Excerpt: A Wife for the Werewolf (Monster Match Book 1) by Rose Kent + giveaway

Matchmaking monsters, one heart at a time.

A Wife for the Werewolf (Monster Match Book 1)

by Rose Kent
Genre: Paranormal Romance
After inheriting her grandmother's business, Potion Palace, witch Kate Halloway struggles to keep it afloat. In a bold move inspired by the booming world of online matchmaking, she and her best friend Cassie launch Monster Match, a dating service for supernatural beings, hoping to boost sales.

But when their first client, alpha werewolf Trent Everwood, finds success with their help, a rival coven creates their own competing service using Kate's potion recipes. To make matters worse, a death occurs at one of their events. Kate becomes a prime suspect and must fight to clear Monster Match's name.

Trent also has his hands full as humans start breaking treaty laws and trespassing on pack lands. And just when things couldn't get any more complicated, a match between him and Kate threatens the stability of their lives. Can they save Monster Match from scandal and protect the Potion Palace?

Chapter 1
Kate
Adulting… the bane of my existence. I didn’t imagine myself saddled with so much financial responsibility before thirty. I pondered my current situation while seated at the small desk in the back of the Potion Palace, my grandmother’s shop, surrounded by stacks of bills and a calculator perched precariously atop them. This was my least favorite part of running a business—the constant battle of making ends meet and trying to stay afloat. I vowed when I inherited this business, I’d do everything in my power to make it succeed.

I groaned into my lukewarm tea as the bell above the door jangled, making me jump. Looking up from the ledger where I keep all my expenses, I watched Cassie burst into the shop with far too much energy for this early in the morning. Waving my fingers above my cup, I chanted a warming spell to add some oomph to my morning pick-me-up.

Dust swirled in the air behind Cassie’s hurried movements. Her dark hair was pulled back in a hasty ponytail, strands escaping to frame her face. “You didn’t call me on the way into work this morning. What’s wrong?”

I watched in awe as Cassie pinned me with an intense stare, all while pulling the dusting cloth from under the register and wiping down the ancient bottles that lined the shelves. Cobwebs stuck to her cloth, but she kept moving. Cassie was a hurricane, an unstoppable force, especially when she fretted over things, which was often.

“Cassie, what are you doing?” I asked, taking another sip of my morning tea.

“Inventory,” she answered without pausing, her tone clipped. Another bottle, another swipe of the cloth. Her movements were mechanical, almost robotic. “If you’re mad at me, just tell me, Kate.”

I stepped around the corner and placed my hand on her shoulder. “Cassie, I'm not mad at you. I’m also not giving you the silent treatment,” I smirked, trying to hide my grin. “I’m conflicted.”

“Conflicted about what? I know when you are off, and it’s obvious.” Her blue eyes scanned the room like she was looking for a clue.

"Cass," I finally said, trying to force a smile. "Business has been slow, as you know. The reason I didn't call this morning is because I was occupied with the bank. I currently owe them two months' rent."

Cassie raised an eyebrow as she leaned against the counter, her posture relaxing but her gaze sharp. “It’s the weather. Spring in this area is drab at best. Who would want to shop?” Cassie continued to ramble on. “Summer is our busy season. We should prepare for that.”

I smiled, appreciating Cassie’s interpretation of the situation. But even her attempt at explaining away the lack of business fell flat as she resumed dusting and organizing, moving a jar of eye of newt a fraction to the left.

She wasn’t wrong. This lazy, coastal New England beach town was always busier in the summer and fall. Before long, tourists would come strolling in, talking animatedly about the lighthouse and the delicious lobster rolls they had for lunch. In the meantime, I needed to be patient and find a way to make some money.

Book Review: Dust Born: A Small Town Shifter Romance (Cambio Springs Book 4) by Elizabeth Hunter

Dust Born: (Cambio Springs Book 4)
By: Elizabeth Hunter
Pages: 296
Genre: paranormal romance, shifter, werewolf, small town
Sean Quinn returned to Cambio Springs to help his family find their way out of trouble—not uncommon in this desert town of shapeshifters—but before he can hit the road again, a new threat emerges on the border of his family home, a threat that could leave Sean stuck in the Springs just when he’s most desperate to leave.

