Character Guest Post: Layla's first feeding as a succubus (Mostly Innocent by J.M.Jinks)

Layla’s first “feeding” as a succubus

I didn’t know what happened. Didn’t know what I’d gotten myself into. Since my transformation, I’d locked myself in my manor and sent away all of our servants. Because when I saw people, saw men, I had these thoughts...disturbing thoughts. I’d gotten my revenge and now I had this creature in me, driving me, taking control of me. What am I? I felt different, yet the same.

Except I couldn’t ignore the burning. My throat scorched as if I swallowed flames whole. No matter what I drank, the feeling wouldn’t subside. This thing, this succubus inside of me, rattled all my senses. The more she pushed, the more horrible ideas popped in my head. They weren’t my thoughts, yet… somehow they were starting to become mine. The line between her and me blurred. She wanted control, and she nearly had it.

Feed. Mussst feed. She hissed the words in my head over and over again.

“I don’t know what you mean!” I shouted out loud to my empty kitchen. The pain in my throat doubled even as I drank my third glass of water in minutes.

Clink, clink, clink. I snapped my head in the direction of my back door, frozen in place. Someone was here. No.

Go. The monster in me urged. Feed. My body shook violently, fighting my inner succubus. My control close to snapping.

The clink of the door knocker sounded again. Unable to hold out any longer, she overpowered me. She—we—opened the door. Matteo. He helped tend the horses when my husband was out of town. I’d never gotten the chance to send him away.

“Good Afternoon, Mrs. Gallo.” He pushed a stray black strand of hair that escaped his low ponytail behind his ear. “I wanted to let you know I shoed all the horses, and Bella looks like she’ll be giving birth any day now so I was going to come back later and check—”

“Do you want to come in Matteo?” I interrupted. I licked my lips. My eyes devoured every bit of him. From his well-sculpted arms in his shift to his strong thighs. I could imagine the way his hands rough from hard work would feel as they brushed over my bare skin. Yessss, my succubus hissed, it’d feel so good.

“I don’t want to bother you, ma’am.” He replied with a sideways smile on his luscious lips.

Something poured out of me, a power, an essence, an aphrodisiac. The air between us smelled of orange blossoms in bloom. As it hit him, his nostrils flared. His eyes dilated as they raked over me. “On second thought, a glass of water would be nice.” He stepped inside, closing the door behind him.

I smiled at him, wanting him like I’ve never wanted any other man before. Unable to contain myself, I pushed him against the door and claimed his lips. He wrapped his arms around me. Yes. This is what the succubus wants.

He picked me up, my legs twined around his waist, as he carried me to the dining table. He trailed his lips down my throat before he laid me across the table. Pulling off his shift, his exposed muscles drove the need in me higher. I wanted him.

Lifting up my skirt, his calloused hands tickled my sensitive skin of my inner thighs. Need and desire unlike I’d ever experienced before coursed through me. As he peeled off his pants, his hardened length enticed me further.

Every cell in my being radiated with pleasure as he thrust in me. More, my succubus cried. For once we were in agreement. Close to climax, a feeling coursed through me. The feeling like an intimate whisper in your ear. Goosebumps erupted on my skin. Something in him called out to me, a beacon I couldn’t deny.

A sssoul. So hungry. Oursss to eat.

His soul. The burn in my throat scorched unbearably. On instinct, I kissed his lips and sucked in his peppermint flavored essence. An ecstasy I never felt before rushed over me. A lightheaded haze filled my brain. The high triggering my climax. His soul filled me, soothing the ache in my throat. Pictures, no memories, of Matteo swam through me. I was a secret voyeur to his life. He tried to shove me away from my lips but I didn’t let him. More. I need more.

Delirious, I stole every last drop of his soul. I hadn’t realized when he’d stopped moving, didn’t pay attention to the fact he now sagged over me. Hadn’t cared. I only wanted one thing—his soul.

Devouring the last of his soul, I became conscious of my surroundings once again. I yanked my lips off of his lips. “Oh my god,” I shrieked. Toppled over me was not the handsome young Matteo, but a decaying mummified state of a man. I shoved him off of me, his body falling to the ground.

“Oh my god,” I cried again. “He’s dead. I killed him.”

If you can’t beat them, seduce them

Meet Layla James, your typical smart-mouthed, witty, and total pain-in-the-butt woman—except for the whole succubus thing. After nearly a millennium on Earth, Layla’s settled down in a boring life in Palm Springs until a smoking-hot hunter comes to arrest her for murder. Layla knows the rules—she'd never commit murder and incite the wrath of The Powers That Be.

Elijah Daines is a hunter, he maintains the balance of good and evil in the mortal realm. Hunters are neutral, but he’s had a hatred of evil instilled in him since birth. His power is stronger than any hunter she’s ever encountered—now he’s accused her of a crime she didn't commit.

In an unlikely pair-up, they investigate together after discovering someone is impersonating Layla in an attempt to frame her. Layla and Elijah race to exonerate her before her reputation is ruined and humans learn of a supernatural presence.

Excerpt:
He approached the counter. I, or maybe my succubus, decided on a whim I would not be intimidated by his power. I wasn’t sure where my sudden courage came from. He had to have felt my succubus signature. We weren’t a violent race when we controlled our urges. I’m Queen of Control over here. I’m sure he knows I won’t, hurt him. Right?

But why was he here? Something must have been wrong.

As I walked toward him, I got a better look. His dark hair was in slight disarray and his bright blue eyes scoured my face. He towered over me in every sense of the word.

He and Jolene should go back-to-back so I can get an accurate measure of his height.

I shook away my thoughts of him—it was obvious he came here on a mission. Greek god or not, he was still a hunter, and I—I was a product of evil, aka something he hunts.

“Succubus,” he growled. The one little word was filled with eons of unabashed hatred. The word vibrated through me. All hopes of him wanting a new bathroom paint color vanished. No, this visit wasn’t going to be pleasant, not at all.

Perhaps I could seduce him. Hell, he could do me right on the floor of aisle nine next to the light fixtures, if it kept him from killing me. I bit my lip. But…hunters weren’t typically susceptible to succubi charms. A failed attempt of Aprhodisia could earn more problems.

I released a breath. Some buried deep natural instinct rolled through me again. With that feeling, I decided to stand my ground. I looked him in the eyes, stood up straighter, and replied, “Hunter?”
