Character Confession: Petra Robichaud (Immortally Embraced) + giveaway

Does PNR author Angie Fox mistreat Petra, the heroine from her Monster M*A*S*H series? Petra thinks so...
warning: this post contains Oreos!

Character confessions, Petra, Immortally Embraced

Angie Fox vs Dr. Petra Robichaud from Immortally Embraced

Hi! Angie Fox here and I write a series about a group of paranormal M*A*S*H doctors in the middle of a great war. Petra is a surgeon in the unit, and one of my main characters. I’m absolutely certain she loves me and wishes to shower me with rose petals, thanks to the hunky special ops soldier that I paired her with. He is sex on a stick. You are most welcome, Petra for all that I have given you.

Petra: You made him break up with me.

Angie: Well, yes, but he only did it to keep you out of danger. Investigators were on his tail. If they were to find out that you have a forbidden power, you could be killed. Or worse, the gods could come up with some kind of mythical punishment, like making you walk on eggshells until the end of time or setting you on fire upside down while spiders nest under your toenails.

Petra: Where do you come up with this stuff?

Angie: Don’t ask.

Petra: And while we’re at it, how come I’m on the front lines, saving lives and you’re sitting on your couch, eating Oreos?

Angie: The creamy filling helps me think of cool stuff to do to you. I’d share, but you can’t get cookies like this where you are.

Petra: No. I get to eat stale power bars and Fruit Stripe gum.

Angie: And blueberries! I gave you blueberries once!

Petra: That was during a sex scene and I was hardly paying attention to fruit at the time.

Angie: Which brings us back to why you should love me. Have you seen the body on your man? And we’ve all seen what he can do with it.

Petra: What ever happened to privacy?

Angie: But your life is so interesting. In this new book you face off against a crazy evil new enemy, you’re confronted with your past, and you’re up to her ears in baby mamma drama from a pregnant Medusa.

Petra: You know what? I like Medusa. She’s just a single mom, trying to do the best for her baby. Besides, I’ve never been afraid of snakes. Now if only she could learn to control her temper…

Angie: I’m sending you to her baby shower.

Petra: What the f&*? NO!

Angie: Your roommate Rodger is going to help me.

Petra: Fricking werewolves. I thought they were supposed to be loyal. What did you do? Bribe him with baby sea monsters?

Angie: Star Trek gear.

Petra: You don’t stop. It never stops…

Angie: Your butt is mine. Next book. Unless you want to start showing me some appreciation.

Petra: Good luck with that.

Angie: No worries. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Immortally Embraced is the second book in Angie Fox’s M.A.S.H. trilogy. Here is the order of the books:

Immortally Yours (Aug 2012)

Immortally Embraced (Feb 27, 2013)
Immortally Ever After (Aug 27, 2013)

Book #1
I read and reviewed book #1 Immortally Yours (here) and loved it.  Angie Fox is known for her light, humorous, and smexy romance series Accidental Demon Slayer. For her M.A.S.H. trilogy she decided to take a walk on the dark side. She has crafted a wonderfully original world where unbeknownst to humans, the old gods and the new gods (of all religions) are fighting it out in limbo and the fate of Earth depends on the outcome. The gods/goddesses have pulled certain humans some with supernatural talents into limbo to help with the wounded in army like M.A.S.H. camps. Fox manages to bring her trademark humor to this story, but she doesn’t let you forget the horrors of war and what it does to people emotionally and physically.

I can’t really talk about the romance because there is a love triangle of a sorts going on. Reading the books out of order will kind of spoil this aspect of the story but not the rest. I will say that after reading the first chapter of Immortally Embraced I wanted to cry and pull Ms. Fox’s hair out. Just kidding, I don’t want to really pull her hair out… much…
book #3

The series story arc about the war in limbo and the prophesies has really captured my attention and I can’t wait to find out what is going to happen in the last book or what new and crazy characters Angie will introduce us to . In Immortally Embraced we meet a berserker named Oghul who you don’t want to upset and a couple of very jealous and petty goddesses.