And one unsuspecting human might be stuck right there with him.

Ever since Juniper Hawkins came to Cambio Springs to visit her big brother, strange things keep happening, not the least was running into the man who’d almost made her change her wandering ways. Juni wasn’t the kind of woman who settled down, even when the object of her affection was a tall, dark, and handsome photographer who kissed her senseless then abandoned her in Southeast Asia.

Not that she was still irritated about that.

DUST BORN is a brand new novel in the Cambio Springs Mysteries, a paranormal romance series by ten time USA Today Bestselling author, Elizabeth Hunter.

Amazon

Dust Born is book 4 in the Cambio Springs series by Elizabeth Hunter. The series hadn’t seen a new book in quite some time & it was refreshing to read this new one. I’ve been a long-time fan of her books and true to her nature, this book was interesting, fun, and a great read.

Sean Quinn is a snake shifter and a travel photographer. Normally, he’s on the road working but when a threat comes to Cambio Springs, he must hang up his camera to protect his family and get to the bottom of the threat. Juniper Hawkins works with Sean but also has family in Cambio Springs and has been in love with Sean for a long time, not that he can commit to anything. With this mysterious threat on the horizon, each of the shifter clans are patrolling and protecting the occupants of Cambio Springs, even the humans. Many secrets plague this town but some will finally come to light at last.

Excerpt: Smoke (The Ardelean Bloodlines) by Sarah Jaeger

Smoke (The Ardelean Bloodlines)
by Sarah Jaeger
March 23rd, 2023
Genre: Shifter Romance/ Paranormal Romance
Thalia
Apparently ignoring my parents’ politics wasn’t the right move. Shifters were outed to the public, and months later, I’m still unsure what the big deal is about.

Now my life is in danger and the only one who can protect me is the true king of the wolves.

Cade is nothing like what my mom and the press show shifters to be. He’s thoughtful, reserved… and have you seen his butt in those jeans?

Cade
Having abdicated the throne, I’ve vowed to stay out of shifter politics.

Now, my sole responsibility, for the next six weeks, is to make sure no idiots can completely derail the deal I’ve cut with the one woman holding all the cards.

The problem is… the threats against Thalia Clark are nothing compared to the danger of my wolf, now that he’s claimed this human as his.

I’ll kill to protect my mate, but is keeping up my end of the deal enough to save her?

Smoke is the first book in the Ardelean Bloodline series. While this story does contain an HEA for Cade and Thalia, there is an ongoing plot connecting each book in the series. Each book will need to be read in order. There are open door, explicit scenes as well as colorful language not intended for young readers.

What is she thinking about? Is it what we talked about with Ansel or something more? I step closer, testing her guarded nature. “Country life is dull. I don’t exactly work here, which means I’m pretty much stuck to whatever chores Ansel’s left around the house, and you’re left to whatever sanity-keeping activities you can find. I guess if you’re feeling adventurous . . .” I shrug. “Have you ever been to Arches?”

“No, I’ve heard it’s beautiful, but this is my first time in Utah.”

Thalia’s eyes light up, and I know the answer.

“Would you like to go today?” I ask slowly.

Thalia starts nodding. I smile, seeing her excitement. “Ansel’s right, it’s been too long since I’ve given The Leviathan a little bit of time to run. Plus, I think it would be beneficial for you to meet a wolf, in a positive environment, with someone who’s in control before someone else can further taint the experience. I know Sherman was a little upsetting for you. I can ask Ansel or Ezra, but their wolves are pretty scary looking if you’re not used to looking at wolves.” I pause and give her a smirk licking my bottom lip before sighing. “They’re also not really fucking fluffy.”

“Did you just ask me to take your wolf on a walk?” she returns with a sly smile, raising an eyebrow.

Her comment catches me off guard, and my face heats. There are so many different ways I could answer. But she started it. Thalia was comfortable enough with me to crack a joke. I shrug and release my bottom lip from between my teeth.

Tell our mate. The Leviathan encourages with the image of a ceremonial collar wrapping around Thalia’s neck. I feel him brush and know my eyes just went gold.

