Gotta be honest with y'all...I'm not a big spring fan. Yeah, there are pretty flowers and trees for about a week but all those flowers and trees are having sex and we have to breath that mess in! So my wooly a** stays inside reading, watching TV or going to movies. Here are some of the things I'm looking forward to...

My favorite spooky read is the Bishop / Special Crime Unit series by Kay Hooper. There is also a spin off from the series that is just as good called the Bishop Files. Fear the Dark, book 16, in the Bishop / Special Crime Unit series which takes place in Serenity, Tenneesee where people are disappearing without a trace. The local authorities call in the Special Crimes Unit to try locate the missing people. The team sent is Agents Lucas and Samantha Jordan, Dante Swann and Robbie Hodge. Samantha is clairvoyant, Lucas has an ability that helps him find lost or abducted people, Dante is a medium and Robbie is a telepath. The next book to release in the series is Wait for Dark which is due out in March 2017! Hooper's books are dark and creepy which leaves me on the edge of my seat throughout every book!

The book is The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson and the movie is the 1963 film based on the book, The Haunting.

Why? Because the book is the only horror novel to scare me during the daytime, in a room full of fellow 8th grade junior high school students. It was my science class, and I was done with my project so the teacher let me read and the scene was where the two women were alone in the bedrooms when someone like a giant fist was pounding on the doors. It actually freaked me out. 

The first film adaption of it is very close to the book.

 My favourite spooky movie is the original Halloween (1978). It's a tradition in our house to watch Michael Myers hack up misbehaving teens over fall cocktails.

Salem's Lot by Stephen King (movie and book) freaked me the fork out!

Though she's not my all-time fave, I opted to choose a lesser-known heroine to avoid repetition. Mia is a recent standout for me, primarily because I identify with her. This sassy, sharp dressing, blonde hair, blue eyed girl is a whiskey drinker. I can find commonality and inevitable like-ability with any whiskey drinker. It's my "stress-elixir" too ;)

Sabina Kane from Jaye Wells

I'll offer up the heroine that lured me into reading and inevitably becoming a fan of urban fantasy, and that is Jaye Wells' Sabina Kane. I was drawn years ago to the title of a new novel, Red-Headed Stepchild, about an ass-kicking vampire serving as a kind of enforcer for her grandmother who just happens to be the queen of the vampire race. Sabina's father was a mage though, a sworn enemy of vampires, adding the star-crossed aspect of her heritage, as well as some other skeletons in the family closet that are revealed through the run of the series. She's tough, caring, driven, and snarky as heck. There's a lot to love in a character like that. Plus, I'm a sucker for a redhead.
