The Sunfire Queen, Sierra, has waited for her chance to rule, thinking life would be better with her mother dead. She was wrong. The Court of Light is in Shambles. Her people are terrified and despise her. She has no friends, no love, and no hope. When a new war hovers on the horizon, Sierra must find the lost beastkyn Mikhail or her court will perish, and she'll lose her shot at redemption.

Quick to grin and quicker to kill, Mikhail has made his share of mistakes–being imprisoned has given him time to ponder each poor decision. But when Sierra frees him, he earns the opportunity to make some more. She's gorgeous and despite her fiery nature, as cold as the snow-capped mountains of Russia. He can't wait to see how fast he can make her melt.

What a beautiful cover this story has. Really and truly it's stunning. As the cover junkie I am, of course, that sold me right away. Sins in Sunlight was a first-time author read for me, did it knock my socks off? No. Was it the worst thing I've ever read? No.

As a PNR goes, sometimes there are installments that land just "middle of the road". But in a sea of so many different kinds of PNR's I certainly get how an author can really want to stand out from all the other fishes. Be the Jason Momoa of the sea, long hair and all. As Dory loves to sing "just keep swimming". So that's what happened, I kept on swimming with this one.

While at times there are very enjoyable moments between our main couple, overall Sierra was not all that I could have hoped for. She doesn't have any long-lasting moments or breakthrough events that would leave a lasting impression. There are books from the past that I read 10 years ago and can still relive in my mind with clarity. Characters that took hold in my heart and continue to live on to this very day. THAT is the kind of book I want to read. THAT is the journey I want to take.

Looking for some growth with this series and would certainly give it another shot in the future. Has some work to do but don't we all?