My version is dirtier. “Not quite. I’m not following any of the leash laws. And if anyone will be doing any collaring, it’ll be me clasping one around your neck. If there’s going to be any tying, it’ll be you to the bed, while I show you all the ways I can make you scream my name.”

A chill rips through Thalia’s body, and she shudders, her whole body standing taller. I step into her personal space. Thalia wobbles, looking up at me. I watch her wet her bottom lip with her tongue. Drawing a deep breath, I catch the scent of her arousal.

The Leviathan paces. Give mate wolf, we run together.

“Easy, Draga Mea.” I kiss her forehead. When I step back, I see her trying to figure out the cute nickname The Leviathan’s given her. Only having the briefest memory of Romanian spoken in the home growing up, even I had to look it up. My Darling. I could tell her, but I’m not sure she’s ready.

A backpack, snacks, water, and a trip to the restroom later, I walk Thalia out of the house and to the garage. The classic pickup truck Ansel loves so much is right where it always is. Thalia seems impressed when the old Ford roars to life. I just smile. Ansel’s love for this truck runs deep, and I’d be surprised if it didn’t turn over.

We’re somewhere farther onto Ansel’s property and close to the border with the national park. It’s a gamble that we may come across someone. It’s not common for tourists to make it out this far, but we’ll have to be in the national park to see some cool rock formations. It’s selfish and maybe a bit cocky to risk bringing her into public like this, but I want her to have a positive experience. I know The Leviathan is set on wanting to give her a wolf, but not so badly that he would sabotage all the progress we’re making in having her accept wolves and what this life looks like.

We find Ansel’s secret entrance to Arches National Park. It’s denoted by an old wooden trunk tucked off the side of the gravel trail behind some scrub brush.

Putting the old Ford in park, I turn in my seat to look at her. “Two rules.”

Thalia’s eyes go wide, and there’s the smallest hint of fear.

“Okay . . .” She draws out the last syllable.

“Don’t run. The Leviathan will chase. I’m worried he’ll push you down and you’ll get hurt. Humans are breakable compared to wolves, and even a friendly little shove could hurt you,” I caution.

Thalia nods. “The second one?”

“Breathe.” I lock eyes with her. “Enjoy this and know I’m here.”

Shifter (The Healer Chronicles, #2)

by Michael J. Bowler
April 12th 2022
Genres: Horror, Science Fiction, Young Adult
Fifteen-year-old Alex and his learning-disabled friends barely survived the events of Spinner, but their nightmare has only just begun.

Alex’s wheelchair has never stopped him from doing what he wants, but his supernatural power to heal every human ailment known to science has put him in the crosshairs of a dangerous doomsday cult that will stop at nothing to capture him and his long-lost twin, Andy, who can shift illness from one person to another. When the boys combine their “gifts,” they unleash the power to control life and death.

Now Alex, Andy, and the others have been kidnapped by the U.S. military. On a creepy Air Force base in the remote Nevada desert, they must decide who to trust and who to fear while uncovering secrets this base wants to hide from the world. Who is the young boy with unusual abilities who’s treated like a soldier? What is hidden in an ultra-secret hangar that no one can access? And what unnatural experiments are conducted in that closed-off laboratory?

As Alex unravels these mysteries, he strives to bond with his twin, but Andy is distant and detached, trusting no one. He’s also more attracted to the dangerous power they wield than Alex would like. When misplaced faith in science ignites a hidden lust for supremacy, rescue can only come from the most unlikely source, and Alex must confront a terrible truth.

The Healer Chronicles continue…

He felt eyes on him and realized Andy was staring again. He held up his near-empty bottle. “Water?”

Andy nodded, so Alex reached around behind Roy’s lolling head to snag a second bottle, tossing it toward Andy. Even though the bottle was perfectly aimed for an easy catch, Andy didn’t even raise his arms. The bottle struck his chest and dropped into his lap. Andy’s blue eyes flashed with anger, the piercing cobalt color almost burning with fire.

“Why did you do that?” His hard tone unnerved Alex.

“You, uh, was supposed to, you know, catch it.”

