Cover Reveal: Old vs New? Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark #1) by Kresley Cole

Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark #1)  by Kresley Cole came out 18 years ago

On October 1st, Gallery Books will re-release the book with a new cover.

What do you think? Old or New?
Hunger Like No Other new book cover by Kresley Cole, paranormal romance
For fans of Ali Hazelwood’s Bride and Ruby Dixon’s Ice Planet Barbarians series, an innocent young vampire and a powerful werewolf king are drawn together by an unexpected soul bond in the electrifying start to Kresley Cole’s New York Times bestselling Immortals After Dark series—now with a stunning new cover.

Half vampire, half Valkyrie, Emmaline spent her entire sheltered life hidden among the Lore in New Orleans surrounded by the loving, yet overbearing coven who raised her. All Emmaline Troy wanted was a trip to Paris –to investigate her parents’ mysterious deaths there all those years ago. And to finally have a small adventure and perhaps even a first kiss.

But one crowded city night, as she’s making her way down a street, she’s knocked off her feet by striking werewolf. He’s towering, intimidating, and has an infuriatingly seductive Scottish brogue. And he won’t let her go.

The Lykae King, Lachlain MacRieve, has been imprisoned in the catacombs beneath Paris for over a 150 years by his sworn Vampire enemies, but the scent of his Fated Mate on the streets above gives him the strength to finally escape from his subterranean prison. Lachlain has waited for Her for centuries, and the last thing he expects is the bewitching vampire mix who seems to want only to escape his grasp.

Yet he knows only she can soothe the fury within him and he’s determined to make her his by the next full moon.

As Lachlain convinces the hesitant but fiery Emma to accompany him to his ancestral home in Scotland, the pair will come up against ruthless creatures, ancient evil, and the irrevocable pull of Fate. Will their desire deepen into a love that can bring a warrior to his knees and turn Emma into the fighter she was born to be?

Book Review: Please See Us by Caitlin Mullen

Summer has come to Atlantic City but the boardwalk is empty of tourists, the casino lights have dimmed, and two Jane Does are laid out in the marshland behind the Sunset Motel, just west of town. Only one person even knows they’re there.

Meanwhile, Clara, a young boardwalk psychic, struggles to attract clients for the tarot readings that pay her rent. When she begins to experience very real and disturbing visions, she suspects they could be related to the recent cases of women gone missing in town. When Clara meets Lily, an ex-Soho art gallery girl who is working at a desolate casino spa and reeling from a personal tragedy, she thinks Lily may be able to help her. But Lily has her own demons to face. If they can put the pieces together in time, they may save another lost girl—so long as their efforts don’t attract perilous attention first. Can they break the ill-fated cycle, or will they join the other victims?

Women have been disappearing and a teenage psychic begins having real, scary visions of the women. There is a serial killer in the Jersey boardwalk area. Clara meets Lily, who just got a job at a spa, and the girl feels she can help her. But Lily is trying to battle her own demons from her past in New York. Not only is the story told in their points of view, but through some of the murder victims too. The killer is an icy enigma, at home in the decaying environs, who preys on the desperate and meting out his own twisted justice.

Nail-biting, haunting suspense knee-deep in horror set in a vacation spot once revered for its casinos, but now is dying, due to the economic downturn. Gritty and realistic, there are no saints or heroes. The atmosphere is bleak, but it ends on a hopeful note, although not all the ends are tied up in a neat manner.

When Ahmare’s brother is abducted, there is nothing she won’t do to get him back safely. She is unprepared, however, for the lengths she will have to go to save his life. Paired with a dangerous but enticing prisoner, she embarks on an odyssey into another world.

Duran, betrayed by his father, imprisoned in a dungeon for decades, has survived only because of his thirst for vengeance. He has been biding his time to escape and is shocked to find an unlikely and temporary freedom in the form of a determined young female.

Battling against deadly forces and facing unforeseen peril, the pair are in a race to save Ahmare’s brother. As time runs out, and the unthinkable looms, even true love may not be enough to carry them through.

Almare has already lost her parents to the raids and when her brother is taken by a maniac, she will stop at nothing to get him back. Chalen isn’t one to keep his word so he renegotiates with Almare when she wants her brother returned to her. He promises her his return if she takes the weapon he provides and fetches his beloved and returns them to him. Almare is shocked when she finds out what the weapon is but won’t let that stop her from saving her brother.

In the Black Dagger Brotherhood world, it’s always nice to meet new characters and discover new adventures outside of the compound. Duran has lived a terrible life filled with betrayal, hatred, and abuse, but when he meets Almare the chemistry between the two of them is instant.

Book Review: Dead Souls: A Novel by J. Lincoln Fenn

Dead Souls: A Novel
by J. Lincoln Fenn
September 20th 2016

ebook, 352 pages
From the award-winning author of the acclaimed novel Poe comes an edgy and bone-chilling new novel.

When Fiona Dunn is approached in a bar by a man who claims he’s the devil, she figures it’s just some kind of postmodern-slash-ironic pickup line. But a few drinks in, he offers her a wish in exchange for her immortal soul, and in addition, Fiona must perform a special favor for him whenever the time comes. Fiona finds the entire matter so absurd that she agrees. Bad idea. Not only does Fiona soon discover that she really was talking to the devil incarnate, but she’s now been initiated into a bizarre support group of similar “dead souls”—those who have done the same thing as Fiona on a whim, and who must spend their waking hours in absolute terror of that favor eventually being called in...and what exactly is required from each of them in order to give the devil his due.

Fiona Dunn thinks her boyfriend, Justin, is cheating on her with a woman in a pink raincoat. Not able to catch up with them and locked out of her apartment, she heads to a bar. Next thing she knows, she agrees to sell her soul in exchange for the ability to become like a ghost so she can check out her boyfriend. Fiona has trust issues thanks to her childhood with drug addict parents and she has always ended her relationships in the past. But when she gets home, she finds that he was not cheating on her, that the woman was actually his sister, taking him to find out if he has cancer. Fiona has sold her soul for nothing. But she uses this power she now has to get ahead in her job so she can make life good for Justin (who has moved in with her) and herself. She also meets with others who have sold their souls to Scratch at a former church, now a bar, called Make Westing. Fiona has been reading through a book made by former dead souls over the years and discovered something called the double deal. She is figuring it out, if it really can be done, and how she can use it with her marketing skills to get the Devil to give it to her, and take her out of the "favor" he asks of all his contracted souls, and also to cure her boyfriend.

J. Fenn Lincoln takes the deal with the Devil tale and adds something new to it. I wasn’t crazy about what she chooses at the end, but the novel is chilling, atmospheric, and highly suspenseful. Warning: there are some graphic scenes, but it is horror/dark fantasy.

Fenn began her horror career in the 7th grade when she entertained her friends at a sleepover by telling them the mysterious clanking noise (created by the baseboard heater) was in fact the ghost of a woman who had once lived in the farmhouse, forced to cannibalize her ten children during a particularly bad winter.

It was the last slumber party she was allowed to have.
