Crossing Quinn (Coletti Warlords Book 8) by Gail Koger + Giveaway

Crossing Quinn (Coletti Warlords Book 8)
by Gail Koger
May 21, 2018
Genre: SciFi Romantic Comedy Adventure
Quinn Jones is a formidable Coletti warlord. His mission is to capture Xenia and bring her back to Tanith to be mated with a warrior the Overlord has chosen. Problem is, Quinn finds himself falling for the beautiful Farin. Her unusual “psychic powers, combat training and berserker abilities” make her the perfect mate for him. How does he convince Xenia and the Overlord that she’s meant to be his?

Xenia and her parents are relic hunters who just discovered the fabled home world of the Nabateans. She isn’t about to leave the greatest find of the century to hook up with some Coletti. Not happening. Ever. No matter how many threats the Overlord makes or that he’s sending his best hunter to apprehend her. Okay, she’ll admit she’s drawn to the handsome warlord and she loves the way Quinn’s heavily muscled body fills out his black battle suit, but the egotistical jerk is about to get his ass handed to him.

When the galaxy is threatened with annihilation, Xenia and Quinn join forces to stop the murderous Tai-Kok. Fate has brought them together and nothing will stand in the way of their victory or their love.

CeeCee Tsosie is a Navajo Nation police officer and shaman with the ability to control the weather. She’ll admit arresting Jake Jones, a Coletti Warlord, for speeding was not one of her better decisions. But hey, the law was the law and the drop-dead gorgeous warlord pushed every one of her buttons. She might have been a tad overzealous with her rainstorm and stun gun, but the Jackass had it coming.

An alien serial killer is stalking the Navajo Nation. The Coletti Empire is hunting a galactic fugitive. Turns out they need each other’s help to stop the shapeshifting predator. Can she work with the Jackass? Can Jake convince CeeCee she’s the one? Only time, and the spirits will tell.

Book Review: Pearl Sky (Elemental Legacy Book 8) by Elizabeth Hunter

Pearl Sky (Elemental Legacy Book 8)
by Elizabeth Hunter
December 6, 2022
Pages: 236
It was a friendly visit until a priceless artifact was stolen. Now Ben and Tenzin are up to their necks in secrets that can kill.

It’s not just any holiday season in the immortal world. Elder Zhang’s oldest servant is reaching the century mark and Ben and Tenzin are ready to celebrate, but no sooner do they land on Penglai Island than a mystery falls in their path. A valuable seal has gone missing, and the artifact was a gift from an ancient vampire who just happens to be heading to Penglai for a long-overdue formal visit.

The Elders of Penglai may have asked Ben and Tenzin’s assistance to find the lost treasure, but that doesn’t mean that eight ancient vampires, their immortal children, and all the humans who serve them will suddenly become open books. Penglai Island is secret for a reason, and the heart of that reason may just reveal the motive behind the theft.

PEARL SKY is a brand new Elemental Legacy story by Elizabeth Hunter, ten-time USA Today bestselling author of the Elemental Mysteries, the Irin Chronicles, and other works of fiction.

What was supposed to be a short, friendly visit to Penglai becomes more when an irreplaceable artifact is stolen. The Elders of Penglai have tasked Ben and Tenzin to find the artifact before very important visitors arrive to celebrate the birthday of Elder Zhang’s oldest servant. According to the Elders and the human they have spoken to, the island is paradise and everyone has their needs met.

As Ben and Tenzin start asking questions in search of the seal, many interesting facts come to light causing them both to feel like the theft was an inside job. Because Ben is a newer vampire than most on the island, he has a unique perspective that will break the case wide open but maybe it will also open the Elders' eyes to changes that are long overdue.

Urban Fantasy Author Gail Z. Martin talks Vampires, Werewolves, and Casinos

Vampires, Werewolves, and Casinos
By Gail Z. Martin

Our newest Spells, Salt and Steel book House of Cards takes mechanic/monster hunter Mark Wojcik into new territory, busting an illicit casino and cryptid fight club run by supernatural bosses. Of course there’s more to the problem than underground betting, and that puts Mark and his friends up to their asses in alligators as they sort out the web of dangerous dealings.