When Andy just stared at him with complete incomprehension, Alex tossed his own bottle into the air and caught it deftly with his right hand. Andy still didn’t react, but the surge of anger in those pools of blue faded.

Alex furrowed his brow as he cradled his almost empty bottle. “Didn’t no one ever teach you to play catch?”

Andy shook his head, his long blond hair swaying back and forth like dangling vines.

Alex began to understand that Andy hadn’t experienced even the most basic childhood experiences.

And I thought I had it bad!

He offered a smile. “It’s okay, bro. We’s together now, so I’ll help you learn all the stuff you missed. Long as it don’t got much reading or math in it.” He chuckled, but Andy’s impassive expression told him that, once again, his brother didn’t get the joke.

Well, Alex thought, we have the rest of our lives to figure each other out. Long as we can stay free.

He frowned at the last thought as he observed Andy twisting the cap off his bottle and swigging almost the entire contents in a loud, single gulp.

“Did you ever, you know, do the death thing to the doctor too?”

Andy shook his head again. “The others were careful after Teacher, and I never got another chance. I did get another teacher, though.”

Alex leaned forward in his chair to listen with keen interest because an unsettling feeling had just come over him. “What did that one look like?”

“You have already seen Teacher. At the place where we saved Roy. Long yellow hair and a different shaped body from mine or yours.”

Alex froze, his breathing on hold.

Ms. G!

“I know it looked like Teacher was dead, but that wasn’t true,” Andy went on conversationally, oblivious to the fear Alex felt squeezing his heart like a clenched fist, “I don’t think this one can be killed like the other one. That’s what Doctor told me, anyway.”

Alex sat back in his chair, weak with renewed despair. He’d seen her shot when she tried to run away. He’d seen her fall. He’d thought his greatest enemy was finally gone.

“You sure she’s alive?”

“She?” Andy tilted his head in confusion. “I don’t know that word. If you mean Teacher, then yes, I’m sure.”

Tight with renewed fear, Alex glanced at the others slumbering peacefully around him.

It wasn’t over, after all.

Book Review: Moon Scorned (Raven Moon Wolves #1) by Marty Mayberry

Moon Scorned (Raven Moon Wolves #1)
by Marty Mayberry
January 5th, 2022
Genre: Upper YA/ Shifter/ Paranormal Romance
I fell hard and fast for the alpha of an elite pack.

Then he rejected me.

Everly

Asher took off when I needed him most, rejecting me and my inner wolf. Then my half-sister is murdered at an exclusive college that’s enshrouded in magic and secrets. When the school offers me a scholarship, I accept and move onto campus. I’m going to find out who killed her, then rip them apart. And if I run into Asher while I’m there? He’ll learn I’m no longer his sweet little thing. He’s about to taste the fury of a wolf shifter scorned.

Asher

Everly’s everything to me, but to protect her, I had to shove her away. If I go near her, the Drudge Pack will discover who she truly is. My father—their enforcer—will kill her. But when she shows up at Ravenmire College, my inner wolf hungers. I’ll do anything to keep her safe—even if that means sacrificing myself and betraying my dangerous family.

Great start of a new series for the YA (high school+). The author wasted no time getting to the purpose and meat of the story and drawing you into the lives of Asher and Everly.

This story mixes angst, mystery, and “attempted” chivalry with the paranormal romance of the shifters. Well, there is a little twist to the full shifter side of Everly which makes it a lot more interesting.

How strong is the pull of “fated” mates? Would you give them up to save one?

There are witches, shifters, mafia “wolf” clans, and fae. This recipe makes for all kinds of interesting interactions and options for star-crossed lovers. As in a lot of romances, jealousy rears its head early with a few opportunistic characters ready to increase the divide between Asher and Everly. Although this seems to be a love story, when Everly’s sister dies at college, She takes it upon herself to discover what happened and accepts the invitation to attend the same dangerous institution.

This is an easy, no-drag read and should be checked out even if you are not a YA reader. It has all the goods!

Getting 4 sheep from me.

Excerpt: Just a Phase (Not Another Teen Wolf, #1) by M.J. Marstens + giveaway

Just a Phase (Not Another Teen Wolf, #1)
by M.J. Marstens
August 31st, 2021
Genres: New Adult, Paranormal, Romance
Bullshit is spelled ‘You’re a werewolf’.