This is classified as a PNR and the romance is very much the PNR formula of “I can’t give into my feelings, yes I can, no I can’t…” which normally doesn't do a lot for me, but the backdrop for the romance is clever and there is enough world building to keep this urban fantasy lover happy. Another plus for the romance is the heroine Petra isn't like normal PNR heroines. She is more of a hero archetype. It is the hero in this book that has stayed chaste for 10 years because of his love for Petra and not the other way around… hence the love triangle I was talking about.

Here is an example of Fox’s humor:

Yow. Was it getting hot up here? I was starting to sweat. A jeep was bad enough, but if he thought I was going to ride over the Great Divide on dragon back…

He dropped his pants.

“Do you mind?” I asked, glancing behind us as he shucked his boots. Yes, I’d seen it all before, but not for ten years. And besides, I was still angry with him. And I kind of hated him and here he was stripping and Jesus on a pogo stick I’d forgotten how good he looked naked.

Book Review: (ARC) Immortally Yours by Angie Fox

Immortally Yours (Monster M*A*S*H #1) by AngieFox

IN THE WAR BETWEEN THE GODS…
No one patches upthe incoming wounded like Dr. Petra Robichaud. Recruited by the gods for heruncanny medical skills, she’s the best M*A*S*H surgeon in the army. Along witha nosy guard sphinx, vegetarian werewolf, and other paranormal paramedics, shebandages soldiers who are built like Greek gods (literally). But when one sexyimmortal ends up on her operating table—half dead and totallyto-die-for—Petra’s afraid she’ll lose her patient and her heart…

NOTHING IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN LOVE
Commander Galen ofDelphi is one gorgeous but stubborn demi-god. When his spirit tries to slip outof his fatally wounded body, Dr. Petra has to slip it back in—unwittinglyrevealing her ability to see ghosts. Now that Galen knows her secret, he’sconvinced she’s part of an ancient prophecy. If the oracles are right, Petracould lead Galen’s army to peace. And if he seduces her on the way to hell andback? Heaven knows—all’s fair in love and war…

This is an action-packed, fun paranormal romance. If youliked Angie Fox’s Demon Slayer series, then you are going to be pleased withthis one too. Immortally Yours is the first book in Fox’s M*A*S*H series, andlike most series debuts it has some growing pains. The first third of the bookis spent trying a little too hard to be funny, but after that the humor becomesmore realistic. The world-building isn't overwhelming and I really liked theclever and fresh premise for the series. Once the story starts buildingmomentum and the action picks up, I was invested in the characters and enjoyingthe ride.

The New Gods, a more hip and progressive group, havedeclared war on the Old Gods and the two have been fighting for over 700 years. As long as neither side gains the upper hand the fighting is contained inLimbo, a red flat wasteland, and the humans on Earth have no idea of what isgoing on. If one side does gain an advantage, then there will be naturaldisasters on Earth. Most reviewers have been emphasizing the Greek gods in thestory, but the war involves past gods and goddesses from many differentmythologies. However, our smexy hero Galen is a Greek demi-god. To help in the war the old and new gods are allowed to recruit people from Earth with supernatural origins, like vampires, werewolves, and Fae. Thereluctant heroine, Petra, is a half-fae doctor from New Orleans and wasrecruited by the New Order Army to help patch up the soldiers at a M*A*S*H unitin Limbo. While this seems like a great opportunity, there is one catch, youhave to serve in the army for the rest of your life or until the war ends.

