Technical genius and demi-goddess—a.k.a Divinity—Khloe Bradenton relies on no one for help, and she definitely doesn’t need comfort from anyone but her twin. After her parents were killed by the demons over two years ago, she graciously accepts her role in the war between the demons and witches. But when a creature far more dangerous than the ones responsible for killing her parents claims he is her guardian and steps in with help she never asked for, she is torn between her desire for the dark predator and memories of the painful loss she endured at the hands of her enemies and from those who claimed to love her in the past.

One of the last Death Demons still in existence, Jagger has pledged his life to the Goddess of Witchcraft, Hecate. Charged with guardianship of the Divinities—one particular spitfire, in particular—he was told never to approach them, but simply to aid from a distance. But when Khloe sacrifices herself to save her twin and best friend and thus becomes the demons’ prey, Jagger has no choice but to reveal himself to her. However, he is taken by surprise when the desire to claim her as his own emerges, and his need for her burns hotter than her Fire. But in the midst of the war, their feelings for each other could prove more dangerous than the demons out to destroy them.

Character Confessions: Luc Danes complains about author Heather Long + giveaway

Heather: I hope you don’t mind, but Luc Danes decided to join us for this interview. I thought it would be Brett, but Luc practically volunteered for the job…

This is Brett, Luc's best friends.
Luc: Volunteered? Is that what they're calling it these days?
Heather: Be nice, Luc. We’re here to introduce people to the Wolves of Willow Bend…

Luc: *coughs * You meant Hudson River, right?

Heather: Technically, the series is the Wolves of Willow Bend, and we met Brett in the third installment…

Luc: Technically? Yeah, I’m not here to talk about Mason’s pack, though. I came to talk about Brett’s—you know my best friend, the guy I actually needed help from?

Heather: Absolutely, and we’ll get there. No need to be so surly…

Luc: You broke both my legs and my arm, then stuck me in a hospital where I couldn’t shift to get better.

Heather: Well, true.

Luc: So, we’re talking about Hudson River.

Heather: Fair enough. You win. Let’s talk about Hudson River.

Luc: Well, while we’re on the subject, exactly why did you have to break both my legs and my arm? Not to mention my ribs and you gave me a concussion. Wouldn’t any one of those do?

Heather: Need I remind you that you’re a wolf? One broken bone would hardly slow you down.

Luc: *grunt* True. So you had to break a lot of them, then you introduced me to the sexy little minx, Colby, who has the bedside manner of a freight train.

Heather: You started it.

Luc: I was the patient.

Colby: Luc? Shut up and cooperate, then I’ll bring you a cheeseburger.

Luc: Fine. I’m cooperating. What were we talking about?
Heather: Hudson River.

Luc: Right! Hudson River. Best pack in the U.S. Our Alpha is Brett. He’s had a silver platter of shit delivered to him over the last few years. Did you know one of his Hunters went crazy and actually murdered several wolves?

Heather: Yes, I knew that
.
Luc: That’s your fault, too.
Heather: How much of all of this is going to be my fault?

Luc: Everything.

Heather: Good to know. Which means all the good stuff is my fault, too?

Luc: No, I brought the good stuff.

Heather: You have a thing about being right, don’t you?

Luc: Hello? Dominant wolf with Alpha tendencies, here.

Heather: That I can neuter in the next book if you keep being a smartass.

Luc: Nah, I’m too freaking adorable for words. Your line, not mine.

Heather: Stay out of my head.

Luc: Haha. It’s my personal playground, and you’re distracting me. So, Hudson River. I grew up there, you know.

Heather: Keep it up and you can die there, you know?

Luc: Nah, like you said. I’m adorable and tried to steal the show from Brett. I’ve got some of the best lines in the whole book.
Heather: Note to self. Give Luc a woman he can’t charm.

Luc: Hey, now…

Heather: Not to mention one who puts him in his place and doesn’t take any of his crap.

Luc: You wouldn’t…

Heather: Oh, and make her sweet and full of laughter so he has to put up with happy all the time…kind of like cotton candy on crack.

Luc: Now you’re just being mean.

