Cover Reveal: Old vs New? Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark #1) by Kresley Cole

Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark #1)  by Kresley Cole came out 18 years ago

On October 1st, Gallery Books will re-release the book with a new cover.

What do you think? Old or New?
Hunger Like No Other new book cover by Kresley Cole, paranormal romance
For fans of Ali Hazelwood’s Bride and Ruby Dixon’s Ice Planet Barbarians series, an innocent young vampire and a powerful werewolf king are drawn together by an unexpected soul bond in the electrifying start to Kresley Cole’s New York Times bestselling Immortals After Dark series—now with a stunning new cover.

Half vampire, half Valkyrie, Emmaline spent her entire sheltered life hidden among the Lore in New Orleans surrounded by the loving, yet overbearing coven who raised her. All Emmaline Troy wanted was a trip to Paris –to investigate her parents’ mysterious deaths there all those years ago. And to finally have a small adventure and perhaps even a first kiss.

But one crowded city night, as she’s making her way down a street, she’s knocked off her feet by striking werewolf. He’s towering, intimidating, and has an infuriatingly seductive Scottish brogue. And he won’t let her go.

The Lykae King, Lachlain MacRieve, has been imprisoned in the catacombs beneath Paris for over a 150 years by his sworn Vampire enemies, but the scent of his Fated Mate on the streets above gives him the strength to finally escape from his subterranean prison. Lachlain has waited for Her for centuries, and the last thing he expects is the bewitching vampire mix who seems to want only to escape his grasp.

Yet he knows only she can soothe the fury within him and he’s determined to make her his by the next full moon.

As Lachlain convinces the hesitant but fiery Emma to accompany him to his ancestral home in Scotland, the pair will come up against ruthless creatures, ancient evil, and the irrevocable pull of Fate. Will their desire deepen into a love that can bring a warrior to his knees and turn Emma into the fighter she was born to be?

Book Review: Shadow's Seduction (Immortals After Dark Book 17) by Kresley Cole

Shadow's Seduction (Immortals After Dark Book 17)

**Includes an 8 chapter bonus preview of WICKED ABYSS!**

In this scorching Immortals After Dark/Dacian novella, #1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole brings together a wicked vampire prince used to getting everything he desires and a demon warrior who always felt like an outcast.

A night of debauchery . . .
Prince Mirceo Daciano and his new friend Caspion the Tracker comb the streets of Dacia, drunkenly seeking out pleasures of the flesh. In what should have been a typical night, they coax a bevy of nymphs to bed. To impress their females, the demon and the vampire kiss on a dare.

Changes them forever . . .
Once they finally break away from their soul-searing kiss, they find themselves alone—and shaken. Had they imagined their explosive chemistry? Obstacles—ranging from a death sentence, to exile on a war-torn dimension—threaten to destroy their lives . . . and the vulnerable promise in that one kiss.

How long can they resist the fire that blazes between them?
Even if Mirceo accepts Caspion as his fated mate, the seductive vampire still must convince the stubborn demon that their bond is forever. And any royal Dacian union must receive the blessing of King Lothaire, an unpredictable and savage killer.

Confession: I gave up on PNR a long time ago. I guess I burned out and I craved the world building from urban fantasy...sadly, this included Cole's IAD series. I haven't read the last 4 or so, but that's okay, because Katie still eats that stuff up like candy and she inhales Cole's books. Then I find out Cole is releasing an m/m IAD book. I'm a big gay romance reader so I was intrigued. But (there is always a but) I had my doubts because many PNR authors have put out an m/m book in their hetero series and they just haven't gotten it right.

I want to apologize to Ms. Cole for ever doubting her...
Shadow's Seduction rocked my PNR world! And made me kick myself for ever leaving her hot and sexy book embrace. Cole can write gay romance. *angles sing and Sharon hugs her kindle* Maybe I'm being a little dramatic but I really loved the vampire, Mirceo. He is everything I want in an alpha hero. Playful, sensual, humorous, mischievous, self-assured (some would say cocky) and determined. When he set his sights on Caspian (the poor demon didn't have a chance) he was unashamed to show it.

Caspion is an alpha male, too...of the demon variety and a little more old school. He fights the fact that Mirceo is his mate tooth and nail (or claw). Some of that has to do with Mirceo being a male, but most has to do with Caspian's insecurities and lack of self-worth.

While this is set in the complex and imaginative IAD world, readers who don't like m/m won't miss any important story arc info. But Lothaire and his bride show up and wow...he's a dick. Warning: if you don't like m/m sex scenes then you best stay away cause it is as detailed as her m/f sex scenes. If you do like that...this is must read...I'm thinking about reading it again...and I NEVER reread books...like ever.

Some favorite Mirceo moments:
He'd always topped with other males, but considering how dominant Caspion was, Mirceo figured he'd be falling on that sword, as it were.

