Bring on the cakes, balloons, cakes, gifts, cakes, and…well…cakes. It’s time for Grier’s baby shower!

Grier is ready to smile for the cameras, rip open the presents, and finally taste that lemon chiffon cake, but it’s just not meant to be. The Grande Dame is MIA, which turns the big event into an even bigger search party. And that delicious cake? It’s going right back in the fridge.

While Grier doesn’t have the best relationship with her mother-in-law, she’s determined her child will grow up with one living grandparent or else. Even if it means wiggling into maternity jeans, putting on actual shoes, and waddling over to Lawson Manor to investigate the potential kidnapping.

Just as the investigation turns a corner, Grier pays the price for her stress. The baby wants out ahead of schedule, and it has a unique way of making its desires known. Unique and terrifying. Now the race is on to find the Grande Dame before the baby makes his or her first appearance.

What do you get when you cross a goddess-touched necromancer with an Eidolon?

Linus and Grier are about to find out firsthand. Now they just have to survive parenthood.

Grier and Linus were shocked, to say the least when they found out they were expecting but now that time draws near for Grier to give birth she is over the hormones, not being able to see her feet and pregnancy in general, and is ready to welcome he or her into their family. Due to her demands of being the Grande Dame’s daughter-in-law, she has to have two baby showers; one for the Grande Dame and the Society and one for her actual friends, but when the Grande Dame is a no show for the shower Grier and Linus know something is seriously wrong.

With all the stress and investigating the Grande Dame’s kidnapping, the baby has decided to show the world its desire to be born in the most unique and possibly frightening way possible. Grier has created the best family for herself with Linus, Lethe, and the Pack and all those who surround her with love, we would all be so lucky to have the support that she does.

My biggest hope is that this isn’t actually the end of the story because there were questions left unanswered not to mention a series with how the baby develops would be awesome!

The Epilogues: Part II

Nothing says romance like spending a long weekend at a haunted inn famed for sending its guests to the ER with scratches, bites, and fractures. Or so Linus thinks when he books a trip for Grier and himself to Oliphant House. As far as honeymoons go, the choice is nontraditional, but then, so is his bride.

Haunted history is one of Grier’s great loves, and she’s thrilled to discover Linus has given her a mystery to solve. Forget walks on moonlit beaches and sipping fruity drinks, Grier would much rather unravel the curse that’s plagued the Oliphant family for generations than pick sand from between her toes.

The resident spooks, however, aren’t happy with the newlyweds sticking their noses where they don’t belong. Between the missing persons, the dead bodies, and the secrets lurking in the basement, Linus and Grier start to wonder if they’ll survive their honeymoon.

Grier is no ordinary woman and Linus her new husband wants to pick the perfect place for their honeymoon even if it is somewhat unconventional to most people. What says I love you forever more than a haunted inn where the hauntings only happen once every 30 years? Grier is ecstatic when she finds out their destination is a mystery she hopes to solve.

Grier and Linus’s relationship has been one for the history book’s and the way Edwards has written this series is outstanding. Her books are easy to read, filled with characters you love and a few you hate but one thing that stands out is that even though there’s magic the characters are relatable which makes it a series you don’t want to miss.

Groom? Check.
Dress? Check.
Cake? Check.
More cake? Double Check.
Even more cake? Triple check.
(Seriously, who left Lethe alone with Grier's credit card?)

Anything that can go wrong has,but all the deposits have been paid, and the menus are set. Mostly. There's always room for more cake, right? All that's left is for Grier and Linus to exchange vows and set off on their honeymoon. Their happily ever after awaits, so close they can taste it.

No.

Wait.

That's probably just more cake. Frosting gets everywhere.

Anyway, there's also murder, arson, and general mayhem. This is what happens when two potentates marry. Just cross your fingers they survive exchanging vows, and that the knot they tie doesn't turn into a noose.

The time has finally come for Grier and Linus to wed. If Lethe doesn’t spend all of Grier’s money on taste-testing food for the reception, it should be exceptional. It is no small thing when two potentates marry. Everyone is doing whatever is needed to make sure the event goes off without a hitch but when does that ever matter?

