Sunday Swag: Ashlyn Chase

Sunday Swag Team!
Riverina Romantics
 I Smell Sheep

Featured Author: Ashlyn Chase

About the Author:
Ashlyn Chase has been a registered nurse for 20 years. During those years, she wrote articles for professional journals and a thesis, but eventually, thank goodness, discovered the joy and freedom of writing fiction.

Ashlyn considers herself lucky. Her degree in behavioral sciences is a combination of psychology and sociology, so she has worked with and studied people most of her life. She never has to write out exhaustive character sketches to understand her characters or predict how they will behave.  That doesn't mean they don't surprise her. Sometimes they take her on grand unexpected journeys. For her, it gives "character driven novels" a whole new meaning.
Ashlyn has learned to go with the flow. To enjoy the journey is not only one of her writing goals, but also a challenge in life so she tries to follow where the story takes her. As such, she has lived in 17 different places over the years. At last, she's all settled down and comfy in New England.

Book Review: Marked For Magic by Daisy Banks

Marked For Magic
by Daisy Banks

Kindle Edition
April 28th 2015
by Lyrical Press
The witch mark on Nin’s hand is a curse. She has no magic powers, whatever the lore says. But the village believes. The old crone’s wisdom is to see her banished. Ragged and hungry, she must serve the Mage. Alone in his tower, she is his chattel. But Mage Thabit is not what Nin expected—the bright green eyes and supple form under his cloak are not the stuff of nightmares, and kindness hides in his brusque heart. Thabit senses that Nin is more than she seems, too. When true nightmares haunt the land, it is precisely her elusive powers that might deliver them.

Marked for Magic is a fairytale of types. The tale unfolds with Nin, a young woman cast out of her village for baring the mysterious witch’s mark on her hand. With no other options, Nin finds herself on the door step of Mage Thabit and at his mercy. Ignoring his initial instinct to unceremoniously dismiss the unkempt girl, Thabit reluctantly admits her into his home as a servant. The two settle into a routine and, predictably, come to find one another irresistible. Nin comes of age learning from Thabit and the magical community; readying her skills for the ultimate test.

I was initially attracted to this book for its stunning cover design. I love pretty things. But the cover was slightly more entrancing than the text within. It was a quick, entertaining read, but in no way life-altering. It was fairly predictable throughout. I liked the growing tension between Nin and Thabit, but I really couldn’t get into Thabit as a romantic love interest. I just couldn’t lose myself in a poetically poor, straw-hat-wearing, slender, vegetarian. Maybe he reminded me of a guy I dated in my 20s, who can be similarly described. Maybe I just really like meat. Maybe he’s just too divergent from the filthy rich, muscle-bound alpahs I’ve become accustomed to. Whatever the case, he just didn’t do it for me. However, Banks does a good job of convincing the reader of Nin’s utter devotion and attraction to Thabit. I bought into their romance as something sweet and touching. Ultimately, I found Marked for Magic to be a charming, quaint tale, but lacking in memorable spark.

Cat lovers rejoice for the Hero Cats are back again!
Once again readers are invited to join the six extraordinary cats on another adventure to save Stellar City and the people they love!

For this particular adventure, Cassiopeia is surprised to find out that her human family is hiding super powers of their own. Cassie’s fellow super cats are suspicious of their intentions and order Cassie to find out just what the humans up to. Her work is interrupted by an invasion of space bugs and the fight is on to protect their city!

I love how each cat has their individual personality, Cassie being the sweet, sometimes naïve one and Midnight being the more suspicious one. I’m still getting to know the rest of the gang but it’s no hardship since they’re all so dang cute!

The artwork is simple yet eye catching and the dialogue between characters is quick, witty and easy to follow even if this is your first adventure with these unique felines. The comic itself isn’t very long and can appeal to all ages but certainly cat lovers will enjoy picking their favorite feline. That is, if it’s possible to chose just one!

Whether you’re a cat person or not, you have to admit, having a comic book about superhero cats is pretty neat. At least I think so.

Book Review: A Bewitching Christmas (Under Realm Assassins #1) by Amanda J. Greene

A Bewitching Christmas (Under Realm Assassins #1)
by Amanda J. Greene
ebook, 75 pages
Published December 16th 2013
It has been seven years since Analette Dyson stopped practicing magic and headed to New York, where she created a new life, complete with a fabulous job, an apartment in Central Park West, and a sexy werewolf fiancé. She never planned on returning to her small home town in Maine, but when she learns her grandmother is ill, she decides to pop over for a visit and what better time than Christmas? Excited for her fiancé to meet her family, they head up a day early.

Worst idea ever!

After doing some last minute Christmas shopping, Analette returns to their hotel to find her fiancé in bed with another woman. Cursing the universe for her never ending bad luck with men and dreading telling her family about her cheating fiancé, she heads to the bar to self medicate.

Not one to celebrate the holidays, vampire and assassin, Cole McRae, has followed a lead to a rustic town in witch territory. But after a few days of research and waiting for his target to show, he begins to suspect he has wasted his time. That is, until he meets a curvaceous blonde with bewitching green eyes at the local bar. One night with the enchanting Analette could make this useless trip well worth his time.

Their passion is undeniable and unbeknownst to them, their fates are intertwined. Magic and romance will strike on Christmas, changing their lives forever.
~ A Holiday Novella, Erotic~

Imagine finding your wolf fiancé in bed with another woman days before Christmas. That’s what happened to Analette Dyson one of the four remaining Dyson witches. To top it off she was bringing her fiancé home to meet her family. She has not returned home since her father’s death, a death she blames herself for. She did not plan to even come back but learning of her grandma becoming ill and Christmas just a couple days away what better time to also introduce him to her family right? Wrong! Needing a drink is an understatement. The local bar was the perfect place to be (Quoted by Amanda Greene): a stumbling drunk if she were to forget even for a precious second the image of her now ex-fiancé screwing some enthusiastic women who had twin tattoos of butterflies on the backs of her thighs. OUCH!

Cole Rae a vampire assassin is now in witch territory chasing a lead who has yet to show up. Cole was about to give up and head out of town not wanting to waste his time any longer. Well that was until a blond woman with bewitching green eyes shows up at the local bar where he just happens to be throwing back a few. Of course he was going to buy a drink, maybe two.

Cole and Analette, a one night stand sure why not, she was feeling good, he was hot. Not sure you can even put stand in the same sentence. Standing they certainly they were not. This being a short novella did not leave us dry in the hot steamy sex area.

The characters were likable; I have to say grandma was my favorite. I would have liked to have read a little more about her background. It was an interesting plot with some twist and turns I did not expect.

I do enjoy Amanda Green’s writing, they are typically light fun and easy to read A Bewitching Christmas does not disappoint and I definitely recommend.
