Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba started out as a Japanese dark fantasy/martial arts manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge from February 2016 to May 2020. It is a shōnen (marketed to high school boys) manga with 23 volumes‎. February 2021, the manga had over 150 million copies in circulation, including digital versions, making it the tenth best-selling manga series of all time. (Wiki)

It was turned into a 26 episode (~25 minutes each) anime in 2019. In Oct 2020 the movie Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train (reviewed her e) was released. It follows the events at the end of the anime series.
I watched the 26 episodes with my 20 year-old-daughter on Netflix (can be found on other streaming platforms). She's my anime-watching buddy. I saw the movie before the anime so I had some idea of what was going on. The story centers around Tanjiro. He represents everything pure and good in the world. I adore his character and if your kid wants to cosplay him...let them! He follows the typical hero arc of losing everything in a tragic event (family slaughtered by demons), wanting vengeance, self-doubt, and finally growing as a person and doing what is right. You will love him and cheer him on!
He meets up with other demon slayers in training and forms friendships that are tested. All the characters represent an extreme stereotype. So they overreact often and it adds a little comedy to the story which is kind of dark, to begin with. Got to be honest, there is one character in Tanjiro's circle of friends that I could do without, Zenitsu. OMG! I just wanted him to shut up! lol. He takes anxiety and insecurity to an extreme. I feel for the guy and he faces his issues but...he spends most of the show like this
Demon Slayer is not for young kids! It is violent and bloody. Awful things happen to good people...especially dismemberment. But we are talking about demons here. They are vicious and eat people for power. Even though demons were once human there is a zero-tolerance policy for demons in the Demon Slayer Corps. Tanjiro's sister challenges the thinking that all demons are bad and he is on a quest to find a cure for his sister and all demons.

This is the primary antagonist in season one, Rui.
He is a spider demon.

The story has lots of fighting action, drama, horror, and some comedy in a good balance. I am looking forward to season 2 which is coming this year!
