thanks, Sharon! I'm only familiar with her vampire and angels series and I'm not keen on reading books that stars those otherworldly, got a little tired of them. This one sounds good and a great switcheroo from the usual.

    happy new year!

    1. Adria reviewed it. I plan on reading it too. I love anything fae and there isn't a lot of it out there right now. Shona Husk's Goblin series and her new fairy series are good. I guest reviewed them for Love Romance Passion blog.
