Blade: A Bayou Heat Novella
by Alexandra Ivy, Laura Wright
Aug 8, 2017
120 pages
Sexy Suit, Blade was held captive and abused for decades. Benson Enterprises was desperate to use his superior blood to create super soldiers. But when he’s finally rescued, he can’t return to the Wildlands with the other prisoners. Not without the female he was forced to watch being impregnated. The female who has gone missing.

Beautiful and broken, Valli just wants to run away and never look back. But with the shocking news of her pregnancy fresh in her mind, she wonders if that’s even possible. Told by her captors that one of the caged animals assaulted her, she knows she must do everything in her power to keep her unborn child safe. But when a glorious male tracks her down and claims her and her baby as his own, will she have the strength to walk away?

Walking out of the kitchen with careful steps, Valli wondered if Fran suspected she wasn’t feeling well. Again. If so, the older woman would insist that she go upstairs to bed. It was such a temptation, but it would not only leave Fran alone to deal with both cooking and waiting tables—it would be a reminder of the last time she’d been unwell. And she couldn’t risk losing her job, even if Fran let her stay upstairs while she hired out again. She had to push through.

Once out of the kitchen, she scurried down the short hallway that led to the women’s bathroom. Crossing to the sink, she splashed cold water on her face, taking deep breaths.

After a moment or two the dizziness receded but was replaced by a strange sense of euphoria. As if something, or someone, was filling her with pure joy.

Unnerved by the sensation, Valli rushed out of the bathroom, only to slam into a man who was just entering the hallway.

Dr. Scott Richards reached out to grasp her by the shoulders, preventing her from bouncing away like a pinball.

“Valli, are you okay?” he asked in concern.

She instantly pulled away from his touch. It wasn’t personal. The doctor was young and boy-next-door handsome, with his dark blond hair and bright blue eyes. He even had dimples. But since her return from the clinic she didn’t want anyone touching her. Especially not men.

She forced a smile to her lips. “Sorry, Dr. Richards.”

He clicked his tongue. “How many times do I need to tell you to call me Scott? Dr. Richards was my dad.”

She took another step backward. Since her arrival in Bonne, she sensed that Scott wanted more from her than just a doctor/patient relationship.

“Scott,” she reluctantly offered.

“That’s better.” He flashed his dimples. “Now why don’t you join me for a cup of coffee? You look like you could use some caffeine.”

“I’m fine.”

He frowned. “You’re pale.”

“I’m working a double shift, so it’s been a long day.”

“Hmm.” His gaze studied the shadows she knew marred the skin beneath her eyes before lowering to her loose smock. Did he suspect there was something she was trying to hide? Or was he just surprised in her choice of uniform? “I think you need to come in for a checkup.”

A flush of anxiety moved through Valli at his words. She pressed herself against the wall and began to inch her way toward the back door that served as an emergency exit.

She liked this man. She really did. But there was no way in hell she was allowing him to examine her. No way in hell she was letting him even get close enough to try.

“I told you when I returned to town that I was cured.”

About the Authors:

Alexandra Ivy is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. From Alexandra: “I’m not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother’s knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library.

Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I’m not admitting how many) I’m still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

Laura Wright is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. From Laura: “Unlike many of my peers in the writing world, I wasn’t a writer or a reader until I left high school. During my youth I was into theater, song and dance, commercials and boys. I loved romance surely, but I had never read a romance novel until my late teens. With that said, I remember the day I did like it was a moment ago – my aunt gave me the Jude Deveraux novel, Knight in Shining Armor and I couldn’t put it down until the very last word. Then I went straight to the library and got another – then another until I’d read everything she’d ever written. After that, it was McNaught, Howard, Schone, Kleypas, and the Silhouette line, Desire. I instantly loved those emotional, sexy reads, so much so that I began to carve out ideas for my own stories, themes that were unique to me and moved me. In 1997 I enrolled in UCLA extension writing classes, met my mentor and critique partners and since have never stopped writing. I was committed then and I still am now; the need to tell my own romantic stories a full on obsession. My first manuscript was rejected, and though the second one was as well the editor who’d rejected it wanted to see something else from me. I had something (note to authors; always keep working, even after you’ve sent in a proposal) and sent it right away. The day I got the call telling me Desire wanted to buy Cinderella and the Playboy was the best day of my life. That is until I married my husband, and had my two beautiful children. But I must say, writing is much like motherhood – tough, grueling, surprising, delicious and for me, a dream come true.”