This is the eighth Mark Wojcik book (co-written with Larry N. Martin), and along the way we’ve gotten to see Mark and his companions grow and change as individuals even as they also gain new fighting skills, paranormal abilities, and supernatural allies. We’ve also explored plenty of Pennsylvania urban legends, ghost stories and lore from the part of the state where Larry and I grew up. We never run out of weird, spooky stuff to stoke the next story!

We’ve signed a contract with Falstaff Books for Season 3–four more novellas of action-packed paranormal adventure with plenty of snarky humor, so stay tuned!

Genre: paranormal, urban fantasy, comedy/horror
Gotta know when to fake ‘em, know when to stake them, know when to burn it down—and know when to let all hell break loose.

Some days, mechanic and monster hunter Mark Wojcik thinks that if it weren’t for bad luck, he’d have no luck at all.

His corner of rural Pennsylvania used to be relatively quiet—except for the ghosts, trolls, gnomes, and snallygasters. But when people start disappearing and bodies pile up, Mark and his friends realize that big city problems have come to town, with deadly consequences.

Necromancer narcos, a monster trafficking ring, and mafia witches would give anyone heartburn. It’s just Mark’s luck they all converge in his territory, along with an underground cryptid fight club and a secret casino catering to witches, werewolves, and the unwary.

The fight gets personal when Mark’s friends go missing, and all bets are off when he and Father Leo bring in a ringer to even the odds.

They say the house always wins. Mark’s betting the farm that he and his friends can save the day. He’s got a couple of cards up his sleeve—but unless luck and magic go his way, they might turn out to be aces and eights.

The eighth book in the Spells, Salt, & Steel series brings Season Two to a close in explosive fashion!

🎉Surprise party Flash Fiction🎉 with fantasy romance author Lorelei Johnson's characters + giveaway

🎉Surprise party Flash Fiction🎉
with Lorelei Johnson's characters

‘Surprise!’ the room shouts as Jafar entered the throne room, making him cringe. His first response was to reach for his sceptre but Jasmine had made him leave it tucked away, spouting something about having had enough magic for a while. Spoken like a true royal. Although, he supposed he was also a royal now, and no one was about to take his position. Still, he felt naked without it.

He looked around at the happy faces and the ridiculous extravagance of it all; the decorations, the ridiculous amount of food, the dancers keeping the old men far too readily entertained. His eyes finally settle on his wife standing across the room, her eyes holding his, a smug look on her face. Oh, she was going to pay for this later.

‘I thought we agreed no celebrations?’ he said flatly as he reached her side.

‘Come now, darling. I never agreed to any such thing.’

His mind wandered back to the conversation they’d had, where he’d told her absolutely not, leaving no room for argument, and what had she done in response? She’d distracted him with that tongue of hers.

‘You’re a witch,’ he grumbled.

She beamed at up with a breathtaking smile, victory shining in her eyes. Oh yes, she was definitely going to pay for this later. ‘Don’t be so bitter,’ she said, a scolding tone to her voice. ‘Our people are happier than they have ever been and they wanted to celebrate.’

‘But it’s my birthday, shouldn’t I get a say in what I want?’ he asked, leaning in close. He pressed his lips to her neck, sending a shiver through her that made him lick his lips.

As if remembering herself, she swatted him away. ‘Stop it! You can’t do that here,’ she hissed under her breath, her eyes darting around to see if anyone had noticed. They probably had but no one was letting on. Of course they wouldn’t, it would be perfect fodder for gossip later.

‘If it weren’t improper for our Sultan, I’d throw you over my shoulder and take you from here.’

‘Don’t. I know where this is going and we are going to celebrate your birthday if it kills you,’ Jasmine said, glowering at him.

He let out a sigh. ‘Very well, wife, if that is what you wish.’

He would let her have her fun for now but this was far from over.

Book Review: Crowbones (The World of Others #3, The Others #8) by Anne Bishop

Crowbones (The World of Others #3, The Others #8)
by Anne Bishop
March 8, 2022
Publisher: Ace
In this engrossing and gripping fantasy set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Others series, an inn owner and her friends must find a killer—before it’s too late.…

Crowbones will gitcha if you don’t watch out!