Grier is worried that someone will ruin her wedding to Linus and when things start going bad, she is bound and determined to protect those closest to her and get married. The magic between Grier and Linus is spectacular and I could almost see the fireworks when reading this book. Lethe and her daughter Eva are two that have melted hearts near and far even with the violence that follows them. This book has just about everything you could want; romance, fun, food and of course a little violence to round it all out.

Savannah has fallen to the vampires, and it’s up to Grier to take out their leader, Gaspard Lacroix, and restore peace. Lacroix might be more powerful and immune to her magic, but she’s got a plan. Too bad it’s got holes big enough for a new threat to waltz through while the city is on her knees.

Now Grier must risk her very soul if she hopes to slay her enemies and prevent her world from going up in flames. But salvation comes at a steep price, and she’s not the only one who will pay. The cost just might break her, and the man who owns her heart.

Savannah is at the mercy of Lacroix, an extremely powerful vampire and also her grandfather. Grier must find a way to defeat him and save her beloved city but to defeat him it may take more than she has to sacrifice.

This series is one of my absolute favorites of all time. I had a hard time reading this book because I knew it was the last one in the series. All the questions that need answering will finally come to light and there are more than a few surprises in that department. Edwards is a brilliant writer, who paints such a vivid image of her characters and stories that it’s hard to put down her books. The love and relationship that has developed between Grier and Linus is one to envy and her friendship with Lethe has a depth all its own.

When a fledgling vampire arrives at Woolworth House searching for his maker, Grier is forced to relive her time in Atramentous. Most of those years are as dark and empty in her memory as she was in her cell. She can't remember her progeny, or the night she resuscitated him, but she can protect him from the Society. As long as she's willing to barter with her grandfather to do it.

But Lacroix has plans of his own. He envisions the city--her city--under his rule, and Grier under his thumb. Now all he needs is the right leverage to force her cooperation, and he has just the person in mind. Grier is ready to trade her freedom until a grim truth is revealed that splits her heart in two. Yet another person she loves has betrayed her, and Grier is left agonizing over how much of their relationship is real and how much was a lie.

Grier is shocked and thrown back into horrible memories when her progeny shows up at Woolworth House needing asylum from the Society. She knows she can’t keep him hidden at Woolworth House but maybe her grandfather will strike a deal with her to protect him and teach him the ways of being a vampire.

Grier is faced with deceptions around every corner in the fifth book of The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy by Hailey Edwards. This series holds your attention on every page, in every book as you fall in love with these characters. Grier has had such a tough life and every time it seems she might catch a break something gets in her way. Linus has been in love with Grier for as long as he can remember but is having a hard time accepting that she might feel the same way for him. Wooly, the house is the best of all. Even though she is a house, she is alive, has emotions and is fiercely protective of Grier and those closest to her. If you haven’t delved into this imaginative series, now is the time to binge read!

Grier is nursing a broken heart after Boaz announced his engagement to another woman, but life goes on. Or it would if vampire assassins would stop taking pot shots at her every time she leaves Woolworth House. Seriously, who sends archers to deliver murdergrams these days?

To protect herself, Grier must pull out all the stops, even if it means revealing her darkest secret. All eyes are on her, and—for the first time—she begins to understand why Linus wears so many masks. But the target isn’t Grier, and when the archers single him out, it feels like one of their arrows might have struck what remains of her heart.

Grier is trying to get over Boaz after he announces his engagement to another woman and since vampire assassins are trying to kill her at every turn it makes it a little easier to forget about him. As she spends more time with Linus, she is finding that her heart has taken a liking to him she’s just not sure her brain has caught up yet.

I dare say this is the best book in the series to date. The surprises just keep coming and romance is in the air. Edwards style of writing is so easy to read that once you start this book you aren’t going to want to put it down, readers beware! Grier’s I am over it already attitude and Linus’s patience is just another aspect that will make you fall in love with these characters if you haven’t already.

Book Review: How to Break an Undead Heart (The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy Book 3) by Hailey Edwards

Grier finally has the one thing she's always wanted: Boaz Pritchard. Too bad her dream boyfriend is keeping her up nights, just not in a sweaty or fun way. Boaz has dialed down the Southern charm and stopped returning her calls. His job forces him to keep secrets, but his radio silence is cranking up her suspicions. He's a shameless flirt, but he's her shameless flirt...right?