My gods, look at him. Mirceo stared in awe. He's as magnificent as I am.

"This sounds perfect. I would like to throw gold at this problem and delegate all parts of it."

Sheep Book Review: Sweet Ruin (Immortals After Dark book 16) by Kresley Cole

Paranormal Romance
A foundling raised in a world of humans

Growing up, orphaned Josephine didn’t know who or what she was—just that she was “bad,” an outcast with strange powers. Protecting her baby brother Thaddeus became her entire life. The day he was taken away began Jo’s transition from angry girl…to would-be superhero…to enchanting villain.

A lethally sensual enforcer on a mission
Whether by bow or in bed, archer Rune the Baneblood never fails to eliminate his target. In his sights: the oldest living Valkyrie. Yet before he can strike, he encounters a vampiric creature whose beauty mesmerizes him. With one bite, she pierces him with aching pleasure, stealing his forbidden blood—and jeopardizing the secrets of his brethren.

A boundless passion that will lead to sweet ruin…
Could this exquisite female be a spy sent by the very Valkyrie he hunts? Rune knows he must not trust Josephine, yet he’s unable to turn her away. When Jo betrays the identity of the one man she will die to protect, she and Rune become locked in a treacherous battle of wills that pits ultimate loyalty against unbridled lust.

Many of the new Sheep readers may not know me. You may not know my love/obsession for Mrs. Kresley Cole. You may not know that I go to bed dreaming of about these characters. I imagine, with every single vampire fiber of my undead being, that they are real. Flesh and blood friends of mine from the Lore. THIS is my love for the IAD series. THIS is my love for the talented brain that sits inside Mrs. Coles wonderful head. Creepy? Yeah, ok. Do I care? Uhhhh, no.

Sweet Ruin is another megahit from the master of all things PNR who's name, if you don't know by now, is Mrs. Cole. Rune is our smexy leading man this go around and I was so frelin worried how his journey would unfold. He's kinda sorta (sure is) a man whore. Just a tad. But underneath all that nymph sex party fun there has to be a heart of gold? Right? Or in this case black blood. You really want to hope so, because as a writer that's what my demigoddess Cole does. She makes you want to hope for a better future for her characters. You cheer with them, drink at demon bars with them, fight alongside Nix, bleed with them, and cry when they are emotionally or physically destroyed. It's a damn fun ride!

Jo floats into the scene like a badass comic hero, kicking butts and forgetting names. She's all kinds of amazing chaotic glory to read about. I loved her. Her unstoppable strength, take no shit from a man and never give up f*** you attitude. If we could all strive to be more like Jo the world might just be a funner and more snarky amazing place! So when Jo and Rune meet up, it's explosive on the richter scale and wild. The passion dial is turned all the way up! But can this man-whore ever stop?

Tons of glorious action take you on that wonderful magical hard-hitting ride that only Cole can create. There is no PNR writer like this lady. You can try and replicate her in 10Forward but it wont ever be the same damn thing. Qapla! Yes, I'm on her lady nuts and don't care a wink.

Want to read the best PNR series in the history of...ever? You know you do. Get this one and then get all the rest!

Sheep Book Review: Dark Skye by Kresley Cole

Dark Skye
Immortals After Dark #14
By: Kresley Cole
Paranormal Romance
432 Pages

Eternal Obsession
As a boy, Thronos, prince of Skye Hall, loved Lanthe, a mischievous Sorceri girl who made him question everything about his Vrekener clan. But when the two got caught in the middle of their families’ war, tragedy struck, leaving Thronos and Lanthe bitter enemies. Though centuries have passed, nothing can cool his seething need for the beautiful enchantress who scarred his body—and left an even deeper impression on his soul.

Endless Yearning
Lanthe, a once-formidable sorceress struggling to reclaim her gifts, searches for love and acceptance with all the wrong immortal suitors. But she’s never forgotten Thronos, the magnificent silver-eyed boy who protected her until she was ripped from the shelter of his arms. One harrowing night changed everything between them. Now he’s a notorious warlord with a blood vendetta against Lanthe, hunting her relentlessly.

Can the heat of desire burn brighter than vengeance?
With their families locked in conflict and battles raging all around them, will Thronos and Lanthe succumb to the brutal chaos that threatens everything they cherish? Or will the fragile bond they formed so long ago spark a passion strong enough to withstand even the darkest doubts?

There is no other author quiet like Mrs Cole. She's a massive leap above most others in this genera. That's just a pointblank fact. Dropping facts on you all like boom! Dark Skype is yet another example of her writing genius, she's come down with immortal savant syndrome I'm sure of it. There's no other explanation to the colorful, action packed, witty and intoxicating world she's created. It's beyond measure in any scope.