First, my parents tell me I’m going to be “checking into the Red Roof Inn” every month, and now, they tell me I’m a werewolf?!

Add to that I need to pick a mate and enter into some wolfy marriage—NOPE.

Not.

Going.

To.

Happen.

They can’t make me.

Everyone thinks this is just a phase but nineteen is the new two—and I’m going to show them how terrible I can be.

Buckle up, bitches, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

EXCERPT:
“I'll tell you in exchange for something,” I bargain.

Rue squints at me warily.

“What?”

“I'll tell you where we're going and what we're doing, if you give me a kiss.”

I hear Rue’s heartbeat speed up at these words. She might say she wants the omega as her mate, but her body is finely tuned to mine. Her tongue darts out to wet her lips, and I nearly groan at the sight. Her eyes are heavy-lidded, and she's sending out all the right signals. She just needs to turn off her brain. I see her body war with her mind, and I know the moment her flesh wins. Her lithe frame becomes soft, and she leans in towards me.

“One kiss—that’s all.”

“One kiss,” I promise, leaning over.

“Well, not now!” Rue shrieks. “You're driving!”

I chuckle at her outrage.

“Okay, when we get there, then.”

Exactly thirty seconds later, I stop the car.

“What are you doing?” she demands.

“We're here—and I want my kiss.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa! Backup, buddy! You're not getting that smooch for free. You tell me where we are right now.”

Rue peers out her window into the night. She hasn't admitted it, but I know she can't see anything. I wish she would tell me more about why she's not like a normal wolf, but trust will come with time. If I want her to confide in me, I need to respect Rue’s boundaries.

“We're at my grandma's house,” I finally confess, making her gasp.

“Your grandma's house?!”

“I told you I was going to feed you homemade tortillas and margaritas. What better place than at my grandma's where you can meet my family, too.”

“But—but—but—” she splutters, “we could’ve done this back at the mansion!”

“Nah. I only make tortillas and margaritas at my abuela’s. Do you not want to meet them?”

“It's not that—it's just this is like tenth date shit, ya know?”

“I'm working with only three and a half days, so I'm speeding things up,” I remind with a wink.

Rue snorts.

“I'd say. Well, don't think you can just skip all the bases and go to home plate, mister!” she admonishes severely.

“I know that's a sports analogy, but I don't get it,” I admit.

Rue’s tinkling laugh dances around us, and I can sense her irritation at my date plan fading away.

“Not a human saying you know, huh? It means that first base is kissing, second base is er, feeling one another up… third base is—shit. You know what? I don’t even know what the bases really are anymore except for first and home. Everyone changes them, but first is always kissing and home plate is when you finally bump uglies. You know—”

“Yes, I know,” I cut in. “Humans make sports analogies for sex?”

“Yep.”

“Strange. If I promise not to shoot it in your hoop before you dribble my balls, can we just try a kiss?”

Rue clutches her stomach as she bends, giggling hysterically.

“That's not a saying!” she wheezes.

“Well, how am I supposed to know which sports analogies work and don't work?”

I get out of the car and walk over to her side. Smoothly, I open her door and pull her out to me.

“Now, about that kiss.”

Excerpt: Bachelor Beast (Interstellar Brides Program: The Beasts #1) by Grace Goodwin

Bachelor Beast
(Interstellar Brides Program: The Beasts #1)

by Grace Goodwin
May 14th 2020
Genres: Adult, Romance, Science Fiction
Warlord Wulf thought nothing could be worse than being tortured and contaminated by the Hive. That was before he’s ordered to transport to Earth and represent The Colony in an unfamiliar horror… a human reality show. The Bachelor Beast is the hottest new program on Earth, but being set up with two dozen clingy females is not his idea of a good time. When his Beast refuses to show the slightest interest in any of the show’s potential mates, he knows he must choose one or die due to his raging mating fever.

His Beast prefers execution to claiming anyone but his true mate. Wulf is resigned to his fate, a one-way trip to Atlan, a prison cell and execution. It is the only honorable thing left to do.

