Book Review: Dust Born: A Small Town Shifter Romance (Cambio Springs Book 4) by Elizabeth Hunter

Dust Born: (Cambio Springs Book 4)
By: Elizabeth Hunter
Pages: 296
Genre: paranormal romance, shifter, werewolf, small town
Sean Quinn returned to Cambio Springs to help his family find their way out of trouble—not uncommon in this desert town of shapeshifters—but before he can hit the road again, a new threat emerges on the border of his family home, a threat that could leave Sean stuck in the Springs just when he’s most desperate to leave.

And one unsuspecting human might be stuck right there with him.

Ever since Juniper Hawkins came to Cambio Springs to visit her big brother, strange things keep happening, not the least was running into the man who’d almost made her change her wandering ways. Juni wasn’t the kind of woman who settled down, even when the object of her affection was a tall, dark, and handsome photographer who kissed her senseless then abandoned her in Southeast Asia.

Not that she was still irritated about that.

DUST BORN is a brand new novel in the Cambio Springs Mysteries, a paranormal romance series by ten time USA Today Bestselling author, Elizabeth Hunter.

Amazon

Dust Born is book 4 in the Cambio Springs series by Elizabeth Hunter. The series hadn’t seen a new book in quite some time & it was refreshing to read this new one. I’ve been a long-time fan of her books and true to her nature, this book was interesting, fun, and a great read.

Sean Quinn is a snake shifter and a travel photographer. Normally, he’s on the road working but when a threat comes to Cambio Springs, he must hang up his camera to protect his family and get to the bottom of the threat. Juniper Hawkins works with Sean but also has family in Cambio Springs and has been in love with Sean for a long time, not that he can commit to anything. With this mysterious threat on the horizon, each of the shifter clans are patrolling and protecting the occupants of Cambio Springs, even the humans. Many secrets plague this town but some will finally come to light at last.

Book Review: The Thirteenth Month: (Seba Segal Series - Book 1) by Elizabeth Hunter

The Thirteenth Month: (Seba Segal Series - Book 1)
by Elizabeth Hunter

Pages: 435
"Time is the most fluid medium in the universe; humans are its most replaceable element."

There are rules for traveling:

A mage must never go forward.

Keep the secrets of the order in all times.

And never, ever travel during the thirteenth month.

Born into a powerful mage family, Narine Anahid Khoren is a time traveler whose life is constantly in flux. Since committing to the order of the Seba Segal at fourteen, she’s spent her life traveling through history, trying to make a difference and sacrificing her life in the present for one jumping through the past.

But while the world in 2071 has moved forward, the ancient order of the Seba Segel have become ever more archaic. The secret sect founded by astronomer priests has passed its magic to thousands of generations, perfecting the secrets of divination and time travel, while also amassing power, influence, and riches.

Change is on the horizon, and some in the order would do anything to stop it from coming. When one of the highest laws of mage travel is broken in the thirteenth month, Narine, her friends, and one unsuspecting professor will have to scour history to set the timeline right.

The Thirteenth Month is the first book in the Seba Segel series, an all-new time travel fantasy series by ten-time USA Today bestseller, Elizabeth Hunter, author of the Elemental Mysteries and the Irin Chronicles.

I’m not going to lie, I struggled with this book, but only the first quarter or so and then it was worth sticking with it. The book takes place in Ethiopia and there were many terms, names, etc., that I was unfamiliar with which is why I struggled. I’m one that likes to pronounce things correctly, , and know what things are used for but all in all, I was able to figure a lot of it out or I could look it up.
,
This story has some great elements. There’s time travel, which I absolutely love, intertwined with romance and history, which makes for an interesting read. Hunter always goes above and beyond in researching her stories to make them factual where needed and to weave a truly good story.

It was a friendly visit until a priceless artifact was stolen. Now Ben and Tenzin are up to their necks in secrets that can kill.

