Sheep Movie Review: Captain Marvel (2019) Spoiler-free

Captain Marvel (2019)
Mar 8, 2019
Directed By: Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck
Written By: Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck, Geneva Robertson-Dworet
Cast:
Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, Annette Bening
Runtime: 128 minutes
Studio: Marvel Studios
Rating: PG-13 (for sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and brief suggestive language)
Genre: Action & AdventureScience Fiction & Fantasy
The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Went to see Captain Marvel with my 17-year-old daughter. We both loved it. We went in with very little knowledge of Captain Marvel's origin story. I thought they did a Flerken-great job and Marvel continues to make humorous action-packed entertainment.

There are a lot of surprise tie-ins with the other movies. We now know how Fury lost his eye!

I thought Brie Larson was a great choice. And the only skin she bared were her feet. Annette Benning was stunning. Jude Law looked good as ever. The only disappointing character was Carol Danver's best friend, Maria. There should have been more chemistry between them. And I thought the soundtrack was weak compared to other Marvel movies.

The real star of the movie is Goose...you'll just have to wait and see what I mean by that ;)

This is one you want to see on the big screen, just like all the other Marvel movies. Stick around for the two after credit scenes. One is directly related to Endgame and the other is silly fun.

Sheep Movie Review: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) Spoiler-free

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
16 November 2018
Director: David Yates
Writers: J.K. Rowling, J.K. Rowling (based upon characters created by)
Stars: Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Ezra Miller, Carmen Ejogo, Eddie Redmayne, Zoë Kravitz, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler,
Kevin Guthrie, Wolf Roth
Rating: PG-13
Runtime: 2h 14min
Genre: Adventure, Family, Fantasy
The second installment of the "Fantastic Beasts" series set in J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World featuring the adventures of magizoologist Newt Scamander.

Went to see The Crimes of Grindelwald with my 17-year-old daughter. We've both been waiting all year for this! And we weren't disappointed. This movie sheds light on a lot of Potter-verse history. It got a little confusing at some points trying to keep straight the different subplots and who is related to who but by the big reveal—Plot twist, there is a bigger reveal afterward—at the end, you know what's going on.

The special effects are big and fantastical and best suited for the big screen. And the fast-paced action starts in the first few minutes of the movie. Some of the action scenes get a little chaotic and you don't know where to look, but I would expect any fight involving magic to be a wild ride. I don't remember if this was the case in the first movie but there are a lot of close-ups in this one.

Newt Scamander is one of my favorite Potterworld characters. He is so charming and the actor does a great job with him. Jude Law isn't what I envisioned a younger Dumbledor to look like but I like looking at him so I went with it :) The character Nagini (you can guess what kind of creature she is by her name) is a cool character, but there was no point to her. She just followed Credence around. Nothing would have changed storywise if she had been left out. Johnny Depp as Grindelwald was a good choice. They finally let him play a character with no Jack Sparrow quirks. He does crazy well.

Can't give any details about the plot, but there are old and new beasts and lots of Potter-verse magic.

Sheep Movie Review: King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
May 12, 2017
Rating: PG-13 (for sequences of violence and action, some suggestive content and brief strong language)
Genre: Action & Adventure, Drama
Directed By: Guy Ritchie
Written By: Joby Harold, Guy Ritchie, Lionel Wigram
Cast: Charlie Hunnam, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Jude Law, Djimon Hounsou, Eric Bana
Acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie brings his dynamic style to the epic fantasy action adventure "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword." Starring Charlie Hunnam in the title role, the film is an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur's journey from the streets to the throne. When the child Arthur's father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur's uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy...whether he likes it or not.

Went to see King Arthur: Legend of the Sword with my husband and 16-year-old daughter. We all enjoyed it. They put a new spin on the King Arthur legend. So you had swords, magic, Charlie Hunnam and Jude Law...kind of hard to go wrong.

It would be easy to pick it a part, like the "critics" must have, but it was an entertaining action movie. I liked the way they used quick flashbacks to add humor. The magic special effects were top quality and there was a lot of fighting action. I was a little confused by the directors choice to put a Camera Go Pro pointed at a bunch of the actors during a chase scene...

Holly felt the story-telling was a little confusing, but still enjoyed it. I thought it was longer than it needed to be. If you love fantasy movies and a shirtless Charlie Hunnam breathing loudly, this is worth a matinee price.

