Vignettes in the life of a kitten and her doting owner, wherein even the most mundane things appear exciting and fresh.

As much as I love horror and grit, sometimes I just want something cute, y’know? Something low stakes, something that’s just going to make me happy.

Admittedly, I may also have an addiction to anything cat related. Shut up, it doesn’t count if the entire internet is with me on this.

I grabbed FukuFuku Kitten Tales because cats. I admit it. That’s the only reason. However, it’s super cute and relatable and I may now be tracking down all of the creator’s titles because cats.
The gist is that FukuFuku and her owner look back on FukuFuku’s kitten antics. The owner is a lovely older lady who wants to befriend her kitten, and FukuFuku is terrified. Lots of typical cat antics ensue. It’s obviously meant for younger readers, but I don’t care, because cats.
The good: There’s a lot of variety in terms of kitten adventures: discovering new objects and routines, wandering outside into the neighborhood world, bumping into other animals. The author keeps things simple and charming, and honestly, it works. Plus, the sheer amount of expression on Fukufuku’s face whether she’s ecstatic or affronted or whatever is hilarious. The owner is left to be exasperated or charmed with the reader, and I found myself giggling quite a bit I’m easy to please, what can I say. I can see where this would be great for new readers or for parents and kids to read together. That being said, as an adult I can appreciate its warmth and kindess, and it made for great bedtime reading.
The bad: Nothing, really, as long as you keep in mind this is for kids so it’s fairly low key.

The ick: Nah, nothing.