It’s not just any holiday season in the immortal world. Elder Zhang’s oldest servant is reaching the century mark and Ben and Tenzin are ready to celebrate, but no sooner do they land on Penglai Island than a mystery falls in their path. A valuable seal has gone missing, and the artifact was a gift from an ancient vampire who just happens to be heading to Penglai for a long-overdue formal visit.

The Elders of Penglai may have asked Ben and Tenzin’s assistance to find the lost treasure, but that doesn’t mean that eight ancient vampires, their immortal children, and all the humans who serve them will suddenly become open books. Penglai Island is secret for a reason, and the heart of that reason may just reveal the motive behind the theft.

PEARL SKY is a brand new Elemental Legacy story by Elizabeth Hunter, ten-time USA Today bestselling author of the Elemental Mysteries, the Irin Chronicles, and other works of fiction.

What was supposed to be a short, friendly visit to Penglai becomes more when an irreplaceable artifact is stolen. The Elders of Penglai have tasked Ben and Tenzin to find the artifact before very important visitors arrive to celebrate the birthday of Elder Zhang’s oldest servant. According to the Elders and the human they have spoken to, the island is paradise and everyone has their needs met.

As Ben and Tenzin start asking questions in search of the seal, many interesting facts come to light causing them both to feel like the theft was an inside job. Because Ben is a newer vampire than most on the island, he has a unique perspective that will break the case wide open but maybe it will also open the Elders' eyes to changes that are long overdue.

Book Review: Trouble Play: (Vista De Lirio Mysteries Book 3) by Elizabeth Hunter

Trouble Play: (Vista De Lirio Mysteries Book 3)

Paranormal women's fiction for lovers of sassy women, psychic shenanigans, and lifelong friends.

This desert oasis has gone to the dogs, and things are about to get bloody! (Not the dogs though. The dogs are fine.)

Comedian Evy Lane thought she’d done it all, but taking on the role of mistress of ceremonies for the Desert Fancy Dog Show may be her most challenging gig yet. The locals are a menagerie of high-strung prima donnas, nervous Nelsons, and she’s not talking about the dogs!

When high-stakes competition leads to gruesome murder, she will need every telepathic power at her disposal—and every psychic friend she knows—to make this show go on. Pesky police detectives, dangerously attractive investigators, and a menagerie of our favorite Vista de Lirio characters make this mystery the most twisted yet!

TROUBLE PLAY is the third book in the Vista de Lirio series, a new paranormal mystery series by Elizabeth Hunter, bestselling author of the Elemental Mysteries, the Glimmer Lake series, and The Irin Chronicles.

Palm Springs is already full of rich and sometimes snobby people, but when the Desert Fancy dog show comes to town, the town has more than enough suspects when people start dying. Evy has been hired to be the mistress of ceremonies, and she’s not sure she’s up for the challenge but is determined to give it her best.

John Marcos, the chief of police in Palm Springs, wants Evy to use her telepathy to help him find the killer. Still, Evy is determined to keep taking her anti-anxiety meds that keep all the inner monologues in the brains of the people thinking of them but when does Evy ever get what she wants?, Rafe, a new character in the series brings some mystery, sexiness, and possibilities to town for Evy, but she’s one for fun, not necessarily something more than that.

One thing I like about this series that Hunter has been doing is that she focuses on a specific character and goes more in-depth, but the characters from the previous books are still there, making me smile every time.

Book Review: Paladin’s Kiss: (Elemental Covenant Book 3) by Elizabeth Hunter

Paladin’s Kiss: (Elemental Covenant Book 3)
by Elizabeth Hunter
August 23, 2022
Pages: 328
It’s the vampire wedding of the century… and maybe the end of an empire.

Invited to the marriage ceremony of two old friends, Carwyn ap Bryn and Brigid Connor venture south, ready to relax in the company of Marie-Hélène Charmont, the vampire queen of the Delta, and four hundred of her esteemed immortal guests.

The upper echelons of vampire society have gathered in New Orleans, curious to witness the joining of Gavin Wallace, the immortal business mogul, to the human woman who captured his heart.

But when Gavin asks Brigid and Carwyn to look into a mysterious man stalking his human employees, they’re unprepared for the tangled web of deception they uncover. Tug on the wrong string and centuries-old alliances might fall apart.