Book Review: Blood Lust (The Sentinels #3) by Alexandra Ivy

Blood Lust (The Sentinels #3)
by Alexandra Ivy
May 31st 2016
Paperback, 352 pages
Blessed and cursed by their hidden abilities, the Sentinels have no choice but to live, and love, on the edge of humanity…

The Sentinel assassin, Bas, is facing the greatest challenge of his outcast existence. His young daughter, Molly, has been kidnapped. But her disappearance has brought the return of her mother, Myst, whom Bas has never forgotten--or forgiven.

Haunted by a vision that she's destined to create a weapon that will destroy thousands, Myst was never impulsive--until she met the irresistibly handsome Bas. But with the Brotherhood, the enemy of the high-bloods hunting for her, Myst had to stay on the run, to keep her child, and the world, safe. Now, with the most important thing in both their lives at stake, she and Bas must embark on a treacherous journey to save Molly, to confront the truth of Myst's fate--and to face their fierce desire for one another.

Okay, so if you’ve been keeping up with The Sentinals series then you know that Bas is a high blood who doesn’t follow the rules; he makes them. His onetime hookup with a woman known as Myst resulted in a daughter named Molly that Bas had to raise alone after Myst dropped her on his doorstep as an infant. Now Myst has returned to spend time with their daughter and hopefully avoid the vision she’s been haunted by, a vision that says she will create a weapon that will destroy the world.

Okay, so Bas was the leader of a shadow society of high bloods who don’t want to follow the rules that were created to keep them and the humans safe. That has disaster written all over it right? Well yeah, almost from the start Blood Lust dropped me into total chaos with Bas and Myst reuniting and reluctantly calling a truce to their hostilities in order to deal with a bigger problem and in the process they get their hands all over each other again, cause you know, one time wasn’t enough for these two.

I loved the tension between these two so much because it was so well done. There was tons of unfinished business between them, yet they had to prioritize their needs against their daughter’s. Bas wasn’t used to having someone like Myst stand up to him because, hello High Blood Assassin, but it was entertaining to watch them clash. Bas needed to be put in his place because as sexy as this guy was, he was arrogant and dismissive of anyone that wasn’t him or his daughter. Of course part of Bas’ charm was his dry sense of humor that would pop up at unusual times.

Myst didn’t exactly lack in the humor department either. She was more than capable of matching Bas’ sarcasm with a few snarky responses that sometimes caught him off guard. I’m so glad that Alexandra Ivy paired the very alpha Bas with the iron willed Myst because he would have stomped all over a lesser female. Where Bas was the physical strength, Myst was the intellectual strength and I loved that balance between them. That’s not to say Myst was a slouch at fighting because she wasn’t, she just had different methods. She was definitely one of those characters who made the best out of a bad situation but she’s been a loner for most of her life so connecting with others was new to her and I loved watching her learn that there were people she could count on.

There’s always something going on in an Ivy book and Blood Lust was no exception. The main story is of course Bas and Myst’s journey to find out how to stop her vision from coming true but there’s also the accompanying story (and budding… something) of Lana, otherwise known as the Mave, aka the leader of the high bloods and Wolfe, the leader of the Sentinals. He seems to be the only one not intimidated by her power and there’s an attraction between them for sure.

Really though, I loved how Bas went from despicable in the previous book, to reluctant and totally likable hero in this one. Ivy took his one positive quality which was his love for his daughter and used it as a stepping stone towards redeeming this dangerous, selfish, and cold character and I loved every step of the way. Bas and Myst weren’t the easiest couple but they are one of the most fun. The push and pull between them and the fun of watching them find their feet while co-parenting their daughter was worth the wait.

Book Review: On the Hunt by Alexandra Ivy (Short Story)

On The Hunt
By: Alexandra Ivy
Paranormal Romance
Short Story (On The Hunt Anthology)
Plot:
Mika Tanner has loved Bailey Morrell, a beautiful Healer, since childhood. But his duty as a Sentinel, a supernatural guardian of an ancient race, clashed with her rebellious spirit. Now a dangerous new anarchist group not only threatens life as they know it—but any chance of their being together again...

Since I only read one story in this package deal, you are most welcome to check around and see what the reviewers are saying about the other three short stories. As for "On The Hunt", it's a good read for anyone wanting to jump into a colorful PNR world or fans of the series so far, who need another fix.

Mrs. Ivy does an excellent job of giving the reader a well thought out taste of her fresh new series. You'll get to dabble in this alpha heavy world and dance around in the lore laced entertainment, for a short time. I love/hate short stories, mostly because when they are done right...I want to keep reading them! This was one of those cases. However, it sure does leave me wanting more for the future!