Deep in the territory controlled by the Others—shape-shifters, vampires, and even deadlier paranormal beings—Vicki DeVine has made a new life for herself running The Jumble, a rustic resort. When she decides to host a gathering of friends and guests for Trickster Night, at first everything is going well between the humans and the Others.

But then someone arrives dressed as Crowbones, the Crowgard bogeyman. When the impostor is killed along with a shape-shifting Crow, and the deaths are clearly connected, everyone fears that the real Crowbones may have come to The Jumble—and that could mean serious trouble.

To “encourage” humans to help them find some answers, the Elders and Elementals close all the roads, locking in suspects and victims alike. Now Vicki, human police chief Grimshaw, vampire lawyer Ilya Sanguinati, and the rest of their friends have to figure out who is manipulating events designed to pit humans against Others—and who may have put Vicki DeVine in the crosshairs of a powerful hunter.

Crowbones is the third installment in The World of Others spin-off series. It tells a tale spanning only days wherein a small settlement is seemingly terrorized by a boogey-man-like elder being named Crowbones. Crowbones’ arrival coincides with a Halloween-like event, contributing an additional layer to the spooky, somewhat post-apocalyptic setting. Humans and shifters alike frantically try to unwind the purpose of Crowbones’ arrival as the body count rises.

Much of the action in Crowbones takes place at The Jumble, a rustic resort owned by Victoria “Vicki” DeVine. Vicki has a close communion with The Others, including animal shifters, vampires, elementals, and elders. There is a vested interest, it seems, on behalf of The Others to ensure Vicki’s safety. Vicki is a relatable character. She struggles with anxiety due to past trauma. Vicki is also seemingly ordinary in appearance, a rarity among female main characters in fantasy series. Many readers will connect with Vicki’s humility and humanity.

The plot unfolds as a whodunit. When bodies start piling up, there is a vast cast of characters and suspects. The deaths are brutal and violent, shaking The Jumbles staff and visitors to the core. An eclectic group of characters working collectively to uncover the threat to The Jumble and the village of Sproing. I found the thriller elements of the story entertaining. The vast cast of characters lends interest and variety to the story.

In the interest of full disclosure, I entered this universe with Crowbones. I had heard of The Others series but have not read any other installments set in this world. That being said, it took me a while to understand what was going on. Bishop’s world is highly imaginative with an incredible amount of world-building, including unique months/days of the week. Bishop provides a map (of a neighbouring town?) and a list of characters grouped by type. I was constantly referring to this list to parse out alignment and connection. This made the reading experience disjointed and slow. It’s likely advisable to start at the beginning, if not of The Others series, but at least with The World of Others.

The Epilogues: Part II

Nothing says romance like spending a long weekend at a haunted inn famed for sending its guests to the ER with scratches, bites, and fractures. Or so Linus thinks when he books a trip for Grier and himself to Oliphant House. As far as honeymoons go, the choice is nontraditional, but then, so is his bride.

Haunted history is one of Grier’s great loves, and she’s thrilled to discover Linus has given her a mystery to solve. Forget walks on moonlit beaches and sipping fruity drinks, Grier would much rather unravel the curse that’s plagued the Oliphant family for generations than pick sand from between her toes.

The resident spooks, however, aren’t happy with the newlyweds sticking their noses where they don’t belong. Between the missing persons, the dead bodies, and the secrets lurking in the basement, Linus and Grier start to wonder if they’ll survive their honeymoon.

Grier is no ordinary woman and Linus her new husband wants to pick the perfect place for their honeymoon even if it is somewhat unconventional to most people. What says I love you forever more than a haunted inn where the hauntings only happen once every 30 years? Grier is ecstatic when she finds out their destination is a mystery she hopes to solve.

Grier and Linus’s relationship has been one for the history book’s and the way Edwards has written this series is outstanding. Her books are easy to read, filled with characters you love and a few you hate but one thing that stands out is that even though there’s magic the characters are relatable which makes it a series you don’t want to miss.

Now she must navigate her mortal goals with her divine life, beginning with substantiating into an avatar to have James Faulkner's baby, and ending with vengeance. Book 8 of the Ascension Series.

James has asked Elise repeatedly to have a baby and expand their family and she finally gave in which lead them both to avatars to accomplish this goal. Even though they planned the aspects of their avatars, things never seem to go as planned.

