The Story Behind the Story: CODE WOLF by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Hello there. Welcome, everyone. I hope you’ll join me this evening in celebrating the release of my 33rd book = CODE WOLF = from Nocturne and add a bit of sparkly early holiday cheer to my day. This is a heart-breaking time for me since the Nocturne line I’ve loved writing for will end next month, for good. CODE WOLF’s book birthday is an extra-special celebration for me because it’s the end of an era for that line... but of course not the end of these books for me.

Yay.

With my Wolf Moons series for the Nocturne line of paranormal romances, I’ve had werewolves in Miami, South Dakota, Colorado, and Washington. Sexy, hunky guys who hold down regular jobs and can fit in well with good old humans, and beautiful, feisty females who hold their own… until there’s a full moon overhead. And then they become even sexier and more dangerous than ever.

CODE WOLF was created to honor several reader requests I had received after my book Immortal Redeemed was released. In that former book, a Seattle detective that was also the alpha of a fierce crime-fighting werewolf pack was a side character that readers (and me) fell for. But Detective Derek Miller didn’t get the girl in that book because he wasn’t the main male character. Readers both loved and felt sorry for Det. Miller, and wanted his story. They wanted me to find the right girl for him and asked me to write about it. My editor at Nocturne agreed, and well…

Here it is.

Along with a big thank-you to the readers who suggested this.

The blurb Nocturne gave the books was this:
A Were’s forbidden desire tests the limits of loyalty. When Seattle detective and alpha werewolf Derek Miller meets Riley Price, the bond is instant. Feral. Their connection entails enormous risk, for he must keep the existence of his kind secret at all costs. But the forces of darkness have Riley in their sights. Now Derek must choose between the Were code of silence and saving the woman who’s set him on fire.

CODE is the key word here.

Code of silence about the existence of werewolves.

Code of silence and ethics regarding Were/Human interaction.

And then there’s -

Code Wolf - The call that goes out to the Seattle Were packs when trouble is brewing and Were strength is needed to fight for justice and the secrets that others, like them, have to maintain.

There are criminals in Seattle, and then there are nasty nests of vampires in the shadows that prey on humans. “Code Wolf” calls the Weres who keep humans from finding out what other kinds of creatures share their space, and the brave Weres who answer the call do their best to keep the ugly shadows at bay.

Detective Derek Miller is the kind of man we all would love to find in our lives. He’s also quite a bit more. So I introduced him to psychologist Riley Price, a woman who howls at the moon for fun, but soon finds out what hides among that Seattle’s shadows. Let me just right now say that Riley is perfect for Derek, rocks his world, holds her own, and that Derek is captured by her spirit from the get-go.

Don’t you just love sparks?

Danger?

Intrigue?

And when two people find each other amid the chaos?

Code Wolf, like all of my other books, was a labor of love. I didn’t want it to end, but had to let those characters go to live their own lives.

So I hope you’ll read this book, and love it, too.

Maybe my werewolves will capture you when that big moon shines.

I sure hope so.

Cheers for now…

Thanks for being here.

Linda

  3. The end of this series, Linda?! "Howl" can that be, since, as long as there comes a full moon, under which you write, anything is "werewolf possible" here, I'd say.