Sexy romance and passion, plus some brief action and mystery make this one both fulfilling and jam packed with material for the short reading time allowed.

If you like this fun series so far or want to check it out now, you can start here without having to read any previous stories!

Book Review: Burned by Darkness (Dragons of Eternity #1) by Alexandra Ivy

Burned by Darkness (Dragons of Eternity #1)
by Alexandra Ivy
Kindle Edition, 179 pages
Published June 30th 2015
by Deborah Raleigh, LLC
The Dragons of Eternity were once creatures of myth and legend. Now they’ve returned to the world, prepared to claim what’s rightfully theirs…

Tayla is desperate for a place to call home. After years on the run, the young imp impulsively buys a teahouse and is determined to build a new life. Unfortunately, she’s barely opened the doors when she’s tracked down by the dragon who purchased her from troll slave-traders. He demands she pay off her debts…in his harem.
Baine has devoted a quarter of a century to tracking down his beautiful concubine. And now that he has her in his grasp, he’s not about to let her go. But it’s soon apparent that he isn’t the only demon hunting her. He must uncover her secrets or risk losing her forever.

$2.99

An imp on the run, Tayla spent years avoiding capture yet she always yearned for a home of her own. Determined to have her own life, she impulsively buys a teahouse and tries to start her own business but before she can start over, the dragon who purchased her from slavers shows up at her doorstep demanding she pay off her debts.

After searching for his latest acquisition for 25 years, Baine is in no mood to argue. Tayla is his concubine for as long as it takes her to work off her debts and he’s determined not to let her out of his sight anymore. But Baine is not the only one who wants Tayla, someone else wants to destroy the imp for unknown reasons.

The great thing about Burned by Darkness is that while it’s the first in an all new series, author Alexandra Ivy didn’t spend pages and pages explaining everything in this new world the story took place in. It all felt familiar while still being something new and Ivy kept everything at a swift but generous pace. It’s why I love her books so much, she doesn’t babble on and on in places where a few succinct sentences will do.

Burned by Darkness had an arrogant alpha male who thought the sun rose and set on his perfect smile and that all women wanted him. Baine had the well known arrogance of a dragon, complete with the “I’m a sex god” complex. He was just so darn serious when he would voice his obvious superiority over pretty much anyone that I couldn’t dislike him. He was so sexy even when he was delusional about what he could control, which was Tayla.

Tayla was no weeping female. She may have been sold to an arrogant dragon but she wasn’t just going to roll over and die. I loved her intelligent and caring nature that sometimes got her into trouble but the best part of Tayla was her unwillingness to submit to the fate that had been forced on her. She was a fighter and she demanded that Baine treat her better than just another treasure to add to his horde. That’s a good paranormal heroine for you, and Alexandra Ivy knows that’s what her readers want: A heroine who can be brave, tough, smart and self sufficient but also vulnerable, frightened and angry.

Ivy knows where readers’ true affection lies though, and that’s with a very familiar character who continues his unique brand of mischief in Burned by Darkness. To me that was a good move on the author’s part, putting the darling of the Guardians of Eternity series in this new series. He served as an attention getter and as a link to the Guardians.

The Dragons of Eternity series is off to a strong start. It seems to be similar to the Guardians series except with dragons this time around. Not necessarily a bad thing but if you’re looking for something different from the previous series then this isn’t it. That didn’t bother me though. The mystery of just who was after Tayla and why served to force Tayla to rely more and more on Baine for help which in turn helped take them from Master and Slave to Lovers, something I feel would not have happened without that particular plot twist.

Ivy crafts a fun, paranormal romance with a sexy alpha male and a take no crap female and while this book may have a slight connection to the Guardians series, there’s no need for new fans to worry, Burned by Darkness can be read as a standalone. There’s plenty to experience in and I’m curious to see if the half breed dragons like Baine’s friend Char, get their own stories as well.

Book Review: Darkness Eternal (Guardians of Eternity #7.5) by Alexandra Ivy

Darkness Eternal (Guardians of Eternity #7.5)
by Alexandra Ivy

March 31st 2015 by Zebra

For the Guardians of Eternity, battle is a way of life—whether the plight of their world is at stake, or the fate of their heart…

After being held captive by one vampire for four centuries, Kata had no intention of taking another one to the underworld with her. Yet even in the pits of Hell, there’s no ignoring the intoxicating desire awakened by Uriel’s touch...

