Sheep Book Review: Reaper: A Demonica Novel by Larissa Ione + excerpt

Reaper: A Demonica Novel
by Larissa Ione
October 15, 2019
325 pages

THE DEMONICA SERIES RETURNS…

He is the Keeper of Souls. Judge, jury, and executioner. He is death personified.

He is the Grim Reaper.

A fallen angel who commands the respect of both Heaven and Hell, Azagoth has presided over his own underworld realm for thousands of years. As the overlord of evil souls, he maintains balance crucial to the existence of life on Earth and beyond. But as all the realms gear up for the prophesied End of Days, the ties that bind him to Sheoul-gra have begun to chafe.

Now, with his beloved mate and unborn child the target of an ancient enemy, Azagoth will stop at nothing to save them, even if it means breaking blood oaths and shattering age-old alliances.

Even if it means destroying himself and setting the world on fire…

"For love, he'll watch the world burn", what a damn sweet line I can totally stand by! Or this spine shiver one "Even if it means destroying himself and setting the world on fire...". Sh** you just don't hear that kind of brutal passion any more! Azagoth is 100% my kind of sexy as hell killing machine, matched only by his hard as nails love and devotion for family. Plus, that killer body. MEOOOW!!!

Larissa Ione has yet again delivered an epic tale that only a true writing master can deliver. Some PNR stories feel under-cooked and trying too hard to cover up sloppy writing with "sex pages". Yawn. Larissa brings forth colorful heartfelt characters and a delicious world so intricately weaved leaving the reader immersed in a top-shelf PNR adventure. A romance that is never forced and always authentic. And psst, make sure you eat before starting her books because you won't want to put them down!

You will root for our leading pair and be on the edge of your seat until the very end. So much action takes place in these pages and so many twists that you will NOT see coming.

I give Reaper all the Sheep we have and strongly encourage everyone to read this book!

Excerpt
“I have no doubt Azagoth will stop at nothing to save Lilliana,” Reaver admitted. “But he knows that if he releases Satan, Satan will kill Lilliana. He can’t risk it.” “What do you suggest we do then?” “I can talk to him,” Reaver said. “Hawkyn requested information about a fallen angel named Flail. I’ll use that as an excuse to get to Azagoth.” A flock of gulls squawked as the birds circled the palace, looking for handouts from Caila’s guests, and Metatron had to raise his voice to be heard. “You said he sealed off Sheoul-gra.” “Hawkyn will open it to me if I can convince him that I’m not there to destroy his father.” It shouldn’t be a problem; Hawkyn wouldn’t have contacted Reaver at all if he weren’t sure Reaver could handle the situation without killing anyone. “And if Azagoth is out of control?” Metatron asked. “Will you destroy him?” “Isn’t it a little early to be discussing that?” Metatron rolled his shoulders, probably not even aware he’d done it, but Reaver knew he was testing his wings and his powers, feeling them out at the thought that shit might get really fucking biblical real soon. “He can’t be allowed to release Satan,” he said, fire in his tone. “And he can’t be allowed to escape Sheoul-gra.” “Would escaping be such a bad thing?” Reaver wasn’t Azagoth’s biggest fan, but the guy had been trapped for thousands of years. He’d proven that he was capable of wrangling souls and navigating the politics of both Sheoul and Heaven. He’d chilled out a lot since getting mated, too. Seemed like it wouldn’t be a big deal if he lived where he wanted and commuted to work. Metatron appeared troubled that Reaver would even ask such an apparently insane question. “Yes, it could be bad.” “Why?” Reaver asked. “I mean, I get that he’s an asshole, but a lot bigger assholes are running around loose.” Like the fallen angels who had killed Wraith. He clenched his fists, wishing he was out hunting them right now. “Azagoth signed contracts,” Metatron said. “Contracts sealed with the powers of Heaven and Sheoul. We don’t know what kind of damage we’d take if he made that big of a breach.” Sounded kind of minor to Reaver, but he knew well how seriously Heaven took broken rules and breaches of contract. They also weren’t fond of Heaven being damaged, which was why Revenant, while technically welcome here, wasn’t…welcome. His presence destroyed everything around him. “Okay,” Reaver said. “Let me grab the info on Flail and give Hawkyn a call. I’ll let you know what happens. And, Uncle?” Metatron inclined his head. “I want this to stay between us for now.” Silence stretched. Not even the gulls called out, and Reaver started to sweat. Metatron had always been fair and by-the-book, which was probably part of why Reaver had been such a rule breaker as a youth. And beyond. Hell, he still was, he just wasn’t as reckless about it now. Responsibility was a bitch.

EXCERPT:
Inside Sheoul, the demon realm sometimes called Hell, evil was everywhere.
It dripped off the sides of the sheer rock walls in streaks of black acid that ate into the stone with a hiss. It wafted through the humid air on tendrils of mist that reeked of sulfur and decaying flesh. And, as Vex watched, it oozed like toothpaste from out of a fissure in midair that only people like her could see.

Her purple-tipped black hair, already short and spiky, stood even more on end as the thing squeezing out of the fissure, a dead demon’s soul, popped free of whatever realm and mystical enclosure it had been inside.