Do you want to read a REALLY good book? Packed with adventure that spreads across realms? Steamy romance that's sure to burn the pages forever into your fantasies? Hunky dudes? Kickass snarky women? Any of this?! Yeah, than grab a copy of this one.

Now, with all the love in my undead vampy heart, I will give some constructive criticism knowing the writer can take it.

If you're just starting this series, you wont be bothered by the angst and anger our leading man has. He's been hurt by the woman he's fated to, and all that physical and mental pain makes him lash out. But as a reader who's been with Cole from book 1, this same scenario is feeling a little reused. It's time for some new blood to be pumped into the reasons why two couples are coming together.

Any one of Coles PNR stories can stretch across realms, but why does the same situation for these couples meeting or being fated keep getting used? I don't know.

The second issue is with the amount of anger Thronos has toward Lanthe. He says some REALLY awful things to her. Over and over. It made me think way back to the story of Emma and Lachlain (A Hunger Like No Other, book 1), when she was mistreated so badly that she walked out onto a ledge. She was ready to jump off. I would have pictured Lanthe doing almost the same thing, or if it was me I sure would have!

Emotionally, for me, this one hit a cord. The words used toward Lanthe were like daggers to my heart and I felt for her. I didn't want the couple to have a HEA, it seemed unlikely you can come back from that kind of verbal abuse. But being that these are "made up characters" and I invest waaaaay too much stock in the stories, it works out in this setting.

Overall, I can't express enough how talented and vibrant these stories are. Cole must have sold her soul to some demigod out there! This talent is beyond time and space in our galaxy and I look forward to the next creation she gives written birth to!

Sheep Book Review: MacRieve by Kresley Cole

MacRieve
By: Kresley Cole
Immortals After Dark (Book 13)
Paranormal Romance

Plot:
A BEAST IN TORMENT

Uilleam MacRieve believed he’d laid to rest the ghosts of his boyhood. But when a brutal torture revives those ancient agonies and destroys his Lykae instinct, the proud Scot craves the oblivion of death. Until he finds her—a young human so full of spirit and courage that she pulls him back from the brink.

A BEAUTY IN CHAINS

Seized for the auction block, Chloe Todd is forced to enter a terrifying new world of monsters and lore as a bound slave. When offered up to creatures of the dark, she fears she won’t last the night. Until she’s claimed by him—a wicked immortal with heartbreaking eyes, whose touch sets her blood on fire.

A FULL MOON ON THE RISE

With enemies circling, MacRieve spirits Chloe away to the isolated Highland keep of his youth. But once he takes her to his bed, his sensual mate becomes something more than human, evoking his savage past and testing his sanity. On the cusp of the full moon, can he conquer his worst nightmare to save Chloe…from himself?

***I tried to keep this as spoiler free as possible, read with caution***

Unlike previous Cole books, MacRieve switches gears with the main focus on the lead male and female. You get a little taste of previous characters, but it's a dash here and there. The brunt of the story is, to sum it up, a deep look into the emotional scars that abuse and child molestation can leave behind. A topic that should be addressed, but left me wanting more "umph" in the overall plot.

I've said it before and I'm saying it again here, Cole is a brilliant writer and one who has spoiled her readers. We are not beneath throwing a tantrum when we don't get our way. There was a major action-adventure dynamic that was missing this time around. No continental scavenger hunts or life or death treks across the globe to save someone. This installment is very stationary. The romance is there, but that's NEVER a problem with Cole's characters! Never.

I've got a special place in my heart for the wolves in this saga, I may even love them more then the vamps. (Which is saying something for the diehard vamp lover) These guys and gals are written in the greatest possible way. So far, each wolf male has been paired with a female from a race they despise. And through this earth shattering bond with their "mate", it forces them to overcome prejudice and find love. This story was best displayed in A Hunger Like No Other, I LOVE Lachlain and Emma and can read their story over an over! But MacRieve feels like a sale priced version of the same story.

Chloe is a strong character, as such I did not believe that she wouldn't walk out on Will and all his hoo-ha nonsense about her being the cause of all his pain. I get it, he was molested by someone of her race, but it was NOT her. She tells him this time and again, but sticks around anyway. The Lykae might have hunted her down sure, but damn you TRY and get out of there. He was her whipping post and it got old after the third time he yells at her for something out of her control. The care and nurture that has been shown in previous characters was missing this time around. Chloe was written in a fashion that may have reflected an interpretation of love, but love was not the message I received.

Overall there's more build up to the lore Accession, which I hope happens before I am old and grey because I really need to know how that turns out. I can't wait to see all these guys and gals kicking some butt! Nix is absolutely the mastermind of the whole saga and rightly so. She alone keeps me sucked into this fantastical world.