Heather: No, I’m giving you challenges to overcome. Like returning to Hudson River…

Luc: The only challenge was getting there. Like I said, I grew up in Hudson River. Brett’s my best friend, and he needed me. After Marco killed so many wolves and Brett’s grandfather, Hatcher, I knew he’d blame himself. It’s stupid, he’s Alpha, not God, but he was going to blame himself. The man deserved to know I had his back…

Heather: Except you were gone for all of that.

Luc: Doesn’t change anything.

Heather: Do you think, if you’d been there when Marco started killing, you could have made a difference?

Luc: Damn straight I would have. Except I wasn’t, so that’s on me. But Hudson River is one of the oldest packs in the States. It has a great history. We’re not big on nonstop violence, we don’t get bloody just to have a fight like Sutter Butte, and it’s in the prettiest territory with the best seasons, not hot all the damn time like Delta Crescent or freeze your nuts off cold like the Yukon.

Heather: You realize that description applies to Willow Bend territory, too?

Luc: Except I’m not talking about Willow Bend. Sure it’s a nice place, sure it’s got some good wolves, but it’s nowhere near as awesome as Hudson River.

Heather: So if it’s so great, why did you leave?

Luc: That’s a long story…

Heather: We’re listening.

Luc: No, honey, that’s a long story you need to write.
Heather: Because Hudson River is awesome?

Luc: *slow grin* Now you’re talking…

Then she sees the wolves...and is exposed to a world she can barely imagine. When Brett discovers a secret about her, nothing will be the same again. Now she will find herself torn between a world she isn't sure she can understand and the man who has taken her heart hostage...

Excerpt from River Wolf:

So not ready to be awake…

A knock on the door intruded in her drifting and she groaned. Dammit, she was a guest. She couldn’t stay in bed all day. In fact, what she needed to do was get up, shower, dress and get her ass on the road. Florida seemed a hell of a long way to go, though. Rolling over, she shoved the blankets away then climbed out of the bed. Glaring at the light between the curtains, she rubbed a hand over her face, then stumbled to the door.

Opening it a crack, she gazed at her host. Goddammit. He looked perfect. Dressed in a clean, nicely pressed shirt with the top two buttons open to reveal the faint curls of dark against his chest and smelling like heaven, he looked good enough to eat. His hair wasn’t even damp, though it fell in a soft wave toward his forehead. He’d been up long enough to shower and dress—and he wore a smile.

“Ugh,” she sighed. “Please God tell me you are not one of those happy morning people.”

The corner of his sensual mouth quirked higher. The effect on his expression devastated her sleepy senses. No human should ever look so damn good without coffee. The combination of rake and boy next door added to his appeal, but the trace of scars and mottled skin gave him a ruggedness she desperately wanted to smooth away. “I woke you.”

“Not exactly,” she admitted, rubbing her cheek against the door and leaning on it a little more heavily. Everything ached and she wanted to go back to sleep. “I’m used to getting by on a lot less sleep.” And rolling out of bed to go to work for eight hour shifts that as often as not turned into ten to twelve hours on her feet. “I think I am tireder than I thought.” She yawned the last three words, and when she glanced at him again, his expression softened.

Extending a finger, he traced the line of her cheek and it was a soothing motion, one which had her eyes half-closing in pleasure. “Go back to bed, Colby.” His voice washed over her. “I’ll be in my office working.”

“I can’t laze about in bed all day.” No matter how good it sounded.

“Why not?”

“Because…” She had to go to Florida or at least say her goodbyes. She was a guest and not even an intentional one. “…Luc. I should probably check on him.”

“He’s fine, the doctor is with him.” The indulgence in his voice evaporated, but the steadiness in his tone remained. “Go sleep. When you wake up, come find me. We’ll have coffee.”

Tempting. So. So. Tempting. “I’m up now…but coffee sounds like heaven. Really, really strong coffee.”

“Double pot? I made one, I can run it through again.”

Colby groaned at the idea. Now that he’d mentioned it, she could smell the coffee. It proved even more alluring than the sweet vanilla and jasmine entwining the pine of his cologne on her pillow. Releasing the door to stretch, she would have thumped her tail if she’d had one. “Yes, please. If it wouldn’t be too much to ask.”