The toothpastey glob took a transparent, vaguely humanoid shape, but its glowing crimson eyes were sharp and clear. A malevolent wave of rage and hate rolled off the soul, and Vex backed away, even though escape was impossible for her.
She was what her parents had called a daemani, a demon soul magnet, a person to whom souls stuck like glue. According to them, most daemanis couldn’t prevent it from happening, and that was a serious pain in the ass. If a demon died near Vex, not even the Grim Reaper’s personal daemanis, creatures called griminions, had a chance to collect the soul before it got sucked into her and stored as a glyph on her skin.

The demon shrieked, a sound only she or another soul-sensitive person could hear, as it struggled to keep from being sucked into the prison of her body. In a futile attempt to avoid the inevitable, she fled, her booted feet nimbly negotiating the rock shard-strewn ground that was all too common in this part of Sheoul.
But no matter how fast she ran, every time she looked over her shoulder, the distance between her and the soul had decreased. Closer. Closer.

Book Review: Revenant (Demonica Book 11) by Larissa Ione

Revenant (Demonica Book 11)
by Larissa Ione
Paranormal Romance
408 Pages
Plot:
HELL HATH NO FURY . . .

For five thousand years, Revenant believed he was alone in the world, a fallen angel beyond any redemption. Now he finds he has a twin brother who had all the light and love Revenant was denied. Caught in a tug of war between Heaven and Hell, he must weigh his thirst for revenge against his desire for a mysterious female named Blaspheme-a female whose very origins could deliver him into salvation . . . or destruction.

LIKE AN ANGEL SCORNED

Blaspheme has a deadly secret: she's the forbidden offspring of an angel and a fallen angel. Hunted by both heavenly and satanic forces, she has survived only by laying low and trusting no one. When Revenant claims he can save them both, how can she possibly believe him? But the powerful angel is persistence incarnate and for Blaspheme, there's no place she can hide in Heaven or Hell where he won't find her.

All good things must come to an end at some point. Try as we might, it's time to let go of this demon series and move on to the next world Larissa creates. How can I sum up this series, put into words the awesome and breathtaking masterpiece that one of the best PNR writers has developed? It's damn hard! I'll try but no matter what I say, it can never do this one justice.

From book numero uno of the Demonica series, Larissa Ione had me hooked. Addicted. Craved and strung-out (and that's not just my normal day) when I had to wait for the next installment. There are few writers who can balance a world as exciting and vibrant as this one. Even fewer who can keep a needy reader like myself coming back again and again. But that's the masterpiece of Demonica as a whole. Realistic, entertaining, dynamic and sexy characters that seem larger then life yet realistic at the same time.

Here we are at Revenant who is the twin brother to Reaver, separated at birth and both forced to live a life without the knowledge of the other. While Reaver got to hang out in the cushy Heavens, Rev is sent down to the bowls of Hell. Forced into immortal service for Satan himself. Tortured and beaten daily, there is a huge amount of violence in this story. But that's what you come to expect in this saga. I absolutely do NOT recommend reading this one as a stand alone. This series must be read from start to finish, and only in that order.

I was eager to see how his story would unfold. Who would be a match for this tormented male and would that gal be able to stand toe-to-toe with the second most powerful being. Surprised and happy are the two words that come to mind. Every bit of expectation I had was met, Blaspheme brought everything she had to the skull and bones table. Her Mother though was a real piece of work, but hey you certainly can't pick your family!

Overall, I am sad to see this one take that long walk down a short pier. Or whatever other analogy you can come up with. It's a bummer but I'm thankful the fantastic writing will continue in other sagas. Plus I can always go back and read these tales over and over.

Sin Undone...pass more Doctor please.

Sin Undone by author Larissa Ione is the fifth installment in her Demonica series. She's a NYT bestselling author and by the undead gods she has every right to be! This series is like Grey's Anatomy meets Angel, only McSteamy is more like McDemony in these books. :) All I can say is, once you go demon you may never go back - those smokin' hot doctors can take my vitals any day!

On to the review. Sin Undone revolves around the story of Sin the demonic assassin, and Conall a half-vampire half-werewolf paramedic. No team vamp or team werewolf this time; this sexy man is the best of BOTH worlds. I can't recall reading another series that has an undead/werewolf duo teamed up, and as such it's very refreshing.

While previous books focused on Sin's brothers, you get a big girl-power boost in this one. Sin spent decades enslaved and learned to fight and kill with the best of them, before becoming the leader of an assassin for hire thug ring. Sassy butt kicking at its best! ;)

A dare from another EMT colleague thrusts Conall and Sin together. She makes a terrible mistake which unleashes a deadly disease, which in turn has the sexy werewolf finds himself sucked into Sin's intrigue faster then he can say "OMG I love Edward!" lol. (Or perhaps that should be "Bella"). Either way he finds himself deeper in her world. This happens partly against his own will and partly because of his attraction for her. Ah yes…love and hate. A fine line at times. lol You can't help but like the half breed and as the book progresses you're really rooting for Conall.

There is a lot of action and sticky situations within the pages of this book, along with some hot and heavy romance. *checking romance fuel gauge….yup filled up* Ione also introduces a few new characters whom I hope to read more about in greater detail in upcoming books.

I thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining book. Highly recommend it to all! Getting 4 very happy sheep