Elise and James have led many different complications throughout Reine’s different series, either by being the lead characters or by quietly existing in the backgrounds of her stories. Each time they appear their characters take on more depth that really shows the imagination of the author. This book has opened up infinite possibilities for the Ascension series itself as well as many spin-off possibilities. It was one of the best-written works Reine has had to date.

Excerpt:
A light rap against the door signaled Amara's arrival.

I leaned against the bar, waiting as she disengaged the lock outside, feigning a bored expression as the entryway slid open to reveal the scantily clad female beyond.

That teddy looked even better close-up, the black silk an alluring contrast against her pale skin and the tattoos decorating her left arm.

She stepped inside, her stiletto heels clicking over the marble floor. And sealed her fate by allowing the door to close behind her.

I smiled. You’re mine now, princess.

Amara Rose was worth more alive than dead.

A gentleman would allow her to choose her fate.

But I wasn’t a gentleman. Just an assassin, hired to find a mark.

And I’d just acquired my target.

Book Review: That Ain’t Witchcraft (InCryptid Book 8) by Seanan McGuire

Crossroads, noun:

1. A place where two roads cross.
2. A place where bargains can be made.
3. See also “places to avoid.”

Antimony Price has never done well without a support system. As the youngest of her generation, she has always been able to depend on her parents, siblings, and cousins to help her out when she’s in a pinch—until now. After fleeing from the Covenant of St. George, she’s found herself in debt to the crossroads and running for her life. No family. No mice. No way out.

Lucky for her, she’s always been resourceful, and she’s been gathering allies as she travels: Sam, fÅ«ri trapeze artist turned boyfriend; Cylia, jink roller derby captain and designated driver; Fern, sylph friend, confidant, and maker of breakfasts; even Mary, ghost babysitter to the Price family. Annie’s actually starting to feel like they might be able to figure things out—which is probably why things start going wrong again.

New Gravesend, Maine is a nice place to raise a family…or make a binding contract with the crossroads. For James Smith, whose best friend disappeared when she tried to do precisely that, it’s also an excellent place to plot revenge. Now the crossroads want him dead and they want Annie to do the dirty deed. She owes them, after all.

And that’s before Leonard Cunningham, aka, “the next leader of the Covenant,” shows up…

It’s going to take everything Annie has and a little bit more to get out of this one. If she succeeds, she gets to go home. If she fails, she becomes one more cautionary tale about the dangers of bargaining with the crossroads.

But no pressure.

Antimony Price, along with her cryptid boyfriend, Sam, and cryptid friends Cylia and Fern, is on the run from the Covenant of St. George. She and her friends meet James, who happens to be a sorcerer looking to find a way to make the crossroads connected to the town, give him back his friend who bargained with it to give him the freedom to leave the area. Worse, the crossroads are ready to claim the debt Annie incurred when they saved her and Sam.

This novel in the continuing in the series about the Price family kept me interested and invested in the characters. My only complaint is the character Sam. He seems too overly needy and jealous, but if that is the choice of Annie, well, will wait to see further adventures of hers and if they stay together. I can’t wait to see if Annie finally makes it home to her family’s compound.

If you enjoy reading urban legends and about cryptids, This snarky, fun-filled, sasquatch-thrilling novel is cyptidmatic!

I gave That Ain’t Witchcraft 4 1/2 sheep

Book Review: Wolf Rising (SWAT Book 8) by Paige Tyler

Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca
"Intense action, sizzling romance, and bold writing... Paige Tyler has a new fan in me!"―LARISSA IONE, New York Times Bestselling Author, for Wolf Hunger

Just when he's found The One...he might lose her.

SWAT Officer Jayden Brooks doesn't believe there's a soul mate out there for him―The One. But when he saves high school teacher Selena Rosa from a hostage situation, he knows he's in big trouble. Her scent is irresistible.

Selena finds the big cop irresistible, too. In fact, the buttoned-up teacher gets a little carried away―during a steamy make-out session, she bites him. Turns out, the traumatizing events at the school triggered her werewolf gene. Fangs and claws are appearing and her aggression is out of control. The change is happening, and Selena doesn't understand.

It's going to take everything Brooks has to pull her back from the edge...and ultimately win her heart.