Silence greeted her comment, and she found Brett gazing at her. Rapt admiration in his eyes as he trailed his gaze down her body and up again.

Fuck me… She still only wore a t-shirt and panties and she’d just given him a show. “Crap. Sorry.” Slamming the door shut, she leaned against it. Adrenaline burned through the remaining traces of sleepiness, adrenaline and a healthy dose of lust. Having him look at her like that warmed inside and out.

“Please,” his voice stroked her through the door. “Don’t apologize. I’ll go fix the coffee. Come and find me.”

The invitation had her toes curling and she bit her lip. “I will,” she said, then added in a low whisper. “I promise.”

“I’ll be waiting.”

A shiver skated over her spine and she closed her eyes. Maybe she should have invited him inside to go back to bed with her. Inappropriate as hell, and impulsive, but she bet Brett would wake her even better than the coffee.

He already has…

A beacon of light...

Undercover DEA agent Alex Brennan doesn’t believe in the paranormal, despite the exhausting nightmares that reveal things he shouldn’t know. When sleep deprivation causes him to make a horrible mistake on the job, he is driven to find answers. Dreams guide him to a lighthouse in Three Churches, Maine, where he finds an inexplicable and comforting familiarity in the arms of the lighthouse’s beautiful keeper, Pru Maddox.
A whisper of memory…

Deadly misfortune has long plagued Pru’s family, the result of a curse “The Green Lady” placed on the lighthouse. Skeptical, Alex searches for less ghostly explanations, though he can’t deny that the town has had more than its fair share of disappearances, suicides, and accidents. As their passion simmers, Alex digs deeper, and his dreams turn violent, frightening, and very real.

A vision of darkness...

To keep Pru safe, Alex must embrace his abilities and unravel the lighthouse’s mystery. Except someone—or something—wants the past to stay buried...and will do anything to keep it that way.

Excerpt
Pru found him on the beach, skipping rocks into the choppy surf. Familiarity tugged at the back of her mind and she stopped short. She’d seen this before, but as far as she knew he hadn’t once ventured onto the beach since he arrived. She shook off the sense of déjà vu and started walking again.

“Alex?”

He froze for an instant before sending another rock into a wave. “Are you sure you want to be out here with me?”

“I’m sure. You wouldn’t hurt me.”

“I just pummeled my best friend.”

“That wasn’t you.”

He scoffed and threw another rock, then turned toward her, his face a solemn mask. Nick had gotten in at least one good blow. The side of his jaw was starting to bruise. “What, you think I was possessed?”

“Something like that. It wasn’t you,” she insisted and draped the blanket over his shoulders. “I don’t know what it was, but it wasn’t you. You wouldn’t hurt me.”

She reached for him, but he shrugged off the embrace and faced the cliff. His eyes scanned the rocky crag, the dark tree line overhead, the strip of narrow beach.

“It all looks so familiar,” he said.

Familiar.

Goosebumps prickled along her spine. “Of course it does. You’ve been here for a while now. You can see the beach out your window.”

“No, it’s—never mind.” He stared up at the lighthouse and watched its beam twist around as it had for over a hundred and sixty years. “I keep picturing a woman standing on this beach, waiting for me. She’s like a mirage. Every time I try to recall her image, all I can see is the outline of her hair and dress.”

So much uncertainty in his voice. Confusion, pain, sorrow. Pru wanted to make it all fade for him, chase his demons off the same way he did hers. She stepped forward and circled her arms around his waist.

He opened his eyes and met her gaze. “I’m so sorry.”

“It wasn’t you, Alex.”

He gathered her up in his arms, cocooning them inside the blanket, and brushed his lips over hers. The thrill shot straight through her core. She opened her mouth in acceptance, but this time wasn’t like the intense, plundering kisses she’d experienced before with him. The sweet, slow, drugging kiss melted her resistance and sparked a burn low in her belly.

Alex rested his forehead against hers. “I…need you tonight, Pru.”

She bit down on her lower lip and tasted his kiss again. Alex was a man who didn’t need anyone. She knew it, had known it from the first time she laid eyes on him. And yet his gaze, those solemn gray eyes, verged on desperation. He did need her, even if it was only for one night.