Galen is Greek demi-god perfect. He is loyal, trustworthy, compassionate, and sexy as hell. Angie deviates from the normalPNR formula of a woman helping the emotionally damaged hero believe in himselfand trust love by having Galen be the emotionally stable one and he has tofight tooth and nail to make Petra believe in him and the prophecy. Yeah, youcan’t have a story about mythological creatures and not have a prophecy. Petrahas the forbidden ability to see and talk to the dead, but if the gods knew they wouldkill her. There's a quirky set of secondary characters thatincludes Petra's roommates: the brooding vampire, Marius, and a werewolf namedRodger who has a wife and pups back home he will never see again, but myfavorite is Jeffe. He is a Sphinx and is in charge of watching over therecovery room. He's a nice enough guy, just don’t let him trick you intoanswering a riddle. While the overall tone of the book is humorous Angiedoesn’t forget that war is also about fallen and the families torn apart whenloved ones must serve. No one wants to be in the M*A*S*H unit and it is easy tofall into despair, but that is where hope comes into the story in the form of asix pack of abs, a prophecy and love.

The M*A*S*H unit follows the news on PNN, Paranormal News Network so Angie has created a PNN website for fans to enjoy. Be sure to check it out here

Sheep Book Review: So I Married a Demon Slayer

So I Married A Demon Slayer Anthology
Featuring: Kathy Love, Angie Fox, Lexi George

In the lusty humidity of the Deep South, among the neon lights of Vegas, and the glitz of high-fashion, demon slayers are the new sexy. . .

Hot! By Kathy Love
At Hot! Magazine, the devil really does wear Prada. When the CEO is an actual demon and the mail room guys are undercover demon slayers, it's not beyond the realm of possibility for an up-and-coming photographer and a model possessed by much more than a sweet tooth to fall in love.
What Slays In Vegas by Angie Fox
When a sexy succubus comes up against a fearless demon slayer intent on killing her boss, a truly wild Vegas night turns into a quickie wedding. But in a city where anything goes, a demon slayer wedding a succubus is strictly forbidden. Which doesn't mean either is rushing to jump out of the marriage bed.
The Bride Wore Demon Dust by Lexi George
He's perfection in a tuxedo—more so out of it—and on a mission to protect his Alabama gal from the mysterious mayhem intent on her destruction. But the bride is a spunky steel magnolia with special powers of her own, determined to drop-kick evil forces across the state line and give her slayer a run for his money.

This is a light and fun paranormal romance anthology about sexy demon slaying men falling in love. Angie Fox was the only author I was familiar with, but I was looking forward to trying out the new authors. I think novellas are the perfect medium for this purpose.

The first story Hot! was disappointing. The story didn’t really go anywhere and there wasn’t any real conclusion to the story. It also wasn’t done in the silly humorous way the other two stories were so I felt like it clashed thematically. There also wasn’t any passion between the couple or much of a conflict in the plot to encourage their romance to grow.

The second story What Slays in Vegas was fun and had some really hot smexy parts. There was even a virginal hero. Well, he was at the beginning of the story ;) When the two woke up after a night of crazy sex and found pictures of their wedding and night on the town I LOL'd. I have always enjoyed Fox’s sense of fun. The story got a little silly with the hero saving theme, but I was smiling the whole time. Here is one of my favorite passages:

He was suppose to to break into Napthulo’s casino. He was suppose to drug a succubus into giving him the pass-word to the demon’s inner sanctum. He was suppose to slay Napthulo to blow the whole operation sky high.
Instead, he had sex, got married and made tiger faces outside the MGM Grand.

The last story The Bride Wore Demon Dust was my favorite. It was hilarious! I loved reading about Bunny as she learned on her wedding day that her husband wasn’t who she thought he was. Her inner conversations about Smart Bunny vs Dumb Bunny were a riot to read. Rafe is an arrogant demon slayer from another world and I wanted to smack him as he constantly lamented about how he didn’t have human feelings of love and therefore couldn’t need Bunny, but their story was just as sweet as it was funny. The secondary characters were even fun to read. I will definitely look into other stories by Lexi George. Here is an example:

Oh, good Lord, she’d hired a plague-infested photographer. Everybody at her wedding was going to die of a pernicious, infectious disease, and there would be dead bodies and stray body parts everywhere.
Eww.
The Caterer would be pissed. She’d probably lose her deposit.

After reading these stories you will be looking for your own demon slayer cause apparently they are *really good in bed ;)