In a tenuously balanced society full of apex predators; even one slip can prove disastrous.

Paladin’s Kiss is a supernatural mystery in the Elemental Covenant series by Elizabeth Hunter, nine-time USA Today bestselling author of A Hidden Fire, the Irin Chronicles, and over forty other works of fantasy fiction.

What’s more exciting than a wedding? A vampire wedding where the ceremony itself seems to be the least important detail of the wedding. It’s the social event of the year, hosted by Marie-Hélène Charmont, the vampire queen of New Orleans and includes 3 weeks of gatherings to announce all the important vampires attending the affair. When you add in the additional security teams the count is way over 400 and for some like Brigid, it is way too many vampires in one place for her.

When Gavin and Chloe invited Carwyn and Brigid to attend their wedding they did not imagine they would also need them to investigate a mystery man stalking Gavin’s human employees. As Brigid and Carwyn investigate the stalking’s, they are surprised to find the web of deception is deeper than originally thought and trying not to anger any particular vampire while getting to the heart of the matter may be more than any of them can handle.

Carwyn ap Bryn and Brigid Connor are two elemental vampires finding the lost, righting wrongs, and searching for meaning in the endless stretch of immortality they’ve been granted.

And trying not to blow things up, but that might be more aspirational.

Everyone said that Lupe Martínez was a good kid. She listened to her mom, she helped at the homeless shelter, she got good grades, and she had a bright future ahead of her.

Until she disappeared.

Now no one knows what to think. The police are sure she ran away; her mother is sure she didn’t. Days have passed and no one knows what to do until her family priest suggests they call in an old friend.

A very old friend.

Saint’s Passage is the first book in the paranormal mystery series Elemental Covenant by Elizabeth Hunter, USA Today best-selling author of the Elemental Legacy series, the Glimmer Lake Series, and the Irin Chronicles.

Carwyn, an earth vampire, and Brigid, a fire vampire, are a mated couple who work at righting wrongs amongst other things in their life of immortality. Carwyn is a huge loveable guy who was a priest in a former life, and Brigid is a temperamental woman who can stand on her own two feet and accomplish whatever she sets her mind to.

When Lupe goes missing, Carwyn and Brigid are hired to locate her. Everyone they talk to says that Lupe is a good kid with a heart of gold who wouldn’t run away, but each time they find a lead on her whereabouts, it seems they just missed her. Hoping that she didn’t meet with a terrible fate, the couple continues to exhaust every lead, including hunting down the man she supposedly disappeared with.

Hunter’s books are so easy to read, with good storylines, romance, and the supernatural to keep you returning time and time again. If you are looking for another series to read of hers, this is the one.

Is this desert oasis a shelter or a trap?

Dr. Vivian Wei is juggling multiple life changing events when her aging mother witnesses a violent death on the thirteenth tee. The only problem? There doesn't seem to be a crime to go along with the witness.

As an empath, Vivian knows her mother is telling the truth, but feelings don't prove a murder. Can Vivian and her friends prove a murderer is stalking the country club before he claims another victim?

MIRROR OBSCURE is the second book in the Vista de Lirio series, a new paranormal mystery series by Elizabeth Hunter, bestselling author of the Elemental Mysteries, the Glimmer Lake series, and The Irin Chronicles.

Vivian is an empath which has been a learning experience, not to mention that her parents are here to help her with changes in her life. Her mother who has seemed a little off lately witnesses a violent death on the golf course behind Vivian’s house but no one believes her since no evidence of a crime can be found.

The trio of women who make up this series along with their partners and family makes this series funny, lovable, and easy to read. Vivian is a dentist and by nature is rather reserved, yet Julia and Evy found ways to coax her from her shell. Richard is a man who is extremely wealthy but doesn’t come across as a jerk or above others which I found refreshing.

The Bone Scroll: (Elemental Legacy Book 5)
by Elizabeth Hunter

Finding it could cost them everything. Wielding it could mean their end.