Previously published in Supernatural.

This was a nice edition to the overall story arc of the Guardians of Eternity series. You can read certainly read this installment as a stand alone, but I recommend getting the full saga experience! I've been reading about this world of paranormal creatures since book hit the shelves and it's been a very enjoyable ride ever since.

Being held against her will, and forced to make a baby with a dude against her will, Kata has been living locked away for a really long time. Though she makes comments about keeping up with the culture and changes in the world, it's a little hard to belive since she's being kept in hellish conditions, but satellite dishes and internet connections aside (gods I hope she didnt have to deal with dialup!), Kata's ready to get out of her prison and reunite with her long lost daughter.

Just when you think she'll never break free, her vampire in moonlight armor comes crashing into the scene and whisking her off her feet. He's overbearing and bossy, as most males in this saga are, but you love him for laying it all on the line to protect the woman his heart has decided to mate with. Yes, it's love and mating at first sight!

Soon, these two and getting down and dirty in the moments they have peace before all hell's going to break wide open. Hey, I've known you for about and hour, your hot and I've been celibate for about 200 years. Let's get this going! And they do!

Through some trails and tribulations this pair set out to find their way in an ever changing dimension. Someones playing love doctor but they may be getting these two killed for real. It's all in the name of love and I enjoyed just about all of this book quiet a bit. Though if I had to nitpick, the word "bitch" is thrown around a few too many times, A tad unnecessary by the end. I was overall happy with this tale of love and finding that hope at the end of the tunnel.

Ivy fans will enjoy this one and new readers can dig their claws in and get a nice taste of the saga that is Guardians of Eternity!

About the Author:
website-FB- Twitter
Like most writers, I was born with an avid love for reading. Growing up in a small town in the Midwest, I can’t remember a time when I didn’t have a book in my hand or wasn’t dreaming up wild stories in my head. And when I stepped into my local library for the first time I thought it was paradise. There were so many books on the shelves I didn’t know where to start!

Still, I didn’t plan to grow up and become a writer. I was much more interested in a glorious career as an actress on Broadway.

I followed my dream by acquiring a degree in theatre and performing for several years in summer-stock productions, but after I married my college sweetheart I decided to put the career on hold while we started a family. After the arrival of my two sons, Chance and Alex, I found myself seeking a new creative outlet and decided to turn my occasional scribblings into a genuine effort to get published.

I’d like to say that I was an overnight success, but the truth is that it took years before I finally got ‘the call’. The rejections were painful, but now I’m relieved. All those manuscripts that I thought were the next Great American Novel are now exactly where they belong…gathering dust under my bed.

They did, however, help me learn my craft, and just as importantly, they gave me the opportunity to enjoy writing in a wide variety of genres as I searched for my voice. Which no doubt explains why I started writing traditional regencies under the name Debbie Raleigh and then moved to steamy historicals under the name Deborah Raleigh before transforming into a contemporary paranormal writer as Alexandra Ivy. Now my career spans everything from erotica to romantic suspense.

When I’m not writing I love to travel, it doesn’t matter where I’m going as long as it doesn’t include any cooking or cleaning. I also love to spend time with my family who continue to be my greatest source of inspiration. And since some things never change…when I have a few minutes, you can still find me with a book in my hand!

Katie: Welcome back James! I'm so happy the duct tape and rope didn't scare you off! *villainish laugh*
James: Takes More than that to scare me off :) Great to be back Katie.

Katie: You're on the cover of the upcoming paranormal romance Blood Assassin by Alexandra Ivy, how did that come about?
James: The creator of the Deacon Chalk covers hit me up for this cover, and of course I was in. Guess I made an impression.
Katie: I've read the book and you do look a lot like the main character, do they tell you much about the part beforehand
James: They just told me I was a bad a$ assassin type.
Katie: Oh man, you sure are! *fans self*

Sharon: You are an active/fitness kind of guy. What outdoor sports do you do?
James: During a nice spring/summer day my fave place to be and thing to do is on the beach playing some doubles Volleyball. And in the winter when I'm brave enough to rough the cold I enjoy snowboarding. I slacked on both this past year but looking to change that this year.
Sharon: I think we can let you slide…you did tie the knot! Does your better half enjoy the same?
James: She likes the beach when it's not crazy hot, and during the evening. She's more into woods, mountains and rivers...a nature girl.