The best part of this series for me is the interchanging web of stories. Demons one book, sexy wolfs the next and then maybe some sassy witches. It's such a beautiful woven tapestry of tales that you never know which one you'll get next and where it takes place in the overall timeline. This saga can be picked up at any point, but the fun is in the journey!

I trust with every fiber of my being in Cole, and will absolutely continue to follow all of her stories. No "but" on the end of that sentence. However, I recommend that you prepare yourself for this one and check out what other reviewers are saying.

Looking forward to Cole's other series Endless Knight which hits shelves October 1st 2013!

Sheep Book Review: Lothaire by Kersley Cole

Lothaire, by author Kersley Cole, is the 12th novel in her Immortals After Dark series. Lothaire has been our main bad guy you love to hate since the beginning of the series and I was eagerly awaiting this release date. This book is a magnificent story told with classic Lothaire flare that flaunts his cunning and skill which cements him as the number one bad guy of the series. Turn me to the dark side and let's call it a day!

Plot:
Driven by his insatiable need for revenge, Lothaire, the Lore’s most ruthless vampire, plots to seize the Horde’s crown. But bloodlust and torture have left him on the brink of madness—until he finds Elizabeth Peirce, the key to his victory. He captures the unique young mortal, intending to offer up her very soul in exchange for power, yet Elizabeth soothes his tormented mind and awakens within him emotions Lothaire believed he could no longer experience.

Who doesn't love a guy that's surrounded by cops, under heavy gunfire, with his back to them no less, while holding a tense convo with his fated Bride. And here's the kicker: as bullets rain into his back he hisses over his shoulder... "One-moment!" LOL! This badass immortal beast is faaaar beyond an alpha, so much so that I don't think there's an ego level that could really ever convey the depths of his high-handed all-mighty attitude. BUT, somehow his personality works. When you're this far into the series fans have grown to love/hate this guy. He's just so utterly bad it's sexy as all get out! Plus he's got a body that the gods would kill for and incredibly lethal strength. *sigh* Now of course he's a fictional character so it's all "haha's" and "let's see what Loathire will do now", but in real life if a man EVER treated me as he treats others (like possessions) I'd burn has vampire butt to a crisp.

A deep concern for me was who in the world would ever be the right match for this vampire? As the 'Enemy of Old' this guy's got major emotional and mental issues, not to mention enemies galore coming out of the wood-work. So who in there right mind could ever fall for him? Hillbilly Elizabeth sets up to the plate and knocks it out of the park for a grand slam. She's all sass and mountain fun but don't think she ain't tough; the gal can hold her own against one of the strongest creatures in the Lore. Elizabeth takes knock down after knock down just to get back up and fight again. Despite being, thrown in jail, cruelly treated and mortal with no mystical powers she uses her cunning mind to best those around her time and time again, but how she ever put up with Lothaire's koo-koo crazy is beyond me.

Parts of the latest story get pretty fierce but anything less would have taken the bad out of Lotharie's ass. (And man, is that a sweet ass.) He's meant to be a gritty, take no prisoners, selfish kind of bastard and he meets those expectations time and time again in the book. With some of the best one liners Lothaire is belly-busting funny! An excellent read from start to finish with some smutty romance that's got be illegal in at least 3 States. Over all Lothaire is extremely well written and vividly depicted yet again showing why Cole is one of the best PNR authors on the shelf. Previous characters come back into play and new characters begin to stand out...sounds like more books to me!

My one and only downside to this review was the price tag for the Hard Cover book. It's not out in paperback atm so for those who have yet to get a Kindle or anything to the like this ended up costing me about $27. Pretty hefty for a roughly 400 page story. (Without sexy illustration pictures inside!) I paid it this time but I won't in the future, next time around I'll suck it up and wait for the paperback or borrow someone else's.

If you haven't guessed by now what the ending of this new chapter could possibly be then you'll be VERY surprised.

Pleasure Of A Dark Prince

Kersley Cole has brought the world her 9th book in the Immortals After Dark series and I could not be more pleased! This woman is an amazing author and I have loved all of her previous books, I will reread them until they fall apart. (or the drool ruins them whichever comes first)
This story takes the reader on the journey of Lucia and Garreth, two people from two very different worlds who come together by an unstoppable force.
One thing I love in a series is when previous characters are reoccurring, and Cole is a writer who gives you this in each of her books. I truly hate it when you like a story and then continue in a series only to never again read about pervious characters. Cole does not disappoint me in any way! Feel the wind in my hair!
Back to this book, I love a man who is confident and Garreth is so "that guy" maybe even too much so. He swears he's got it sewed up with Lucia, lol silly silly man tricks are for kids. The more she is pushed the more he chases and oh my does the boy chase!
Some great action chapters and witty dialog bring all this together for a fun wild ride that stretches across countries. Throw in some Tomb Raider action and your all set :)
This book and all her previous books are worth the read and come highly recommended.