Soon an attack on Woolworth House leaves her with bigger problems than he loves me, he loves me not. Vampires are on the prowl, and they aren't the only predators circling. A new threat has emerged, one with blood rights to Grier. With enemies closing in on all sides, she must choose her allies, and the decision could make or break her...and her heart.

Warning: This book contains a buttload of zombie parakeet poop. Like grab a poncho and thank me later. Watch out, y'all. It's about to hit the fan. Hearts will break, and heads will literally roll
.

Grier and Boaz are finally a thing, but Grier is doubting where she stands when Boaz has stopped calling her. She knows that his job forces him to keep secrets but since he can contact Amelie, Grier is wondering if she’s just another girl on his long list.

Woolworth house is attacked again and the vampires are still trying to capture her for their master. Wherever Grier turns there seems to be a new enemy lurking. She’s at the point that she isn’t sure there are any allies left

Grier is one of those characters that you can empathize with. She’s been cheated, lied, wrongfully accused and hurt more times than she can count, but is able to keep on going. She believes the best in everyone and tries to protect them. Relationships are complicated and more so when you are Goddess touched as Grier is. The spark between Linus and Grier is unmistakable but then there’s Boaz who she has loved since they were kids. It’s hard to decide who to root for in the third installment of The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy. I look forward to seeing where the next book will lead us.

The Beginner's Guide to Necromancy, Book 2

Life was simpler for Grier when she was flat broke and a social pariah. Now she's carrying the baggage that goes along with the title of Dame Woolworth, and shouldering that weight is giving her a serious crick in the neck. Her work as a Haint is the one thing that makes her feel normal, but even that's more paranormal than usual.

Spirits are vanishing from well-known hot spots on the ghost tour circuit, and vampires are turning up as shriveled husks. When Grier stumbles across the menace preying on Savannah's supernatural community, what she uncovers is bigger than a few flickering lampposts gone dark. It's a deadly threat unleashed by one of their own, and the cost of saving her city might be her life.

Now that Grier has been reinstated as the Woolworth heir and her money has been restored she is at a complete loss. She knew what her responsibilities were and how to behave when she was penniless, and on a budget, now she has no idea. To cope, she begs Cricket for her job back as a Haint. At least if she has some normalcy in her life, she may be able to deal with the rest of the changes. The most unusual thing is happening in Savannah, ghosts and spiritual energy are disappearing after years of hauntings and vampires are turning up dead. Grier is convinced she knows who is behind these killings but will the truth be worse than the fantasy?

Boaz and Grier heat up a little as they explore what could be between them. There are so many obstacles in their path that Grier is not sure it’s worth sacrificing their friendship for more. Grier seems to have an energy that is magnetic and causes zings no matter who she is with which makes her an endearing character not to mention rooting for the underdog is always fun. Though it’s hard to choose I think that this series of Edwards is probably my favorite.

Grier Woolworth spends her nights weaving spooky tales of lost souls and tragedies for tourists on the streets of downtown Savannah. Hoop skirt and parasol aside, it's not a bad gig. The pay is crap, but the tips keep the lights on in her personal haunted mansion and her pantry stocked with ramen.

Life is about as normal as it gets for an ex-necromancer hiding among humans. Until the society that excommunicated Grier offers her a second chance at being more than ordinary. Too bad no one warned her the trouble with being extraordinary is it can get you killed.

Warning: This book contains one ex-con heiress with a pet zombie parakeet who lives next door to her ex-army crush. Brace yourselves, we're talking more exes than a pirate treasure map here.

Grier Woolworth was a necromancer until she was excommunicated by the Society and thrown into a special kind of prison. After five years she is suddenly cleared and released to return what is left of her life. The Society took all of her inheritance and title so she is back to working as a tour guide on the streets of downtown Savannah. Grier wonders who she is going to owe for this new-found freedom and it doesn’t take long to find that everyone wants a piece of her whether she wants to give it or not.

Edwards has done a fabulous job of creating her next series. Different than her others but just as good if not better. I’m always a little apprehensive when I start a totally different series by one of my favorite authors. What if it isn’t as good as the others? What if I don’t like the storyline? You know how it goes, but she definitely did not disappoint. I look forward to Book 2, How to Claim an Undead Soul which she is hoping to release sometime in November or December.