It’s a secret lost in time, a myth among immortals, a relic of such power that vampires around the world have quietly harbored the hope that it doesn’t really exist.

It’s a mystery that Tenzin and Ben cannot resist.

But to obtain the Bone Scroll, they’ll need leverage over the most powerful and mercurial vampire in the known world. Saba, oldest of immortals and mother of the vampire race, has returned to her homeland in the highlands of Ethiopia, searching for the scroll with a cadre of elders. In order to outsmart them, Ben and Tenzin will need to walk a literal and figurative edge through a maze of vampire loyalties, shadowy motivations, and ancient secrets.

If Saba wanted them gone, she could command the earth to swallow them whole. But the mother of vampires is playing her own game, and both Ben and Tenzin are no more than pawns.

Can they outsmart and outmaneuver the most primeval beings in their race to find the Bone Scroll before it lands in the possession of those who care only for their own selfish gain?

The Bone Scroll is the next supernatural mystery in the Elemental Legacy series by Elizabeth Hunter, USA Today bestselling author of the Elemental Mysteries, the Irin Chronicles, and the Glimmer Lake series.

Ben and Tenzin enjoy a good treasure hunt, and the bone scroll may be the ultimate treasure hunt. Some immortals believe it is a myth, while others who hunger for power are in a race with them to find the bone scroll and the ability to control all four elements.

Tenzin is an old and ancient vampire who can play politics if she chooses, so they decide they need to collect leverage to trade when the time comes. Saba, the oldest immortal and the mother of the vampire race, appears to be playing her own game, one that Ben and Tenzin need to figure out in order to outsmart those searching for the bone scroll.

Hunter has a fantastic imagination that has kept her series and spin-off series fresh and a delight to read. The writing flows easily, making the read quick and interesting.

Book Review: Dawn Caravan (Elemental Legacy Book 4) by Elizabeth Hunter

Dawn Caravan: (Elemental Legacy Book 4)
by Elizabeth Hunter
Pages: 388
Pulse-driving paranormal mystery from USA Today Bestseller, Elizabeth Hunter. After this night, dawn can’t come fast enough.

For Ben Vecchio, everything has changed. His eyes. His diet. His new aversion to sunlight. But after a long sojourn in China, Ben realizes that the world he left behind hasn’t changed as much as he feared. He wants to leave his old life in the past, there’s one job remaining that just won’t leave him alone.

Radu’s mystery is too interesting—and too profitable—to ignore. The problem? Taking on this commission puts Ben in the path of his old partner, the one woman he’s spent years avoiding.

Tenzin has been following Ben at a distance, hoping his ire might wane, but when he heads to Romania, her patience runs out. Ben is a new power in their world, and more than one vampire will be eager to test him.

Ben and Tenzin need to work together if they want to find the truth behind Radu, his mysterious clan, and the treasure at the heart of the Dawn Caravan. One last job, then it’s finished between them.

Right?

Dawn Caravan is the fourth book in the Elemental Legacy, a paranormal mystery series by USA Today bestselling author, Elizabeth Hunter.

Ben is still so angry that Tenzin turned even though she knew it was against his wishes and now she is following him. Ben thinks that if he ends his business partnership with Tenzin than ties will be cut between them, and he will never look back. One last job with her and then he was done so Ben agrees to meet with Radu because he is definitely a mystery that Ben would like to understand.

The tension between Ben and Tenzin is so thick you can feel it jumping off the pages as you read. These two have always been favorites of mine and I am so happy to be able to read stories that are dedicated to them. Hunter has many different series and this one is a fan favorite! Her writing paints such a clear picture of the story she is telling, and her characters have a depth that I find refreshing. She builds on them in each story instead of just keeping them the same which keeps me coming back for more.

Book Reviews: Psychic Dreams: (Glimmer Lake Book 3) by Elizabeth Hunter

Psychic Dreams: (Glimmer Lake Book 3)
by Elizabeth Hunter
August 18, 2020
Pages: 298
Paranormal Women's Fiction with a bit of class, and a lot of sass, for anyone who feels like age is just a number!