Until one glance, one sweet, feminine scent lingering in the air and his beast rages for a female who is not supposed to be his.

But try telling that to his Beast when his entire body transforms on live television and one simple word thunders from his lips…MINE.

I took a step closer, careful of the thick cords across the floor while remaining behind the cameras. Wulf’s hands gripped the arms of his chair as if they were keeping him from flying away. Maybe because I looked at people’s faces all the time, I could often tell what they were feeling, or maybe Wulf was equally bad at hiding his emotions.

I’d lusted after him. Drooled over him. Dreamed of him. I hadn’t really thought of the toll this show was taking on him. Had he truly volunteered for this? He looked about as enthused to be sitting here as someone in the waiting room before a colonoscopy. Was what Chet had said true? Would he die if he didn’t pick Genevieve or Willow? Was he really going to be executed?

Was his life so bad that he’d choose execution over the women? Not once in the three weeks of taping had Chet asked him what he was looking for in a mate. Everyone assumed, including me, that Wulf was whittling down the ladies to his favorites, to the one he’d give his cuffs.

Now I wasn’t so sure.

The show dragged on, as they had a one-hour time slot, with plenty of commercial breaks to heighten the anticipation. I was ready to scream by the time Chet stopped his inane questions and finally got down to the business at hand. The choice. Wulf’s choice.

“It’s finally time. Genevieve, Willow…” Chet spoke and the ladies took a step closer. The lights dimmed except for a focused beam on the gleaming cuffs in the glass case.

I moved around another camera to be as close as I could but remain behind the scenes. We were all in shadows, the large set being lit only by the stage.

“Warlord Wulf. It is time.”

Wulf slowly rose to his feet.

“Who is going to be your bride? Genevieve or Willow?”

Mary, a wardrobe tech, moved to stand beside me but bumped my shoulder, pushing me forward. I gasped and stopped my forward momentum out of sheer panic. I didn’t get in the way, but my heart was in my throat. Mary’s hand settled on my shoulder, and she mouthed a sorry along with a small smile.

I looked back at the stage, at what I’d been waiting for since the first episode. But Wulf wasn’t looking at the final contestants. He was looking at me.

Me.

Oh. My. God.

Had I gotten in front of the camera? Had I distracted Wulf at a time like this? Oh shit, I was going to be fired. I took a small step back, but Mary stopped me.

Genevieve turned to look my way. Willow narrowed her eyes in my direction as if trying to peer into the shadows. Chet even broke his perfect facade to glance past the cameras.

At me. Although I wasn’t sure if they could actually see me, or if they were trying to determine what held Wulf’s attention.

A rumbling came from the stage. Chet, Genevieve and Willow whipped their gazes back toward Wulf. Then came a growl that practically made the floor shake. I felt it deep inside me and I gasped.

Wulf’s eyes were still on me, and I couldn’t look away. Not when he was growing. Actually growing. The audience gasped, murmured. Backstage whispering kicked in. Chet stepped back. Genevieve took hold of Willow’s hand, and their eyes widened.

The tuxedo jacket ripped at the seams on Wulf’s body. He wasn’t seven feet of alien any longer. He had to be eight feet and all beast. Angled features, ragged breathing, taut muscles. A gaze laser-sharp. Intense, as if he was ready to pounce.

“Mine.” The one word was low and deep, and it silenced the entire set.

GHOST

A Paranormal Romance
Ghost has been living the life of a nomad. A Lone Wolf. Riding his Harley, picking up odd jobs, and stopping only long enough to lay his head somewhere for the night. But life on the road is no longer as appealing as it used to be and he’s ready to settle down, find a mate, and begin the next chapter of his life.

Dark Moon Falls seems like a great place to do just that. Mackenzie was born and raised in Dark Moon Falls, but ever since her ex-husband landed in jail based off of her testimony, she’s become a pariah to the shifters in town. Which is fine with Mac, because after being left to raise her son alone, she doesn’t have much faith in them either. Ghost and Mac are two lonely souls, until fate finally intervenes and puts them in each other’s paths... But will they accept the gift of each other, or are they both two stubborn to see what’s right in front of them?