Movie Review: Spy (20115)

Spy (2015)
Directed By: Paul Feig
Written By: Paul Feig
In Theaters: Jun 5, 2015
Runtime: 1 hr. 57 min.
Rating: R (for language throughout, violence, and some sexual content including brief graphic nudity)
Genre: Comedy
CAST: Melissa McCarthy, Jason Statham, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Morena Baccarin, Allison Janney, Jude Law
20th Century Fox - Official Site
Susan Cooper (Melissa McCarthy) is an unassuming, deskbound CIA analyst, and the unsung hero behind the Agency's most dangerous missions. But when her partner (Jude Law) falls off the grid and another top agent (Jason Statham) is compromised, she volunteers to go deep undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer, and prevent a global disaster. (C) Fox

I went with my husband and 14 year old daughter. This is a very funny movie. Not for those with delicate sensibilities. The F-word is in most sentences and there are some quick flashes of a man's penis that had my daughter shielding her eyes. The story moves a little slower than it needs too, but the funny parts make it worth the wait. It has a James Bond flare to the story with some Pink Panther characters. The trailer is a good representation of the movie and it doesn't contain all "the good parts."

Jason Statham is a riot, Jude Law is nice to look at and even though I don't think much of Melissa McCarthy's comedic timing she gets paired up with actors who do, making her awkwardness work for her.

You won't lose anything by watching on DVD vs the big screen. But if you are looking for some laughs at the theater on a hot day, this is worth a matinee price.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

***A double review from Danielle and Katie. MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS***

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows picks up right where the first movie left off, with Watson being studious like always and Holmes being well....Holmes.

I found this movie entertaining but not as much as the first one. Granted there were a few amazing scenes that will stick in my head, the story line and the investigative aspect seems to have been lost somewhere in there. I felt that the action took over where investigations should have been.

Enjoying the dark scenery, with there being small splashes of color added in at different times. The train scene was a lot of fun to see and it had a few laugh factors added in to make the ride a bit more interesting. The escape seen was done up a bit differently than most action movies, there was quite a bit of stop motion and slow motion shots to make it more dramatic over what would be big loud explosions.

The cat and mouse chase throughout the movie was somewhat tedious and repetitive. The technology was wrong for the time period that the movie was supposed to portray. The female lead was changed within the first 10 minutes or so I didn't seem to care for and the fact that the story had to backtrack to explain why this happened, didn't sit too well for me.

I would recommend this movie, but only to those that have seen the first movie.

I'd give this 3 sheep.

~DD~

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, directed by Guy Richie, stars Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Naomi Rapace, Jared Harris and Stephen Fry. It's an action-packed snarky camp-fest for the ages, I enjoyed every single minute of the over the top detective crime story.

Plot:
Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) has always been the smartest man in the room...until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large-Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris)-and not only is he Holmes' intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective. When the Crown Prince of Austria is found dead, the evidence, as construed by Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan), points to suicide. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder-a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more portentous puzzle, designed by Professor Moriarty. The cunning Moriarty is always one step ahead of Holmes as he spins a web of death and destruction-all part of a greater plan that, if he succeeds, will change the course of history.

Robert brings the eccentric grit in his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes. I absolutely love this man's ability to take on a character and slay them. He's over the top and hokey but he IS that version of Holmes and by Jove he's got it! Jude's the best Watson companion by far, the man takes the licks from his pal and boy does he keep ticking. These guys have some of the best male to male banter out there today, I've not seen anything this sweet since Will and Martin in Bad Boys. It really takes two guys who you can tell have this same dialog off screen to really pull this off.

On the down side, and ps total spoiler moment here, a major scene which is shown in the trailers was sadly cut from the final movie. Stop reading right now if you don't want to know. The train scene that has Robert dressed in women's clothing and Jude pointing a gun in his face with the dialog loosely being about getting a gun out my face and Jude saying its not in your face its in my hand. Gone! A whole fun bit that also ties into the first Sherlock is cut from the movie! Fear not good readers my email of complaint has been sent out to the powers that be in Hollywood. But more then anything I missed out on more Sherlock banter!

You get to meet Sherlock's brother Mycroft, and what a character that guy is! These two are cut of the same cloth and that's all I'm going to say. It was awesome seeing my girl from the Swedish Dragon Tattoo series and I hope Hollywood will be picking her up for more roles in the future. Moriarty is one bad dude and Vicious with a capital V but he gets you really pulling for Sherlock and company. A tad predictable in parts towards the beginning but as the story picks up you really have little clue what could happen next.

I was lucky enough to screen this movie with my brother who as it turns out has read three of the novels from this series and while he was able to give me much more insight to the characters overall I'm frankly glad to be just watching the movies. I will recommend based on just what he's told me that if you've yet to dig one out you absolutely should.

Over the top action and adventure keep you entertained through the longer then normal runtime, awesome cinematography I've yet to actually see. Some cutting edge graphics are being utilized by Richie and team bringing Sherlock to the front of this Holiday season of movies. It also had an awesome score by Hans Zimmer, and I freaking love Hans. If you liked the first Holmes I'd recommend this one for you, if you're not sure of the series or have yet to see the first please check around at other reviews. I'm personally hoping to see a few award nods coming these boys ways and I'm waiting on pins and needles to see if the series will continue once again!
