Alpha Male Diner: Kane (immortal warrior) by Gena Showalter

I sat down with a few of my closest friends (Kresley Cole, Jill Monroe and Roxanne St. Claire) to discuss the perfect recipe for Kane, the hero of The Darkest Craving. Here’s what we came up with:

Kane (Immortal Warrior)
recipe created by Gena Showalter

The Darkest Craving (Lords of the Underworld #10)

250 pounds of Grade A filet (zero fat)

Marinate overnight in bad attitude for flavor
Tenderize by pounding the meat (feel free to use your nails)
Season with testosterone and alpha-tendencies
Add a smidgen of sugar
A dash of cockiness
A pinch of pride
A heap of cunning
Braise with smoldering sexiness
Sizzle over high heat till scorching (goal: melt in your mouth delicious)

Presentation: serve shirtless, and in black leather.

Taste Test

His skin prickled, and maybe he moved. Maybe he spoke. Her gaze lifted to meet his. Her lips parted on a startled exhalation. Could she see the rawness of his need?

“Kane.” A breathy entreaty.

In that moment, the cry of the demon ceased to matter. The past faded, leaving only the present…the future, and the unstoppable tide of the pleasure to come. Every bone vibrated. He needed to get inside her. Here. Now.

It would be agony.

It would be ecstasy.

Tension coiled low in his gut, only to spring apart and jolt him into a stand. “Leave us,” he said, his voice a broken rasp.

No questions. No protests. The two seamstresses flittered from the room, shutting the door behind them.

The teapot shattered on the tray, dark liquid spilling everywhere. Defeat’s newest attempt to deter him.

Tink didn't seem to notice, was too busy watching him. “I-is something wrong?”

Silent, he stalked toward her. A predator with a purpose. He was done resisting. Done thinking about all the reasons why not. Today, he was taking something.

Perhaps sensing the dark, greedy urges driving him, she straightened with a snap.

Her breathing quickened. “Kane,” she said.

“Tell me to stop.” He stood a mere heartbeat away, their gazes locked together, trapped. Nothing else would halt the madness.

“I…I can’t.”

Sheep Book Review: The Darkest Craving by Gena Showalter

The Darkest Craving
Lords of the Underworld (Book 14)
Paranormal Romance

Plot:
New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter is back with a breathtaking Lords of the Underworld tale about a warrior trapped by darkness and the woman determined to save him

Having endured weeks of torture in the bowels of hell, Kane wants nothing to do with his beautiful rescuer, Josephina Aisling. The half-Fae female threatens to awaken the demon of Disaster inside him—a beast he's determined to kill, no matter the price.

Josephina is hunted by a brutal enemy—her royal family—and Kane is her only source of protection. He's also the only male to ever set her aflame, and even he succumbs to the heat. But as they navigate the treacherous world of the Fae, they are forced to make a choice: live apart…or die together.

Gena Showalter is hands down, one of the best PNR writers out there today. That being said, was this latest story epic beyond compare? No, but does it really matter in the overall grand scale of this saga? Heck no! If you are looking for some of the best pieces of PNR writing out there you will find it in this series.

For those that have followed the Lords from the start, you may be wanting more of the hard hitting action and snarky characters Gena brings. We are spoiled rotten with this author, she almost did a bad thing by giving us all we could ever hope for so early on. Now, we want that same explosion each and every time. We want more, we want more! Can the craving ever be filled? Hades no, and I would not have it any other way. :)

There's been so much talk about Gena's new writing style and how it has affected this story, I didn't see that all. This latest book is actually much closer to how we've come to crave her hot and steamy romance. What I had issues with, in this installment, was the action adventure portion of the story. In return we get a fairytale feeling which is not typical for the Lords. Some major editing down of the excess plot needed to be done here. Add to that the wishy-washy hot and cold leading man and it became a little hard to muscle at times. But keep in mind, this is small potatoes compared to the overall awesomeness that is this saga.

When you're invested in the characters, you pull for them and ache when they do. These guys and gals are so vividly written it's hard to think of them as fictional. Wacky as that may sound, but in my heart I love them.

Did Josephine and Kane blow me away, no not really. But ask me again if I care? I don't! I'll pick up a Gena book any day of the week and enjoy it regardless. She's a master at her craft and deserves all the credit she gets.

You want a good read that will entertain you, grab this saga and hang on!