Katie: Since we last interviewed you, I've been seeing you all over the place! What TV shows and films have you been a part of in the past year?
James: I shot "Person of Interest" for the second time as a stunt Principal. I also shot a few reenactment shows including "True Crimes", "I killed my BFF" and "Scorned".

Katie: Where can we look forward to seeing you in the coming year?
James: I did a few Indie Films coming out soon titled "Dark" and "Sugar".
Sharon: Sounds sweet! (heehee, see what I did there? Snort)
James: You're out of control lol

Sharon: If you were a bouquet of flowers what kind would be in it?
James: You don't expect someone with a tough guy image to answer that do you? lol
Sharon: You could go with a bunch of Venus Fly Traps…
James: Actually I thought of that. I had one when I was a kid, it died pretty quick. Guess I fed it a bad fly :/

Katie: Can you take your shirt off? I mean, what? Who said that?!
Sharon: *whispers to Katie* His wife is over there and I hear she can shoot lasers out of her eyes if anyone messes with him…just saying…
James: Yea my wife is very protective of me so be careful lol
Katie: Well, then SHE can take his shirt off. I mean d'uh!
James: She's always down for that lol
Katie: *faints from a joygasim*

Katie: A huge congrats on the recent wedding! Tell us a little about your lovely wife who is also a model, is that right
James: Yes she's an accomplished high fashion model among other things, she just got her real estate license. She's the most incredible woman I've ever known. And I met her in church believe it or not. Truly a match made in Heaven.
Sharon: awwwwww…
Katie: How can you not love these two?!
James: I know, we're sickening right? ha :)

Sharon: What song did you have your first dance to as husband and wife?
James: So in Love by The Icarus Account

Rapid Fire round, you know what to do!

Katie: Slap fight or Leg wrestle?
James: Leg wrestle

Sharon: DC or Marvel?
James: Marvel
Sharon: *high fives James and Katie* Knew you were cool.
Katie: Ok, if you could be ANY Marvel character who would you pick?
James: I think Wolverine is pretty bad a$$. Healing powers, bones and claws made of Adamantium, pretty much indestructable...I can live with that.
Katie: Leopard print or Cheetah?
James: Cheetah, wait...am I wearing it? ha
Katie: Pfft, does it matter. hehehe
James: My buddy has lots of Cheetah print, I'll borrow some.

Sharon: Give her candy or give her flowers?
James: Flowers

Katie: Sappy love stories or Action packed blood and guts.
James: Action baby but I can appreciate a good love story
Sharon: You can have both!

Sharon: Walk on the beach or Walk in the mountains?
James: beach but my wife would say Mountains...so guess we're going to the mountains lol
Sharon: Got to go with your wife on this one. I’m mountains all the too.
James: Ok then you two go to the mountains lol
Sharon: Oh boo, hiss...oh, wait...is she driving?

Katie: Fall or Spring?
James: Spring

Sharon: Wear a watch or Use a cellphone?
James: Cellphone

Katie: Sing in the car or Sing in the shower?
James: Rockin in the car
Katie: And what are you belting in the car concert?
James: Pearl Jam, STP, AIC, pretty much any 90's grunge band.

Sharon: Country or Rock-n-Roll?

Sheep Book Review: Blood Assassin by Alexandra Ivy

I've enjoyed Ivy's writing style over the years. She knows how to serve up sexy alpha men like the pro she is. After reading the plot description above, I was a little disappointed with the details. I get the short info is meant to draw the reader in BUT it's not really all that accurate. Serra never found love with another, the whole point of the story is how she has ALWAYS pined after Fane. To the point of obsession.

Fane is also not her "only hope". Fane feels obligated to help Serra cause he's a stand up dude. But yes, they do eventually get a HEA though it takes a while to get there. The fire between Fane and Serra is there for sure, what's lacking is the believability. It was hard to believe that Serra would have ended up getting forced to track down a missing child. It was hard to believe that when it's all said and done, the people behind the attack seem like amateur hack jobs.

For immortal folks who are supposed to have some major magic and abilities, I found it really frustrating that they couldn't handle this a lot quicker. I would have really enjoyed a more devious plot, with sinister twists and layers of deception. Instead, it was a little too transparent for my tastes.

Seems like a harsh review thus far and for that I am sorry. Being honest can come across that way sometimes, but I genuinely look forward to reading Ivy's books. I'm not going to hold this one against her in any fashion. I'm not even going to mind the redundancy of words and phrases she uses over and over again. I can even overlook the choppy bits, because the heart and writing of the story is entertaining!

I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in this series and I absolutely encourage all my PNR lovers to give this one a read!