SWAT Series:
Hungry Like the Wolf (Book 1)
Wolf Trouble (Book 2)
In the Company of Wolves (Book 3)
To Love a Wolf (Book 4)
Wolf Unleashed (Book 5)
Wolf Hunt (Book 6)
Wolf Hunger (Book 7)
Wolf Rising (Book 8)

Readers are hungry for Paige Tyler's SWAT series:
"I don't think I will ever get enough of Paige Tyler's Special Wolf Alpha Team."―Night Owl Reviews Top Pick, 5 Stars
"I love the SWAT series, I love Paige Tyler, and now multiply this tenfold!"―Fresh Fiction
"The chemistry is scorching hot."―RT Book Reviews

Most series would have lost my interest by now but not the SWAT series by Paige Tyler! She’s back with an all new book in the super hot, super intense series about a group of alpha werewolves working as a SWAT unit in Dallas. The series has expanded since the first book and now includes beta wolves, omega wolves, and more. I couldn’t be more thrilled with the direction this series is heading.

Taking the lead this time is werewolf Jayden Brooks, a character longtime fans (like me) are familiar with. He essentially rescues teacher Selena Rosa from a hostage situation involving one of her former students when he realizes she’s The One. Basically, it means she’s the one fated to be his lifetime love and partner. But of course, things get complicated real fast because that hostage situation just triggered Selena’s werewolf gene and she’s going through the change. Worse, she’s showing signs of becoming an omega wolf, the most out of control and violent breed Brooks has come across.

Wolf Rising takes on a more urgent tone than its predecessors because the werewolf hunters introduced a few books back are getting more and more aggressive in their quest to eradicate Brooks and his fellow wolves. There’s a lot of tension present throughout the whole story and the hunters serve as a conflict that is going to take not just all of the SWAT team, but all the allies they’ve managed to make along the way. It’s a two steps forward, three steps back kind of game that has me coming back to this series as eager as I was when I picked up the first book a few years ago.

As bad as the hunters are, they don’t take away the spotlight from Brooks and Selena. Their romance is complicated but it’s a solid one, and yes it is a case of near instantaneous love for them, but because Wolf Rising is a paranormal romantic suspense it works really well. Brooks is total boyfriend material and Selena is a tough as nails woman more than capable of learning to control her aggressive wolf side which was a conflict all its own. In this book, readers learn more about the omega wolves that up until now were thought to be irredeemable and dangerous. I really love how Tyler has managed to keep the series fresh by weaving more strands into a world she’s already established without overcomplicating things or confusing readers. She doesn’t overdo it when she’s rehashing previous events to catch new readers up, and she makes sure that longtime readers get fresh, new material.

One of the constant things I really enjoy about Wolf Rising and the books before it is the relationship and work dynamic between the SWAT team. They’re not a group of wolves following an alpha, they’re ALL alpha wolves. They just don’t have the controlling d-bag tendencies that seem to be popular in other sub-genres of romance. These wolves are big, bad, and dangerous but they also have the ability to crack readers up with their sometimes childish teasing of each other. Brooks gets teased by his fellow alphas but he knows that they are the ones he can count on to watch his back. After they’ve made fun of him of course. I love those guys. Every single one of them.

Overall, Wolf Rising is a stand out addition to the SWAT series with the edge-of-your-seat suspense, red-hot romance, and a cast of werewolves that you can’t help but fall in love with. I can’t wait for the next book.

Paige graduated from The University of West Florida with a degree in education in 2000, but decided to pursue a full-time career as a writer in 2004. Since then, she’s written over fifty books in several genres, including paranormal, contemporary, western, sci-fi and erotica. She loves writing about strong, sexy, alpha males and the feisty, independent women who fall for them. From verbal foreplay to sexual heat, her stories of romance, adventure, suspense, passion and true love will leave you breathlessly panting for more.

She and her very own military hero (also known as her husband) live on the beautiful Florida coast with their adorable fur baby (also known as their dog). Paige graduated with a degree in education, but decided to pursue her passion and write books about hunky alpha males and the kickbutt heroines who fall in love with them.

When not working on her latest book, Paige enjoys reading, jogging, P90X, Yoga, Pilates, going to the beach, watching NFL football, watching movies and hanging out with her husband (not necessarily in that order!)