She’s feeling the heat. Or it might be a hot flash. Sometimes it’s really hard to tell.

It’s been four years since Monica lost the love of her life to a sudden and devastating heart attack. She’s held her family together and picked herself up with the love and help of her two best friends. Now Monica has a new business, a new wardrobe, and a new vision for the future.

As in actual psychic visions. Dreams that manifest in reality? Monica’s still not sure why or how it happened, but she’s been seeing everything from unexpected visitors to visions of fire and destruction.

Separating premonitions from morbid imagination is proving harder than Monica expected, and no one can tell her if these new, violent visions will become a reality.

Added to that, there’s a new fire investigator in town, and he’s more than a little suspicious about the anonymous and frighteningly accurate tips someone is calling in. Monica is feeling the heat… or is that a hot flash?

Is their town about to feel the burn of a serial arsonist, or can Monica, Robin, and Val figure out the dangerous secret smoldering at the heart of Glimmer Lake?

Psychic Dreams is a standalone paranormal women’s fiction novel in the Glimmer Lake series by USA Today best seller Elizabeth Hunter, author of the Elemental Mysteries and the Irin Chronicles.

Monica and her two best friends were in a car accident a few years ago and ever since the accident they each developed a psychic power. Monica’s psychic power is visions. Lately, she has been having visions of a terrible fire and she isn’t sure if there’s a way to stop it from becoming a reality. On top of that, there’s a new sexy fire investigator in town who is very suspicious about the anonymous tips that Sully has been receiving.

Even though this book is focused on Monica and her powers, both Robin and Val are very much a part of the story that ties the three books together nicely. Robin continues to use her ability to communicate with ghosts and Val will read an object if needed which helps Monica as she tries to determine what is an actual vision and what is just a dream. This series focuses on women over 40 which is a refreshing change and the book is still relatable for a reader of any age.

Book Review: Semi-Psychic Life: (Glimmer Lake Book 2) by Elizabeth Hunter

Semi-Psychic Life: (Glimmer Lake Book 2)
by Elizabeth Hunter
April 21, 2020
290 pages
A Paranormal Women's Fiction with a bit of class, and a lot of sass, for anyone who feels like age is just a number!

Who says you can’t live the rock and roll life after forty?
You just need a lot more vitamins and a bigger bottle of aspirin.

Valerie Costa was pretty sure she was rocking her forties. She had an amazing coffee shop, two cool teenagers, and a new superpower that gave her insight into any random object she touched.

Okay, she wasn’t thrilled about that last one.

Ever since Val and her two best friends had driven their car off the edge and into Glimmer Lake the year before, Val has struggled with her new abilities. She’s not exactly sure she wants to be psychic, she could live without her newfound glove addiction, and honestly no one wants to know that much about their teenage sons.

But when Val’s ex-husband goes missing, and police show up at her door with questions she can’t answer, Val, Robin, and Monica are going to have to use their sudden psychic abilities to solve a mystery none of them saw coming.

Semi-Psychic Life is a standalone paranormal women’s fiction novel in the Glimmer Lake series by USA Today bestseller, Elizabeth Hunter, author of the Elemental Mysteries and the Irin Chronicles.

Three friends involved in the same critical accident. Each emerged with different Physic abilities. Val is not really pleased that each time she touches something or someone she gets visions of what has occurred in their life. So...gloves are a staple to her wardrobe. She is a divorced middle-aged mother of 3 boys (four if you count her irresponsible ex-husband) and has no time for drama, romance, and “psychic visions.”

But when her ex-husband goes missing, she feels obligated to solve the mystery and get to the bottom of a crime she is sure he didn’t commit.

This story has all the framework as Hunter”s other works. Good main, solid storyline, romance, friendship, and reliability. I didn’t find this as enticing as her other works but never thought about not finishing the story. The characters grew on me so maybe it was just a dour period in my reading marathon or just call me “crazy.” I will pick up the next installment because even if not a 5 star for me, I would like to see where she goes with the other characters.
